According to Sprint unlock policy, it says "For domestic SIM unlockable devices launched after February 2015, Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible." Does anyone know if Sprint Galaxy S6 phones are domestic SIM unlockable?
Thanks,
RJ
I'd like to know as well... and maybe a more pertinent question, does it even have a sim slot on sprint?
Yes. Just got mine today. And does have sim card.
can it be used with a AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card?
Did you try to use a SIM card from a different carrier to see if it worked or not?
I have not as I do not have any others to try.
If we pay full price for it will the phone be unlocked? I have simple mobile so I need an unlocked version and I couldn't figur out how to get it from t mobile that way. Also Verizon is unlocked but seems like Verizon messed with the software ruining some things so I'd rather avoid them.

Typically the best way to get an "Unlocked" version is straight through the manufacturer or looking for a g920F on amazon. The phones sold by carriers are specifically designed for their networks, so compatibility may not be what you need. Usually the Factory Unlocked variants (Model Fs) have more radios in them and are compatible with more networks.

This app first of all only unlocks it for overseas so if you're trying to unlock it domestically you're beat. I already got the apps online and unlocked it for overseas and its pretty useless domestically. Sprint will unlock it but make sure they do it right. It isn't the msl that does nothing to unlock your phone. TRust me I worked for them before
Another Success
I put in an order with idone, and he successfully domestic unlocked my phone. It Works
I got data and text working on a sm-g920r7 which is very close to the Sprint model but calls still don't work, any advice?

Yep, they have to unlock your device once your contract is up.
Sprint phones are SIM unlock able, I got mine unlocked from sprint as the contract was up and I moved to another provider.
Also, for those who have their SIM's unlocked, you will need the MSL to actually get non-sprint LTE working on your phone. You can get that from sprint or you need to root your phone to get the MSL (search threads here on XDA, I cannot post links yet).
Once you have MSL, you need to go into sprint data programming to enable to the LTE bands for the phone to get non-sprint LTE, i had to search a lot before I could get it working:
key in ##DATA# on your dialpad
click on EDIT, type in your MSL
Go to LTE, band priority, make 2, 5, 15 as your first three bands, the rest can be anything
disable the sprint bands band 25, band 26, band 41 by clicking on each of those options under LTE and uncheck the enable box
Now go back
Choose eHRPD and and disable it, phone should automatically reboot and you have AT&T LTE bands available to you
Link for the above video can be found on youtube by searching for Spring galaxy S7 enable lte bands (can't post link as I don't have rights yet)
Hi
I have a carrier unlocked T-Mobile s8+ and need to use a Verizon SIM in it and am getting errors trying to use a verizon SIM. The Verizon SIM is from another phone and is already registered. I put the IMEI number of the phone into Verizons web portal to test compatibility and it failed. Does that mean there is no way to get this combination to work? Does the IMEI need to be in the VZW database for this to work? Will flashing XAA guarantee this to work? Thanks for any help and advice.

do u have a tmobile phone, it is different than the carrier unlocked phone, those are 2 different models,
the carrier unlocked.. the sim is unlocked..
the tmobile is not carrier unlocked, and by flashing the firmware of the unlocked version, will NOT unlock the sim.. u will need to device unlock app with the tmobile phone 1st... and usually tmobile will NOT unlock unless u have paid it off and using on their system for 40 days..
others like me had it unlocked with days of service, cause we are tmobile customers for years already... I on the other hand bought the phone on ebay from someone who bought it from Samsung and the imei was not added to tmobile system and I had to call tmobile to add the imei which took about 3 days, then to call back to request the sim unlock which took another 3 days, the device unlock app unlocked the phone instantly...
that was my process for me to get the sim unlock... but if urs it not unlocked and is paid off, another way to get it unlocked it to give it to someone u know, let them use it and call tmobile to start the above process...
Hope that sums up what must be done...

Hi thanks for the explanation, I am pretty familiar with the differences between carrier (SIM) unlock and unlocked firmware as I have flashed Android in the past. I had the phone carrier (SIM) unlocked by T-Mobile through their app and I was still not able to use the Verizon SIM in my phone (not registered error). It turns out (and I found this out by reading through the many messages in this forum) that T-Mobile firmware apparently disables some frequencies that other carriers may use. Once I flashed the XAA unlocked *firmware*, I popped in my Verizon SIM and it worked like a charm. I hope this info is useful to someone at some time and I thank all of you for your contributions to getting this working. KUDOS!

Good to know, but sound weird, thought T-Mobile phones work for all gsm Sims just needing to change apn,
But now cdma merging with gsm, that's so much better as far as phones go, use any phone now from any provider.
Look how the s8 plus is all the same software and the same hardware, just different carrier stuff..

I thought it was weird too. Busted my head for a couple of days trying to figure it out. Is Verizon still CDMA? *scratches head*
Yes, their 3g and 2g networks are CDMA.
If you insert Verizon sim into T-mobile phone, you'll get LTE data, but you won't be able to make calls. Only data will work. T-mobile firmware support band 2, 4 and 13, so you should have data, but not phone service. If you don't have data icon, you'll need add Verizon apn.
FYI
Flashing the phone with G955U1 firmware fixed this issue. I am now able to use this successfully on Verizon.
I bought a lg g8 sprint unlocked refurbished for 370 dollars, the seller said it works on all GSM unlocked, will i use it in brazil, will i have some problem in using on GSM Operators?
You shouldn't have any problems, I've got the US T-Mobile version that is unlocked which works fine in the UK. Only way is to test it...
I bought an unlocked VERIZON G8 (also a CDMA network like Sprint) I was able to activate it in MetroPCS and data and text messages worked but I wasn't able to get the phone to make or receive calls.
Hopefully you won't have the same problem. I had to return mine. I suspect the phone app was the problem. It had a lot of options specific to Verizon. I wish I would have tried a 3rd party phone app...
sprint is cdma or gsm?

Sprint is CDMA. Just because a phone is unlocked and has a clean IMEI does NOT mean it will work 100% on another carrier

Did you get it via eBay? Sounds like a bargain though
I should get mine next week from USA for a similar price.
I had read that the Sprint one will work if it's unlocked. The Verizon one should as well. I'm thinking if there are issues, it would be due to carrier specific software?
Sent from my LM-G820 using Tapatalk Pro.
I am using an unlocked Sprint G8 in Switzerland and it's working fine. But check what bands are used by your carrier and whether the different carrier versions support them.
Hoping someone can assist. I bought a LG G8 on Ebay from what appeared, and appears, to be a legitimate seller. The IMEI comes up clean on swappa and all other verification sites. The phone IS unlocked and works perfectly fine on my carrier, Telus, in Canada.
The issue I have is that each time the phone boots up, restarts, etc, I get the messages seen in the attached:
1) Activate Your Device - Please wait while we activate your device for network service. This may take several minutes.
2) Activation Incomplete - This device has not been registered with an account. Please contact your service provider to configure this device for network service.
When I contact Sprint they claim that I need to contact the original account holder as only they can unlock the device, and activate it, and it will only be unlocked if in good standing and active at least 50 days. They also claim the only method to unlock is via them.
I was hoping for some advice here on how to get rid of this nag screen, or what I can say to get Sprint to resolve this.
Thanks!
Other than the 'nag' screen the rest of the phone is fine, you can make calls and use 4G?
I have a T-Mobile one which I will sell because I couldn't get it unlocked via US T-Mobile, they wanted it activated in the US and get a prepaid 100 dollar SIM card.

Correct, 4g and calling works.
Do any of you have a Unlocked Verizon G8 and have it successfully work on a GSM network...in particular were you able to make and receive phone calls? That is where I had a problem.

I have the same issue as well. I deleted sprint bloatware via adb. But I can't find a way to get rid of the nag screen. The phone is certainly unlocked though. I also can't enable wifi calling.
Guys, im using my G8 sprint unlocked on "TIM" and "VIVO" the 2 biggest carriers from brazil, working fine calls, 4g, sms, and mobile data, by the way, this fone is freaking nice for the price, i paid 380 + 120 taxes on ebay, in brazil galaxy s10 costs 900 usd with exynos processor
I have to take some of what I said back. I did a factory reset of my Sprint LG G8 and it is worse than before. I can't edit or add/select a proper APN. Right now the working APN has a mix of Metro and Sprint. MMS doesn't work, forget group texts. I have to send it back. It may be somewhat unlocked, but way too much of a hassle. And with no bootloader unlock, I'm stuck.
So - this is my 1st Dual-SIM phone, and I'm very happy to get away from having to carry 2 different phones (personal on T-Mobile; work on AT&T - in the USA). I thought that everything had been working correctly - until I was away from my Wi-Fi signal. If I have SIM1 selected for data (T-Mobile), everything is fine. If I select SIM2 - I get nothing. It always shows 3G for AT&T even though I'm in a very strong 4G area for AT&T.
I've been through the Access Point Names settings for AT&T and they matched what I found on AT&T's web site. I even duplicated them with a new name to make sure that they were correct - still nothing. I've played around with which slot the SIM card was in as well as only installing one at a time (just AT&T in SIM1, just AT&T in SIM2, etc.) rebooting the phone each time - still no luck.
Hoping for an assist or "things to try" from the community as I don't expect much help from AT&T on an unlocked phones. Any help is very much appreciated!
Thanks!

Welcome to the DS family. Does SIM card manager show 4G/3G/2G enabled for both SIM's? On my older Note 8 4G wasn't supported simultaneously so you had to manually switch the 2nd SIM to 4G but on my Note 10+ this limitation doesn't exist but still worth checking.

That would've been too easy. Do you observe the same behavior if you swap the SIM card positions? Also what if you put in just the AT&T SIM by itself (i.e. does it ever get 4G in either slot)?

I've tried both slots with just the AT&T SIM - never get data and never anything but 3G. Strange thing is calls and texts go through...
Hmm, that sounds like it's missing an LTE band it needs to get 4G with AT&T. I don't have an AT&T SIM hand to test with but for the non-US Samsung phones don't have full support for the frequency bands US carriers use (I'm assuming you have an intl phone so correct if wrong.).
I have the dual SIM and get LTE on ATT. I reckon you need to contact ATT and tell them you are using a note 10+ and need LTE enabled.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with them last night. They had me set up the Access Point names over & over - no luck. They suggested I buy an AT&T branded phone. Big help...
I once came from another device to another device and had the wrong kind of sim for 4G/LTE. Or maybe the sim is damaged, or it's just registered wrong.
So: try Hard reset the device AND get a replacement sim card from ATT (can get them at the store and don't let them sucker you into paying for it). Perhaps that will do it.
Came across the post below - I do have an old AT&T SIM card (6 or 7 years?). Looks like an Android 9 update at some point caused issues with older AT&T SIM cards. I'm heading out to get a new SIM from AT&T tonight... Thanks for the attempts at helping - I'll update tonight and let you know how it goes. May be in for a fight - it's a corporate phone and I'm not authorized on the account...

So - I was able to get it working. I had been using the same SIM card for 6+ years. However, getting a new one didn't fix the issue.
They said that the IMEI number wasn't coming up as a valid number. I had a One Plus 7 Pro laying around, so I had them register the new SIM card to that phone, and it magically started working (the old Sim didn't work in it, either). After getting that working, I just moved the SIM to the Note 10+, and haven't had any issues, since.

Is the phone SIM unlocked &/or has the phone been fully paid off?
oem unlocking is greyed out so im not sure what it is
i bought it renewed off amazon
OEM Unlocking grayed out usually means this was a Verizon device. My P6P was advertised as being an AT&T model and I was able to unlock my bootloader. That means nothing however, so run the IMEI through a check website. That will tell you if the unit is AT&T or Verizon.
Cricket is owned by AT&T. The hotspot is only available to AT&T subscribers with the appropriate plan. Cricket, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have any plans with hotspot, so you won't be able to use the feature.
not sure which imei site to try i tried like 3 of em and got conflicting results..um yes cricket does https://www.cricketwireless.com/support/plans-and-features/plans.html

Thus the qualifier, "to the best of my knowledge". Contact Cricket and ask why the hotspot isn't working.
As to the IMEI check, I usually use imeicheck.net. However, you can also look at the box and count the number of barcodes. If you have five barcodes on the side of the box you have a Verizon unit. Otherwise it is AT&T or T-Mobile.
imei check says its
Model Name:
G8V0U other than that nothing about Verizon/ATT/Tmobile
cricket gives some BS about we cant Guarantee comparability, if it isnt 1 of ours

According to a quick Google search, yours is an AT&T model. So is mine, yet mine I could unlock while yours is locked. All I can think of here is that you put your SIM into the phone prior to first boot and AT&T locked down the phone.
As to Cricket blocking the hotspot, that is their right, unfair as it is.
so if its at&t how do i sim unlock it? well thats why want to root it to tether
For the record, I forgot that you purchased this device renewed. So it was the original purchaser and not you who dropped his SIM into the phone prior to first boot and booted the phone. I apologize for the accusation. Anyway, when he found out the device was locked down due to his booting the phone with the SIM in it, he returned the unit. It's either that or he did the shady thing and swapped his phone bought from AT&T with a new one purchased from Amazon that, based upon personal experience, can be unlocked.
Your problem isn't with the SIM but the bootloader. AT&T is just like Verizon in that they lock the bootloader. While you may have some luck contacting AT&T customer service, you would be better served returning the renewed phone to Amazon and purchasing a new one, one that you know hasn't been touched.
right now it says with cricket to tether need to get att plan if i switch to verizon with hotspot will that message still be there or is the carrier sending that with the sim card?
its not sim locked i dont think..its been on tmobile its now on cricket, so im saying if i go to visible wireless that allows hotspots as long as it will talk and text on verizon it will allow hotspotting or does sim lock allow to be on another network but hotspot does not work?
Carrier sends that with the SIM card, so if you switch SIM cards and your Verizon service includes hotspot the hotspot should be unlocked.
