Noob question: Can Odin change my German branded SM-G988B/DS to Nordic firmware? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello,
I am completely new to changing firmware using Odin, and I want to make sure, that I don't brick my phone
I have bought a S20 Ultra 512GB 5GB DS (Exynos), but it seems to be a German firmware, as it comes with Deutche Telekom apps preinstalled, two of which can't be uninstalled, and Samsung Members speak German instead of Danish.
My biggest issue, though, is that the latest OTA security update is May 1st.
Base band version: G988BXXU2ATE3
SAOMC_SM-G988B_OXM_DTM_QQ_0006
I found this: (can't post links on XDA yet):
samfw -> firmware- > SM-G988B -> NEE -> G988BXXU2ATF5
Which is for the scandinavian countries. (Nordic)
Changelist 18862671
Build date Mon, 08 Jun 2020 06:59:35 +0000
Security Patch Level 2020-06-01
Product code NEE
PDA G988BXXU2ATF5
CSC G988BOXM2ATF5
The questions:
Can I apply that to my phone, or will it brick the phone?
Will it get regular OTA updates for the nordic variant afterwards?
How much user data will be retained after firmware update?
Thank you so much for your assistance to a complete newbie

If you want to change it you will need to use Samkey (paid).

Oh, okay
That's another new thing for me to get into...
I will read up on it and get back with more questions
But can I ask already:
Which of these procedures (samkey and Odin), if any, will break warranty?

It doesn't break warranty :good:

Hi again,
Sorry to be of bother...
I succesfully switched the CSC of the OXM firmware from DTM to NEE.
Now Service Provider Software Version is: SAOMC_SM-G988B_OXM_NEE_QQ0009
NEE/NEE,NEE/EUX/DTM
I know for sure, that the NEE models (though 128GB version) has received the One UI 3/Android 11 update.
But it is not offered as an OTA update to me.
I have rebooted twice, but still no OTA update.
I'm still stuck at an update from September/October.
Is it because mine is a 512GB version of S20 Ultra, while the rest of the NEE versions are 128GB?
Or is it because it still reads DTM at the end of ...NEE/EUX/DTM?

SM-G9600 ARO to TPA CSC

Hey guys , first sorry if this question has been already answered and if it has been, i couldn't find it anywhere on any post.
The thing is, I moved from an S6 to an S9 (the s6 was with a tpa csc, then I flashed an indian firmware because i wanted Nougat) the S9 has an ARO csc stuck on february update and I wanted to know if i can flash a TPA firmware (I've read about the OXM CSC and the ARO and TPA share this "feature" which is kinda new to me) and if the procedure remains the same: Odin, download mode, files, flash or there are new steps to do this .
Thanks in advance,
Gonzalo

Just like Federico says, flash a CHO or TPA csc firmware and forger about ARO this one might never get past feb patch (I did it with a TPA one and now i'm as covered as the SM-G9600 is)

I assume it voids the guaranty right? You keep getting regular OTAs or am I going to need to flash them manually everytime a new firmware comes out?

you assume wrong, as long as the FW is samsung's official it doesn't void knox or the warranty, concerning the updates topic, in my case since the csc didn't change (don't know why) i have to flash each update myself...

how to Update using ODIN

Hello
i don't know if this question was asked before i tried to search but nothing
i came from xperia xz and flashing was just as easy as downloading the FTF and flashing in flash mod
i bought my S9 that was stuck at 1 Dec 2018 software and no new updates are available (even with smart switch) to download so my best solution is to update it manually using ODIN
i used to have a galaxy gear watch and s5 and flashing was also simple but i came across a thread that said something about CSC Version and i am sacred that i may brick the phone while trying to update it
can someone point me in the right directions ?
my CSC : G960FOXM2CRLI
Service provider SW ver.
SAOMC_SM-G960F_OXM_KSA_PP_0002
KSA/EGY, EGY/XSG
baseband version
G960FXXU2CRLI
build number
PPR1.180610.011.G960FXXU2CRLI
and i live in egypt but the phone was sold is KSA if that's matters
any help please ?
thanks in advance

If there are no updated KSA firmwares for your S9, flash any CSC for the G960F, Germany (DBT ) has the latest June update
If you have KSA sim card need to flash KSA firmware with only Home CSC also and if you have EGY sim card and will come OTA downloads
KSA/KSA,KSA/XSG

Well yes you need CSCs to match for OTA, but it is not necessary for normal usage, once my region releases the latest update I will flash back for OTA
so it's normal to flaash any firmware even if the CSC doesn't match? only the phone model number right? flashing on ODIN like thr normal way kust like the s5? nothing else need to be done ? like enabling/disabling stuff on developper options ? OEM unlock? sorry for my noobies questions

Normal if your own region CSC has not updated their firmware yes, but you will not receive OTA updates until the CSCs match and will have to flash manually each update
There is a big thread about it so I'm not going to go into it in detail here, quick search should find what you need
Nothing else needed, boot to download mode and flash with Odin 3.13.1
Thank you

Can I just change the CSC code?

I bought a Verizon S9 through Swappa from "It's all wireless Inc." and expected to update it to Android 10. Well it came in and has CSC G960USQU7CSJ2 from CCT (Comcast) and won't go past Android 9 security patch level October 1, 2019. I'm not very happy and they aren't responding to emails. I've never flashed firmware on a phone but have been reading everything I can find. My question is can I just change the CSC code to VZW (see link below) and it will then pull the firmware/security patches OTA or do I have to flash the full firmware? Thanks in advance for the advice guys..

first things first, please dont post outside links like that one on the bottom of your post.
now thats out of the way, all you need to do is flash the VZW firmware with Odin. I bought 3 Cricket S9's and flashed all of them with the U1 firmware and have also flashed the VZW firmware on them just for s--ts and giggles. Technically speaking, the firmware likely already has all the VZW stuff baked in, it just needs to be told which CSC to use, but since youre behind on FW anyways, just flash the newest G960U FW for VZW, reboot, profit. When flashing, be sure to use the HOME_CSC to not factory reset it and the CSC if you want a clean slate.

Can I get OTA updates if I change the CSC?

I'm currently on an SFR CSC (France SFR) and I want to swap to XEF. Will I be able to get OTA updates right away? OneUI 3.0 for example, it's not yet available for my carrier but it is on unlocked devices.
Thanks.

Hi, I'm also interested in performing this operation, but come on tell me if this invalidates the warranty?
My current firmware is: G988BXXS5BTJ4
I would like to flash this: G988BXXU5CTKG
you can switch csc without problems with samkey. In case of warranty you can switch back. I've done the same for DBT
what do you mean by samkey?
Samkey is the tool to use for changing the CSC.
I did it Friday for the first time on my German (DTM) S20 Ultra and switched CSC to Nordic (NEE).
However, I'm not getting the One UI 3/Android 11 update OTA.
I'm suspecting it is because, OTA only updates the most recent version for that CSC, and the DTM-CSC was 2-3 updates behind.
So Odin is probably necessary in that case to get the latest update.

SM-G781B - CSC: XSA (Generic Australia), OPS (Optus), VAU (Vodafone), or TEL (Telstra)

Hi Everyone,
I'm from Australia and recently bought a SM-G781B off eBay...
Turns out it was a UAE variant and Samsung Pay is all messed up.
I've flashed the phone a few times now using ODIN, trying to get the right CSC correct for Australia (G781BXXU2CUB5) for either of the following CSC's;
XSA (Generic Australia), OPS (Optus), VAU (Vodafone), or TEL (Telstra).
The issue I have is all the Stock Firmware's I've download and flashed keeps registering my CSC as XME (Malaysia)...
Phone INFO app doesn't even detect any other CSC's in the package
I've tried downloading the correct Firmware packs from the following and none gives me the correct CSC for Australia;
https://samfrew.com/
https://www.sammobile.com/
https://samfw.com/
App: Frija Firmware
Does anyone know why this is happening, or can upload/direct me to correct firmware either XSA, OPS (Optus), VAU (Vodafone), or TEL (Telstra)?
I'm totally at a loss now...
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks heaps in advance.
from what I've read recently Samsung has stopped people being able to switch as of android 11.
maybe... I stress MAYBE according to your countryman Hugh Jefferys, if there's a lower version of firmware on the same binary number you might be able to downgrade and then that might mean you can switch CSC.
this is someone who's never even tried changing CSC telling you this so your own research is obviously the only thing to put some faith in.
good luck
XSG (UAE) firmware is part of the OJM multi CSC, whereas XSA/OPS/TEL are part of the OLM multi CSC. This means that it is not possible to simply flash XSA in Odin as the multi CSCs are different, you would first have to use the combination ROM to change from OJM to OLM and then you would be able to flash any OLM CSC firmware, whether that be Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand. I'm an Aussie myself, I got my phone from JB Hi Fi but switched it to Thailand CSC since XSA updates are horrendously slow (Samsung Pay does still work on Thailand CSC as does VoLTE/VoWiFi). For your case though, I'm afraid you are out of luck in terms of changing the multi CSC with the combination ROM, if you are on One UI 3.1 then the bootloader version is U2 whereas the combination ROM bootloader version is U1, so you would not be able to flash it anyway. Also, I tried to flash the combination ROM while my bootloader was still on U1 because I wanted to change from OLM to OXM (Romania CSC) for fastest updates, but Odin was not allowing the flash first because of "please get the approval to flash factory images (pit)" which I fixed, then "please get the approval to flash factory images (abl)" at which point I gave up. So as I said before, sorry but I don't think there's a lot you can do Unless a U2 bootloader version combination ROM is leaked which may or may not happen and you can get around the Odin not allowing you to flash it issues, the phone will unfortunately be stuck on UAE firmware (unless there are other countries part of OJM which you could switch to for faster updates).
Hopefully this helps you.
I have the same model! I changed my CSC but for some reason chat features in messaging app doesn't work now..other than that, all's good..

Your software version is was originally XSA, so you wouldn’t have any issues flashing it with XSA and defaulting to XSA instead of another region. The CSC will automatically default back to XSA.
Mine unfortunately defaults to Malaysia XME when flashed with XSA firmware.

From what I’ve tested, I have no issues with flashing from XSG OJM Multi to XSA OLM Multi. You can do this provided the FIrmware security number is the same as your current revision. You can’t however flash to a lower security value. See image attached.
The current firmware security value at the moment is “2” running One UI 3.1, Android 11. We can’t downgrade to any security firmware version “1” types with Android 10. If we could, then you can use multiple methods to manually change the CSC .i.e through Google Dialer or IMEI trick.
All the Firmwares at the moment are still Muti regional, unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the CSC manually even though they are Multi regional.
All XSA firmwares I’ve downloaded and flashed will keep defaulting to XME as that’s the default unless my original CSC was XSA to begin with for it to detect.
I think the only option at the moment is to use SAMKEY, unless someone comes with with a new Android 11 method...
The other option is to root the phone and ADB to change the CSC, however this would trigger and break KNOX securities.
I did check Samkeys update log and they state it’s supported now, this method wouldn’t trigger KNOX;
VERSION 3.63.9 (PLANET EARTH'S FIRST)
- Added support for G780F (Galaxy S20 FE) ALL BIT
- Added support for G781B (Galaxy S20 FE 5G) ALL BIT
- Fixed FAIL(16) on Slow PC's
- Fixed FAIL(20) on G780F
They’re actually up to VERSION 3.71.9 now.
Might be worth a try.

I can confirm SamKEY works on One UI 3.1, unfortunately it is paid but it does work. You can get an account for cheap from eBay with 1 credit on it which is all you need to do the CSC change. Using it I was able to change from XSA to THL (with no data wipe at all which really surprised me).

Trust me you wouldn't want XSA firmware anyway, the updates are terribly slow for it for the S20 FE 5G (not sure about 4G), it tends to get security patches a month after they should've came out, for example it got the March security patch in April which is pretty awful imo. I think it's the slowest CSC in general for the G781B, if you're on OLM multi CSC you're much better off switching to THL where the updates are a lot faster.

That's interesting, I didn't think it was possible to change between multi CSCs like this without the combination ROM (how you were able to switch from OJM to OLM). If you try to switch to an OXM multi CSC such as DBT or ROM from OLM multi CSC, what happens? Does it work? I'll be honest I never tried it myself but didn't have the motivation to try it anyway as I heard it wouldn't work.

Hi There,
Yes, im sure it works provided the security firmware version is the same as I mentioned above.
I also changed to BTU to test.
I can't test for you any longer as I've returned the device for a refund. Will go buy an AUS XSA Variant.
Attached are the images of my original and changed firmware for your reference.

That's very interesting, when you get the XSA variant can you try and see if you are able to flash a CSC such as ROM or DBT on the phone successfully using Odin? I would love to know if it was possible for this to work or not, I'm on THL myself after changing from XSA and did not think it was possible to switch to a different multi CSC (from OLM to OXM).

Yeah that's true no 8GB variant sold here as far as I know not even on the Samsung website and we don't even get eSIM support either
Is there an update/workaround on this issue?
are there any methods that work without samKey?
Noticed that the dialer app that was once able to record calls, is now recording only me talking, since the latest OTA updates on the stock firmware (updated to oneUI 3.1 and Android 11).
I'm also on XSG (OJM) firmware and want to change CSC to enable call recording on galaxy S20 FE 5G (model G781B).
Would love to know how can it be done.

I'm sure by now you've already sorted this, but this is for future people with a need to change CSC
The SamFW FRP Tool can tell you which CSCs are available on your phone already, and can automatically have the CarrierPreConfig service trigger a CSC update. Only need to enable USB Debugging. No root, no reinstall.
But if your phone doesn't have the CSC you need already, download Frija, or another firmware download tool, you'll be able to download and install an OXM Multi CSC firmware (such as XSA, OPS, TEL or VAU), and install it via ODIN tool.
Be sure to select HOME_CSC to keep your data, and backup first.
