Android 10 update now force closes all my background apps - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, i've been experiencing this problem for a while now: every time i put an app in the background (swipe up on gesture / middle button in traditional), Android immediately closes it for me. I keep seeing in the list of open apps (long swipe up on gesture / square key in traditional) the apps I should have in the background but as soon as I open them it's like I'm starting them for the first time, not saving anything I was doing before. So far i've been able to live with it, but now I can't postpone this problem anymore.
What i tried so far:
Restarted the phone several time
Turned off adaptive battery and battery optimization
Turned off energy saving
Didn't touch anything in the developer settings
And i got another issue probably linked to this one: in the GMail app, the notifications for multiple accounts only works to the account you are viewing, not to the others. (Example: If i'm connected to two accounts, A and B, and i'm viewing B's emails, if i receive an email on A's account the notification won't work. If i receive the email on B's account while i'm viewing A's emails, it won't work either).
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Just in case you want to know i'm currently on 11.0.5.0 build.
EDIT 2: Link to my reply with a possible solution to the application issue: LINK

Xiaomi team for our device is at fault. If you want the best android experience you should buy Pixel phones.

I'm also having this problem. Seems that restart helps a bit for some time but not for long. It is really an awful experience to use the phone like this. Having the 4 GB version.

It's the first time that I'll complain about this phone! But the use is unbearable now! I have the 4gb version too! I hope the next update fixes things

As far as I know, this problem is common on our device. If the next update isn't going to fix it, then I'm switching to a custom ROM. HavocOS, RebelOS or LineageOS 17.1.

Never had this problem before but is indeed the first time I'm also considering a custom Rom too!

If you're rooted you can fix this using LSpeed app

Hello again, i apologize for being away for a while, but i had personal problems.
I just wanted to reply to my own thread because today i updated to 11.0.7.0 build, but they don't seem to have solved anything? The changelog says only
Optimization: Increased system stability. Reduced system lag

(other than June Security Patch). I'm reading the replies now, and i have to tell you that (currently) i can't root or install a Custom Rom because it would conflict with my bank's application.
So, once again, no support from Xiaomi... but the great news is that i may have found a solution for the application problem! I will link this reply to the main post, so you can find it more easily, let me know if it works for you too!
What i did:
Disabled Adaptive Battery under "Settings -> Battery ->Adaptive Battery"
Disabled Night brightness (also the plannings)
Disabled Do Not Disturb (also the plannings)
Disabled Rest mode (if any)
Rebooted the phone
Try it out with two application, and if you want to reactivate some features after the reboot, i discovered that "Adaptive Battery" creates problems only after some days since it's turned on, so i suggest to keep it disabled. For the other settings, i can't confirm anything because i haven't tried yet, so let me know.

Thanks
Finaly it worked. :good:
I was searching for this problem for a long time.
Your solution worked with me.
I want to say:
I already jave disabled adaptive battery, Night brightness and Don't disturb mode. But only Recovery mode I needed to disable it, then I rebooted the phone.
Now I can switch between applications, and no application have been closed.
Thank you

what recovery mode do you think?where can I find it? thanks

Push Notifications

Hello
I have massive problems with push Gmail messages or Whatsapp . These come only if I make the display on .
These issues are also discussed in OnePlus forum .
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/push-notification-issues.451149/
You have this problem or not there solutions ?
Yup, I have the same problem and trust me, thousands of other people seem to have them as well even on other phones. What I found out so far is that it's a feature of Doze in Marshmallow that's supposed to save battery.
People on here and OnePlus forums have recommended to me to either set notification priority of apps you have problems with to TREAT AS PRIORITY in App Notifications in Settings.
Other thing that was recommended was going into battery, select BATTERY OPTIMIZATION from the drop down menu, select ALL APPS and disable battery optimization for apps you want to get notifications from instantly when get pushed to you.
Now, that's all nice and dandy but, for me at least, neither of these options work. And a lot of apps are impacted, not just Gmail/Inbox/WhatsApp/Twitter/Flashscore etc...
Any insights and fixes would be appreciated because it's really annoying. I get emails from work that are sometimes quite urgent and if my phone is in "Doze Mode", I don't get notified which kinda destroys the whole purpose of push notifications in the first place.
Exactly the same problem here as described above by Donjuan89, tried the same solutions, even installed the PNF app but that also does not work.
This is very annoying to say the least, plus other bugs like no ringtone, the memory issue, the fact that Dashcharge is closed source, sources released but no stock recovery, the phone is quite a disappointment.
It shows that they didn't even do basic testing.
Seems not being a OnePlus problem...same issues on my Galaxy S6 edge...
disable dozemode then test greenify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=de
Try "Push Notification Fixer" root app from PlayStore.
I had the same issue, only with GMail (WhatsApp has been fixed in the meantime I think).
I am on Oxygen 3.2.4, I set Gmail notifications "TREAT AS PRIORITY", it seems working!
Does it work for you on latest OS release?

Delayed Notifications In Android P

First off, I disabled adaptive battery in Android P. Ever since the upgrade from 8 to 9, I noticed that notifications are right around 5 minutes late. I have a couple time-sensitive apps that I need notifications right away. Gmail and another app for my home automation. In Android 8, the were flawless. However, ever since going to 9, not so much.
I also noticed that when I delete messages in the gmail app for gmail and an IMAP email server I have it does nothing with the messages on the server. I login to webmail from a computer and the messages are still in the Inbox.
Anyone have any ideas? I am going to try a wipe again to see if it resolves the issues, but I am out of ideas. I had the above issues in Android 9 beta as well. I would downgrade and it fixed them.
I have the same thing and it turns out it is a common issue with Pie. I have not found a solution yet. I have read all kinds of things people have tried and nothing seems to help. Sorry that I can't be more positive. Hopefully Google will figure something out and fix in an update.
Here is a two page post I started about the issue but there are also many others online describing the same thing:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/android-pie/904647-notifications-delayed-stopped.html
My thought is that the delayed notifications are due to Android Pies implementation of adaptive battery. Maybe try excluding the apps you want to receive notifications from in a timely manner?

You don't happen to have data saver in the quick tiles turned on by accident do you? That does prevent notifications from getting pushed. Both my parents had this on and a bunch of notifications came through after turning it off. I made sure to remove it from even being an available option.

been fighting with this issue as well, but it only seems to be gmail, and a couple other apps, my sms notifications seem to come through fine, at least as far as I can tell. I've turned off adaptive battery etc, nothing seems to make a difference. sometimes i can turn my screen on and all the notifications will come flooding in, other times they come through 10ish min later.
yes i have also these issue
and i opened thread on these https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/gmail-sync-problems-pie-t3839357
also i tried many apps, but instead of gmail but yet i didn't find any solution

Made sure it was off early on. No change.
The best way to describe my issue is that once the screen times out and has been off for at least about 5 minutes, notification sounds are delayed. It is sort of like the phone goes into a deeper sleep or something and then the problem arises. As soon as I use my fingerprint to wake the phone, all notifications blast through.
The delay can vary. Sometimes it is only 15 minutes or so, but often it is much longer. It is almost like once in a while an app wants to call home or something and to do so wakes up the phone just enough to allow some notifications through.
There also seem to be some issues with individual apps and notifications that may be fixed when a developer updates their app for Pie. For example, most apps notify immediately when the screen is on or within that first 5 minutes or so after the screen goes off. But since installing Pie, Kuna always has a delay of 5 to 10 minutes before notifying. Kuna does this 100% of the time. In fact if I have the phone awake, looking at the screen when walking out the front door, when the motion sensor is triggered, immediately there is a notification icon. But the sound notification is always delayed. This seems like an issue with Kuna and they are well know for being very slow with updates and fixes but eventually they do fix things. But the notification sound delays described in this thread do indeed seem like a system issue with Pie. Hopefully enough people will have the issue that Google will figure it out and fix.
I am having same issues after updating to Android P. At first, notifications came late about 5 min, but then they started to vary some coming in 15-30 minutes later. Can't figure out what is causing the time difference but either way I can't find a fix. I spoke with Google support and they had no fix as well.

Nope, they didn't mention anything about existing issues or being aware of the issue.
Any one found any solutions or fixes? I feel like my notifications are becoming even more delayed now and have also realized I'm not getting a lot of various notifications at all (through many different apps).
I am guessing you all are aware of this, and have tried, however I just found this recently and thought I would share for anyone that doesn't know.... Settings > Apps and Notifications > Advanced > Special App Access ..... Lots of options here with one of them being battery optimization for individual apps. After I upgraded to P, hardly any of my frequently used apps were given full battery use. Haven't played with all the other options there, however just granting apps full battery seemed to help me out.

One of the first things I tried was giving full useage, (no battery optimization) for all apps that I want notifications from. Did not help. Many other apps are still being optimized. I thought I had previously found a way to turn off all battery optimization but because I do have many apps in that list that are being optimized, I obviously did not. Right now I can't find a global setting to turn off battery optimization even though I thought I did before?
So I noticed this morning, that the main app/notification that's super delayed (5-10min after the event should have triggered) it doesn't happen when my phone is plugged in or i have the screen on in my hand. Even after going through all the battery save features and making sure this app is exempt from them, it still happens if the screen is off, or my phone is off the charger. super annoying. wish there was a fix for this already!

Verizon sent me a replacement because of this problem. I was apprehensive, but got a very nice re-furb. Still have the same problem, but I got a phone that is indicated as Verizon on the LG site. In developer mode, the bootloader unlock button works. I guess everything isn't bad. I sure hope Google straightens this out soon.

This happens only with Gmail on my phone - WhatsApp and Messages send instant notifications. Messages isn't optimized, the other apps are.
I can live with that, no big deal. Perhaps disabling battery optimization for Gmail would fix this, though.
Interesting note: I was talking to YouMail support today about something else but I asked about an issue where I get an email and transcript of a new voicemail but when I go to the YouMail app that voicemail is not shown until I drag down from the top of the screen to refresh the list. Support told me they are aware of this but can not do anything because it is a problem with the "latest Android version causing delay". So it is becoming a more widely known issue and hopefully Google will fix soon.
Thanks for all the feedback. Speaking of delay, I think I have tried just about every fix here and then some and still no luck. Wiping the phone did nothing as well. At this point, I would almost like to revert back to v8 to get this fixed.
I tried this supposed fix, (reply #51). https://forums.androidcentral.com/a...ifications-delayed-stopped-3.html#post6355714
No idea if it worked for me as when you restart the phone you need to do it again and less than 30 minutes after I went through the steps, my Pixel2 got the October update for Pie and required a restart!

GBWhatsapp being killed in background even with revelant settings off

The problem: GBWhatsapp, after the phone is locked for a while, gets its bg service killed, making it unable to receive messages (and Whatsapp Web from working) until I turn on the phone and launch it again.
I tried tweaking all revelant settings, as per this guide here from this post , even doing the hold-and-lock-app thing in the recent apps menu. Only thing I couldn't do, due to the setting not being there in MIUI 10, is turning off Memory Optimization.
After checking in the developer options ("Running services") it seems the process does in fact keep working, but the "MessageService" that usually runs is killed.
The problem is not with the GBWhatsapp mod itself, as in my previous Samsung phone it worked with 0 issues. Any idea on what to do? I'm tempted to just make an AutoMate flow that periodically launches GBWA.

The same heappend to me. You have to set energy optimization to no restriction and set the app to autostart.
I fell no downside on battery life.

Well... Look into notification settings, permission... Give it all. Are you up to date on whatsappgb?
What rom are you using?
Rom is stock MIUI 10, and all notification settings are ok. Also gave it all permissions avaiable, and I downloaded GBWA from the website yesterday since this was a new phone.
same problem in realme phones..not getting online toast feature also..its workng old phones without any pblm..

Redmi note 8 notification sound problem

Hello,
I'm from Morocco and currently using a XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 8, (64Go/4Go), running the latest version of MIUI 11.0.11.0 Global stable with Android 9.
So i'm having this really annoying problem whith the notification when the phone is closed. So basiclly the sound of the notification should come at the time of recieving the notification but in my case there is a delay of 2 to 3 min or even more than that sometimes. And even sometimes the sound is not heard at all even with the notification is recieved. Only the light bulbe for the notification is blinking.
This problem happened especially with the Whatsapp application. Everything in the notifications seetings is on, all permission are granted, locked the app in the recent app, turned on autostart, disabled battery saver even though i don't use it at all, put no restriction on the app, turned on background data. I've tried to use different network connection still the same problem. I don't seem to find a reason why would this happend and find a solution for that. I did perform a factory reset but doesn't seem to be fixed. Everything in the begining was working fine no issue at all. I don't seem to remember when it start to happend, I've asked my freinds owning the same device if they are facing the same issue all of them denied. So the question is if all the devices have the same software that they are operating on they should have the same bug or problem if i wan't to say. But not in this case. I have not installed any 3rd party app that has to do with the battery at all.
I do use my mom's phone to test this out. The phone is on everything works perfectly. I locked the phone and the problem start. It's like ther is something that shut the notifications immediately when i close the phone (dnd is not activated also battery saver as i mentioned earlier). So if there is any kind of solution to this problem please help me with or if there is a dev please let them know to fix this issue. I did reported it in the feedback section on the phone 10 times in the time of writing this thread. I'm currently waiting for the new update hoping that it will fix the problem otherwise this is really disappointing. The best selling phone in the market facing issue like this, that's not very acceptable at all. This made me miss a lot of important notifications. Hope that it will be fixed as soon as possible.
If you want to help me and you need any more info please leave me a comment and i will send them to you (screenshots of the settings etc....).
Thanks for your time.
Stay safe.
Have a nice day.

1. Turn off miui optimization under developer options
2. Give all permissions, no battery optimization to google play services and framework. Before doing this, clear data of those apps(removes google account!).
3. Check if it's added to game turbo or not
These are some more possible solutions. After checking all those, reboot once and check if the problem is solved or not.

Hello,
Thanks for you response. I've already done what you did sggest to me but still the samething always late notification sound.
It's not added to game turbo i don't even use it and it's disabled. Google play services and framework don't have any kind of restrictions whatsoever. I don't want turn off miui optimization cuz it mess up with a lot of visuals.
I think it's a software issue. Because sometimes when i want to change the ringtone and i tap on a different one it took a lit bit of time to play it same thing when changing the notification. This problem is happening when the phone is locked only.
I'm cuurently waiting for the new update with a hope that it will fix it.
Thanks again.

Question Some notifications not showing + Google Assistant issue

Hi There,
I'm running the latest available version of Color OS11 on my OP9Pro in China. So it is the stock OS that came with the device - updated for the latest patch etc.
I have a couple of issues that I'm hoping to get some help with or thoughts on how to fix it.
1. Some apps just don't show any notifications. All notifications are allowed and the apps themselves work fine, but I don't get any notifications at all.
2. Google assistant works, but I can't get 'Hey Google' to work, and in the settings for voice match, it 'not available for this language'. I've looked at other forums and posts on this and followed the instructions and changed the language as suggested but it still doesn't work.
3. The phone automatically switches off 'high performance mode'. After manually turning on this setting, it switches this off automatically at some point. Do you know why that would happen? Is it something that happens when the battery dips under 20%?
Thanks, and apologies if some of this has been covered already, but I wasn't able to find a fix to this.
Cheers,
A

I don't have a ton of great answers, but I can commiserate. I've noticed with the latest OTA though that the notifications have been much better. Used to be that Gmail would never tell me when I have a message until I go into the app which defeats the purpose. Now, it gives me notifications in a timely manner.
Something important is to make sure you minimize battery savings in the settings as I think OxygenOS is too overzealous in killing apps. So, I turned off battery optimization to any app I needed notifications from that were acting up: Gmail and calendar were the main ones. Some apps like Facebook gave notifications anyway, so it's really strange as to what apps weren't working and which were.
I'm not sure about the language thing. As for high performance mode, it's likely a battery saving issue. Oneplus really seems to like to throttle things back to save battery (or hide their abysmal battery performance relative to competitors). But I'm not sure on that one.
Thanks! The high performance toggle is indeed linked with battery levels.
I'm using coloros, not oxygen os as I'm in China. So not sure if coloros is doing the same as OoS, but I have disabled battery optimization for the apps that I want notifications for but don't get it.
Even some notifications in Gmail, outlook are delayed which sometimes defeat the purpose. For example, it game me a reminder at 12:45 for my 12:30 meeting... Haha
A missing update could be the culprit if your Reminder notifications aren't coming through. Make sure the app is up to date, and then try Google Reminders again. Clear the app cache data. Clear the cache data for Google Reminders, and then try using the app again.
Thanks, all those apps are up to date, and I'm running the latest version of coloros available for now. hoping that switching to coloros 12 will fix it.
Stupid question - where do I find google reminders.. didn't seem to see it anywhere
