I am pitching an idea that I have no idea how to implement. I am NOT a developer nor would I be able to acquire the skills necessary quickly. the reason for this post is to ask the community if it would be possible to create a ROM for the Galaxy Nexus or some other old easily unlockable phone that would mimic the functionality of an Android wear watch for use as a head unit in a vehicle similar to Android auto. Of course the ROM would not be the only custom aspect of this project one would also need to create or modify the wear UI in order to facilitate the functions of Android auto. the reason I believe Android wear API would be a good starting place for this project is because internet connection is shared between client and server devices. this would facilitate sharing of information between the devices without needing an Internet connection on the vehicle side. this would also allow the phone to automatically connect wirelessly to the head unit. the current Android auto hacks all require USB OTG. let me know your thoughts and try not to flame me too badly.
Which "Android auto hacks" ?
You mean my Headunit app ?
Android Auto has code to do AA over WiFi direct.
I will try to find a way to enable it, and make it work with my app.
USB is a PITA for anything besides charging.
WiFi Direct P2P will have it's own problems of course, but I'm really getting a hate-on for USB and the Host mode issues.

Is AA here short for Android Auto?
Will WiFi direct allow for automatic connections without removing device from holster/ pocket?
The other issue with using a real Android Auto app is the lollipop requirement. My Daily driver is a droid turbo and there's no telling when my phone will get its update. ( and the bootloader has a damn chastity strap)
HI Guys,
Looking for some help.
I have an HTC U11 on Oreo. Recently installed a Kenwood 7704S Android Auto HU.
Installed Android Auto app via google play, as well as latest version direct from Google. Phone is just not detected using the original USB C cable BUT the phone is charging, all other functions work via the Android Auto app without being cable connected. Short of instalkling older AA apk versions I am at a loss. I have tested unit with a iphone and Apple Car Play launches fine so it is not a a HU issue as I assumed. I had used this unit with a P10 Plus and it worked but I had intermittent issue with it as well but with the U11 it has just quit launching all together. I have reset phone to factory and tried fresh, no success. I have enabled Developer mode and enable USB debugging and selected MTP Protocol still no luck.
Anyone experience U11 Android auto issues, super frustrating and dont want to run a custom rom just yet. Suggestions welcome cause I am at wits end beside trying other AA versions from earlier dates or rolling back to Nougat, that I have not yet tried. Phone has worked on Oreo and I got it with Oreo but I was experience intermitent connectivity
Hi,
Is there a way to use an unused android device as a wireless android auto device? My car does not have wireless android auto and I have a spare android device (that is rooted). I would very appreciate streaming android auto from my phone to my other device that is link to my car by USB connection
Thanks
Hey everyone, I'm struggling to make this device working with Android Auto (wired) on my Mazda CX3: it was perfectly working on my OP7 Pro
When I connect it to the car the Realme start to flash that is connecting and back to normal continously in a loop and I can't do anything.
Is it something happening to anybody else ?
Did someone find a solution ?
I tried to clear all connections, clear data/cashe in AA app and I don't know what to do anymore...
Thanks for any feedback !
hello, i have exactly the same problem on the Renault Clio 4 (2019) car. And I can't solve it.
Anybody else does have problem with AA and this phone ?
Close all programs, reboot phone then go into settings and search android auto before plugging in that is how i got it to work in my van.
Also check playstore and see if there is an update and allow nearby devices permission and make sure it isnt restricted in battery settings.

No way... I believe it's a Mazda problem but I update the infotainment without any success for AA.
With other smartphones it works with no problem... it's a pity !
Hello,
for me AA is working with renault car.
You can't try to "Start Head Unit Server" manually.
[Android 4.1+]Proxy/GateWay for Android Auto
Background - Couple of years ago Google have launched Android Auto, but up till recently the only way to connect your device to the car/head unit was to plug in a USB cable. As of 2018 this starts to change, BUT it looks like you will need to...

Same problem here with Realme GT Master Edition and Android Auto in my Mazda 3 2019.
The only way to connect my phone with Android auto is to eliminate the device in Mazda Connect before connecting it with USB cable.
But we are not the only ones https://support.google.com/androida...uous-disconnected-from-mazda?#redirected=true
I have a car renault captur version two that doesn't manage the apple carplay (unless I modify the sw of the control unit WHICH I DON'T WANT TO DO) is there a way to be able to connect an android mobile phone (carplay is managed by the captur) and have it done by bridge for the apple world especially via wireless?
Has anyone faced this problem?? there are usb dongles but other than being expensive (over 80 euros) I'm not sure that they also work wirelessly
I saw Headunit Reloaded Emulator.. but then??
Thanks everyone for the info
