Odd screen responsiveness issue - Google Pixel 3a XL Questions & Answers

I recently received a 3a XL I’m using for app testing and, though it’s brand new, the screen is behaving extremely odd. Intermittently the screen seems to lose track of a glide movement. I’ve tried factory reset, replacing the screen, re-flashing, but it acts as if during a glide touch some other process grabs priority and the program acts as if I’ve stopped gliding. I’ve turned on “Show Screen Taps” and it looks like it intermittently registers touches once every 30ms or so but doesn’t register them all as one glide.
Has anyone seen this? Is there a known solution?
Thank you

I’ve disabled or uninstalled most google apps, but still getting interrupts. Any help?

[Q] Advice on unlock/digitiser issue

Hi
I upgraded to my new DHD less than 3 weeks ago. It is not rooted and I did the recent OTA update over Christmas.
Over the last couple of days I have started to experience difficulty unlocking the device on the slide-to-unlock screen. The problem seems intermittent - somethimes it will unlock fine, and other times the slider just seems to "get stuck" at the bottom of the screen.
At first I thought this a bug or something, but after some investigation I am concerned there is a problem with the digitiser. I opened a picture and zoomed in to fill the screen and tested the touchscreen in different places by sliding the picture around. What I found was that the bottom 1cm of the screen above the keys does not respond properly to Up and Down swipes. It is fine however with side-to-side and also individual taps. This is obviously a problem when trying to move the unlock slider!
I've had a screen protector on for about a week - I don't imagine this has caused the issue but haven't removed it to test as yet as I don't have a spare. Aside from this, the device has been very well looked after, definitely no bumps etc and kept in an HTC leather pouch.
Any ideas? Should I return it to CW?
Thanks
OK, I seem to have resolved this for the time being but expect the problem to return.
I downloaded a screen test app that allows you to draw on the screen and got some very strange results. A 1cm band of screen about 1cm up from the bottom was completely unresponsive. Trying to draw a horizontal line within this band would result in lines being drawn either above or below it, or strange vertical lines "jumping" around. The rest of the screen was fine. I realised this is why I have been struggling to close the keyboard - the button is placed within this band and trying to press it would result in on of the buttons above or below being pressed. Also have had problems with the sapce bar.
I did a restart (not fast) and this has resolved the issue, however I expect it may return as I did a restart only yesterday.
At least it is obviously software and not the digitiser....
Hi again. As expected, the issue returned after a couple of hours. This time however, restarting is not making a difference.
I resorted to a hard rest, which has not changed anything either.
Any help/ideas would really be appreciated...
Best to return it for repairs or exchange. Seems like the digitiser is faulty.

I agree, this definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

[Q] Weird Touchscreen Issue

I got my G3 about a week ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it, however in the last couple of days I've been having a recurring intermittent issue with the touchscreen.
Essentially what's been happening is when the phone's gotten a bit warm the touchscreen stops registering long presses or swipes properly, and adds random break points in the swipe, this is especially annoying when trying to use the continuous input on the keyboard or add widgets.
Obviously the phone's still under warranty, so I'll return it if need be, but I was wondering if anyone else was having this issues or had any theories.
Thanks for your time.
the lg g3 is on top 3 list this fall and I did read about some of the heating problems
but based on your comments and the fact it is under warranty, I would replace it at your earliest convenience--:good:
I have to admit I have had nearly the same issue. My phone has been perfect everywhere except when it gets hot from a highly demanding game (demanding in the CPU Heat generation sense, games as simple as Angry Birds Epic cause it to get hot) and once it does, it gets to a point the touchscreen become much more erratic and less consistent on detecting taps, swipes, and holds. This digs badly into games since everything has onscreen controls and when the touchscreen looses its ability to detect touches, then all bets are off until the device cools down a bit.
It is not overly hot or uncomfortable to hold. The phone feels rather warm but otherwise everything looks and runs fine, just the touch input goes to crap for a few seconds then comes back. Has anyone else experienced this under a heavy load?
Have you resolved your issue?

I've been having a similar issue with my LG G3. I'm very pleased with the phone's overall performance but it has this touchscreen issue that's really affecting how I can use it. It has a great proc and gaming capabilities but I can't play some games because I can't rely upon the screen to register presses every time.
Have you been able to solve your issue? If so, what did you do?

Weird touch screen issue?

I had some ugly but purely cosmetic damage/scratches to the frame and screen on my Pixel 3 XL (fell about 8 inches out of my pocket on to my driveway while I was crouched, working under my truck) and I decided to get uBreakiFix (they are the official repair centers for Google and they use OEM parts and official Google repair manuals) to replace it for $400 because I was tired of looking at it and I'll be using it for at least another year and a half.
Anyhow, they ordered the parts last week and did the work today and everything seemed fine, the phone looked brand new but a few hours later I noticed while I was typing a text that when I was trying to type "an" my screen was registering a swipe between my two thumbs as I typed, causing my keyboard to type a bunch of letters and this kept happening until I stopped typing for a second and then it was fine. I just thought it was bug and restarted the phone, but now I notice it's doing frequently and randomly and not only when I'm typing. I download an app to test the touch screen and it seems totally fine but if I sit and tap two points on the screen one after the other over and over, randomly it will register as a swipes in between each other, repeatedly until I stop for a couple of seconds and then if I start again it will be fine. Sometimes this happens after two seconds of tapping, sometimes it takes several minutes.
I booted into safe mode and it still happened so I'm guessing it's the new display, but it just seems weird because it's completely random and the screen works totally fine otherwise (it registers all of my single touches and actual swipes just fine). I even thought maybe there was some sort of residue/coating on the screen from factory and gave it a clean with some 99% isopropyl alcohol but that didn't do anything.
Anyone experience anything similar before?
Similiar issue happened on a different phone and it was after screen replacement. Sometimes it was registering normally but then it was acting weird. Normally only when charging this might happen(Power signal quality and ESD) but normally not.
Try using a screen test app, show it to the shop for proof and request for replacement.

Sudden phone screen issue

Hello,
I've had my A70 for almost 8 months now, it's been great and I never had any issues with it, no root, no ROMS, nothing out of ordinary. While I was using it yesterday night, the screen suddenly turned off, I was surprised because the battery was almost full, so I thought maybe I pressed on the power button by mistake, so I pressed it once again, only to keep looking at my reflection on the screen, I tried force rebooting the phone, no luck, OK google works, Face recognition also works normally, everything is working, but I can't see anything on the screen, I thought that it might be a screen issue, but I don't think it is anymore, because sometimes when I hold it in certain ways, the screen works but with apparent noise/flicker, or shows incorrect colors, I'd like to show you but sadly I don't own any other phone. Could it be a connector issue that can be fixed easily? and if anyone is in Germany, any idea how much a fix could cost?
Thank you.

I had an issue with the screen a while back and went to a Samsung service. They replaced the screen along with the battery under warranty.

If it's under warranty, go to your regional Samsung office for repair

Screen not responsive

Hi all,
Since I got the A70 I had a little issue. Sometimes the screen just stops reacting to touch. It happened once in 2-3 weeks, so to be honest I was not to bothered by it, I forced the phone to restart and that was it.
However, I recently cracked my screen and replaced it. Since I replaced the screen the same issue happens 2-3 times a day, which is very annoying. The screen reacts a little bit, but not enough to unlock the phone. When I restart the phone it works again, so it seems like a software issue.
Is this a known problem? Anything I can do?
