UK model, all up to date. Owned the phone for a month or so, super happy with it. One big problem - the Chrome browser freezes in use two or three times a day. This is a proper freeze, not just a delay loading - the whole phone display is unresponsive. Nav buttons don't work, can't do anything at all for up to 10 seconds. (Apart from the power button to close the display, but the freeze remains)
Have tried clearing Chrome cache and also the phone cache with no improvement. Suggestions appreciated.
Another browser :good:
Hah! I was hoping to avoid that, but it probably makes sense.
Lol yeah, my 'recommendation' was really because I very rarely use Chrome, on rooted devices in the past I've always deleted it. My preferred browser is Yandex, sometimes using the stock Huawei browser for a change.

Yellow,
I have a bit of a weird problem. Tried a lot of Google but didn't even really find the same problem..
What happens effects various apps differently, most notably (and annoyin) when browsing.
Uc browser crashes to homescreen, but all tabs are still there when I open it (although entered data is lost because the tabs are loaded from scratch. Total pain, saved this text 10 times so far and it crashed twice already.)
Dolphin closes all tabs but stays open, basically as if it was reopened except with no time delay, all tabs just vanish and thats it. chrome refreshes all tabs but they stay open.
Whatsapp stays open but the keyboard goes away mid writing. Tatanium backup reloads the apps and brings me back to the top. Sygic navigation crashes. All with no error messages. Just to give a few examples.
While not tested I'm sure calling crashes too, so this phone is almost unusable.
I already did a factory reset with twrp and restored a backup from a few month ago that worked perfectly fine, but the issue came back before installing any apps (!).
Rooted 4.1.1 with "blade elite v.1.1".
To me it feels like its just too much happening for the phone so it does weird app refreshes or whatever.
Any help greatly appreciated.... I'm in Malaysia right now with very limited access to computers, so if there's anything I could try on the phone itself...
Thanks a lot in advance!
I've had my G3 for 2 days now. It is not yet rooted or tweaked aside from available options within the stock ROM. Everything seems to be working perfectly except Facebook. It works about half the time. but the other half it will open, freeze for a second, then just close. I've attempted to reboot the phone as well as even uninstalling/reinstalling the app to see if it solves it but it continues to happen.
My guess is that the app is having an issue with the extremely high display resolution. But if that were true I'd imagine other apps would be experiencing similar problems.
Any ideas?
that's odd, facebook has been stable for me
Now I can't even get facebook to open. it just freezes and hangs there. Hitting the home button a few times finally gets it back tot he homescreen to kill the app but it happens again every time.
what version are you using? mine is 14.0.0.0.11
14.0.0.0.11
What's funny is I just switched from DALVIK to ART. Not only is my phone SIGNIFICANTLY snappier now, but Facebook is now working flawlessly.
...of topic
For those looking to eliminate all lag:
1) Go to Settings / Developer Options / Select Runtime then select "Use ART" and approve the change. The phone will reboot and optimize your apps (which takes a few minutes) but it's well worth it.
2) Go to Settings / Developer Options and change "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale" and "Animator duration scale" all down from 1x to .5x
After doing both of these my G3 now feels as snappy as my completely optimized Nexus 5 was.

If you BETA TESTER of facebook android app it can possible. I'm on beta stage of app that i receiving continuously updates for app. For now if i touch or tap to see comments app shutdowns. It's only allowing me likes. In prev. beta versions it wasn't allowed to browse albums of pages or friends. This is common problem on beta app. Otherwise the only way is seems to mail dev. team.
Thanks for the response. Since posting this thread I've actually gone back to my Nexus 5 and sold the G3. I was running into the same force close issue with facebook on the Nexus 5. I opted out of beta and now just use the stable version of the app and have no issues.
And for anyone wondering why I switched back. I realized after about 2 months of use that I just wasn't going to get used to the 5.5" screen. It's simply too big for me. That and lack of development support really had me missing my Nexus 5.
Hey guys, i love my pixel 3 XL its been great but it has been randomly freezing and locking up, somtimes requiring a restart.
Other time i get the system UI crashed message and then i close it and it works again. Sometimes Chrome or the camera app locks up and crashes too.
Anybody experiencing this? Any ideas on a fix, maybe the next December OTA will fix it hopefully.
Thanks

I'm getting pretty fed up of factory resetting my phone, the phone started saying it's corrupt so I ended up reflashing it and that issue is now gone, but this freezing issue happens every now and then. You really think a factory reset is worth trying? Or could have something of gone wrong with the reflash?

I absolutely would try a factory reset if things are acting strange for no apparent reason.

If you flashed the factory image it's either a hardware or app issue. Have you tried using the phone for awhile with a minimum of apps? I'd give that a try I don't think a factory reset will do anything if you've already flashed the factory image.

try the flash-all.bat then when its complete go to stock recovery and format /data
are you using substratum?
Pixel 3 XL crashing
I have had the same problem. My system UI crashes since new, along with other apps and the phone becomes non-responsive. I thought it was just a new phone glitch that would be fixed with an update, no such luck... I need to do a hard reboot by holding the power button until it reboots. I bought a Pixel 2 XL in August and never had any problems like this. I finally contacted Google about the problems and they RMA'd it. I never root my phones before making sure they work correctly, so this one is and has been stock, unrooted.
My wife and I have the 64GB models in Black (mine), White (hers). She's on her 3rd replacement phone for what seems to be a similar issue.
Symptoms:
When using the fingerprint reader to unlock the phone, it may not unlock for 10+ tries.
The phone's battery drains quickly, within a couple hours of barely any use, her phone might be down to 60-70%
System_UI crashes
Some apps don't seem to load quickly (Like going into messages, you see the app container, and a new chat button, but no messages load for a minute). Or she's had a straight up black screen, and the app wouldn't load.
Takes minutes to call or hang up a call and often takes rebooting to close out the phone app.
It almost seems like something is running in the background that is utilizing the CPU and causing the lag/app/battery issues.
Troubleshooting:
Factory Reset
Wiping Dalvik Cache
Replacing the phone twice through Verizon. The first replacement had the same issues immediately. The 2nd phone showed the same issues immediately, and then went away for 3 weeks since the Dec. 5th Security update, but in the past few days has returned.
Booted in Safe Mode (everything seems to be working fine however extremely limited).
We've also checked the processes and no apps seem to be running that would make any sort of impact.

Since the December update, the freezing issues I was having have been significantly reduced, but it still freezes sometimes... I am hoping the January update coming in the next week will smooth out any remaining bugs.
Any of you using a different launcher?
I had this freezing and non-responsive issue. The google rep, replaced it, he determined it is some kind of hardware issue. My replacement didn't have this issue at all (November update). However, the lag/stuttering still persists though. I had replaced quiet a few pixel 3 XL, and i am just getting tired of it. For a $1K phone, we shouldn't get mediocre quality of phone.
So my wife had been removing applications in small groups to try to narrow it down. It seemed for a week or so that she was in the clear and everything was working. Then all of a sudden she got the January update and her phone is still having issues.
Slow responding finger print reader.
System UI crashes
Unable to answer phone calls despite numerous attempts.
It still seems like there is something that is running in the background that is just using the processing power.

Get gsam from the app store, if you don't have it. After awhile see what apps are using battery, app sucker in the app. Gsam is a battery monitor.

Sadly, gsam and accubattery don't show anything out of the norm app wise.
Anyone also experiencing same issues? After the PIE update months ago, everything began going downwards. Scrolling sometimes getting laggy or sticky (like pulling a gum from the ground), stuttering on some apps like chrome etc. Should i go back to Oreo? For me personally seems like this whole PIE thing was just a half-assed rebranded thing for OP5/5T originally meant to be devices like OP6/6T they just released half-assed update to satisfy people asking for pie update.

You're not alone.
I noticed this straight away when I "upgraded" to pie. Very noticeable when scrolling. If you leave the phone idle for a couple seconds (around more than 20-30 seconds), then scroll again, there's a very noticeable lag.
Another user on reddit managed to capture the issue
Unfortunately there's no fix. I wiped the cache and then factory reset. Still had the issue.
I ended up just going back to Oreo, which I recommend you do if you want smooth performance again.

Same problem here, no one want to help us. Like problem did not exist
I started having this problem since going to Pie, but the phone only stutters randomly about once or twice a day for me. A temporary solution for my phone is that whenever it lags, I press the power button to lock the phone. After unlocking, the stutters go away. Let me know if it works for you.
Go to beta one
I've been having an issue pretty much since I first started using my phone, whenever I open an app that is already in the memory it takes it quite a while to refresh its data and it kind of just hangs there until it refreshes.
So for example I have a stock trading app which whenever I open it up none of the data/prices update for a few seconds.
My Reddit app Reddit Is Fun does a similar thing when press on a post it takes ages for the comments to load up.
I have the adguard DNS in the background that I've tried turning off thinking that might be the cause but it makes no difference.
I've tried changing the performance settings from optimised to high performance etc nothing changed
The only other thing I can think of is maybe because I used smart switch to copy over my previous phone s8+ to this one it may have created this strange issue.
Is anyone else noticing anything similar to my issue?
TIA
No, I have not experienced anything of the sort, apps open at 1 to 2 seconds max, bit I have read some posts that describe some troubles when restoring data from another device, I have never done it, I prefer fresh starts

I agree with you that Smart Switch could be the culprit .....reason is , that on my
Note 9 ,i had this very similar issues , with apps taking ages to refresh etc ..
I also used Smart switch ,to copy my backup from my Note 8 to Note 9 .
I eventually did a factory reset and issue was solved .!!
Since then i do not use Smart Switch anymore .!
If i now transfer my apps ,data etc , re Samsung Cloud and Google combined .
Samsung cloud for my Samsung apps and settings
and Google for my Play store apps, emails ,contacts etc ...
So it's possible that apps ,data from Smart Switch was corrupted either , with the initial backup or re install .
So you have to decided ,if it's worth doing a factory reset ?
Keep in mind there could be another reason/culprit .... also .!
In my case Swatch Switch was the culprit..!
Further ,i have High Performance ,enabled on my Note 10 + ,
and similar to @ winol
I have no issues with apps opening .!!
I have in past , tested "recent apps " feature over and over.
Apps open 9 out of 10 times instantly ...no lag or refreshing etc ..!
Good luck .
Note....
i also , have Adguard install and yes ,it could be AdGuard ,
but for example ...... i had issues with Firefox, not
connecting to a link ...trying to connect etc etc ...
I turned Adguard setting , " off" for Firefox .
( Adguard /Apps Management/ FireFox )
Issue was solved re Firefox .
Thanks for the replies.
Apps open instantly but take a second or two to refresh.
Seems like the only culprit could be having used smart switch to port over from my s8+
Annoying thing is now doing a factory reset and setting up my phone from scratch feels like a complete nightmare lol
