Hi everyone I switched over from textra to Google messages and notice there's a lag in loading messages and opening the app both of which were instantaneous on textra. Is there something I have to configure to make it instant like before? I have all my messages saved from 2015 so there are alot of messages I understand but I would expect it to load instantly after all messages have been uploaded the first time.

Is there a limit to how large a thread with a contact or total SMS limit between all contacts? I currently have almost 4,000 messages in 1 thread and they're all backed up, but I want to make sure I won't randomly start to not receive messages or have SMS force closing on me. Would anyone happen to know?
Don't quote me, but I believe about 4,999 messages (sent or received), as that is what I believe to be roughly the storage size in messaging. I'd double check through menu>settings>applications>manage applications and then check inside the messaging app. I believe the max size is 4,999kb which translates to 4,999 sms if each sms (not mms) is all 120 or 160 characters alloted. Not 100% sure, but I read something along that line.

That many messages is going to slow down your phone like nothing else. You wouldn't believe how much faster your phone will run if you just delete those texts.
You guys were definitely right. My phone was really starting to slow down when there were 3500+~ messages in that contact's thread. On top of the other 750~ or so messages my phone had, it was becoming really slow opening the messenger, receiving, and sending messages. I even had a few FC's. I went ahead and set a 3,000 limit for now and it's back to "normal" operation as far as I'm concerned, but I see what you were talking about with having more than 4,000 or so total messages causing a problem.
Hello everyone,
The built-in Messages app takes time to load large / long text thread (5,000+ or 10,000+ thread messages. But this is not an issue for other SMS Applications like Handcent SMS or GO SMS Pro.
Any ideas?
Thanks and regards,
Nikki
How long did it take you to load your 5,000+ messages thread?
Mine seems to load forever, but GO SMS works fine.
I think it's because the stock sms app loads all the messages in one list (look at the short scroll bar) while those 3rd party apps like GO SMS only load the most recent messages.
Hey guys, so I've been trying to resolve this issue that I've been having with my SGS3 today. Whenever I receive a text message it comes to the device and I can read it fine. The only problem is; is that I don't receive any notifications and they're always set to read, so I can't even see them through my DashClock extension. This is kind of a big deal, because I happen to text a lot with friends, and family, and they get kind of pissed when i reply an hour later once I finally open up the Messaging app and see I got a message.
Thanks!
UPDATE ------ This was being cause by the AT&T Messages app. It was installed on the device but not set up and it was blocking Notifications from other SMS applications (Ex. FB Messenger or Stock Messages)
Is there any like limit for how many messages you can have in one conversation, because when i restore my messages then messaging to and from one version stops working the SMS app became unusable until restart then the messages arrive or are sent. its about 5100 messages in that conversation.
Any ideas? thanks

From personal experience the stock LG messaging app sucks alot, had the same problem restoring or deleting alot of messages at the same time, the app would crash so i switched to a diferent app, been using Textra and never had any problems again.
I've been losing some SMS messages. I reboot, and messages start coming in again, but one I missed seem to be lost forever. It works for a while, then stops again in a day or two. This is using Google messenger on a Moto Z Play Droid on Verizon.
I had serious issues with Google messenger a while back and ended up switching to pulse. G Messenger kept saying message not sent, but people were sometimes getting them, and sometimes not. A quick Google search will show that Google's messenger has issues, and sometimes clearing messages, cache, or uninstallation with reinstallation will remedy the issue.
