We camp often in remote areas in our travel trailer--no wifi or cell signal available. I can save Netflix programs to my 5Z for viewing on my cell phone. Does this phone allow direct cable from the phone to our television? I have had that capability on a Samsung phone in the past. I am hoping a USB-C to HDMI cable will allow us to view saved programs on our television.
Thank you,
Thanks,
Verle
I don't think it will work because 5z is not mhl capable

I have a tab s 805. I want to play videos on my monitor (stand alone monitor - no CPU). Can anyone suggest me ways to do this?
1) Buy a HDMI Cable and a HDMI-Micro USB adapter and use. But I have seen people complaining that a MHL adapter is required and they will support only specific devices. So need more clarity on this.
2) WiFi solutions possible without CPU?
3) Any other solutions please!
If monitor has HDMI (or DVI) then easiest most reliable somultion is a MHL adaptor. Plugs into the usb port and then plug an HDMI to HDMI (or DVI) cable that goes to the monitor.
This is haw I display TV OnDemand programs from my Tablet to my 40" TV.
You can also use Miracast devices, but this means you loose the Wifi connection as it is used for the transmission of the screen image - hence my suggestion of MHL.

Thanks! Ordered a mhl cable.. It'll come in a couple if days! Will check on it and get back!
Sent from my Lenovo K920 using XDA Free mobile app
My preference is chrome cast. No wires, no lag, works perfect. No need to have the tablet screen running at the same time.
But will chromecast work on a monitor alone? Without CPU?
And can it stream only over wireless and not use internet?
Chromecast is very nice, but there are times where an MHL connection works better. Streaming video on hotel WiFi comes to mind. You can get a Chromecast to work using the HooToo Tripmate Nano, but the setup is a pain in the rear.
The minus with using the MHL connection to the tablet is that controlling the tablet from the hotel bed is probably not going to happen. Maybe somebody wrote an app where I can control video playback on my SM-T800 through my cell phone over WiFi or LTE?
Cheers,
¿GJ?

Chromecast can stream from anywhere, local, server, internet. However it does need an active internet connection to work though there are hacks about to get around that for just local streaming.
Chromecast can connect to anything with a hdmi socket.
I can take it anywhere and have movies, music, pics on the go, locally streamed or from the internet without actually having to have my phone or tablet screen running. All controllable from the phone or tablet.
Its quite good at screen mirroring too.
There are cheaper versions such a easicast, but can't give any info on that.
Hello? I'm thinking of buying Sony's mini laser beam projector MP-CL1.
This device have widi and miracast for wireless and a hdmi port for wire connection.
As far as I know, 5x doesn't support miracast and I'm not sure about widi.
So I'm thinking of connecting 5x to the projector by hdmi port.
I do own a hdmi cable and am going buy usb c to hdmi adapter.
In theory, 5x usb c to hdmi adapter to cable to projector would be the way connect.
I just want to know has anyone tried connecting 5x to any hdmi devices like tv or projector?
Under Settings - Display - enabled "Wireless" in Cast - N5X connected to Chromecast's HDMI connection to the HDTV, playing MP4 video now. (EX rom)
I usually travel with the Chromecast and not bother with taking along an HDMI cable and more adapters/converters - and, USB powered - nano router with hotspot functionality for wireless network.
In addition to support for Chromecast, which is a given among Nexus/Android devices including N5 and N5X, N7, etc. - I can also confirm that N5X solidly support Miracast. I have an Android TV Box (has its own HDMI connection) with support for FireReceiver and Miracast -casting wirelessly now directly to HDTV, whatever is on the N5X screen and of course, pictures & videos ... presentations / slides should NOT be a problem. Depending on where OP is buying the Sony projector, I would take the N5X along to test it on the spot before buying/taking it home, unless familiar with it.
I would like to know if galaxy a70 supports connecting hdmi monitor via usb type c to hdmi adapter or with any usb type c dock to external monitor. I want to mirror via type c cable and i am aware that there is no dex support for a70.
Can any one tried this? I don't have usb type c to hdmi adapter or type c dock to try this and wanted to buy if this is supported.
Thank you.

yes, i tried just few minutes ago connecting my device to computer but it's not supporting it's very weird Samsung not makeing stable update now days and i have ghost touch problem
Ok. This is bad. I was expected at least screen mirroring via cable on a70 but didn't happen.
I got dell usb type-c adapter and tried connecting hdmi cable to external monitor.
Nothing shown and nothing was detected except saying some usb device has connected.
For this price, should expect these minimal futures in the phone.
I don't recommend this phone even for camera and samsung one ui. Still sony fan so installed xperia home launcher even though it is not working properly.
Bluetooth is breaking a bit with head phones.
audio for receiving calls is poor.
Overall for this price, it is not a good product.
Hardware of Software
Is this a hardware feature or can be fixed with software update???
Tried it too. Doesn't work
I bought a Type C to HDMI converter. It worked on a samsung a30, note, but not on the A70. I should have gotten the cheaper A50. Might have worked there!
Can anyone update us? Is this a software or hardware issue? Has anyone successfully got it to work?
I think get a chromecast device and use screen mirroring feature in google home app and you will get a more convenient wireless display !!!
I think everybody knows about chrome of course but u end up using urr mobile hotspot data which is never unlimited like the unlimited data u can get reasonable an the point is cellphone distributers should include Mhl because its free to watch anything on your phone an it doesnt use up ure wifi I think carriers are catching on and are fishneting with cellphone distributers n there trying to ban it or make it obselete because they will lose money think about it watching all the movies u want from your phone and mivie channels unlimited with Mhl hdmi.an it sucks itvreally does.cause u either have to spend a fortune getting a device with mhl or the mid range nice cell phones with bigger screens normally dont have mhl
Maybe you have to use the official Samsung one - https://www.mobilefun.co.uk/official-samsung-galaxy-a70-usb-c-to-hdmi-adapter-74551
A70 connectivity problem
That's because its usb C 2.0 only the mobiles with 3.0+ can connect to HDMI
Can you charge through a USB Hub though?
Queried this with Samsung, and this was their response. Sadly it's a no go!
For this price, they should have given usb 3.0 or higher.
Store keeper told that it is possible but later i understand that meant screen mirror.
Can a custom rom add support for this?
Helped a friend buy this. We were watching movies via wireless screen sharing (miracast) and it was OK but kept stuttering and dropping WiFi.
So I suggested getting an hdmi usb-c cable with power charging (4k). I was very surprised when it didn't work! Tried everything including downloading dex to the phone.
Connected the same cable to my s8 plus and it worked beautifully (dex) !
So why not the Samsung a50? Never experienced this on any phone before and have been connecting to TV this way for 10 years.
Need a different /special cable? Or no go on this device and can only do via wireless?
Thx
I haven't ever used HDMI mirroring on a phone but as far as my knowledge of Type-C goes, you need USB 3.1 to support all the alternate modes including HDMI and DisplayPort. The A50 comes with USB 2.0, so there is no possibility of getting Display-Out from the USB port.

thanks for that explanation, I'm guessing this the same reason we can't use type c 3.5mm jacks?
by that respect, pretty much any type c 3.1 can output through hdmi?
Thanks,
Scott
Type-C as a standard is a mess. I don't think you are required to support alternate modes in USB 3.1, so I suppose there are USB 3.1 Type-C devices that still don't output video.
Regarding audio, there is Audio Accessory Mode for Type-C and the concept of active and passive headphones/dongles, so not all dongles will work.
samsung A50 simply doesnt support dex. only s8 s9 s10 and Note 8 9 10.
getting usb c to hdmi wouldnt solve your problem.
there is how ever one possible solution, which is the universal android usb to hdmi cable. it uses ezcast app (same app for wireless). mirroring your phone but wont display netflix etc on your tv.
Samsung A20
So, I know that the A-series doesn't support DeX, but I was hopeful that it might still have the capability to project to a lapdock (like the HP Elite X3 or Nexdock 2) via USB-C and display even crudely (so, not the fully optimized DeX-ified desktop mode, but maybe just a mirror?), ideally allowing for keyboard/touchpad input as well. Basically I'm trying to come up with a solution for my mom whose company is phasing out the laptop she's accustomed to working on in favor of these lousy Samsung A20s, which she's gonna have a lot of trouble seeing and interfacing with on such a tiny screen and without a full keyboard (she's in her 60s). The lapdock thing is the only idea I've been able to come up with (though, it sucks that the A20s don't support DeX), but I'm open to any other suggestions if you think the lapdock route is a dead end. Thanks!

The A50 doesn't support MHL(display out protocol) at all for some reason, which is quite disappointing. At least wireless display casting works well.
Wondering if we have support for:
RJ-45 Ethernet jack
microsd/SD card readers
HDMI-Out
Extra USB-A ports
An example of the device is here: https://www.amazon.ca/VAVA-Adapter-...b&qid=1563056649&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1
They are advertised for macbook but USB-C is obviously universal so it works with computers and stuff, wondering what kind of support we have on G8 if anyone has one to test.
I thought of this use case, use the HDMI to send to a monitor, and 2 of the usb slots for keyboard and mouse.... turn the G8 into a little laptop. I might order one to try it, in theory it could work but I have my doubts.
I didn't try the video out, but mouse and keyboard work fine through mine.

cool thanks, the video isn't even as important because wifi screen sharing is a thing too
Everything is working on my LG G8s ThinQ like before on my LG V40 ThinQ, LG G7 ThinQ.
The only problem is power drop when you connect multiple devices.
I tried an HDMI screen (it shares your Android screen and hopefully, no lags like with WiFi Screen Sharing), Ethernet connection, Microsoft multimedia keyboard (integrated touchpad on the keyboard), Western Digital My Passport and SanDisk DualDrive.
PS: The only thing I still didn't tried is Netflix via HDMI to USB-C. On my Galaxy S8 I couldn't have the images but well the sound but on my V40 it worked so, I'm wondering if LG isn't implementing Something to make it work. I must ask my manager
I found an adapter...
I was searching for an HDMI to USB-C adapter and tried a UGreen 6-in-1 adapter. It works perfectly. You can hook up your phone charger to the adapter to charge your phone while outputting to the TV/Monitor. It also has 2 USB 3.0 ports and SD/MicroSD slots. I got it to use my AKG Lyra microphone on my phone while making video calls for better audio. I've hooked my TV AND microphone to my phone so I can mount my phone on a stand and use the back (much better) camera for my calls. I use the TV to monitor the video. It works great! Search Amazon for " UGREEN USB C Hub 6 in 1 Type C to HDMI 4K " to find (I paid $25US). (New to xda and haven't posted enough to post links)
Hope this helps!

Useful informations! I was thinking about one of those things, just to try out some kind of desktop mode when/IF it will be available on LG G8s, and a simple usb-c to hdmi seems to me too limiting as melvinmajor pointed out before (power drop).
