Maximum Battery Save Mode/ No Keyboard - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

So My phone was @ 8% battery and I wanted to save what life my phone had until I got home. So I put it into battery saving mode at maximum saver. Well then I lost my Keyboard to get back out of it when I got home I'm using the gboard keyboard and have Package disable Pro on my phone with the Samsung keyboard disabled so I'm not sure if that's why or not but I really don't wanna have to factory reset my phone unless that's my only option. I have Nova on my phone as well so i know I can backup my settings I have from that cause I do a backup and send it to myself every 2-3 weeks I have also done a google back up and Samsung back up recently
Please Help
Newbie to Android

I never put it in maximize power savings because it goofs settings up but nothing that can't be undone.
Try disabling the 3rd party launcher, they can cause a lot of trouble. One cost me 2 back to back reloads.
You say you lost the Samsung Keyboard completely?
Try a forced reset ie simulate pulling battery. Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu.
Probably a settings glitch.
If that doesn't work in PD MDM clear the Samsung keyboard data. The corrupted data maybe in another app if that doesn't work. Last resort Google it as someone with another galaxy device has probably had this happen too. If it's running on Pie your chances of a Google search cure is better.
Last resort after that is to do a Settings reset.
If the OS is old and especially if it wasn't reloaded after the firmware update it's reload time.
You can get a fast .5 tb Lexar SD card for $75. If you have a lot of music files, vids etc on the internal memory like me, transfer them to the card to save space and reload time.
Get the app APK Export and make a copy of all the apps you have loaded and save to the SD card rather than reload it off Playstore or whatever.
I have copies of my system apks as well for backup. APK Export allows batch processing, it's free with no adware on Playstore.
Lol save a copy of that too in case Playstore cans it.
I'm on my 3rd reload and this 10+ runs the best it ever has. Rock solid stable and fast.
Watch what apps you reload.
I highly recommend using the Samsung launcher for best stability and performance... it's that good.
Use the Samsung Icon packs, themes and the Samsung Good Lock family of apps. Use these customize it instead of the 3rd party launcher.
They run very well, look great and use little resources/ battery.
Reloads are good as you'll find new settings and features you never knew were there. You lose the problems caused by crapware that uninstalled poorly.
You come out with a better 10+... nothing beats a minty fresh clean OS load.

WTF? Clear Device Manager updates and go with the factory load version. The updated version sucks.

Phone runs like garbage....

Hey guys, i don't know if I can really do more research and use the search button more than I have so I'm now asking.
My phone runs like complete crap.
Before I "upgraded" to 2.2 it ran fine. Fast, screens were smooth, aps loaded quickly, and no crashes ever.
Now that I'm on 2.2, which i have been since the launch, I have random aps force close, all, the, time. One day it'll be TWLauncher, the next, rhapsody, the next, internet browser, etc. I'm literally not exaggerating at all. I close aps using "Program Monitor" that came with the phone. I've looked at and used other ap killers but there's no difference in what shut down. The one that came with the phone dose the same so I've tested those waters. I saw something about using titanium to "freeze" aps but I'm still unsure as to what that is. I'm rooted, saw no difference, have galaxytuner to OC when I play a game or two. i have only galaxy tuner about 7/8 times. I have startup auditor and shut down EVERYTHING it would allow. My battery life has sucked the more the performance went down. I do work in a low reception area so I go into airplane %50 of the day, by my choice. In airplane mode i would still see MAYBE 10 hours on my phone, wtf is running? I bought Juice Defender and love it, it increased battery life by 1.98 to 2.44 depending.
I'm a computer tech, don't know much about linux, reading all i can, but there's so much and I'm so far behind it's confusing. I'm open to suggestions and willing to try anything.
New rom
yes, I'll go to a different rom if that's what the consensus says but I love swype and samsung's layout. Can i keep that... somehow?
also. Since i got into 2.2 the browser BLOWS. Just sucks so bad. I haven't pin pointed when this happens, but sometimes on a large page when I'm zoomed in and I scroll it makes everything TINY and scrolls that, then goes back into my zoom or it just makes the page the background HTML color while I'm scrolling so i have no idea what I'm looking at. wtf is that? some setting i haven't found?
Ok, well i hope this is enough info. I'm posting this in XDA and Android Forums to maximize my coverage. thank you for reading and I apologize in advance if I sounded like an idiot.
Samsung epic 4g, SPH d700
firmware version 2.2.1
kernel 2.6.32.9
froyo.ec05
hardware version d700.0.5
3.5ah battery
Ok that's a lot of stuff. But yes maybe a stock ROM with root and throw Genocide 1.0 kernel on it will really speed things up. After rooting you will want to wipe data and Dalvik cache to clear up some of the issues you have developed.
Quick option would be factory data reset to clear out everything and then add a little at a time to see when these errors start. Also make sure you don't pull the battery without waiting for the vibration.
Do you BONSAI?
how do I do the genocide thing? I really do have a lot of aps installed, 5 pages worth. Most are small though, should this affect my phones performance? i purchased MyBackup Pro.
Corection. i have 7 pages. I can part with most of that ****, because it is... newegg, autozone etc... Now, I heard that I can get all my paid aps back just by syncing with the ap store IF i restore?
Well first off thanks for posting in the right area. Secondly I am not a guru around here but my approach when I run into performance issues is to wipe and start from scratch.
If you play a lot of games and wish to keep your progress, I would root with the One Click Root 2.5. Then install titanium backup. Only backup apps you wish to keep your progress in (Angry Birds etc). Titanium Backup instructions are available on YouTube
If you dont care about your backing up apps to save progress just skip this step.
Then goto the ACS Sydicate Frozen Thread and follow the installation instructions inside. They have the most stable optimized (battery and speed) ROM IMO that should fix your issues.

Good, backup everything just in case. Yes your paid apps are synced to your gmail so you will be able to redownload them for free. Most apps will appear back in your download list.
The first thing you will need to do is root your phone. Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Then go here to get the Genocide kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961614
Download it and copy it to your phone's sd card.
And then you will go into Clockwork (boot holding camera, volume down and power buttons) pick "install zip file from sd card" (volume buttons scroll and camera button chooses) then "choose zip file from sd card" scroll through your sd card until you find the file you downloaded and put on your sd card and scroll to it again and hit camera button and away you go.
After you get all that done and all is well read through the overclocking section and start with 1.2Ghz and see how that works.
I'm already rooted, backing up everything as we speak.
Now Do i really want to overclock? my phone ran fine before 2.2, how do I get back to that state of speed?
Can you recommend a rom?
I'm going to factory restore. dumb question, but will i have to root again?
I am not sure what stock stuff you are using or if you are ready for changing your file system, but the ROMs here tend to remove some of the stock apps or widgets that are considered bloatware. I would start with just a kernel for now and then think about a ROM when you are more familiar with the process.

Yes, if you do a factory reset you will need to reroot. The Syndicate Frozen fully loaded mentioned in a previous post would have most of the sprint apps like Touchwiz and a fast kernel. But read up on EXT4 and Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.6 before jumpinng in.

and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
The new kernel alone without overclocking will already speed up your system. Also download Spare Parts and set all all animations to FAST and that will make it seem much faster too.
Im trying to factory reset but if i chose the menu way, nothing happens. It warns me, restarts, and nothing has changed. I can't even do it with the buttons. I hold volume down, hit hit the power button and it boots normally. Wtf?

In this order, hold camera, hold volume down, hold power. Into Clockwork you go.

[Q] Just flashed Syndicate to my Epic... questions

This is my second time rooting my phone. I wanted to get a better ROM and the Syndicate seemed like a good choice. Had a few problems and had to go back to the original stock and then download the Android update, root it and then flash the Syndicate. After a couple of tries it worked.
I ended up using OneClickRootCWM3.0.2.5-EC05 and that worked. Before I believe the problem was I had 2.5.
After root I flashed syndicatefro110-fullyloaded-signed. Love the look and still have more to explore on it, but I had a few questions.
1) One of the issues I had was on the home screen, it was taking a while for the apps and widgets to populate. It would look blank for several seconds and then finally show up. After I updated it is doing the same thing. Is this a known issue?
2) I like the battery %. I had a widget to tell me that, but I uninstalled it. No reason to have that now right?
3) Used juice defender before, do I need it now? Apparently the battery life should be a lot better. But one weird thing happened, my battery was 40% after flashing and using the phone for several hours. Then I rebooted and the phone came back at 13%. Never saw that before.
4) I backed up what I could with Titanium Backup but I wasn't sure how to just backup everything. It didn't look like some of my apps or my text messages were saved, but after the reboot those text conversations returned. Not sure what is going on there.
5) I wanted to install the Impaled Keyboard fix but it looks like with the Syndicate ROM the keyboard works better on its own. Is that part of that package?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

1 - not sure, this happens to me once in a while.
2 - no need for the widget anymore! I have not used Juice Defender with this ROM. I can get between 15-20 hours, when I was getting 10-12 stock. I have a couple emails pushing and twitter, and text often, a little AB here and there. So I "use" my phone.
3 - That has happened to me also. All you have to do is charge to full, the clear battery stats in CWM
4 - To get a full back-up I make a nandroid in CWM
5 - Not sure, I barely use my keyboard at all.

SRF was my second rom as well and I've been very happy with it.
1) I've noticed this happening as well but I use Launcher Pro (which I highly recommend). I'm not sure if the normal home screen shows up in the task manager but I just kill my home screen there and hit the home button and it seems to load it up faster than just waiting for it.
2) Welcome to convinience my friend. I used a battery percent app as well and you will no longer need it
3) I almost think Juice Defender gives me worse battery life than without it. SRF will get you great battery life, in addition to that I also use an app to "Freeze" the two DRM processes and I notice an improvement there as well. Just search the forums for DRM if you are curious about that. As stated in the above post every time you flash a new rom you are going to want to calibrate your battery so you avoid misreadings. There is an app on the market that I like called "Battery Calibrator" or you can do it through CWM.
4) I've always lost my conversations using Titanium Backup and I know a lot of people use Nandroid, may be worth looking into.
5) This is a recommended tweak by many SRF users. I've put it on recently but haven't really tested it.
follow up on DRM
Which apps are you using to freeze the DRM? I have Titanium backup but I can't find an option to freeze apps. I don't have the paid version so that might be the problem.
Can I manually do a force stop on DRM Content? I tried doing that but it didn't work. The button didn't change color like it should.
Going to play around with Launcher Pro as well. It looks pretty cool.
I am doing a calibration on the battery now too.
I highly recommend GO Launcher EX.
While you won't need Juice Defender, I would suggest you use Juice Plotter periodically - just to make sure there isn't something eating your battery.

ACS just released 1.1.1 standard edition yesterday. They are trying to get the fully loaded version released sometime tonight. Give that version a go when released, if you wanted to stay with fully loaded.
#1: I had this issue from DI18 OTA to EC05. This went away after a factory reset, and haven't seen it since.
#2: Your call if you want to use a battery widget or not. The % is displayed on the notification bar anyhow.
#3: Your call if you want to use it. Some still do for controlling their data usage across the board.
#4: Not really seeing a question there, but you probably just backed up everything. Upon data restoration, apps like that typically ask you to reboot for everything to display properly.
#5: It's now incorporated into v1.1.1, so no need to flash it separately unless you continue to use v1.1.0.

In Titanium, go to the Backup/Restore tab and tap (just tap -- don't hold down) on the two apps that start with DRM. It should bring up a screen that allows you to select "freeze".
Regarding Launcher Pro -- I paid for Launcher Pro (before flashing Syndicate) but have since moved to Go Launcher Ex which I like MUCH better. It's a lot like Launcher Pro but IMO has better implementation of folders.
Syndicate -- especially this newest 1.1.1 version -- is absolutely great. So fast and smooth. The only thing I didn't care for much is the red circle startup screens. I just found an alternate "Syndicate" startup screen in the Themes forum posted by EnervinE. I like it MUCH better!
Green power is better than juice defender and has an almost 0 config

Read through the new 1.1.1 thread and I can't believe how many questions theimpaler747 answered!
I was a little confused as to what I needed to do, but it was pretty simple since I already had Syndicate Frozen 1.1.0. I just flashed the new one (1.1.1) and all is well! I tested the wireless and wired tether and it worked great.
Still playing with it. Curious to see how it is on the battery.
Also will test out the keyboard fix since it says that is now included. It even blocks the ads in apps! Wow. This seems pretty cool.
all roms take a while to populate lists like that specially while media scanner is running, which will take a long time if you filled your sd card with titanium backup...
no reason to keep the batery % widget...

Wired tether worked for you with 1.1.1? I was never able to get mine to work and I saw many other people reporting similar problems. You're using the Twilight kernel that came with the ROM or did you flash a different one? Just curious since I couldn't get mine to work and I really would prefer USB tethering to WiFi.
I did use the twilight kernel and tested the usb tether and it worked. But I only tried it that one time.
Hmm, interesting. I tried mine with WinXP (with the necessary drivers I think) and with Ubuntu, but no luck. Maybe I'll give my wife's Win7 laptop a try.
With the new 1.1.1 has anyone had any problems with trying to download pictures off pages?? Because with the 1.1.0 everytime i did that it force closed....Or after using it so long everything was force closing where i had to reflash the rom...

setCPU
ryan4sc: If you haven't checked it out already, you'll want to download and install SetCPU. Now that your phone has a kernel like Twilight Zone, you can save even more battery juice by controlling the speed of the CPU with this app. You can get it from the Android Market or here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
Yes and you can over clock with set cpu. Mine runs great at 1.3
Thanks for the heads up on that one. Trying it out now!
The apps taking time to load in my experience has to do with them being saved on your SD card. I backed up my SD card and then formatted it and the lag went away.
I use juice defender even though most recommend that its not needed. JD always gives me ridiculous numbers saying it doubled my battery life, but in reality it adds about 30 - 40% more time. I typically get 18 hours or so of moderate to heavy usage out of my stock battery.
And this is running genocide 1.1 overclocked to 1.4 and undervolted 25 at each step except 1ghz which is stepped down 50 using voltage control.

Lg G3 ART caused settings app to crash

After rooting, and uninstalling a massive amount of lg bloatware, I decided to switch to the android runtime (ART) before I installed all my apps. Once it rebooted and compiled all the apps, the settings would no longer function. My guess is it compiled wrong. Perhaps due to the missing lg crap that it linked to.
With the settings not functioning, I could not use the phone really. Could not even get it to connect to my computer. So my only option was to try a factory reset. This just made things worse. The settings app would still not work, but now I can't even get past the error, because it has to load as part of the setup. It was functionally bust. I had to bring it back to verizon and they replaced it.
I want to use ART, so my question is this; Do the missing apps that settings refers to affect it's ability to compile? should I switch to ART before deleting bloatware? Has anyone used ART successfully, and if so, did you delete lg's crap first?

Tried Again
Verizon model: VS985 4G
So I went at it again with my new phone. Seems to have worked this time. Everything running smoothly on ART.
The play store wouldn't download anything, but I realized that was a dependency issue. It needs download manager. Reinstalled that, and everything seems fine. Not sure what went wrong last time.
I am getting random shutdowns though. Frozen shutdowns, where power wont restore until the battery has been pulled. I don't know if the issue is related.
I had a bunch of freezes when I was running art. All requires a battery pull. I am back to dalvik and getting significantly better battery life and no more freezing.

I'm currently running ART on my VS985. Also getting the random freezes. Battery life hit appears to be tied, at least for me, with the Phone.apk. The dialer barely ever works, and my battery graph shows its frozen butt to be a hog. Actually have to voice dial through Google Now to call anyone :silly:

Something tells me that ART is not worth the problems you are having and should just go back to Dalvik?
Problems not just in ART
So I did a factory reflash of my original firmware. This time I stuck with Dalvek to try to avoid problems. But Apps were downloading very slowly from the play store, so I went to settings, app manager, and cleared the data for the play store. Apps downloaded better. But after a reboot, the settings app wont work, crashes every time something tries to load it. And with that the case, I cannot even get it connected to my computer.
the last time this happened - not only to me - not even a factory reset fixed it.
at least it isn't shutting down randomly anymore... I guess.
This is by far the most buggy phone I've ever had. And the model I have, the VS985, is one that has yet to have the bootloader unlocked.
Anyone been able to fix a broken settings app without reflashing the whole rom?

System UI Not Responding

Does anyone else get intermittent freezing where the entire phone becomes unresponsive for like 30 seconds? It's not affecting any specific apps, but it does seem to happen often when I'm pressing the home or back button on the navigation bar. Also happens when pressing send in messaging apps. Sometimes it results in ANR, other times it will unfreeze without giving a crash dialog.
Could it possibly be tied to battery optimization and putting apps in deep sleep? I've had this problem on both my Note 10+ and S20 Ultra. Did not have an issue on my Note 8.
Steps taken to remedy situation (but did not fix the problem):
Factory reset
Clear partition cache
Running phone in safe mode (worked, but did not help with determining exact problem)
Setting battery settings to High Performance
Wiping app caches
Stopped using SwiftKey (but still seeing crashes on Samsung Keyboard and Gboard)
Unchecked "Put unused apps to sleep"
Unchecked "Adaptive Battery" setting
YES. This has been happening to me for 6 months now and its trying me crazy. On my ATT Note 20 Ultra. Even after factory reset it eventually came back. I feel like its a hardware problem to be honest because it seems to happy when the CPU or Memory is overloaded or working hard. For example, 2 times I can make it happen is when I update 10+ apps from the playstore and try to do anything else, or when I first turn on my phone and its launching all the startup apps.
Not sure what to do, maybe get a replacement from Samsung or ATT? Just hate having to format yet again.
On thing that did help is yesterday I bought the cloud version of Samsung Package Disabler (i bought these thing like 4 times over the years but thats another story) and I disabled 50 apps that I dont need to run but I dont like the hassle of uninstalling and then reinstalling and the passwords etc. Anyways it def has lessened the issue. Which again is why I think its a hardware problem. Since I lessened the apps running in the background it has lessened the issue.
Anyways if you have any updates on your end please let me know, thanks!

S10 plus keeps self-clicking on things like someone's in my phone.

this time I swiped down to click on the weather notification in my drop down menu, then it locked up, couldn't do anything, the menu closed and my google calendar widget got tapped to 2032, that's how fast it was it went through all the months for every year up to 2032. a lot of times if I do something whatever app I'm using turns into a small box and can't get rid of it except for hitting home button then a floating icon which I have floating icons disabled have to grab it and drag it down to a x remove box.
a ton of bizarre things have been happening as well just random **** like Facebook app actually got pressed then it tried bidding on some marketplace I had to keep on hitting home button and reboot the phone.
the screen is clean this is just really bothering me.
Find the cause today or factory reset.
Suspected malware should be promptly removed.
Clear system cache from the boot menu.
Try in safe mode, if it persists in safe mode, factory reset. If it's not happening in safe mode a 3rd party app is likely the cause, find and uninstall it!
Be careful what you install and download henceforth. Keep social media apps off the phone.
You need to keep your phone in check...

i recall clearing delvik or what ever n cache, in fastboot, files recache or what ever. when I do it on this S10 plus with one UI 3.1 it doesn't show optimizing apps when I clear dalvik and cash.
even Google speech is stupid

Optimizing apps? Turn that junk off!
Clear the system cache.
I don't know what you did but you need to sort this out. That's very abnormal behavior for a stock Samsung.
If you did any recent major OTA upgrades, factory reset. Do not use SmartSwitch, clean load.

It could be a rootkit... I've never seen that type of behavior.
Could be firmware corruption, a SEU.

samsung is a rootkit.
i did a few things we'll see, i'll report back. I even try using screen recorder to capture all this **** but when I get back control of my phone and record for 10 minutes nothing happens it's out of the blue like. grinds my gears about to go linux pc n a flip phone
i got rid of a few things, and cleared cache partition from recovery which apps use to get optimized, number apps on the phone, i haven't seen it since oneui 2.5 i think. seems like facebook app or another app i found out that google play removed was the culprit.
i also adb uninstalled some samsung apps.
i miss root, do what u want and if u fck up restore an image with twrp. and having a fcking sd card slot keep you images on.

Normally stock Samsung's like this are very stable, but they need to be optimized.
This N10+'s load is 2 yo now, still fast and stable.
You are what you install and download. Keep trashware and all social media apps off the phone.
Using Package Disabler makes troubleshooting easier as you can use it in real time.
