unlocked firmware with carrier CSC? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I've got an N975U1 (i.e., US unlocked N10+) on T-Mobile. Sometimes new firmware for that model is not released OTA by T-Mobile, so I flash the XAA version manually. But if I understand correctly, I lose some features that way (e.g., VoLTE and RCS).
But if I were to flash a new firmware version using that version's BL ,AP, and CP files, but with a TMO CSC file taken from a previous firmware version (when the new firmware hasn't yet been released with the TMO CSC), would that work? And would it give me the missing TMO features?
If the answers are yes, then also, if I flash a subsequent firmware version using HOME_CSC (to keep my settings etc.), would I still keep all the TMO features at that point?

You only loose the built in video calling in the dialer. VoLTE and RCS should work just fine.. T-Mobile is rather friendly towards bring your own devices and allowing access to all the features the network offers. This is in contrast to AT&T that provisions things like VoLTE (and other features) to devices they sell via a whitelist of IMEI numbers.

That will not work. You can't mix and match pieces of previous firmware versions with current firmware versions.

I just checked and the dialer does have a video-call icon. There's no setting anywhere for VolTE/HD-voice, so I'm not sure if it's enabled. I haven't tried RCS.

Ok, thanks. Just for future reference, is there any other method for changing the CSC in order to obtain carrier-specific features with the unlocked firmware?
EDIT: I just saw another thread about this question. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/csc-change-t3983769

Sorry, was typing the reply on my phone and the auto complete chose the wrong word.
No toggle will be present in the settings menu for VoLTE as it is automatically enabled. If you place a call and your data stays on LTE then your good to go. RCS should be available if your using Google Messages.
Not that I know of outside of flashing the USERDATA and CSC for the carrier in question. At that point you might as well run the N975U firmware for the carrier. If your going to flash the CSC or USERDATA from T-Mobile make sure it's the same firmware version as what your trying to flash with the U1 firmware.

I just got done changing my CSC from xar to att to get the latest on my unlocked note 10+, no issues here

Yup, but the problem is that T-Mobile seems to lag in releasing new firmware, both for N975U and N975U1. That's why I've been flashing the N975U1 firmware manually.

I just removed my SIM, rebooted, changed it by *#272*IMEI#, checked for updates, there were actually two coming from XAR to ATT. Once the last update was done I just put my SIM back in and the phone rebooted on its own to change back to XAR. No wipe, no loss of any data. hope this helps!

Damn....I want to flash this so much on my tmobile (us) version :silly:
Is it possible to do that? I'm in the same boat.
I'm not very familiar with samsung modding, unfortunately

Yes it's possible but we need to flash on top our (tmobile) kernel.
I also can't find our tmobile frimeware tar (for odin in case of bootloop)
Damn....booooooring
Hmm I'm downloading the TMO firmware from SamsungUpdate to start, but it's gonna take another 6 hours because of their metered connection -_-.
We'll see how that works out, but ideally I'd be 100% debloated and rooted with Samsung Pay working.
Don't think that'll be possible, but at least we're dealing with unlocked bootloader devices haha

hello
any lucks for the SM-G928C ?
My edge plus is already on 5.1.1 - why the desire to download the same version of firmware from another country? Maybe I'm missing something...
That's not new
Guys, the phone is running great!
Updating for the sake of updating isn't always a good thing when out of the box it's actually working well!
When a device has problems there are threads everywhere of complaints. When a device works things are quiet usually with just the usual how to question. Of course everyone wants root, when it comes it comes. Be patient!

I do not believe you have to do anything.
While yes, both are version 5.1.1, if you look at the last 4 digits of your firmware build number you should see AOGD. The new firmware build number ends in AOH2, showing this is a newer build date. Nothing major, probably just a few under the hood changes, which usually means a liitle better performance.

what about the root-ability?
If you are rooted on an older firmware, and you flash a stock rom via Odin you will lose your root access. So long as your phone model can be/is rooted on your current firmware, after you flash the newer firmware just follow the same steps to root your phone again.

What is the difference between the XAS, and SPR versions of the firmware?

Hi
every time i search for a stock rom i find XAS and SPR versions , what is the difference between them ?
i read a comment that the XAS version is kinda for developers builds, is that correct ?

I don't have enough information about the difference but my device was on SPR and now it changed to XAS.
No thing is different except that Yellow sprint logo changed to Samsung logo and some csc features changed.
My device still working.
I think maybe if any subscriber of sprint network could notice a little more changes.
Since I am not a Sprint subscriber so I don't notice any difference.

They are they same except for csc settings.
SPR will give you sprint branding and csc.
XAS will give you regular samsung branding.
If your using your phone global or gsm like me, I prefer XAS.
I notice most apps that unlock your sim will make it XAS to. So I believe xas sets csc to work better unlocked but don't quote me.
Did it remove that annoying hands free activation???
Which should world or GSM user choose;Sprint or XAF Samsung Note 4 firmware versions?
Hi, am a world/ GSM Note for user. My firmware keeps requesting for update just 60 seconds after prior update. My present software is SPR. My phone heavily discharge and i feel as incriminating the present firmware version and its regular demand for firmware update.
Someone, proposed i download and flash up my phone with latest firmware. At SamMobile, there are options for Sprint and XAF versions of firmware. Please anyone with an advice on selection choice and maybe a little comment.

Still there on the XAS version.
And for the boot sound it has the Note 3/ S4 version instead of the normal S5/Note 4 one.

Moto Z2 Force Xt1789-06 UK Vodafone Oreo update?

Got a good deal on a moto z2 force (with 3 moto mod accessories, so had to snap it up) - From Vodafone UK
Question about Oreo updates on this phone. Does not exist yet as I believe it is down to the carrier and networks to finalise, test and release, hence the delays.
I am aware that there are quite a few oreo firmware for retail models. (Although none exist yet for XT1789-06?) I have already unlocked the bootloader and I wanted to update to the recent ones. What I am worried about is the IMEI baseband. Anyone had success with this specific model (06)?
There's root, su ,magisk and xposed on this thread thanks to enetec.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2...w-to-safely-blunlock-twrp-root-t3704596/page1
Have not seen any oreo related updates, I did read on another thread that the t-mobile Oreo update was pulled because it was having issues with calls I think so maybe our version they are having the same issues. Have not even found a flash all file for our device so one a bit hesitant about even trying any other Rom.
Official bootable and flashable twrp works on nougat. Sprint wasn't on Oreo until late Feb z so I have used the first iteration on my phone before the Oreo OTA. It will have decryption support which is advised compared to encryption not working. That's a huge security risk. I'd suggest using official twrp and magisk if you want root. That way you keep encryption.

Hi there updated mine to Oreo with the file in this link https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/nash/official/RETAIL just follow the instructions in the link In post 2 on this thread, I'm pretty sure you can skip the unlocking bootloader (unless you want root as I do)
No, the above is no good for my carrier/phone (Vodaphone UK) Results in wifi and modem not working. Also 3 sparse files are missing. Used a US based USC Oreo rom and works perfectly now however

I had the the wifi problem when i flashed twrp (but still had network), then flashed the rom in my last post I am also on the uk vodafone model. could you post a link to the rom you flashed please.
It was this one https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962187416754473797
It did give error in regards to the bootloader writing (and timed out - so did not overwrite bootloader) - I already have bootloader unlocked and was on Nougat when I recieved the phone. After updating to oreo, however with the exception of the carrier logo during boot, I have found no issues whatsoever with this rom on a Vodafone XT1789-06 UK model device. I also uninstalled or disabled US based applications / carrier bloat.
Everything works fine (Moto mods, Wifi, network, camera, 3d acceleration) etc
(Note, ignore the fact that the download is from the MotoZ2 play folder, there was no new directory for Z2 Force according to the uploader)
Cheers for the link already had this file downloaded but didn't flash it as I noticed it was a us Version. there was a update at 19:30 on the link I posted but have not flashed it yet, no bloatware on this rom just plain stock and all mods work will flash the update sometime over the weekend and let you know how it goes.
I tried the newer version recently and same issue (no wifi or modem), so reverted back to USC version
Hello guys i also have the z2 force on UK Vodafone and looking for a 8.0 update. Did you guys find one that completely works? i dont want to unlock the bootloader or root (stops my bank app).
Any news on this please?

Unlocking bootloader doesn't stop Banking apps but root will, I have an unlocked bootloader and on the xt1789-06 Vodafone UK running stock ROM from the link I posted above got both nationwide and Barclays apps and both run fine if you flash the first n version it will do all the seamless updates, it just seems Vodafone are a bit slow at pushing them.

Please Confirm - Does stock AT&T S9 allow Tethering?

I am trying to decide between these two versions.
I dont really see the downside to the AT&T version as I dont plan on switching carriers, and from what I understand, the unlocked version wont support certain AT&T calling features.
Aside from some additional bloat - I recall it used to be that the AT&T versions didnt allow tethering. I think they currently DO allow tethering, correct?
Any other downsides to choosing the AT&T variant?
Thanks
For tether u must subscribe to tethering package or mod to unlocked firmware change apn and enjoy
Thanks! So thats a big reason to go with an unlocked phone vs AT&T version...

Wifi Calling on Unlocked Samsung s20+ 5G

I recently bought the new unlocked Samsung s20+ 5G BTS phone from the Samsung website. I currently have AT&T and because I live in a rural area the wifi calling and texting are a must. I have tried contacting AT&T and also Samsung to help get the wifi calling on my s20 but no dice. I am also currently new to this and in desperate need of help as I love the s20+. I don't want to have to use my note 9 because I spent money on my s20+.

Unfortunately the slider to enable VoWIFI is greyed out.
I'm hardly the expert, but seems the the only option to get VoWIFI on the unlocked firmware is to...switch to T-Mobile. It's not just a matter of getting your IMEI registered either. I have an AT&T branded S20+ which I flashed to the unlocked firmware and still no VoWiFi for me. It was there on the AT&T firmware.
If it's a must, maybe flash the CSC or full firmware for AT&T using patched ODIN.
If you can wait a bit, I can confirm that WiFi calling can be enabled on the unlocked S20+ on AT&T on OneUI 3.0/Android 11. It was a pleasant surprise.
I can confirm that WiFi calling DOES work on OneUI 3.0/Android 11 for AT&T. Take that AT&T!!
I will warn you if you attempt this that it was a real PITA to flash back to BTIF to make this happen. My phone just didn't want to take the flash. I had to try several different versions of ODIN before it finally took.
The only thing left that doesn't work is video calling. I don't care about that though as the rest of my family is all Apple addicts so I have to use Duo any way.

Whenever Samsung releases the first public version of Android 11. At the rate they're going in the beta, I'd be shocked if it is not released by the end of the year. My guess would be by early December. You can hop into the beta, but it's not exactly for the faint of heart if you missed your chance to enroll in their official program. If you're not comfortable flashing phones and/or don't want to wipe your data and start over, I'd wait.

Basically when you flash firmware in Odin just plug in the Canadian firmwares csc and flash it along with.
Might not work with all firmwares but I've mixed u1/u/w firmwares.

+1 10 months out from a fellow Rogers customer.
I flashed the U1 FW out of box a year ago as I just didn't want any Rogers bloat. 5G was starting out at the time and I never noticed since LTE/LTE+ was sufficient for my usage. It was only when I upgrade my sister's iPhone that I noticed we had 5G in the area.
It's showing as RWC/RWC/XAC/RWC now though. And sw update is showing registration failed
Edit: Reflashed the U1 Home CSC looks to have resolved it. Got 5G and Rogers features and back to XAA/XAA/XAC
