Hello everyone thank you for your time it's been a couple days i'm doing reasearch on how to root my galaxy S9 (canadian) and i'm hitting a wall everytime and some post a far too old to be considered.
So my question is without the OEM unlock option in developper options am i doomed to not being able to root my phone ?
And yes i tried the trick with setting the date manually one month earlier but anyway my phone is more than 1 year old so i'm way past the 7 days delay.
Isn't there a way to unlock it with a computer via USB debugging mode ? ( juste an idea like that i know pretty much nothing)
Any clear answer would be greatly appreciated.

OEM Unlock option is pretty much like the gate to unlock your boot loader
if your phone doesn't have the option then that could be cause by some factors like,
- either you can't unlock (I believe there are few versions that factory lock which mean cant be unlocked)
- or you have faied to modify your phone, which you have to wait like 7 days to be able to modify again
That all I know, maybe anyone can correct me if I'm wrong

okay i understand more what OEM does thank so as long as i can't unlock it from the inside no modification can come from the outside
You should read through this thread. It has some options that may interest you. The Canadian SM-G960W S9 is definitely boot loader locked that makes it "normally" not able too install any custom ROMs or boot loaders. The good thing with it is that it doesn't trip KNOX!

Ok so i have read many posts on XDA about bricked nexus 5x's and many others, sometimes the main probelm is the oem isnt unlocked. I myself have a Nexus 5x that is completely stock no custom recovery no root no nothing, i just update the phone, right now on Nougat 7.0 sep security update.
So my question is, should i check the OEM unlocking in the settings ? i will never install any recovery or root but i think by reading the posts, it seems like its a major problem if this is not checked, should i check it just to be safe ?

If you have issues in your current state they will most likely be hardware related and unfixable via software. But even locked you can completely reinstall the OS via sideloading an OTA or using the TOT method.
Enabling OEM unlock disables Factory Reset Protection (FRP). FRP is a security feature that prevents a stolen device from being activated. There is allot of info about it online if you wish to learn more.
So you need to decide if you want FRP or the ability to flash the factory images.

Sure, flashing the factory images is probably slightly easier than the other methods. Note that in your case you would need to actually unlock the bootloader to flash the images. With those added steps it's probably faster to sideload.
The Allow OEM unlock toggle has been around since LP I think. An pretty sure it's in phones that shipped with LP. It didn't automagically mean that the phones bootloader can be unlocked though. It should stop disable FRP though.

By default the bootloader is locked on most OEMs (Sony, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, even Nexus devices).
For Nexus devices it's a simple one liner to unlock/lock the bootloader which will also trigger a data wipe but. On Nexus devices it doesn't void your warranty.
For most other OEMs phones you have to follow some steps and usually get some kind of code in order to unlock the bootloader the first time. This will void your warranty!
If you don't know whether or not you should unlock/lock the bootloader, the answer is: NO!

yo dude thx for the reply, as i said in my first post, i saw some bricked nexus 5x (they didnt mod anything i think) that couldnt be repaired cause he had the option unchecked about OEM, that is why i was asking for like a safety precaution that if something goes wrong it would be okay cause oem could be unlocked then... what do u say now ? (and yea im not gonna ever mod anything in the phone, learned fom my last phone which i somehow bricked and a man fixed it for for 5$ )

That catch is if if you checked OEM unloking and chose to not perform oem unlock command now.
When something did went wrong afterward, you are able to perform oem unlock but it will wipe your data.
There is no point for doing it.

Do you refer to lock and unlock the bootloader? I locked and unlocked it much times and I've never had problems (obviously considering the bootloader version).

Thanks for replying - could you perhaps write a guide as to exactly how you unlock your bl after using fastboot lock?
I have seen a few folks who appear stuck at that point and I and they would be happy campers if they could get around that!!!

But I guess I would have to call anyone who successfully locks and unlocks again their bootloader as darn lucky. Some, (many?) can't.
In the end I still have to ask "why the heck are you locking your phone" - what could you possibly gain? It's totally unnecessary. it can be a very expensive little line of code.
I lock my phone all the time, multiple times per day even! It's really easy to unlock: I simply put my finger on the sensor and voila!
Maybe you mean the bootloader? That would be a helpful little detail to add to the title of your post.

I've locked mine as I upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL and gave my Z Play to my father, so I don't really care if I can't unlock it again, but I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue anyway.

I prefer stock without modifications but sometimes when i have time to try news modifications or roms i used to unlocked the phone and after this relock again, the process that i use is very simple, i just unlock with the same code that Motorola gaves to unlock bootloader, i don't have sure but if you request unlock codes to many times can be a problem but i use the same code and works good.
Basically: relock as are specifcified in another topic in this device forum( using the last stock version that you used)
And after this unlock with code again
Obs.: Is not recommended to unlock/relock to many times.
Obs2.: I only did this three times and i don't know if has a limit

It is my opinion also that relocking is a bad idea. But if someone likes to do it, eg to get Google Pay working without Magisk, why do you want to warn him?
Relock only is possible in combination with flashing a complete correctly firmware. If something is wrong with the firmware you flash, relocking won't succeed. Your device won't be locked if it does not fully succeed or the firmware is not correctly signed. The unlock code is supposed to stay valid, you should be able to unlock your device as many times as you want using the same code.

Soooo, after enabling dev options and enabling oem unlock. download mode wont allow me to unlock the bootloader itself, theres no option for volume up to unlock. Any ideas / work arounds
If you recently got your phone there may be the 7 day block on it. Which basically disables you from unlocking the phone for 7 days. There is a workaround though where you set the time 8 days behind, check for update, restart the phone, change the time back to the correct time, and then oem unlock should be available under Developer Options!
my phone samsung a50 is stuck on boot logo (SAMSUNG), flashing, wipe data reset, but it cant. Same problems stuck on samsung logo. How did i fix?
Another thing to note is that phones in America likely have locked bootloaders, especially ones on Verizon. If you have a device from a US carrier other than that it should be fine...

If your phone is a US Variant (your phone model number: SM-A505U) then it can't be unlocked. I'm guessing your's is the SM-A505U?

Hope I'm not making any double post but I couldn't find any explanation for this very specific situation.
After thorough research it, it seems that most of samsung devices has a secret setting called "OEM unlock" that we have to use to do the first step of rooting the device. In some cases that setting is missing but can be displayed again by some "date settings" tricks or waiting 7 days. In some other cases which seems to be mine, the "OEM unlock" setting is simply removed by probably the carrier of the phone and can't be reinstated.
In that last case which seems to be mine, I can't find any precise information wether we can or we simply can't unlock bootloader by other way and therefore root the phone.
Could anyone enlighten me ?

I assume you know that the OEM unlock toggle is in the developer settings? To enable developers settings, tap build number repeatedly until it says you are now a developer. You will need no fancy trick to show it as the lock that hides OEM unlock, only came out in oreo. I don't think carriers disable OEM unlock on Samsung's but I could be wrong. You assume right. I enabled developers settings first, saw that I didn't have OEM unlock option visible, then started to look about this issue. It is quick to see that in many case, even for phone not on OREO (I'm with Marshmallow 6.0.1), this OEM unlock is missing. But based on internet available data, it seems that in most of the case there is a trick to make it visible again. It is a sort of samsung security against thief that hide this option for seven days.
The trick didn't work for me and by looking more I saw that some people seems to be facing the same situation as mine. Some suggest that it is disabled by carrier.
But I couldn't find a solution anywhere for that context.
My question remains.

The trick didn't work for you because there is no security thing on marshmallow. What carrier are you on if you don't mind telling? Samsung's aren't bootloader unlocked like other phones.

The Galaxy A3 2015 (SM-A300FU) has no OEM unlock as A3 from 2015 don't even have FRP Lock, neither it has RMM state. That means there is no lock which prevents you to flash any custom binaries like TWRP recovery with Odin. You'll only lose access to knox apps/services (because of knox 0x1), rest remains the same.

Carrier was French company called Bouygues.
About bootloader lock or not, I can see on various website that many samsung are bootloader locked but can be unlocked easily by this OEM unlock option. Sometimes it is missing. Two reasons for that : Security check that is removed after 7 days or apparently permanently removed by carrier or geographic area control.
If i'm in that last case, is there any other solution to unlock the boatloader ?Or the phone is just unrootable. It seems strange to me that some phone are just unrootable.

If you read @prototype74 's post it explains it quite well. I think your bootloader is already unlocked if I read right.

Thank you very much both of you for your help. Indeed there was no OEM unlock.
Many posts talking about OEM unlock existing on that A3 and the fact that I couldn't check if it was locked or not using the two methods advised (with adb or with a special code to dial up on the phone interface) led me to stop at that step to be sure before going on.
It is advises not to root a divise with a bootloader locked to avoid bricking it.
Anyway, trusting your input I did the whole process of rooting and putting a custom rom and it's all great !

Anyways I've had it turned on for 170+ hours without rebooting it. Yet I still don't see any mention of oem unlocking in Developer Options. Did I miss a step? I see some people mentioning stuff to do with changing the time and stuff and I tried that in the past with no success. I just tried to check for software updates then went back to developer options and still don't see anything about oem unlocking. I have put the phone in airplane mode a few times so could that be it?

Your not doing anything wrong and there is nothing you can do.
The SM-N975U and SM-N975U1 do not provide us with the ability to unlock our bootloader. This means we will not be given the OEM Unlock option.
But isn't unlocking bootloader part of rooting? Or is there a way around that? I mean I don't absolutely have to root it but I thought it would be cool to have the option. What's so different about this one that I can't be given the oem unlock option? Sorry if I sound irritated.. I am but not at anyone on here
Also I got this through us cellular. Maybe should have just bought it through Samsung? Model number would probably be different and would probably be able to get oem unlocking option
You should do a little more research. None of the US snapdragon Note10's are bootloader unlockable and hence, are not rootable. Doesn't matter where you purchased it. As far as I know, this is the case for all Samsung phones sold in the US and has been the case for quite a long time.

No US versions of the Note 10+ can be OEM unlocked or rooted. Does not matter if you bought it from Samsung carrier unlocked or from a service provider. Carrier versions are SM-N975U and unlocked version is SM-N975U1. It has been a very long time since you could root a Samsung US device. I believe the S6 or S7 were the last rootable Galaxy phones in the US. The Note 8 could be rooted with an engineering kernel but it was more of a hack since you could not fully charge the phone.
