Does Magisk is gives you bootloops? - POCO M2 Pro Questions & Answers

For me it is giving bootloops.

1) Flash pbrp or if you have pbrp then it's okay, format data via pbrp, the one where you have to type in "yes"
2) Press power button + vol down, boot into fastboot go to an adb terminal and flash los rec via fastboot. Then press vol up + power button to boot into LOS rec.
3) Whatever ROM you wanted to flash save it in your adb folder as well as magisk(optional) as well as your gapps(optional).
4) When in Los Rec, press on update and press on adb sideload, and then sideload your ROM by adb sideload ROM.zip
5) Reboot to Rec after it's done.
6) Boot to System.
7) Reboot to Rec after a successful boot to system.
8) Again press on Update in Los Rec, and press on update via ADB sideload, then using adb sideload command sideload gapps and magisk and boot into system and it should work fine, if you still can't see magisk manager at that point just install the magisk manager apk and you'll see your device is rooted.
Note: Never in hell use nikgapps or bitsgapps. If you have used nikgapps before and are facing bootloops, then flash a different ROM than the ROM you used during flashing nikgapps so as to wipe/overwrite system to kill nikgapp's script.

There is another way to solve bootloop. I just tried and working.
You are on pbrp right? Just dirty flash your rom zip with "dm-verity" unchecked in pbrp. Then boot to os once. Then again just go to pbrp and flash same way magisk (with unchecked dm-verity in pbrp) and reboot to system. It should boot

Thank you. But i came back to stock miui. I feel currently the miui 11 is better than custom roms. All roms are usable as daily driver but most of the builds are not really flashing with the suggested flashing instructions tl itself. Only msm extended rom is booting up as per the given flashing instructions.

How can I keep MIUI from overwrite TWRP with stock recovery after a ROM flash?

I'm on fw Global 9.6.6.0.
(Bought the phone 'bogus' unlocked with "fake" 9.6.4.0, bricked it while trying to restore chinese fw and re-lock bootloader using miflash - I'm not doing that again
brought it back to life using the steps from Omer919's thread - thanks Omer919 and Nijel8)
I deleted install-recovery.sh from system/bin using TWRP's file manager before first boot, but it still overwrites MIUI recovery.
It's not a huge deal because I guess I can always fastboot flash twrp before flashing any new ROM, but does anyone have a solution? Much appreciated!
You have to boot to twrp right after flashing.
Go to twrp official site, choose your device and follow exactly instruction to the end.
It wouldnt harm your device if you reboot it to twrp twice.
Thanks, I tried but it reverts to stock recovery. After flashing TWRP in fastboot, I either try Fastboot boot twrp.img or disconnect the cable and hold power and vol+.
Either way, it goes into TWRP, and I make it boot back into TWRP several times with no problem.
But as soon as I boot to System, it reverts to stock.
TWRP site gives me this info (but it didn't work):
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.
OMG I found it - Google really is a friend. All I had to do was install Magisk before booting to System.
Below are my exact steps, if that helps someone.
Preliminary:
Download Magisk 17.1 zip, place it on a USB flashdrive.
Install latest magiskmanager apk from Play store (or sideload it if not on the store)
1- In Fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img (If all goes well, this boots to TWRP; if prompted for a code, hit cancel)
2- Disconnect the cable.
Reboot to recovery once more (just to make sure, this is probably redundant; hit cancel if prompted for a code)
3- Mount USB-OTG, connect your flashdrive.
Install Magisk.
During the installation, you'll see some red fail lines, but Magisk seems to work around the encryption, just be patient.
4-Reboot System. You're done! Launch MagiskManager. Device is rooted in the process, too. (Verify with a root checker app).
Power Off. Hit Power + volume Up - You should boot to TWRP.
thanks a million McNoob. I was lost, but due to your hints I managed to install Magisk
Hi i cant boot to twrp and it keeps reverting to stock recover..
already tried this "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img (If all goes well, this boots to TWRP; if prompted for a code, hit cancel) "
after sending the last command line the phone reboot but its just black screen.. i try to reboot the phone again and boot it to recovery but still stock recovery is preset.. thanks

ROM installation failure : Encrypted file PARADOX

I have managed till installing twrp, however it seems like all the downloaded rom files and decrypt.zip are encrypted. I tried to copy 'em to the internal storage again but as I boot to twrp it again goes to encrypted mode. In Twrp, I tried to enable the MTP and copy files directly but it always fails. How do I go from here?? Please help!

orange twrp ? could you tell me where can I get it?
My 2 cents:
If you can still boot whatever OS you have right now, back up things you need (including internal storage), then format /data. Reboot into recovery and flash whatever you want, optionally DecScript to switch to unencrypted data after next boot. OrangeFox recovery is not necessary but its UI could be seen as intuitive to some.

I can boot in Twrp and Miui10 OS too. I want to install custom rom, but the rom.zip files turns out encrypted when booting up in Twrp. while being in Twrp I tried to transfer " unencrypted rom.zip " files in my PC to internal storage to flash it but I can't transfer it even after enabling MTp in Twrp.
How do I install the rom is my problem. Shall I wipe data, cache? and then how?

So you're seeing the storage as encrypted (garbled content)? I never actually used encrypted data so I don't know for sure, but Wight's TWRP might not be able to decrypt MIUI's /data, so IMO you do need to format (not wipe) /data. You might also need to reboot to recovery once after that, so that the storage is recognized properly by PC.

Boot into TWRP and select Wipe and then Select the Format Data button.
Make sure you're not sliding to factory reset or advance wiping.
NOTE: This will erase all the information from the phone including internal storage. Make a backup prior this process.
After you're done, you can connect the phone to a PC while on TWRP to copy the rom zip files to internal storage and flash them. A backup from TWRP is highly recommended just in case.

Hey! It works! I'm enjoying LOS16 on mi mix 2.
My problems :
1. Booting to Recovery Twrp :
only thru fastboot mode > fastboot boot twrp.img, Mi inbuilt recovery prevent me to boot to twrp.
Is there any way to go to twrp by just pressing buttons?
2. Flashing magisk/Universal_Decrypt.Zip Bootloops

1- There are multiples ways to reboot to recovery:
Buttons combination: Turn the phone off and press Power + Volume Down and it will boot to recovery.
Apps (root required): There are multiples apps that has a option to reboot to recovery directly. Search something like advance reboot on Play Store.
adb (USB debugging required): Running the command "adb reboot recovery" from terminal will reboot the phone into recovery.
2- To flash magisk, first flash the rom and gapps and reboot to system, finish the initial setup and then reboot to recovery and flash the magisk zip file. Next reboot will take a few minutes.
Edit: The universal decrypt file is not necessary since the data partition is no longer encrypted.

Yes i agree. The thing is Mi has its own recovery, thats preventing me from going to twrp directly, (even though) twrp is properly installed. if i press the button combination it will go to the "Miui inbuilt recovery" Not to twrp. so i go the fastboot mode and boot to Twrp recovery thru adb command. If only I could suppress inbuilt recovery and boot to twrp recovery it would be great. Apps like "boot to recovery" only initiate booting in recovery. It fails to choose Twrp because there are two recovery inside.
In my previous devices, honor 8pro n Samsung 8+ this wasnt an issue. But with Mi phone...
Does yours boots to Twrp directly with the button combination?

That's means that the TWRP recovery is not installed, there's is just one recovery partition and only one can be installed at the same time.
From fastboot mode run "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
That will replace the stock recovery and you will be able to boot to twrp with the button combination and any other app running the reboot recovery command.

Just remove lockscreen protection before rebooting into recovery. You will be fine. Do this before everytime you want something done in TWRP. You won't have to format DATA partition everytime. TWRP will decrypt with default password and you'll be good. I have moved between MIUI 10 and pie roms without trouble this way.

You can just use power + volume up combo to get into TWRP recovery. You don't basically need to fastboot for recovery after it's installed.

Want to use Sultan kernel, having flashing issues

Hey guys. Just upgraded to the android 10 October image via the adb flash-all command. Magisk rooted via adb and everything is going great. Want to install Sultan's ported kernel for Android 10. Used adb to flash twrp image and flashed the kernel zip via twrp but it keeps saying it can't mount /system and /vendor upon finishing. Upon rebooting I get stuck at the google G load screen. Have to redo flash-all and instal magisk via adb all over to get back to normal. Anyone have this problem or could offer some help? Would be great.

As long as the kernel finishes the install it's fine. The mounting errors don't matter if it finishes. The mounting errors are just a bug with Android 10. Everything I flash has those errors after it, but I am good. I am on Oct. with Magisk 20 and Sultan kernel.

Do this:
Setup:
1. Download latest platform tools for your OS
2. Download latest factory image for Pixel 2 XL
3. Download twrp.img and twrp.zip
4. Download the kernel.zip you want
5. Download magisk.zip version 20
(Keep in mind those aren't the actual filenames, I am just shortening them; plus you will want to rename them for easier flashing)
Install:
1. Boot phone to bootloader.
2. Extract factory image into the platform tools folder
3. Run flash-all script
4. After done reboot back to bootloader (dont do the phone setup)
5. Now remove the factory image from platform tools (or just extract a clean platform tools folder)
6. Place twrp.img, twrp.zip, kernel.zip and magisk.zip into the platform tools folder (rename the files to make it easier to type them out when flashing with computer adb)
7. Run: fastboot boot twrp.img (or whatever you named it)
8. When in twrp, go to settings and turn off "screen timeout" there is a bug
9. Go to advanced then "adb sideload"
10. In your computer terminal type: adb sideload twrp.zip
11. Then run: adb sideload kernel.zip
12. Then run: adb sideload magisk.zip
13. Reboot to system
Should be good! Using sideload allows you to pass files from your computer to your phone, it makes it easy. If adb sideload is "hanging" or "freezing" (you should see a kinda progress bar with it's working) then reboot twrp.img and try a different USB port. There is a glitch when it hangs, where when you remove the USB cable the phone goes black; just hold power + volume down for about 10 seconds and it will boot back to bootloader.

GUIDE - How to install TWRP when you cannot boot recovery image as boot image

I found a way to install twrp when you are trying to flash recovery image as boot image (there is a thread with all the instructions) So, i've tried final steps:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
fastboot reboot and pressing vol up to boot recovery and flash recovery installer
Surprise, I enter to fastboot mode again when reboot, no matter if i want to boot normally or recovery, always reboot to fastboot.
Then I tried some things and finally found a way to install TWRP.
1. Copy boot.img to internal storage
You can copy to internal or external, whatever, if you have downloaded a firmware just copy it
Here is boot for android 10: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zjOY1urQ4Zp3xNvgZM6Y1fm0kYCZ2iYs/view?usp=sharing
2. Download and install magisk manager
I used lastest version from magisk official site
Open magisk and click select and patch, wait until finished and copy the magisk patched boot to your pc (same folder as your minimal and fastboot)
3. Install patched boot
Type these command
fastboot devices (you can skip this one)
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
fastboot reboot
4. Install Smart Flasher
Go to play store an search smart flasher
or there is the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartpack.smartflasher
5. Flashing TWRP installer
Open app and click flash icon and search your TWRP installer, just wait and in a few minutes you will have TWRP installed
6. Install SHRP (optional)
SHRP is the best for me, you have a lot of extra features (manage magisk modules, a better file explorer, customization)
After you finished TWRP installation, just reboot to recovery and flash SHRP installer, and enjoy
It maybe seems tedious, but trust me, it's easier than be fighting against fastboot mode, sorry if i have bad english, i tried to explain it the best i could.

Question installing custom recovery when device has AOSP recovery

So I installed a A13 AOSP rom (Evolution x) via orangefox and when I rebooted to recovery orangfox was gone and now I'm on AOSP recovery. I tried to "fastboot boot" TWRP but the phone restarts on black screen for several seconds then restarts again to system. and when I enter fastboot thro AOSP recovery and try to boot TWRP it just fails (says unrecognized command boot). how can I flash custom recovery? i was thinking of trying sideload but with fastboot not working properly, I dont want guessing and rather ask someone with more knowledge with AOSP recovery and what could be causing fastboot not working properly
PS/ AOSP recovery is not detecting otg, and when choosing apply updates from internal storage it says it cant mount /data

It is because flashing rom also flash the recovery packed along with the rom, and it will replace your old recovery. To prevent it you need to also tick on the reflash ofox option when you flash a rom, which is too late in your case.
So, if you want to reflash ofox recovery, download and extract the zip file, locate the recovery.img in the extracted folder, reboot to bootloader and issue this command:
Code:
fastboot boot /path/to/recovery.img
then reboot to recovery with the command:
Code:
fastboot reboot recovery
and your device will temporarily boot into ofox recovery
The last step is to flash the recovery to ramdisk to make it permanently, you can find this option in ofox settings.

Thank you mf this worked! Booting twrp through fastbood just gave me black screen so I didnt think that booting Ofox would be any different but it actually booted Ofox recovery and I flashed it no problem. If anyone's going to attempt this make sure to backup your data before cause you'll need to format data
