Has anyone had issues to have the phone recognized on a PC?
Previously i had been able to connect it and to flash regular updates with odin and out of the blue
the phone will not show up at all on the pc, it just charges and if i plug it turned off a warning sign shows on the usb connector.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I am having a problem when I connect my phone to PC. I get the attached screen after connecting the cable, and the phone memory drives never show up.
(dark blue screen that shows date and time "Alarm", "Music", "Gallery", and "Voice Search at the bottom)
It happens both in debugging and non-debugging modes. Also, the GPS icon on top of the taskbar starts blinking shortly after connecting. MTB connecting does not start.
I have no idea where this page comes from!!
Thanks
P.S.-Sorry that I could not embed the image here in this post since I have posted less that 10 posts in this forum.
You got USB drivers installed on PC.....is it Windows....or Mac?
What do you see if you pull down Notification Blind?
What is the symbol on the top left Notification ?
Does PC give any message regarding drivers when phone connected, with USB debugging selected on phone?
Are you using supplied micro USB cord?

The USB drivers are fine, It was working before on this PC.
I can not pull down the Notification bar like I do on normal screen.
The symbol on left was for SetCPU notification. I have flashed the stock ROM again and everything is clean, problem still exists.
PC gives no message, even the phone does not charge!
I am using the original USB cable.
Thanks
OK.....I no like this:

Sounds HW related problem!!!
You try different USB ports, different cords, different PC or Laptop....just to eliminate everything but the phone!!!
Can ODIN see phone, in Download Mode?? Here also you need USB Debugging selected.
Something like this, left box should be Yellow:

The only thing that I need to try is a different cable.
It also looks HW issue to me.
I could connect it in Download mode to flash the stock ROM after several connecting and disconnecting the usb cable.
I may take it for warranty tomorrow. Is flashing the stock ROM is enough to have the phone looks like factory defaults. It looks unrooted and no recovery mode now.
Thanks

it may just be the cable/usb cord!!!
I'd say if you are now on Stock FW, and have restored Stock Recovery, and un-rooted, you are OK for Warranty.......
Let us know how you get on,
Cheers.
Yes It was cable. it works fine with another cable.
Thanks

Hello,
I've a big issue, if I try to connect the phone, via usb, to the pc windows none of the devices recognize the connection.
Nothing appear on the Defy. On the Pc, sometimes appear the "new device windows" but if I try to install drivers it show me an alert saying that the device is not installed correctly.
I've tried all the motorola drivers available but nothing happen. I've also tried 2 other pc and 2 other usb cable
Fortunally, the device is rooted and I can install a nandroid backup but I don't know how I can resolve this issue, someone can help me?
Thanks

Enable / disable USB debugging maybe? But normally there should be a prompt on the phone when you plug it in (pulling down the status bar usually asks you what to do, give memory card access, charge only...). Btw, does the Defy charge when plugged in or does the LED light up?

Tried but nothing change. The phone doesn't charge correctly and no prompt message if I connect it to the pc.
And it is definitely not the cable and / or the USB port? Then it has to be a hardware problem on the phone's side I think.

Not the cable and not the USB
There's a way to reinstall all the Defy driver without the cable?
Try installing new moto drivers.

Charging didn't work if I connect the phone to the pc, it's strange because if I connect to the electrical power it works.
I also think that I've had an issue when I've installed the custom firmware
Everytime i connect my phone to my computer through a usb both third party and OEM usb cable the phone notification doesn't show anything or any indication that i can select to enter into storage mode.
any idea what might be wrong because i dont storage mode alot so i dont know if anything can be wrong with the usb port.

What ROM you running, that might help ..... maybe turn off ADB , in settings, and check usb storage there ...
no ROM, everything is stock and debugging mode is unchecked as well
when i mannually try to use the USB mass storage from Setting>Wireless>USB utillties and click on Connect Storage to PC it gives me a window saying "ATTENTION: Usb is connected. Remove the cable" when i remove the cable then it tell me to Connect the USB cable
Same thing happens to me.
My solution is to plug my/your phone to the computer and open the notifications. Click/press on the usb is connected notification and you can enter storage mode directly without hassle.

When I had this problem, I just needed to fix permissions in recovery. Is the phone rooted? Did you recently buy it new or used?
Solution is simple I suppose.
Disconnect the cable.
Go to settings from where USB connection can be enabled.
Click that option and it will ask you to connect the cable.
Only then connect it. That should be work.

For USB Storage mode:
1. Disconnect
2. Settings->Wireless and network->USB utilities
3. Click button: Connect storage to PC
4. Plug in USB Cable
I hope it helps.

Do you mean adb connection or usb mass storage one?
I don't know whether you've checked this yet, but try this:
if you mean the adb, on the home screen, press: menu>setting>applications>development>check on usb debugging
if it is usb storage, refer to what mayerkemp said
or if you can see usb logo on notification bar, slide it down and tap connect storage to pc
Thanks guys,
Problem is that when I click on connect storage it either says "connect the cable to use mass storage" or if the cable is connected it says "USB is connected. Remove the cable."
Any thoughts?
Hi guy's, so I've reinstalled a backed up rom and it's fine now.
Just always check development mode on application setting, then u can change to usb storage with tap usb connected from expanded status bar, that's what I do on DXLM3
Sorry for my bad english
I have had issues connecting the Note 4 to my PCs. I have tried multiple cables and computers. A usb error appears "Usb Device not recognized" "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and WIndows does not recognize it." All PC's are running windows 8. I have tried connecting it via fastboot to flash to stock as well as through ADB and I cannot get anything to read the device.
Are you using the oem cable? Sometimes cheap generic cables give errors. Enable usb debugging and see if that helps. Good luck.

Thanks but I've tried multiple. OEM and aftermakert cables. I found that when I put it in the charger it doesn't detect it as AC. I believe for some reason when the phone is connected to the PC it doesn't switch to MTP, which could cause the issue. I have wiped the phone, tried different roms, and installing plasma kernel. I am at my wits end. I have tried finding sprint's seceret number to dial, supposedly there's a menu to force MTP but I can't find it anywhere.
OK. So I couldn't connect via cable I tried flashing the stock image though mobile odin and now I lost recovery and the phone bootloops. Does anyone know a way to boot into recovery from the external SD card?
I would just flash the OF5 tar and start from scratch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...om-sm-n910p-stock-of5-odin-flashable-t3158114
Sounds like it's your computer.
Edit: Any other phone's Samsung or not able to connect? Does your phone charge with any or all of your cables? Hopefully the stock cable.
You need to go to Device Manager and Uninstall/reinstall the drivers pertaining to USB
Uninstall the samsung drivers
After that, unplug your powercord from the laptop
connect the phone to your usb port first and then replug your powercord and turn on your laptop
let the usb and samsung drivers reinstall(auto or manual)(if it detects it normally))

I wish I could, the issue is that since I get this USB error, I can't get ODIN to detect my phone.

I was able to get my Note 3 to connect with no problem, I was even able to get ODIN to detect it in Fastboot. I have one more cable I am going to try tonight, I have my girlfriend bringing it with her. I may have switched an S4 cable with the Note 4 cable. I hope this is the case.

I was using my desktop, and I tried this on my laptop. Didn't work. Thanks though! I am wondering if this possibly could be a Windows 8.1 issue...
Anyways, 5.50 to anyone who gets this working.
I accidentally switched cables with my son's s4 and nothing would work. Figured it out and then I could connect to my computer. Could be the same thing lol.

I wish that was the case. I am wondering if it's a windows 8 issue now.
I'm on 8.1 pro, and my devices detects fine under cm12.1.
Have you tried going into Settings > Storage. select the 3 dot menu on the top right and force MTP or PTP detection while device is connected to PC / Laptop?
