I love my 64 GB Mi MAX. My previous phone was a 6" Huawei Ascend Mate 7 (32 GB dual SIM). The Mi MAX is everything my Mate 7 was (and more) at HALF the price of my previous mate 7. However, I find it wastes a lot of space as it doesn't utilize the large screen size very well. My previous mate 7 (currently on Marshmallow) has a 'view mode' option in which you can adjust the amount of information/reading material/screen elements that can fit into the screen. I just found out that despite the bigger screen size (6.44"), my Mi MAX is not able to match the information density/screen elements density of my smaller, 6", 2-year old Mate 7. With my Mate 7, I am able to fit more screen items or fit in more lines and columns of text (like the number of displayed 'contact names' in one screen for example, or the number of lines displayed in the settings page). Essentially, there is more reading space in my 6" Mate 7 than in my Mi MAX. Somehow it's disappointing considering the Mi MAX screen is 0.44" larger than the Mate 7.
Is there a way to fix this without rooting the phone or unlocking the bootloader?
I'd appreciate any step-by-step help on this matter. Thanks.
Also, I find the screen on the Mi Max is not as sensitive on some parts (notably, the right half). 'Next page' swiping at the right half portion of the screen sometimes doesn't get registered by the screen whereas on the left half portion, the 'next page' swipe always gets registered (no second try needed). The long press (for example, to open links in a separate tab in Chrome) is also less sensitive on the right half portion; sometimes it doesn't register at the first try, or that you need to 'long press' harder for the long press to register (or release and try a second or third time). Never had this issue with my Mate 7 which was perfectly sensitive and responsive to touch in ALL screen areas.
Anybody else has this issue? (I believe it is not very noticeable unless you came from a phone with excellent, or perfect screen sensitivity.) Is this a software or a hardware issue? Anyone else notice this on their Mi Max or Xiaomi phones? Is there a way to adjust/calibrate screen sensitivity on the Mi Max? or a 'gloves mode' perhaps like on the Mate 7? I don't find any 'gloves mode' on the settings menu of my Mi Max. (Miui 7.3.14.0.0). Any help/suggestion on this is welcome. By the way, I don't use any screen protector on my Mi Max so the screen sensitivity issue is not caused by any screen protector.
-------------------------
What I like about the Mi Max (and Mate 7): large screen with sufficient 'retina' resolution, large battery capacity, accurate fingerprint sensor, dual sim, LTE-only option, metal body and navigation buttons that do not occupy screen space. Advantages unique to Mi Max: IR blaster, quick charge 3.0 (although my mate 7 actually charges faster than Mi Max on my Aukey quick charge 3.0 charger). Also, price advantage. Advantages unique to Mate 7: Excellent touchscreen sensitivity, screen display density (has 'view modes' to maximize screen information displayed), NFC-capable (though I don't use it).

About the first question, this may help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-how-to-change-dpi-root-t3335596
the appropriate dpi value for you is needed to be found.
360 dpi work fine!
I use 340
I use 280 DPI for most stuff but some things I have set to 300 or 320 DPI. It feels much more like a little computer that way.

Does anyone has cosmetic issues with icons after dpi change?
Edit.
Build.prop edit works for the issue.

Hi,
for touch screen sensitive you are right - I have the same problem
but i fixed this problem by force stop Themes app. and clear cache data .
this is software error . I think that
try and tell me the result.
On MIUI 8, I added these lines to build.prop:
ro.sf.lcd_density=390
persist.miui.density_v2=390
In Settings/Display, I set font size to medium.
That way I get a much smaller status bar and smaller icons, while text is still big enough to read comfortably with the phone held at arm's length. I wouldn't use tiny dpi values because text becomes too small. See attached screenshot of Firefox Android.
On MIUI I always have the touch issue where scrolling is difficult and touches are not registered. I don't have that issue at all on CM13 or Resurrection Remix so it's definitely something with MIUI that is the problem.

Steps:
1- Activate Developer options
2- Memory optimization = High
3- Turn on MIUI optimization = Off
also don't use system launcher and Themes app. and clear data cache of system launcher and Themes app.

I've done all that and I never use the stock launcher, always Nova and the issue is always there on Miui. Now that my Resurrection Remix ROM is 100 percent stable and fast with good battery life I just use that now.
I'm glad the touch screen sensitivity issue on the Mi Max is confirmed by other Mi Max owners here. Frankly, it's annoying to me. Never had a smartphone before like the Mi Max that seems to be 'confused' in distinguishing between vertical and horizontal swipes and at times, 'hesitates' by not fully executing the swipe. Very common in Gmail (where the side bar can be swiped horizontally or vertically) or in the themes app where you scroll horizontally to see previews of the theme. I'm hoping Xiaomi fixes this issue if not in MIUI8, then at least in MIUI9 or the global Nougat release for the Mi Max.

I never use the default launcher. Have always been on Nova Prime in all my phones and tablets. Also had turned off MIUI optimization from the first day I got my Mi Max. The only thing new I did in your suggestion is to set Memory optimization to 'High' (from the default which is 'Medium') and to clear data cache of system launcher and themes app. The touch sensitivity problem is still there. Very annoying in Gmail app. My scroll tests on the Gmail sidebar (up and down several times in a row) reveals the problem is still there even with your suggested settings. I guess it's really a MIUI issue which Xiaomi needs to fix. It really makes the phone feel cheap (although I must admit, it is indeed a cheaply priced phone for what it has to offer: at this price, Samsung only has the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime as the best it can offer, which has way smaller screen, lower specced processor, no ir blaster and much smaller battery capacity).
Hi
I recently bought Xiaomi Mi Max 3gb, with MIUI Global 8.1 Stable 8.1.3.0.0(MBCMIDI) on it.
Great phone but definitely got dissappointed after 2 days of using it couse of the touch screen issues.
Hoped to solve the problem by entering to touch sensor test(through *#*#64663#*#* ) and activating Touch calibration, but unfortunately there is no “ Touch calibration“ option, just“pass“ and “fail“.
Tried changing Memory optimization to high but no use.
Is there some solution to the problem?
Thanx
What are the issues?

Am I missing something? I want a bigger font on outside and smaller on inside. I see no option for this. Wtf? Seems dumb.
I agree. I also want the font on the front keyboard to be bigger on the front screen. I haven't found a workaround.

Yep. Or Tasker.
Yeah I'm with you on this one front fonts are way to small
I played around with the minimum width numbers in developer options and adjusted the numbers to where i like them from with in the inner screen. I've noticed that when you go in the minimum width settings from the front screen the numbers are different then when u go in from the inside screen and if you try and adjust them from the front outer screen they won't stick they just default to there original numbers ?
Just tested with Bixby Routine but if doesn't work well. It often doesn't change as it is actually configured which is annoying.
Samsung will probably get around to enabling it latter...

-Tasker plugin support
Per-app refresh rate settings:
Set different refresh rate settings for every app either adaptive or fixed(stationary) [premium].
Motion smoothness on power saving mode
-GMH will apply a workaround to bypass 60Hz limitation on Power Saving Mode (PSM) on supported Samsung smartphones.
-Automatically apply workaround when PSM is enabled [premium]
Need extra steps starting OneUI5.* except when rooted with magisk and using lsposed(experimental). Test it first

-Tasker plug-in support
- Supports up to OneUI4.* only
Others
Battery protection mod (Experimental)
-Option to set maximum charge to 86%-95%(for OneUI4+)[premium]
Customizable refresh rate monitor
-Use statusbar or overlay which you can place anywhere on screen.
-Tasker plugin support
Net speed statusbar indicator
OneUI inspired UI. Dynamic theme and Icon. Manual language selection
Note: The premium license is on a per device basis (not per user).
***these marked features require a one-time ADB procedure (this is not root)
Galaxy Max Hz background service is highly optimized. Background battery usage p is very negligible .
Info:
This app targets older android sdk in order to control refresh rates without ADB setup or root. Just tap OK the dialog that says "This app was built for an older version of Android...." when opened for the first time. If OK button is not visible, just tap the blank space on the lowest portion of the dialog.
If google play protect will prompt during install that the app is built for older version of android and doesn't include the latest privacy protections, you can ignore it and proceed to the installation. For privacy related concern, please refer to FAQ No. 3.

Great that you've brought support to fold 4! I have small issue, it is randomly setting me on standard instead of adaptive, before I do any changes in settings (apart from ash obviously). Any ideas? Thanks!

Maybe triggered by power saving mode being turned on?
It looks totally different on my fold 4? It's like stuck on adaptive but seems to be letting me set per app rate.
Does the screen off 10 work with aod?

We don't have the Z Fold4 to test yet but it should be since Z Fold4 is capable of 10Hz.
the problem with 10Hz is that all apps (instagram, reddit etc) that shows videos are stuttering, so I need to use 24-120hz on those apps.

I more less was thinking if the aod holds the screen on 24/7 if the 10hz lock still happens?
Looking to save battery if I can loli need aod on due to media controls with the phone "off"
Either way thanks

Yes, that's a known limitation of GMH when setting min hz to 10Hz (for these apps which are restored from backup or not installed directly from play store).
For device like ZFold4, It's recommended to keep default min refresh rate to 24Hz and just use the per app settings to adjust individual app refresh rate settings to your liking..
Hey, thank you very much for this amazing app!
Two Issues:
I can just choose between "standard" and "adaptive" mode. The "high" option is greyed out. Why is that, and how can I use high mode?
I can't use the Tasker plugin. I can just add the plugin, but the edit button doesn't show the configurations. Am I doing this wrong?
Questions:
Can you add a QS tile/toggle for "PSM when screen is off"?
the option to limit the refresh rate while tying is just 60Hz, why can't this be lower like 10-24Hz?
At the top of the app it shows the device and says the model, Android 12, but it says "OneUi4.5", but it's on "OneUi4.1.1."
Thank you very much for your help

What version of the app you installed?
And what is the exact model number of your device?
Thank you.
That OneUI4.5 version is a bit strange. That value is actually read from a field in OneUI's Build class.

It says: Version 8.0.0, I set it to alpha update channel. It doesn't say "beta" like in your screenshot here
In settings app, it says: SM-F936B/DS
I don't understand the One UI version either
I bought premium, and it also says that it's activated
------------------------
EDIT: I cleared cache & data and installed the most recent version from GitHub. Now the "high" mode is available again.
I've set up Adaptive to 24-96Hz. Now I have a weird bug, that locks the front screen to 24-60Hz and on the main screen it's correct 24-96Hz. No PSW or anything.
I don't know how to use the Tasker plugin. When I open it, then it just shows a long block of text, (see attached screenshot). There's an edit button (pencil icon) at the top right, but pressing it does nothing. Is there any configurator or even an (G)UI? Or how am I supposed to use the plugin?
Thank you very much
Hi there. Despite changing the update channel to beta, I cannot get the beta version of the app. Tried clearing cache and data several times but still no success. Any idea? I also bought a license. Thought that was the issue but still no update to beta. Helps please? Really wan to use high refresh in PSM. THANKS.

Just reporting that the per-app settings master toggle seems to be ignored. I set my device globally from 10 Hz to 120 Hz and found that YouTube would fall down to 10 Hz when playing videos rather than 24 Hz (which also shouldn't happen). I rectified that by setting YouTube alone to 24 Hz - 120 Hz, but forgot to activate the master toggle for per-app settings. When I switched to YouTube however, it was now working correctly. It wasn't until later that I discovered that I never changed that setting, and testing with it both enabled and disabled seem to have no impact on the behavior. Only completely resetting the individual setting for the YouTube app restored the original (buggy) behavior.

Seems Samsung set higher brightness threshold for 96hz on the front screen which disables 96hz on low brightness condition. Unfortunately, this is beyond control of GMH or any third party app.

I understand that youtube not correctly applying 24 Hz falls under the limitation you mentioned, however shouldn't setting the per-app profile for youtube to 24 Hz minimum, but not having the master per-app toggle on not alter youtube's behavior at all from the global behavior set?

No, global behavior for apps detected as video player is 24hz min unless higher min hz is set as default.

I get that, but with the GLOBAL setting set to 10-120, and the master per-app toggle OFF--meaning NO settings within per-app settings should affect behavior--YouTube falls down to 10 Hz during playback when the YouTube per-app setting is left cleared, but correctly plays back at 24 Hz when its per-app setting is set to a minimum of 24 Hz. Why is YouTube's per-app setting having an affect on refresh rate within the YouTube app when the master per-app toggle is set to off?
Hi Guys, i'm enjoying the OnePlus 9 Pro in these days and i love the video stabilization of the stock camera app but the videos are too saturated and with a lot of contrast. Do you know if it's possibile to reduce these settings?
I own Filmic Pro that is beautiful for the log files but the stabilization is awful.
In the stock app there is the "Movie Mode" where i can select "log" but the aspect ratio is different and i can't change resolution.
I would like to vlog sometimes with this phone and with the standard videos is impossibile to match to my mirrorless footage.

Yes i know the 3 dots but where can i find the settings for saturation, contrast etc.? in that menù there aren't these settings.
There are just:
Resolution
Framerate
Settings (then in the settings i can't tweak anything for the videos)
My Wanbo X1 Pro projector is on the ceiling, upside down. in the settings I turned the image and then any movie (youtube or netflix) the colors are spoiled.
If I leave the screen settings normal, the movies work. The company's support is horrible, they don't respond. Has anyone ever experienced this?
