no root ad block? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Is there a way to block ads in games ect without root? I have a S20 ultra not rooted, I've tried a couple of solutions found on google but don't feel comfortable downloading and installing applications without some knowledge about them first.
Thanks in advance for any help

Oh brilliant, thanks very much

So they work, just don't block in-game ads unfortunately. And the game drift park doesn't have an option for paying to remove ads

Adguard dns blocks ingame ads, I know because the gf can't watch adverts to earn credits when it's enabled

Try using NextDNS instead, you make a free account, get a unique dns address to use, then you can add block lists to your account, might have more luck that way

Yes Guys forget privacy, just set another DNS as your main, so all your traffic goes thru them! Who knows what they do with all the collected data and who they sell it to make money off you. Great solution. A+ advice.

The solution is disconnect pro since it isn't a dns, it uses the knox firewall to block ads.

Disconnect pro from galaxy store

I use Disconnect Pro as well.

Just purchased disconnect pro, will see how we go

Ads used 4 GB of my download usage!

Oh wow can we please do something about the advertisements on this site! I understand they're needed for funding but can we please just change the ad format or use a respectable contextual ad system like Google ads.
The stupid banner ads just used 4 GB of my GSM wireless internet connection and therefore cost me $50. I was wondering why my usage had gone insane recently and now I've worked out why.
Banner ads such as the following constantly download at 2 Mbps. Yes I do mean constantly. They don't download a video and loop it, instead they constantly stream the video over and over again using ridiculous amounts of data.
This is just an example, all of these banner ads do the same thing and I'm not particularly happy about it!
Note to self: Use internet mainly in Wifi area only....
Wow, thats a hell a lot of data from Ads. Where do you live? your carrier doesnt offer unlimited internet?
I got an idea say if you donate a certain amount to xda (say $30) then you dont have the ads when you're logged in as you just a suggestion

Australia, nobody offers unlimited data plans here. I'm actually totally okay with there not being unlimited plans because it means speeds are generally faster than if everybody was going nuts. However at the moment I don't have a phone line so I have to use a wireless modem and they're all ludicrously expensive.
Anyway the ads themselves really suck and shouldn't be using anywhere near that much data.

This ad is horrible. It uses so much bandwidth. I was playing an on line game and noticed that I was lagging. I remember reading this thread minutes earlier, and my XDA window was indeed on. The ad is basically draining all my bandwidth.

Yeah there are heaps of ways to block the ad, I've temporarily enabled Adblock. However XDA rely on ads for funding so I'm 100% okay with them being displayed. I'm just requesting that the ad provider change because the current one is terrible.
I don't normally mind ads at all...but I have to agree here...those video ads at the top are dreadfully annoying.
Every time you roll the mouse over them, they open up into a larger window and are very obtrusive...every time I go to reply to a post or click a link at the top, I accidentally roll over the add and it drops down, blocking the text entry area for replying...and it doest always go back up easily.

Hey guys. I am looking into this situation. Very sorry for not replying sooner. I'm 90% sure that ad IS coming through AdSense, and usually problems with AdSense ads get worked out quickly (becuase people all over the Internet complain). I will do my best to block this particular ad.
In the future it helps if you can note the domain the ad points to. Anytime anyone is having a problem with any ads (because of content or bandwidth or whatever), send me a PM with the domain and I will do my best to block it. Ads help support XDA but I really really don't want them annoying anyone!
Thanks.

Thanks very much for your response...it's great to see pro-active admin looking into something like this...I'm sure not every forum admin team would consider blocking certain ads to suit their users...awesome work
P.S. The ad in question does indeed come from AdSense.
please do support xda by clicking on the ads once in a while.
but as a solution, use firefox with adblock plus. for chrome lovers it might be hard to switch to firefox. but let me say this: there aren't a single ad block plugin in chrome or any other explorer that can block ads like adblock can in firefox.

Same problem. It's so freaking annoying when you're trying to read a thread and it blocks the first post X_X
And also, I didn't notice that, but it's concerning as a fellow australian with slow and limited internet (i don't have excess usage charges, but it is throttled after about 40gb).

Thanks for looking into the problem. There's a few ads that do it actually, but they seem to all be the same format, mouse-over for a drop-down video player. The mouse-over thing is always annoying, however it's just the data usage that was particularly frustrating.
Again thanks for looking into it!
Until a solution is found, don't forget about XDA's Official Tapatalk app (although I believe this only applies to Android users; I'm not sure about your phone/phone data plan) - http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/xda-app-for-android-updated-to-v1-2/
Also whoever has the account with the ad revenue service, you might want to log in and see if you can disable flash ads completely (or at least flash video ads). I know when I used Google for ads years ago, they had a crazy number of ways to limit what kind of ads were served (including topic, format, etc). Of course flash ads weren't very big back then so it may be different now. Good luck to all!
P.S. - I am on a limited budget (going back to college in 10 days to work on my PhD) but can spare 15€/20$ USD. I want to donate to XDA but also to unrevoked, as both have allowed me to explore my phone in a way a could have never done before. So either...
All goes to XDA!
All goes to unrevoked!
A 50/50 split?
I know it's off-topic but I didn't feel my indecisiveness deserved it's own thread =p. Also is XDA running a little slow for anyone else today or it just my ISP (Verizon FiOS) having issues?

I'll take it a few steps further. Use Firefox, install Adblock Plus, but donate to the forum - to make up for the clicks they lose via the ads. Ads suck, but the forum needs money to survive. I don't do ads either, but I do donate occasionally - as a matter of fact, I think it's time I did so again

Good advice. One simple check is to enter false details the first time you use it. If it's a phishing app the chances are it will just accept them. Not foolproof but better than nothing

Personally, I would just use google to find a US proxy server. Google Play will think you are in the US if you use a proxy server.
Just set up the proxy in your wifi and you can download directly from play to your phone the way you normally do with apps. It will just pass through the proxy server untouched to your phone.
And you can thank me if you want!!

i agree.. use " Use market unlocker " from google play and choose a USA region and it should work. I do use market unlocker all the time when certain apps are blocked.
The market unlocker app probably does just the same thing. It uses a proxy to connect to the market.

Yeah, a thinking thief will pass the credentials on as usual, but just log them...
So this wouldn't really help against any sensible attack imo

Are you blocking updates thru the router or opendns method ? Had you blocked updates thri the router &/or opendns for other FTV(S)'s before and left things in place ? Are you running a VPN on it? What app market location are you in or are trying to access?

If you had worked on FTV's before. You could had left update blocking up on your router. So had to ask to clarify.
http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-fire-tv-stick-and-amazon-appstore-launch-in-india/
The app selection on the Fire TV Stick in India is much more limited than in any other country because paid apps and apps with in-app purchasing are not yet supported in the Indian Amazon appstore. Although my Downloader app is 100% free, it does have in-app purchasing enabled to accept donations, so my Downloader app is not yet allowed in India. I’ll try to find out when apps with in-app purchasing will be allowed on Indian Fire TVs. If it seems like something that won’t be available for a while, I’ll release a version of my Downloader app in India with the donation buttons removed.

Change to English(UK) & see if that helps. Not sure if you will have to add a UK address in you account for it to work right. Also read the comments to see what others are experiencing. Seems the India FTV App Store is bare bones at the moment.

I've tried emulating android tv on avd but that too sucks as play store is not proper over there. It's stuck at sign in.
App I need: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.balaji.alt
This is for my mom.

I believe this is what your looking for:
https://m.apkpure.com/altbalaji/com.balaji.alt
Should be the latest version. Just sideload it & install it. It's probably not the AndroidTV version. Will see if that one is out there later.

Nah that too is the phone version.
Do y'all have any Telegram or whatsapp group for the ftv tho?
If not we should have a telegram group at least. Also thanks a lot for helping me. You look like a future RC to me
One last question: (noobish) How do i make normal casting work/screen mirroring on ftvs work in background all the time
Idk but after 2 days the app store automatically started working lmao. Maybe they blocked it for the first day
