Since uConnect 6.5 is end of lifed and I didn't upgrade my 2013 Town and Country in time, I had to dig around a bit to upgrade the firmware, and it turns out upgrading maps was a breeze too.
These NavRepair guys have the files of all the old firmwares. I recommend updating to the latest. Upgrade sequentially to avoid bricking your car (radio).
So 24.xx.xx to 33.xx.xx to 50.00.07 to 50.01.01
https://navrepair.com/pages/downloads
This site had a later firmware for my RHB 430N model.
https://m.mygig-disk.com/download-rbz.php
Unzip or mount/7zip the ISO and copy the entire contents to the root of your USBdrive (Fat32 only).
Should be a bunch of directories and lst files... including
/Garmin/ which has a gcdupdate file.
Unlocked Maps can be found everywhere. Torrents of "city-navigator-north-america-2020-usa-canada" or maybe ask around here or
https://www.navitotal.com/new-maps/
Or leave your maps as is. Not necessary to update maps but I wasn't able to update maps without also updating firmware.
Note: you can downgrade uConnect to v33.xx.xx which has a bug to update maps that are not unlocked. But I'm camping right now so I don't have the data for that.
https://www.navitotal.com/new-maps/
e.g. Find something like... gmapprom(8420).rar
Download.
Copied "gmapprom.img" to
-> USBcard/Garmin/gmapsupp.img
(Note the name change, alongside gcdupdate file)
Insert USB in NAV Head Unit.
Start vehicle (or charge battery while off, maybe). Once started, don't turn off. Don't even reverse.
Within minutes, it should prompt you to update the NAV.
Took an hour. After it updated in the software twice (NAV then radio update) it did the map too.
Thanks to JK_roller from wrangler/jeep forums. His pdf is attached.
So my next step is to update all the images to theme it into something my kids would like. Changing the default image on the radio is easy. But I'd also like to fix all the other images (startup, etc).
The dat images appear to be customized. The Sirius images were just PNG but the system images aren't jpg, PNG, pcx, BMP or anything normal.
A Google search netted me this script:
https://github.com/jcarr/scripts/blob/master/testimages/test.rb
This ruby script converts the dat images to PNG. I just need to convert PNG to DAT.
My theory is that changing the files in the firmware update should change the startup images.
Where did you get a copy of the firmware? I have a Maserati and it has a Uconnect head unit. Like everything Maserati there is nothing out there to Google.

I was trying to change the startup/splash screens on my Samsung i760 with WM6. I found the file VerizonStartupAni.gif which is basicly an animated verizon logo that appears before the windows mobile splashscreen. I tried changing it to another animated gif but after some poking around its attributes are read only/hidden/system/in ROM. Using total Commander I tried to change these settings but they just reset right after. Is there anyway to disable the system from changing it back to default? I tried to replace it with the new file but keep getting the same write protected error, even if i name the new file with the same name. Perhaps there is a way to unlock the (in ROM) box. It appears in gray and doesn't allow me to alter it. Any help and suggestions would be awesome. Played around with it for 2 hours, even poked around regedit for anything useful with no luck. Maybe I missed something.
Try renaming the original file,
then copying the new file to the same location with the same name.
I made some custom animations and sounds that may work on your device. I configured them for the kaiser but the files should be in the same place.
Try the link in my signature and install the cab.
Here we go!
3 Relevant partitions on the Zune HD:
ZBoot
NK
EXT
(there's actually a 4th partition, but it's a recovery partition for NK to facilitate fail-safe updating)
Enjoy
(a note: some files appear to be damaged, its my first time dumping a CE 7/Zune HD ROM )
(another note: thanks to nd4spd for getting the rom update to me, i don't have a zune hd )
wow I'll take a look.
Anything usable?
These executables are designed for CE 7 and more than likely will not work at all on CE 5 (although things coded for .NET might)
Really, you tell me, though, I haven't actually tried
Awesome! Subscribed...
Wait...so you're telling me it might be possible to create custom roms on the zune hd?!?! i need them to come out with a 128 gb model asap then...
WOW....they were trying to dump a zune rom for years.... so this means the protection on the zune HD is not nearly as strong as the regular zune...this is good news indeed...Mine is on backorder still =x
Another quick Q, did you dump that yourself or find it somewhere?
been trying to find this for a few weeks
looking forward to see what can be done!
are the keyboard files in a format that we can use on windows mobile phones?

Actually, all I did was reset my Zune HD in recovery mode and plugged it in. When the Zune Software detected it, it downloaded the ROM from MS. When I was defragging my computer a few days earlier, I happened to find the folder where it saved all of the Firmware Updates. So I just looked in that folder and found the FirmwareUpdate.cab that had the .bin files in it.
after messing around with it, looks like nothing can really be recmoded to make dll files. it may need another way to rec mod than in the vk.
So does this mean that the Zune HD will be unlocked shortly?!

Err.. forgive my ignorance.. but is Zune HD locked?
In what way?
I think what he means by unlocking is to unlock for ROM modification and development.

The ROM is saved in a .cab file to %HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Zune\Firmware Updates
7-Zip or another unzipping software can extract it out into the 4 .bin files, ext.bin, nk.bin, recovery.bin, and zboot.bin.
I have not yet succeeded to breaking it down into DLLs, it seems like there are multiple DLLs compiled into one .bin file.
Interestingly enough, some of the plaintext I saw in the recovery file was associated with camera/photography code (do a ctrl-f for "autofocus" or "lens" in the recovery.bin file in wordpad). However, I'm guessing it is the remnants of WinCE code, not for the Zune HD (or a successor?). It still begs the question of why it would be included in the recovery code though...
Hope that someone can use this for something...

To break it down, you need to use cvrtbin.exe to convert it to the .nb0 format. Once you have that, as Da_G pointed out to me, you can use Xipport.exe's dump xip function to dump whichever converted file. Unfortunately, xipport has an error on the last file, so I'm going to try to fix that this evening.
You can also view the files in Da_G's first post

Ahh... haha, I thought he linked to the raw .bin files and I figured that it would be easier to grab them from your own computer than download them. Whoooops!
I am curious, has anyone disected the Zune HD Hardware? I wonder what extra hardware got left behind that is not currently activated (and possilby not licensed). The core chipset can handle all of the common peripherals that you might find in a WM7 class phone chasis.
At the very least you should be able to see the sort of antenna and amps in there.
the Imageupdate system clearly works, so one approach to updating it (unlocking and or removing security) is to use the imageupdate system (on device or from your desktop, or possibly OTA). Although you would need to know a good bit about the NK and zloader for wm7. WM7 is a more streamlined, efficifient design, but - unfortunatey - there is a lot more in the kernel which makes updating individual bits more difficult without a full link.
It is a little bit more like the X360 design in this sense.
I believe that imageupdate is only known the to the end users as the engine for Windows Phone Update or -previously - FOTA (firmware over the air)
As Da_g mentioned, this is the first commercial device (to my knowledge) to use WCE7/WM7 (in general, WM is just a big OAK on WCE)
What certs are in the full CAB?
Hi. I have a LG Fathom and I want to cook its ROM. However, to cook that I guess I need its ROM first. If you know there to find its ROM or if you know how to dump the ROM, can you please help me?
Thanks
Install Microsoft's Network Monitor** (its free - netmon from now on, im lazy ) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f&displaylang=en
Close all your browser windows, instant messenger, email, anything that uses the network should be stopped while you do this.
Start netmon, and tell it to capture all the traffic on your network card.
Then start the lg-updater program (get it from lg directly), and have it check for updates for your phone.
Go back to network monitor and stop capturing traffic when it's done.
You can then either browse through the captured traffic in netmon directly, and see if you can find a url yourself (it'll be an exe or kdz file) or send me the capture file and I'll find it.
**If you're familiar with wireshark you could use that instead of netmon.
Hey there can90. If you manage to get the base rom for the LG Fathom would you be able to post the link. There is some stuff in that phone that I'm sure others would love to port to other phones; including myself
Can we flash unsigned roms to the Fathom?
Can90 managed to get me a network capture to look through, unfortunately it doesn't contain a reference to the stock rom. I assume this is because LG just hasn't uploaded it yet.
For anyone that wants to play with URLs to try and find it, this is the relevant portion of the response to lg's updater app.
<model>LGVS750SS</model>
<suffix>AVRZDB</suffix>
<esn_date>20100420</esn_date>
<sw_version />
<sw_url />
<sw_locale_url>/</sw_locale_url>
<sw_recommand_uri>AIC/GLOBAL</sw_recommand_uri>
<app_version />
<app_url />
<cs_em_flag>N</cs_em_flag>
<cs_em_uri>N</cs_em_uri>
<chip_type />
normally sw_url and sw_locale_url would have what we want, but they're empty
Hopefuly I will be getting an LG Fathom tomorrow so I will try to help out here. Has anyone else had any luck snagging a complete ROM from LG's site yet?
Nobody that I've been able to find.
I have discovered there is a seemingly different (from the generic one used for the expo) updater for verizon.
I haven't actually looked at it yet, but it's different from the usual B2CAppSetup and is labelled as 1.0.1.8 (the generic one offered up on lg's site is 1.0.1.7) ( http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/client/app/Verizon/LGMobileUpdate.exe )
I'm not sure which one can90 used (I've pm'd him to find out and try the other) but if you've got a phone and a few minutes you could try them both.
Just as an update - I joined the LG forums and posted a question on the fathom update. Here is the post - http://www.lgcommunity.com/forums/aff/6/aft/6481/afv/topic.aspx
When I find out there's an update I will let everyone know.
I just checked the lg update tool and the fathom is on the list as of this morning! It wasn't there when I looked last night.
Is it possible that the fathom update could be a cab file? so far I have this -
URL: /swdata/WEBSW/LGVS750/AVRZDB/VS750ZV5_06/VS750ZV5_06.SV5_06.P58006.R5.cab
Edit:
link here - http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdat.../VS750ZV5_06/VS750ZV5_06.SV5_06.P58006.R5.cab

This doesn't appear to be a real cab file....not one that anything I've got recognizes anyways
Windows explorer opened it when others couldn't
At 130 megs it probably is what we're after, just in a new (to me at least) format. Did you try flashing it?
Running "strings" against it the first few turned up are
These are the contents of the cab file
VS750ZV5_06.SV5_06.P58006.R5.wdb
VS750_W_1_0_7_0.dll
VS750ZV5_06.SV5_06.P58006.R5.wdh
the wdh/wdb are not extensions I'm familiar with and I'd be more than a bit surprised if it was a ms works database. I'll try and take a closer look at the file later today if nobody else has by then.
Edit: Apparently that's the same packaging the vs740 came in. From what I could find, people hadn't been able to find tools to successfully unpack the wdb.
Going through the flashing process should leave a .bin file in the usual lgmobileax location, not clear whether that's something we can unpack with existing tools either.
Hey there da_reeseboy. Great find on the firmware. Once quick question though that may help me get past where I am stuck extracting the firmware. What is the firmware version that is running on your fathom. If your not sure where to look, got to start menu/Settings/System/System Info and click on the plus box next to Version Info. What does it say after ROM?

I don't have a version info with a plus sign next to it but under software version it says VS750ZV4
Thanks da_reeseboy. I see that that is an older version than the cab from the updater program. I haven't had any success extracting the files. If someone with a fathom is willing to try this we may be able to get the rom. We would need someone to attempt to flash their phone to the new firmware. To do this run the updater program and connect your phone to your computer. Next, make sure you have an activesync connection and start update. It should place the phone in emergency download mode. The update program should start running, will detect your phone, download the new firmware and start loading it to your phone. This is where you will need to search for the rom. In win xp go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\Phone
in win7:
C:\Users\All Users\LGMOBILEAX\Phone
The rom should be in that folder. Just simply copy it somewhere so that you have a copy of it after exiting the updater since the updater deletes the file after completion. After that we would just need you to upload the rom to a free file sever and post the link for someone to download.
I'll be happy to try it in the morning with some coffee lol. I'll post my findings.
Edit: Do we want to try to pull the current version on my phone first before flashing the update? Just as something to compare to?
just an update - I dumped the stock rom, then tried to do the update but my computer is saying that it can't connect to the com port. I'm gonna try it on my laptop when I get back home (family was hungry so we went to get food). does anyone know if the update tool has an issue with win7 64 bit vs 32 bit?
Edit: home now, started update on my laptop - its working great so there must be an issue with 64 bit...
Update done. I snagged the files in that folder, but I don't think they will do us much good - its just the contents of the cab file.
For those interested, here is the contents of the phone folder during the update -
http://www.multiupload.com/5ZA2Z2QB00
Hey da_reeseboy. Thanks for trying. i was hoping that the updater would unpack the wdb file. Guess it didn't. You had mentioned something about dumping the original version on your phone. Do you have a copy of the dump?
I just finished uploading it and a dump of the update -
VS750ZV4 - http://www.multiupload.com/M7FYR42S60
VS750ZV5 - http://www.multiupload.com/KTED97KZU3
Think we can do anything with these?
Hey all,
I had a hard time deciding whether this was worth a topic or not, but it might come in handy for some of you, so here it is...
All one needs is a developer (or student, or chevron) unlocked device and at least one app slot available.
Now if you deploy this xap (based on Heatcliff's Nokia Interop Unlock test) it will remove the splashscreen of whatsapp (that ugly green thing).
The app called Nokia Interop Unlock test or something like that can be removed directly after having it deployed to your device.
Credits where its due, thank Heatcliff for discovering this method.
THIS IS PURE COSMETIC, IT WILL GET RID OF THE UGLY GREEN/BLUE SPLASH SCREEN
UPDATE v2:
This version replaces the original splash screen with a corrupted file, a blanco textfile renamed to a jpg. This seems to work fine and will probably also work on the white theme
EDIT: This will naturally work with other apps also if one replaces the the GUID in the "../../" folder in the xap itself.
EDIT2: For dark themes only. If you rock a white theme, you will need to open the image inside the "../../guid/Install/" folder in the xap for a white image. Version 2 will probably work on the white theme also.
works fine on my lumia 800!
thanks.
Will the splashscreen be restored with an update of WhatsApp?
Yes, an update will probably restore it. Deleting and re-installing htis app will remove it again, though. You should probably delete the app after installing anyhow; unless you're interop-unlocked it will use up one of your unsigned app slots until deleted. The change it amkes won't be reverted upon deletion, though.
I have not had an update of whatsapp yet to confirm. But like GDTD said, I do indeed suspect that the update will also overwrite the splash screens so yes one will need to redeploy this after an update.
IS this purely cosmetic or does it improve app start up speed?
Purely cosmetic. It doesn't remove the splash screen at all, it just replaces it with a blank image.
As expected it does not survive an update.
I will look into the possibility of replacing it with a blanco image, because now its just a black image (its a jpeg). No image at all would be better as that will work on both themes. Unfortunately heatcliffs method does not allow deleting files (duh). So that wont be very straight forward. I will try a corrupted file maybe that will work
Ok my test with a corrupted file was succesfull, I've updated the first post with a version 2. This should work on both themes as it just replaced the jpg splash screen image with an empty jpg file.
Also it does not show a splash screen at all now so it looks like it boots up a tad quicker

Did you solve the problem ?
If you did not:
go to folder where you saved app, ---> huawei_watch_face_maker-win32-ia32_v066b\packager, delete Output folder and com.huawei.watchface file.
Also in root folder of app make Theme folder where you will save your work.
You should be good to go. Good luck.
Thank you for trying to help.

Can someone help to understand ? For the record I tried re-extracting the full app, I tried deleting the files you talked about but nothing helps. I also tried launching the app as an admin.

Hi
Great watchface maker. Previously used a similar one to create faces for Amazfit Bip so, after a wee refresher, I was able to create a nice face. Unfortunately, now that I've finished it, I can't get the damn thing to export to .hwt file, it's stuck on "wrapping up". I've been over it again and again and don't see any problems. Any ideas?
I've made sure not to have any "white spaces" or symbols in my program folder or target folder. I've even put both folders on root of C: drive and tried compatibilty mode and run in admin. I've even tried stripping out every widget except the background but I can't get it to compile the final file. Rage.

update: Tried it out on my old mother's ancient win7 laptop and it worked first time! weird, cos my pc is a beast.
Now, the only problem I've got is a rotating arm (for a battery guage) that refuses to budge from the centre of the face. Is there a limit on rotation widgets? I've got a steps target guage and hour-and-minutes hands on a small analogue clock. Tried removing the widget and building it from scratch - still get the same result.
