Pull down the notification's, then you have on top the wifi, mobile data, location, etc buttons, there ( for me on the second page) is the wifi calling option.
It is carrier dependent.

Hmm as it is said up it might be carrier dependant. Which sucks, it is a neat feature and at home i use it all the time.

I have a Galaxy S20 Ultra, and when I bought it I was on a Verizon MVNO (Pageplus), I had VOLTE but not Wifi Calling (no sign of it)
I then switched to T-Mobile and I then had Wifi Calling available to me in the settings that were not there before.

What you can do is check your carrier and see if they support it. But if you have volte you should have vowifi..

Correct! In order for volte to work BOTH phones must be enabled, and in a volte market.
Ditto. Read some papers on how VoLTE works and called up T-Mo to confirm, they said because of how the connections between the phones are established, both phones must have LTE and live in a VoLTE market. VoLTE actually uses a higher quality coded than HSPA+ if I recall so the other person has to have the ability to receive and decode properly.
Before i did factory reset,i could not get volte, but now i have volte( they show hd in contacts) after factory resetting the phone. Two things i hate about this phone are battery life and chrome browser lagging. And now i just found out a new issue is touch screen sensitivity. It is less responsive than my old galaxy s4.
Has this been recently changed? I had an Xperia z3 and any time i was on lte, my calls were routed volte. I'm 100% positive this is the case, my mother has an M8 without volte, my Xperia still used volte when calling her.

It's not new. Are you sure you had VoLTE? The basic requirement of VoLTE requires both users to have support of this.

Positive, it was only "HD" if i called another volte device, but it was always used on my end. Dead give away was that m phone stayed connected to lte while in a call, if i turned off volte in settings it would drop down to hspa while in call. Also, there are areas around me that seem to only have edge and lte, no hspa. In these areas it would drop to edge when making a call with volte disabled, with volte enabled it stayed on lte.

HD voice is when both devices are connected to at least HSPA when you are connected to TMO's network as far as I'm aware. There are some old articles that you may find if you do a google search, since HD voice is still a rather new concept to TMO.

I know, its a little odd, when volte was not enabled it would display the hd icon whenever i called another hd voice enabled phone. However, when i had volte on, it would only display it when calling another volte device. I know my phone was always using volte though because it would stay connected to lte while in a call with it enabled.
So if you're in a Band 12-only area, and VoLTE is literally the only way for you to make a voice call, you can only call other VoLTE-enabled devices? I find that a bit hard to believe.
So is it possible to enable wifi calling and/or VoLte on stock 8.1 rooted or any firmware of the pixel without being on Verizon? I am on AT&T so just wondering if there is a mod or something I can do to enable it.
Magisk has a module that can do that; VoEnabler .... this module will enable access to the features in the pixel, in Dialer, settings, etc. * but that doesn't mean you can actually use them;
First, check that your carrier/service actually supports the feature .... You can check with a secret code though; in Dialer;
*#*#4636#*#*
Then navigate to "Phone Information"... from there scroll down;
you should see the stuff for VOLTE, Wifi Calling, Video Calling, etc. If it's enabled then you may be good to go..
but if your carrier doesn't support it - enabling it via VoEnabler will do nothing to change that.
Also, I don't know about the US, but in Canada - some carriers (under some plans) do charge extra for this stuff.

Sort of this. Basically AT&T will not support VoLTE or WiFi calling on any unbranded unlocked devices brought onto their network. Never worked on my T-Mobile Note 4 nor my Google purchased Pixel XL. I was a long time subscriber to their service but once my dependency on MMS messaging increased I had no choice but to switch to another carrier. I wound up on Verizon after a brief time with T-Mobile. Both support full functionality of these devices.

Before installing magisk I dialed that number and they were all greyed out, I installed magisk installed the module and now VoLte and Wifi calling are both enabled in that menu and in the settings menu. I tested wifi calling and it worked. So maybe just need the module installed and it will work. That's what worked for me.

Cool. glad to hear my advice helped... but also using the secret code in the Dialer would've verified if your carrier supports it on their network, beforehand; that's why I posted in that step...
also, just as a reminder; I'd make sure that there aren't any hidden fees associated with using those features, I don't know much about US carriers; aside from that they are (generally) against Net Neutrality.... But I know with my particular carrier, in Canada; If i wasn't using the plan that I am on; they would be charging me extra - and it would add up quick... so best to double check, maybe.

I have no idea: I live in Canada and have never dealt with US carriers ~ that's something that you will need to verify on your own. Some may allow it; some may not... you guys do things quite a bit different south of the border, so I just don't know....
You should be able to find that out in the support/QA area of your Carrier's website ~ if not there, you can ask them directly.
but yeah, obviously, if it was working on your S7 - then your network supports it....
Hello, I am on Vodafone UK, recently my area is getting poor 4G coverage so the vodafone tech guy asked me to shift on wifi calling inside the house. He enabled it from carrier perpective but I have to enable it on handset as well. I struggled to find the option. Now using the secret code above I can see I have wifi calling option greyed out. btw, I am on stock android 8.1. What is the best and least intrusive way to get the wifi calling working on my handset.
I am not a developer but have experience with root on previous devices. If I have to install Magisk( is there a non-root option?) what module etc I need to install to get this working please..

Hi,
As anyone noticed that their network changes to H+ from 4G/LTE when in call ?
I'm in Canada with Videotron, and I have 4G/LTE displayed all the time on my data connection, however when in Call it's always showing H+.
All is working for now, but I'm wondering if this could interfere with VoLTE when it finally gets activated on my network.
Thanks.
I noticed this on T-Mobile in the US. I didn't have voLTE enabled at the time because it wasn't enable by default out of the box. With voLTE enabled it stays on LTE
Volte disabled out of the box, enable volte, and it wont switch to hsdpa during calls.

Just wondering, i've seen this being an issue, but just wanted to have confirmation here.
Is Wifi Calling and VoLTE "carrier" issue, or google or how does it really work on a Pixel. I know that on samsung and huawei, it's just in the settings and you can enable or disable them. Apparently on the 3XL it should be in > settings> Network and Internet >Mobile networks. Ideas?

Call your carrier and make sure your account is provisioned for those features.
You may also need a new SIM card to enable them.
It may also be that your carrier doesn't support those features on that phone.

Indeed, but if I'm not wrong Verizon has dedicated ROMs right? I'm curious to know about the international , unlocked version...wonder if I'm the only one on this boat, or if the magisk trick will make it work. I can't see how my carrier can change the settings , that don't even show up in my settings. If they were grayed out ok, but not even showing I assume it's another issue
So, got off the call with the Swisscom hotline... and they said that VoLTE and WifiCalling (advanced settings) are enabled by default, and then depending of the phone manufacturer to see if it's enabled or not in their settings.
Bottom line, it's on Google's shoulders to enable it.... but on google's page it says this : Wifi Calling
BUT When i go into >phone>settings>calls > call forwarding ... i get a message saying "Call setting error Network or SIM card error" ... which by my logic (maybe i'm wrong) that the phone doesn't recognize my SIM card "well enough", thus not having the advanced settings to enable VoLTE or Wifi Calling.
I called my carrier, asked them to reset my SIM card... and same issue.
So it's to my eyes, 100% a google issue.
should be somewhere in factory settings like the op6 we had to go to #*#*4362 or something like that to enable it

Sim cards can go bad, hence your sim card error. Sometimes, you just need to go to your carrier, show them the error, and make them replace the sim.

Has anyone figured out how to get WiFi calling working on Cricket wireless on the One Plus 5T. I have it enable, but doesn't seem to be working. I'm sure there has been a work around for this ?? I'm not rooted. They do support it, but on their own devices not BYOD, but I read there was a work around, so figured I's ask here.
I myself experienced the exact same situation a few years ago the provider I was with had the same policy and after many arguments with there call centre I decided to switch provider to where they didn't restrict the phones functions. Usually in such a situation you need there own bloated firmware to recieve volte/wifi calling. There isn't much of a way out of this in my opinion unless you change provider but I could be wrong. I think they do this so customers buy phones from them exclusively and it's a sly marketing thing. Sorry I couldn't help. It is possible however that by rooting and then installing the module I suggested you could get round this but there's no guarantee. That's if your prepared to root.
Maybe you've tried this already but I found the following.

Activate wifi calling in OnePlus 5T
Wifi have in a valid internet plan because wifi calling is use data for calling.
All steps to Activate wifi calling in oneplus are:-
Connect your OnePlus phone to any WiFi network.
Go to your one plus phone dialer and dial *#800# it automatically opens a new Log-test window and clicks on enter.
Find onplus Logkit and click it. It opens a new page.
Find Function Switch and click on it then new page open.

Sunder, I've done the below before a while back, and it still doesn't work, I have Cricket wireless, so maybe that is why. I have enabled all, but in the status bar the icon for WiFi calling is not showing when WiFi calling is turned on, so I assume it's not connected.

Which network service provider you are currently using means which sim is used in your phone.
Yes, I am very aware of that, and it doesn't work, I've tried it many times, Voltle or WiFi calling icon never comes on in status bar when enabled.

Bro, I think wifi calling is not working in your region Because of the network service provider not staring wifi calling(VoWiFi) technology in your region.
And it may be oneplus 5T is not support your network wifi calling.
In my India, this technique is working and i am using it perfectly with jio and airtel.
That was my point a few post above, where I mentioned it does not work with Cricket wireless, and Cricket does offer VoWiFi, but it woks only with the phones you buy from them. So I was letting people know it doesn't work with Cricket.
