Users wanting GApps permanently with a stock firmware, please follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/guide-d857-to-d858hk-g3-dual-sim-google-t2906602
Hello everyone,
I just installed GApps on my D857 after rooting it and installing a custom recovery.
But now I am constantly getting a Google Play Services error, sometimes .acore as well. Tried to remove the account, clearing the cache, clearing google apps data, but I'm still getting the error messages.
Any ideas?? Does anybody know if I can flash D858HK firmware in my D857 and if it contains the google apps??
BTW, I installed the FULL modular package from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Thanks.
Solved. Install and root with StumpRoot, the install immediately SuperSu, set it up, and install it in /system (under its settings).
Install this recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/lg-g3-f400-recovery-6-0-4-9-t2825865
WARNING: you can use it only once! When rebooting it will ask you to protect and mantain the custom recovery, answer NO, otherwise your original recovery will be deleted and the custom recovery won't be bootable anymore since it's not for the D857! If you want to use it, you have to install it again. Don't keep the recovery, but keep the root!
In the custom recovery install the CM11 GApps:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
All other GApps won't work properly.
Tested with D857 v10b original firmware.
WARNING: DO NOT UPGRADE TO v10c, you will loose root, and so far it's impossible to obtain with any tool out there!
To go back to stock simply use LGMobile Support Tool, starting from firmware v10b it will download and install the kdz for you (v10a was NOT available).
I followed your directions and got it to work so thanks!
However, StumpRoot doesn't work on D857 v10b firmware, so I had to flash back to v10a stock first, then root and was able to get Google Services working.
But now the LG OTA firmware updates are not working because it detects a rooted device. Do you know how to get OTA updates to install? If I flash the v10b ROM to unroot I'm sure OTA update will work but then lose root and lose Google Services. Any ideas?
Dude as I said earlier, I did that procedure on the 10b firmware, so if Stumproot works on mine should work on yours as well!
Please note that before doing all that I updated the phone with the LG tool and did a factory reset.
Cheers.
BTW: does anybody know if the D858HK firmware contains the GApps? Apparently the firmwares are switchable!
[Q] D857 and GApps - Root and Custom Rec - SOLVED
Hi! I order D857 in Australia.
they assured me that he had the 800mhz frequency ... can you confirm? And do you know what's difference between D857 and D858? thank you
Maybe has something to do with the update. I updated from v10a to v10b and the Stumproot failed multiple times. Also found on various Chinese forums that Stumproot doesn't work on v10a. It sounds like you flashed a full TOT or KDZ v10b firmware and the root worked. I couldn't get it to work on the OTA v10b update.
So I guess you don't know if OTA updates work because v10b is the latest firmware?
D858HK does contain GApps (confirmed by Chinese forums) and I would also prefer to use this firmware. There are several Chinese forums where you can find D858HK and I tried several times to flash it using TOT method but it just wouldn't work. If you can find the KDZ of D858HK to flash with LGTools that might be possible but haven't found it yet.

not for now I do not know anything because I still have not received the phone. I ordered it on an Australian site that makes it even come from HongKong. Here is the link : http://cameraparadise.com/LG-G3-Dua...ed-+-1-Year-Door-to-Door-Warranty)-49222.html

D857 has these bands FDD-LTE(B1,B3,B7),TDD-LTE(B38,B39,B40,B41),WCDMA(B1,B2,B5,B8),TD-SCDMA(B34,B39),GSM(B2,B3,B5,B8)
GSM B5 is the 850MHz band
D857 is dual-SIM China International version (FDD-LTE/TD-LTE/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/GSM)
D858 is dual-SIM China Mobile version (TD-LTE/TD-SCDMA/GSM) so it should only work on China Mobile's 4G/3G network
you want the D857. Also note that all these dual-SIM versions have one 2G SIM slot and one 4G/3G/2G SIM slot. You cannot have two 3G/4G running on the phone at the same time.

If you use LG support tools, simply choose fix firmware install or something like that, it will simply download and flash a full kdz of v10b on the phone. Do a factory reset after that.
I don't want to flash a TOT, I'm still looking for a full kdz of the 858HK! I'll let you know if I find it!

My questions is: if you flash v10b, root and install GApps, thereafter will OTA firmware updates work? Because right now, the firmware updates detect a rooted device and fail to update. It seems like that for D857 the only way to update the firmware is to download the KDZ and flash it every time a new one is released.
So getting the D858HK is really key, because if it can be flashed on D857 it already has Google Services, and OTA updates work for future updates...
Sorry but what's the kdz?

You're right: OTA won't work when rooted. It's actually a pain reinstalling the firmware every time, but at least you get a clean install...
That's why I'm looking like crazy for the 858HK kdz, unfortunately I don't speak Chinese and those forums are quite messy!
Do you know if the 858HK firmware is customized in any way by China Mobile??

By the way, the 858 gets way more updates than the 857, another reason to find that bloody kdz!!
v10c is out for 857:

I read in some Chinese forums that the D857 and D858HK firmwares are interchangeable but again I wasn't able to flash the D858HK. I tried with TOT and it just failed. So it is possible that D858HK is different from D857 firmware. I think there may be some modification need to make to the firmware for it to install on D857.
I too am still looking for a D858HK that works on D857...

Just updated with LG Support Tool. Unfortunately Stump doesn't work, IOroot doesn't work, nor does PurpleDrake.
I'm sick of this.
Do not update 'till I find a good working method!
Do you see my link above ? Do you think it's possible for the 800mhz ?
I'm also trying to figure out how to install D858HK stock rom on my D857 32GB.
Found on chinese forums, it seems that it's necessary to change the model number in build.prop to match D858HK model to be able to install it. Have anyone tried that?
Does anyone know where to get the D858HK firmware?
Hello Everyone !
I have a question which really interests me. I have stock rom installed on my LG G3 D855. Oversharpening of the screen annoys me. I have decided to root and install that overshapening fix. By doing this I will change kernel of my LG G3. The question is will I be able to receive any official software update from LG after rooting and changing kernel ?
Thank you for your patience you took to answer me !

no, if you change the kernel you don't be able to receive OTA updates, but you can install it over KDZ Flasher...
Hi, You don't need to receive the updates. The custom ROMs based on the stock firmware are way better and they are updated soon after the new stock firmware is out.
By rooting and installing the oversharpening fix, you must have installed TWRP, which means that you are no longer on stock recovery. Do not take any OTA or you may risk bricking your phone. Manually flashing is really your only option at this point. You can flash official firmware, which is available here, but you cannot update using OTA.

Is there any difference between flashing kdz and receiving OTA update. I mean are they (kdz file and received update ) different or completely same ?

OTA is over the air update, its via 3G or wifi, directly from LG servers, if you change the kernel, the servers or the update center dont know what version you have and dont detect your device or better saying dont know what phone you have!
Flashing in KDZ is completly different, because you need to use a PC to download the firmware, need to use a USB cable to connect your device in PC and use KDZ flash tool to flash the firmware on your LG G3...
anyway, i belive the 2nd option is better because sometimes the newest firmware dont be avaiable in update center when its leaked (of course it depends of your contry and etc) and you can download it on PC and put it on your G3 as soon as possible!
Thank you for detailed information. My question was actually about the files. Kdz file and received update. Are they the same ? Let me explain. Say I have 2 LG G3 D 855 smartphones. I receive OTA update 20I to first one and flash kdz 20I to second one. Will they be the same or different. Apps , tweaks , quick settings .etc ?
Hello. I have d855 android 5.0 . Wanted to install cm 13. and here are my steps:
1. Rooted my 5.0 , flashed TWRP, and flashed CM13 and gapps. There was a problems with dialer after flash, so i downgraded phone into 4.4.2 V10a (using .tot and .dll files) . .
2. Again tried to flash CM13, but process was aborted and phone bricked.
3. Flashed stock 4.4.2 again. Again no luck to write CM .
4. Flashed stock 5.0 v21a using lg flashtool. Again - if i want to flash CM - phone always bricked (error executing updater binary) . And now, even with stock 5.0 my phone data connection do not work (only wifi works)
Please help .... how to reflash my phone and get CM and back data connection??
Just tried flash 4.4.2 again. Flashed successfully, but still any data connection Tried update into 5.0 using phone software updater, but after few updaters it fails (invalid software package).
Today found, that data connection works perfectly if i set GSM/WCDMA . If LTE is selected, there are no data connection at all. Also, can't flash custom rom, phone always stuck at LG logo. Anybody can help so solve my problems?

I want to cite only the first point you described, because it's "abominable"!
Sorry for the harsh tones, but... the dialer issues obviously involved the Cyanogen rom, especially because you're using the first nightlies, often unstable.
Why you accused the official firmware (therefore no more existing since you replaced them) and decided to downgrade?
Then you've to known that important downgrades like Lollilop > KitKat may irreversibly corrupt system partitions like "efs", which make your device losing of IMEI code and mobile data!
Now the only thing you can do is updating your device by settings menu until you reach latest firmware (21A).
Since you've to manually confirm each updates (10A, 10E, 20A etc.), the process will take almost 1-2 hour.
When the update process in definitely completed, you can try to root device, install TWRP and flash latest CM13 nightly.
In case of other issues, try the quite stable CM 12.1, or the stock-based FulmicsRom.
If you continue to have troubles, do a CSE flash of 21A firmware and send your device to warranty.

Last time I connected my phone to LG mobile support, and it automaticallly updated my phone into newest official 21A firmware. IMEI - OK, data connection - still do not work when LTE is selected. So what i need to do now ? Try to root, install TWRP and flash CM 12.1 or FulmicsRom ?

So what's your problem when LTE is enabled?
Mobile data won't work or simply fallback to HDSPA?

Surely downgrading the entire firmware to the first release of KitKat broke the radio part of your device.
Probably if you downgraded to latest KitKat firmware (10h maybe, instead of 10a), LTE should works properly.
Have you encountered that connectivity issue even before flashing CM 13 (on official firmware)?

No, after flashing everything was fine. There is a way to reflash radio part without downgrading again ? Because when i spoted that data connection do not working, i downgraded firstly to 10a (no data connection), then i get 10h update - still no data connection. And after 10h update, my phone got another update, but showed that can't update because package is wrong of something. After that i flashed 21A what i have in my phone now.

Probably the mobile data issue was related to CM 13.
But when you downgraded to 10A, the radio part was really damaged.
As I said if you want to downgrade, always preger the "less old" firmware you need.
Like you, I downgraded in past to KitKat, but I never looked for 10A! I directly flashed 10H.
Sorry, but at this point I don't know what you have to do.
When you flashed 21A firmware, have you done a CSE flash instead of a normal one?
If not, do it.
If yes, you have to appeal to warranty without any problem, since your device has official firmware.

Hi, I have installed Android Marshmallow 6.0 H81520A_00.kdz using LGUP. It worked fine but I noticed it was a Poland beta version, whereas I wanted the Europe one. Plus, KnockCode and Security Patches were missing. I found out recently the Europe 20C version had been uploaded on lgkdz.com, so I tried that. Now, LGUP does recognise my device, but it does not show the processes that allow me to select refurbish or upgrade, for example, as shown in many tutorials on the internet. I've Googled so much but found nothing. What I am trying to do is flash the 20C using LGUP to get me on track.
I hope you can help! I'm really desperate!
Thanks
Solved: I missed out a crucial step
All I needed to do was a factory reset. That's it! LGUP works as it should and I'm on 20c, which has everything included.
Hello, I'm new to this device and I'm just having troubles with it. I bought a branded LG G7 ThinQ and then, back home, I decided to flash stock firmware (no brand apps and so on); no troubles: it works perfectly. The Firmware I flashed was update to May security patch. Later, I found out that a new versione was released and I tried to update via OTA. No updates found. Then, I download LG Bridge on my PC and searched for updates. It found an update and I confirmed the flash, but unfortunately, the update process stops after downloaded the firmware and sideloaded to the device. LG Bridge now gives me an error saying that it can't be updated. What's the problem for you? My system version is V10b-222-01 and the build is OPR1.170623.032. I forgot to say I've already tried to flash the firmware downloaded through LG Bridge with LG UP with no results.

It's completely normal that you can no longer receive updates ota by changing firmware. It's the reason I decided to keep the tim branded firmware on my thinq. As for the lg bridge update, maybe it notices a discrepancy between your build number and/or fingerprint and your system version and so blocks the installation. I'm mostly guessing here, I'm not an expert. You might try going back to your branded firmware and see what happens.
I have the same problem, LG G7 thinq SW Version V10b 222 01. It's the original version, I didn't flash any other firmware.
