It shouldn't affect updates.
However, if you're not on stock recovery, you will not get ant OTA updates. You'll need to go back to stock recovery for updates.

in the thread of nAa-r2 CWM for mini/pro/active/arc it say you can install stock rom in the recovery, and i searched for stock rom and i bumped into SE tweaked thread and i am confused if this are compatible. is SE TWEAKED really a stock rom? and one thing SE tweaked thread says that the requirement is unlocked bootloader, mine is still locked but i have fastboot and cwm.. what does that mean? enlighten me please.. thanks..
i think i also need a list of tweaked stock roms that can be use from nAa-r2 CWM..
thanks in advance to all who will answer my query.. ^_^
You can use that recovery on custom kernels/ROMs too.

no kidding?
wow.. but it says will only work on unlock bootloader.. mine is locked..
i just want to make sure that it will brick my phone..
this will be an expensive paper weight if that happens..
I've had a locked BL and that CWM recovery installed.
Then I unlocked my BL, flashed a kernel and the recovery and the backups where still there.

Yes, you can flash it even with locked BL.

thanks sir..
you helped me a lot..
I know some will say its answered somewhere in the forum , but i searched and it didnt give me a clear answer,
if i unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM and rooted my phone wothout flashing a new ROM, will i lose the ability to recive OTAs?
one more thing (sorry im asking alot) unlocking bootloader says that it will erase all phone data , does that include the SD card part of our phone since its internal ? will i lose the photos stored , or its just like flashing an RUU
Thank you so much

Firstly, yes you will lose the ability to receive OTA updates. With regards to the SD Card this will remain untouched.

Are you planning on using a stock rom or a custom rom?
EDIT: Sorry didn't read properly. Yes if you are using stock rom then you should be able to download the OTA update from somewhere on XDA. If you are using a custom rom then the chances are the Dev would have already updated there rom to the latest base.

Sorry to ask additional question:
If I intended to use stock ROM only and continue to receive OTA update but with rooted phone. What is the best suggestion?

in my understanding , you will have to unlock the bootloader and install a CWM recovery to root your phone and keep the stock ROM, but you will have to download and install the OTAs manually
see this link for more info : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577671

Just flash back the stock recovery, relock the bootloader, reboot the phone, receive OTA update and install. Then re-root process again to have root access.

Just wonder where to find the stock recovery? If my ROM is 1.28.xxxx then I must use back the 1.28.xxx stock recovery img file, isn't it? Where should I look for the exact stock recovery img file?

Hey guys,
since i flashed back to and older version to root the phone and then upgraded again, everytime my battery is empty and i plug in my phone in to charge, it ends in a bootloop. But when i press the back button to get into the recovery and then boot the phone from there it boots normally.
Someone knows what went wrong, when i rooted my phone?? :good:

here is a list of ROMs for your phone be sure you have Xperia Arc S not other phone never flash a ROM that is not for your phone because you can cause hardware damage to your phone
i cant install a custom rom, cause my bootloader is locked.
edit.:
can i install arconium (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475) cause it only requries a "stock kernel with CWM???
A unlocked bootloader is only usefull to install other kernels, but because this rom is compatible with a stock rom, i think i dont have to unlock the bootloader, right? :cyclops:

It seems Acronium requires an unlocked bootloader
for your first flash I recommend to install a stock-based ROM just leave bootloader as it is if you just wanna do this way then use a laptop when flashing /unlocking bootloader cause every failure in bootloader results in a dead-phone then only service tools save your phone -your phone is bricked
so search in that list for a ROM that is stock-based choose one with good howto instructions

ok thank u
Can you recommend me a fast rom which is working with a locked bootloader, cause i dont want to risk to install a rom, which is not compatible with my phone, and then my phone is broken ..
So if something goes wrong it is NOT possible to restore with CWM recovery?
here some information about my phone:
baseband-version: 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-72
Kernel-version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
android: 4.0.4
build number: 4.1.8.0.4.31

You can buy from any carrier you want. You don't need to unlock your bootloader with the g3

The G3 has an exploit called bump! which fools the phone into thinking it is receiving genuine LG images(i think that's how it goes), so there is no need to unlock the bootloader. Our custom ROMs come signed already, so just flash like you normally would.
& FWIW the vs985(verizon) comes carrier unlocked out of the box so any sim should work...you just need to manually set up the APN for data.
Thanks for your reply

First you'll root your phone.
Then, you'll install autorec so you can have a custom recovery.
Then you can flash any rom you like that's compatible with your phone model.

It may work but how you're gonna flash it without the bootloader unlocked?
No I fully understand that I need to unlock bootloader, root it and get TWRP on it.
Did anyone try doing this?

What i mean is that there is no TWRP, no official way of bootloader unlocking for IQOO(vivo). They are deem to doom.
Oh that's just bloody nice
