Odin stuck in "SetupConnection...", impossible flash problem in Galaxy S9+ G9650
I've been trying to install TWRP on my Galaxy S9 + G9650 for several days, but I can't, I even tried to install the original ROM, to see if the problem was TWRP, but without success yet ... I need help with Odin, now I used all versions of it, new and old, I already changed the cable several times, I used the original and other different cables, and even the Micro-USB to Type-C converter and still without success. What should I do now? I really need to ROOT, whether with TWRP or not. I tried to modify the original ROM using the Magisk flash method directly on the ROM, then I tried to install via Odin and still giving the error. I put the images attached to the post.

I've tried another USB port and even another PC, but it still doesn't flash, and the drivers are ok, I have reinstalled them too. And on my Galaxy S3 I managed to flash the Stock ROM and the TWRP on it too, only the Galaxy S9 + that doesn't.
strange problem, is twrp good?

I really don't know what to do anymore, maybe someone else will help you with an idea

Yes, i used the correct TWRP for my phone model.
Strange as it may seem, I got it on an old PC, but on two PCs here in my house, an Intel LGA 1155 and another AMD AM4 couldn't, they crashed at SetupConnection, but when I went to my cousin's house and tried on the old PC his, an Intel LGA 775, DDR2 motherboard, Windows 10 64 bits and everything went well, installed normally without any error. I believe that Odin has to have this bug fixed, on the other PCs here at home, even on the USB 2.0 port it didn't work, but as strange as it was, on a PC 10 (or more) years ago it did... Now my device is finally rooted with Magisk and TWRP.
S9+ ODIN stuck at "ConnectionSetup" ?
Has anyone figured out what the issue is yet?
I'm using a 2020 ASUS Vivobook with Windows 10 (64-bit).
I'm trying to flash the G965U1 Unlocked/Unknown Firmware.
I have successfully flashed the same to another S9+ I had, and know the process fairly well.
USB Debug is ON
Used several different Cables.
Rebooted PC
Factory Reset the device.
Reinstalled the Drivers
Reinstalled the Patched ODIN
Tried a different Version of Firmware.
Any thoughts, advice, or revelations?

Same model, same exact problem. I tried a different PC, but stuck on SetupConnection.
Do you remember which Odin version and drivers you used where you were successful?
Yes which drivers did you use that work? Android file host? Also latest odin? I get my sm-g965u tomorrow need to be prepared.

I was preparing to flash the stock EC05 rom with odin and did a full wipe of everything. But it seems I can't get odin to recognize the phone is plugged in (I can get to download mode, but it never shows up in Odin).
Not I'm stuck in recovery with no backup, and can't do anything.
I also can't get windows7 or adb to recognize the device.
I have the drivers I used when rooting the phone, and they don't seem to work.
Windows says "usb device not reconized... the device has malfunctioned" etc.
I have tried many cables and many computers, and nothing seems to work.
My last resort is to buy yet another cable, one recommended in another thread, but I have already bought a few cables designed for this phone, blackberry, and one just for data.
Is there anything I could flash from recovery to at least allow me to boot?

Have you tried downloading the drivers fresh from Samsung? How about different USB ports? Sounds like bad drivers though. The first time I used Odin, Windows used the drivers I installed plus got some others from Windows update. Took about 10 minutes for it to find my phone.
Which version of Clockwork are you on? If not stock you can go here and flash the EC05 stock ROMS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904
Classic sign of bad drivers or a bad cable. Don't waste your time on the stock cable - get another, and plug it into a different port. Reinstall the drivers if you need to.
After trying to loading a nightly Dirty unicorm ROM I lost my Cellular radio.
I reflashed to CM 11, and then lost my touch keyboard (noted by AOSP failure)
Frustraded I tried to restore from my backups in Twrp 2.7, but the backups were not recognized.
Panic set in... hours of internet trolling...
I've tried multiple computers, different USB cables.
The phone boots to the Galaxy screen then goes black.
I have gone to samsung-updates to find a matching image for Sprint SPH-L900, but it is not there. I have grabbed the 7100 international, but cannot get the USB to be recognized.
At this point the phone will only boot in to ODIN mode, (downloading...)
The usb connection registers with a beep when connecting to the PC, but I cannot tell what's up beyond that...
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Try flashing this thru Odin on your pc. If it takes it then try to flash another ROM. Wiping cache/dalvik...you might need to do a factory reset. All data on phones internal sd will be lost. So try wiping caches only first and see if that gets you going.
This is Philz touch recovery.

Your loss of cellular radio probably stemmed from TWRP. There's a reason no ROM dev recommends using TWRP on the L900 with 4.4 builds. I'm honestly surprised with TWRP2.7 you were able to flash considering the issues testers were having with it.
That being said, do you have the USB drivers installed on your host machine? If not, then that is your problem.

Please take a look at the Software Information screen shot of my phone. I tried many methods of upgrading to MM or LP by flashing roms but almost all failed. I tried installing TWRP but on boot phone said "Fastboot mode started" on black dos-like screen. But phone was not bricked and I was able to start normally again into Android 4.4.2 by ejecting and reinserting battery. I am not even sure to which country this phone belongs, since its D855 I think its European, so I tried install those stock roms but failed, in a different way for each method.
When I try to update from LG PC Suite, it says that theres an update available for my phone but while trying to install it the software gives error saying phone cable disconnected.
Please help me guys.
try TOT method.
I did try that, didn't work. At the stage where you are supposed to eject USB cable and put it back in for the flashing to start, when I reinsert the cable nothing happens, a fail message shows up.
Try different USB cables, ports, maybe even PC, have you manually installed all PC drivers? What about resetting the phone? Is the phone rooted?
I have tried two different computers, and two different USB cables, however non of the cable were original from LG, one was from Nokia and other from Asus. Drivers are working fine as far as I know since I can see LG Mobile modem option in Device Manager. I think while trying to install TWRP I deleted the recovery so when I try to reset phone, after restarting it goes to a dos-like mode that says "Fastboot mode started". Yes, phone is rooted.
Hello
Are you sure do you have properly installed root? try this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3129197
Then install the TWRP official app and install recovery from the twrp app.
I had successfully rooted the device, a root checker app from store confirmed that device is rooted.
Friends, now my device is completely bricked. I had given it to a friend after I had corrupted its recovery, he tried different stuff and said that partitions are corrupt. Now he said the device is fully bricked, not even turning on. Any chances of making it functional again?
Hi all, learning fast, not there yet, so forgive me if I ask something less than brilliant here
I can't connect my Tab S 8.4 wifi to any pc anymore (tried 4 different PCs and 4 different cables) after upgrading bootloader with Odin last year.
I keep getting "device descriptor failed" in Device Manager (both win7 and win10).
My son did drop and break the usb/power port which I replaced myself. Could be a hardware error, but everything worked before and after my repair, just not after bootloader upgrade. Forgive me, I don't know which bootloader is currently installed, in any case one which works with android 5.1 and not with 7.1, which I unsuccessfully tried to flash.
COderbear was so kind as to direct me towards the bootloader, which I thought TWRP was.
Since I cannot connect to a PC, I cannot update the bootloader....catch 22...
Thx for ur input.
Ps Hardware failure is a possibility, but not conclusive guys. Tablet is working fine.

I used ODIN to update bootloader 1-2 years ago to flash an original Samsung ROM which was already rooted. After the bootloader flash I cannot connect to a PC anymore.
I n the mean time I have learned about TWRP and used it to flash a custom ROM, all via SD card, as I cannot connect to a PC.
The only one which did not get me stuck at the black Galaxy TAB S screen is the cm12.1 custom ROM with android 5.1.
All others (see above) with android 7.1 have gotten stuck.
I thought TWRP was the bootloader, but it isn't, kindly pointed out by COderbear in another thread. :good:
As I understand it, the only way to update the bootloader to a current version to successfully upgrade to a custom 7.1 ROM.
Since I cannot connect to any PC => "device descriptor failed", I cannot update the bootloader with ODIN.
So I cannot upgrade to an android version above 5.1. That's the problem.

Yeah, but ur not me
I have a sneaky suspicion that it's the usb port which I've swapped.
I've found two threads somewhere on Google relating to using another cable, must be a hardware failure or substandard part.
Can't explain it otherwise.
There is no way to update a bootloader via SD, right?
Logical, the bootloader's the first thing it reads to start up.....
Anyway, thought it was worth a try to post a thread, u never know what crazy solutions come to pass in android world.... (iOS too for that matter)

Bootloader can only be updated with oden only any thing else won't work.......
It is not issue of fleshed software. I have this issue during last 2 months. Official service center didn't find any clue during 2 weeks so i get back my Tab. All story starts, i suspect, after 1 month using magnet cable. Then suddenly charging current start to be lower then usual (Galaxy Charging Current App) and i decide to check different chargers and PC. I found that tablet cannot connect to any PC - "device descriptor failed". During playing with "USB debug" on/off and USB modes i connected tablet to PC once. But during Odin flash it stuck in "Getting PIT file..." and i still didn't update anything.
I suspect that it is some hardware issue in part that responsible for USB communication.
Issue solved. Tried on different ports with combination USB-hub. On some ports it completely invisible, on some "usb device not recognized". But after two weeks once i get connected and Tab was detected - then immediately flash stock CQB1 with TWRP 3.1.0. Now it still detected by PC.
I suspect micro-crack in motherboard or some HW issue on some SW combination (modem SW).
Hi! I hope some one knows how to restore apk on a Galaxy S9 plus
I was trying to get rid of Bixby and erase some apks using adb app control, I have a backup of the apks in the computer, the problem right now it's that the phone has many photos and most of them are important , I would like to know if there is a way to avoid wipe data/ factory reset, via adb or Odin.
I'm stuck on loop after the operator logo.
It doesn't boot in safe mode.
I already have android 10 ROM but I'm afraid that if I flash it with Odin , it will wipe the user data, if there is way to Just update, or restore this files please let me know.
Thank you very much for you help.

Hi! I have tried several times, and I get failure to start, the phone is detected but the flash doesn't initiate, sometimes I get this screen, sometimes it says fail .
I have installed Samsung USB drivers, from the

You need the driver only if you are developing on Windows and want to connect a Samsung Android device to your development environment over USB.

did you try booting into the download mode twice?
Once and then again and then start the odin.
I had to do that.
I had to flash the official firmware myself because my phone keeps crashing on the homescreen.
Didnt solve it but I did flash it properly.

go to the recovery.
connect to the PC.
open odin.
click on "reboot to bootloader"
It should go to to download mode.
what does your download mode screen say?
When I was doing this process I tried reflashing the latest rom but that didn't solve my boot loop issue.
So I flashed an older version of the rom.
Make sure the version you download is compatible with your phone.
You have G9650ZHU9FUG2 so only roms with 9 will work.
I flashed that old version and it didn't work, phone still stuck.
Then I flashed the latest one again and then my phone worked.
I used odin from the link you posted.
Odin3 v3.13.1
actually what i would suggest is downloading/re-downloading samsung usb drivers. otherwise most phones won't respond to odin even in download mode without it

Hi! Today I have successfully flashed the exact firmware that the phone had ( there is no newer) using a different laptop (it's true if the problem persist with Odin, use another laptop)
I got success message, at the very first time, and when the phone reboot, nothing , stuck as it was before, so I erased cache partition and no luck, still stuck on reboot, I have also tried repair apps , and reboot sistem now, what else should I do?
Thank you very much!
Hi! I want the community to know that using the APK adb app for Samsung it's a bad idea, after successfuly flashing the firmware and performing a factory reset several times the phone remain stucked, I downloaded about 10 different firmwares and flash them all times without an error, and the phone was bricked and stuck in boot. So I took it to the official service and nothing, still the same, then I found an external service that flash the device with a little box that they said they paid in advance for credits for using that box, it took them one full week to revive the phone, also they had to flash it several times. In conclusion, if you buy Samsung, stick with the garbage apps the throw, if you mess with the system in some way as the official technician said, the phone will be nearly unrecoverable for privacy benefits for the user. Thank you very much for the help to the community!
