[Solved] Navigation apps crash on end of install/first start - LineageOS - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

I can't install neither Mapfactor Navigator nor Here WeGo on my Mi Max 3.
Running lineage-16.0-20191011-UNOFFICIAL-nitrogen. Firmware is 10.something
With Navigator: I tried it on a fresh install of Linage, tried it on a fresh install of AospExtended-v7.0-nitrogen-20191115-1506-ALPHA either for good measure but to no avail.
I got both APKs on my SD-card, click either to install, yes, all rights, it says it got installed successfully but on first start it crashes to reboot after a few steps - farthest I came was downloading some maps.
But most of the time it crashes directly after choosing between free or TomTom maps
HERE is basically the same thing, different steps in setting up, but crashes right before it gets to what it's supposed to do.
As you can surely tell by the description, I'm a newbie, so please use simple explanations...
Edit: Just installed Xiaomi.eu 11 and Navigator works fine. I just really, really don't like this OS for it's intrusiveness, so any suggestions still welcomed
2nd Edit: Solved! When switching back from Xiaomi.eu to Lineage, I had the infamous error 7 and had to edit the updater script file. This somehow had the side effect that I could install Mapfactor Navigator and it seems to run flawlessly now.
So I guess thank you for reading...
No, might as well use the opportunity for a general thank you to this forum - without you guys I would be forced to use my phones as the manufacturers intended them. And who wants that.

CM7 Market problems since last week

Hey people,
I'm currently located in China and I've got serious problems with the Market lately.
I'm using and been using CM7 on my Moto Defy for months (almost since CM7-Jordan beginning) and I've never had such Market problems before.
So I'm wondering if
1) other users from China can tell me if things are the same (or fine) for them?;
2) anyone have hint/suggestion on how to fix this after reading what I did/observed here?:
First, I'll say again that I've never had problems with Market before; none getting it installed (through gapps zip) on CM7 when updating/reflashing ROM or Nand backups/ none with downloading or upgrading apps with the Market app.
But all in a sudden last week, I noticed that the Market was not reacting quickly. I was testing 111004-1128 nightly (which has a newer Superuser file included) then after SU updated itself automatically [coincidence???], all things broke loose, Market would not connect and give me errors. SU would also alway stay in the "Not Installed" List of my Market apps (even after reboots and logins).
I've then tried to install the Superuser Market update fixer app (big mistake I think now) but that just made things worst. In an effort to get the Market going again, I did clean it's cache and eventually it's data which basically resetted all my listed apps in the Market.
Following all that, I did numerous fresh installs [maybe 10 at this point]: RSDL Froyo flashing and CM7 and gapps installs [with and without restoring old working CWM backups] and with countless install combinations of older CM7 builds and gapps versions.
On August's gapps, Market always gives me the "No connection Retry" even if I can get connected to Google services since my wifi indicator turns blue or green (depending on theme/CM7 build used) and Talk and Gmail logs in fine.
On June's gapps, login seems fine: I can browse apps but as soon as I try downloading something, I get stuck at Downloading 0%... and it seems to put the servicee in some sort of bootloop since and other apps icons do not display until I get "Download failed to install - Try again" and click OK. Market will also FC as soon as I select anything from the "Just in" sections.
I've tried clearing Market's cache many times, started Talk, signed out and back in, let my wifi on all night to leave Market to update. I've even created a new gmail account and tried it on yet another fresh install with June gapps; nothing works and this drive me nutts!!
I can go on my desktop, use a VPN service to log in to my Market account and install something from there; it will be pushed on my phone alsmost right away. But again I can't install anything from the phone no matter what.
That would be fine with me, but that means that for any special apps that otherwise would require me to use Market Enabler, I will not be able to do it from the desktop either.
It's not a question of having DroidWall or anything else I've installed blocking something out; like I wrote; I've tried many clean installs without restoring or installing anything...: same.
So, has The Great Firewall" finally caught up to Android Market and stopping use of any Vending.apk from withtin China? Are they recent changes from Google? Or am I having other Market setup/install problems here? What's your take on this?
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help in advance.
Cheers.
And PLEASE do not "full quote" this long post (sorry for that btw) .
Market has been blocked by GFW. I can't access it either unless using VPN.

This sounds not so far fetched..
I live in the US, and I see the same type of behavior at my college.
I can get to the app, but when downloading it sits there for a century.
the idea of censorship isn't something I would blame, nor shrug.
Her are a few things I should try...
Use a spare gmail account to test with, and see if you can reproduce the same results...
Try and use that same vpn, configured through your phone this time, and disable any apn/data settings other than wifi... Now try.
Edit:
P.s. What ROM are you using? The cm team has a stable out now.. Guide that a shot...

My OP was a long one, but I think that i did mention somewhere that I've tried a new gmail account with same result.
My vpn use encryption and will not work on defy ;(
Strangely, from all my recent tries at getting gapps to work properly, it seems that I can only use 2G data to do the first account setup. And that seems to 'work' only with June gapps package.
Recent update (on RC1.5):
I've also managed to get my installed apps listed again by playing around with 2G data and installing and uninstalling a standalone 3.1.3 Vending apk as update and undo it.
I was able to download 2 or 3 apps (out of 50 trials) also by fiddling w data enable/disable.
But again, never before, in 4-5 months using CM7, I had to turn on data past the initial Google setup and I've never had any download issues either....
So i don't think that it's related to TGFW and will keep digging...
On 7.1 now but no change..as
I did flash june gapps w 7.1 but never got any setup to do since no factory reset. Will try a clean install tomorrow or the day after...
Thanks for your reply.
OK I finally got it to work after all.
I just tried to fix the fix the problems caused by the new Superuser update after trying a recent nightly in just the worst possible way over and over.
So what you have to remember is:
1- to NOT signin to your Google account using data and do it over wifi. So select "Skip" on the screen showing "Create an account", "Sign in" or "Skip" and go ahead with other settings: your baseband, wifi and especially turning off "Data enabled".
2- always use the latest gapps version, not the June one like I tried many times
3- Install gapps along with a fresh CM7 zip install; not a nand restoration.
4- after reboot (if needed by Defy Baseband Switcher) just press the Market icon and set up your account then
So wipe data, cache and Dalvik and install CM7 zip (RC1.5 is a good one to start with) and and latest gapps zip and follow the above.
Sorry for this useless thread and for me trying to get this working like a chicken without a head
So @ TimelesslyPrecise: if your downloads do not start, it might as well be because you did setup your account over data the first time.
So just start from scratch again:
- backup your apps [with TB, the newest (and free) Astro file manager or other];
- do a fresh CM7 install (no need to reflash Froyo) but do as above;
- restore your apps;
- then just click on the Market icon and sign in.
Don't worry if at first your apps are not listed under "My apps"; they will eventually come back with usage.
@xcjiang: yeah I knew that, but that doesn't mean that the Market app on the phone doesn't work.
Sorry again about that.
Cheers.
Didn't worked for me...
Instead I found cause and solution elsewhere http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295222
To cut the story short, problem is in way that Market don't get DNS right.
Solution is to install app that will change DNS for every wifi connection DNS to OpenDNS (my choice) or GoogleDNS. I'm using DNS Changer.
Now enjoy superfast Market

[Q] CM 10 Google Play Store refuses to work

Hey guys:
Unlocking and rooting my HTC Wildfire was the second most frustrating experience of my life. However, it's finally over and I flashed CM 10 onto my phone along with 4.1.2 GApps signed (I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878031&highlight=unlocked+bootloader+but+s-on).
Everything seemed to go well, except the Google Play Store doesn't work. It keeps giving me the "Error retrieving information from server. [RH-01]" message. I've also noted that Google Services Framework is NOT installed on my phone. I should note that I have 0 apps installed, meaning I do not have a file manager and there is no file manager/explorer that comes stock as far as I'm aware.
I've looked all over the internet and everything tells me to erase the cache because corrupted data seems to be the most common cause of this error message. This is obviously not the case with my phone. What do I need to do to get this thing to work? I've reflashed the GApps and even flashed a different one. I've tried manually downloading and installing Google Services Framework but it won't install. I've tried moving files around on my SD card (the only thing I can access from my computer) and nothing has worked.
I'm just about at my wit's end here guys. Please help me!
PS. I have a clockworkmod back-up from before my phone was rooted saved onto my computer. However it doesn't have my apps in it so I don't think I can get a file manager from it.
**FIXED**
I feel like an idiot, but the reason it wasn't working was because the CM 10 mod I was trying to install failed to install :S I wrote the warning sign off as something else and didn't read the message it sent me I guess.
ANYWAY I found a fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136011 use the SLIMCM-10 ROM instead and that's what fixed if for me (use all the other downloads he has there too, except for the regular CM10 mod). Thanks for the help that I received, and sorry for being a n00b. Love this community BTW, you guys are the best!
This happened to me the first time I flashed icu's marvelc port of paranoid android...I fixed it by wiping everything and just reflashing the whole rom and gapps. Try that. Tell me if it works.

What to do with my new useless phone

Hi All,
I just bought a phone for my dad in China, since thats where I live and they are cheap here. I ended up choosing a HTC Desire VC (t328d) which are little known outside China and India.
The point is that I can't do anything with it now. I'm taking it back for him in 2 months and using it in the meantime but it does not have any google stuff on it which makes it a bit like a shoe without a sole. I'm not new to this and have messed around with phones before. I have rooted it and unlocked the bootloader. I've tried putting Google Apps on it loads of different ways and nothing works. I've tried putting it on by flashing it with CWM; installing the apk files individually; and copying the files over to system/apps folder (and changing permissions). I've tried several different downloads and they all fail with a parsing error. Anyway the point is it has failed and I've almost given up. There are no custom roms for it outside China so I could put a Chinese one on and try it all again, but Chinese people don't use google much so google stuff is not included in the roms.
Please can anyone offer advice on what to do with an android phone without google on it? are there any apps that offer similar stuff? where can i get apps from without google play store etc? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just annoyed that the new phone is suddenly pretty useless!
Thanks

I also have the TCL P600. I rooted it already and now have it including full gapps. I wait for a multilanguage version now but anyhow it's quite nice now. You can root it like every other MTK6589 phone. Reset button is simply made by holding down power button for more than 5 seconds.
I like the phone since it is rooted and has GAPPS. After rooting just use JB GAPP zip and flash it in CWM. Works great from then on.
Here is the JB gapps zip for flashing with CWM: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zlf4rlbd2rav1nm/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip

that mtk6589 was the signalword for me now.
i have already rooted the device and now i am downloading the gapps file of yours. THX for the upload weimerd.
to install with cwm (which is a new word to me) and also i have never rooted a device really (except with odin)
how to install this gapps on the tcl600 ? dual sim will work after as well right?
put the downloaded zip on SD-card.
Power-off the phone.
Power on again while holding power and volume"+" button.
You will boot up into the cwm if you got root on the phone on right way.
- optional: I suggest to make a factory reset now from the menu before installing gapps. But it's not necessary.
Choose "Install zip from sdcard" (choose with power-button, up and down with volume buttons in menu) and install the gapps zip you downloaded.
Reboot the phone and see the gapps
DualSim works perfectly. This is not connected to gapps etc. So it's just that you added all google applications to the phone so you can use your google account, use wheather and news etc.
To really root the phone see here:
TCL P600 root package: http://www.4shared.com/zip/3HRtqraE/TCL_P600_Root.html
HowTo Root TCL P600:
- Extract the file
- Start the flash tool in extracted folder
- Make sure under options it is choosen “with battery”
- In FlashTool load scatter file contained in folder
- Click checkboxes of BOOTIMG and RECOVERY
- Doubleclick on BOOTIMG and refer to TCL-P600_130417__boot_patched_130508-162244.img
- Doubleclick on RECOVERY and refer to TCL-P600_130417__recovery_130508-162244.img
- Switch off mobile and unplug it from usb
- Click “download” in flash tool
- Plug in usb in phone
- If you get a green circle from flash tool saying OK you’re ready with root shell
- Unplug phone and reboot into CWM
- Start Droidtools and plugin usb to phone again
- Install superuser of your choice into phone.
- Ready – you have full root to phone.
If you experience any problems please check if you used the right drivers. Please check drivers attached in folders. Only use them.
I'm not responsible for your phone. If you brick it you have a bricked phone Nevertheless: This worked fine for me and a lot of others.

Hi Weimerd,
i have followed your steps, but some things seem not to be so clear to me. I really want this to work and i see i am close to the final solution, THANKS to your help here.
here is what i have done so far.
1. the device was rooted, i had SU installed (with the usual mt6589_rooter) and booted in CWM, the installation of the zip file from sd started, but was aborted. tried it a couple of times, but result was the same
2. so i decided the facotry reset
to follow your rooting instruction in order to make the rest of the steps happening.
1. downloaded and extraced your file.
2. my phone is connected, i start the flash tool and to as per your instructions

3. when i say download i get the message that there might be some issues with the booting (see picture 2)
4. so i am thinking maybe all is ok, but the drivers are the problem, i checked the device manager and tried to update the driver (which windows seven said all drivers are up to date) see picture 3 and 4
-
tried the same thing again, switched off my phone before i press download, unplugged it, and then pressed download and re-attached the phone in the switched off mode, drivers are trying to install, this time it is unseccessful, but also here i cant install any driver.
any idea what i am possibly doing wrong here ??

First of all make sure you switched on USB debugging (in phone settings). Then uninstall any existing driver which may be there. Install only the ones in package.
With the mentioned drivers all should work.
Then make sure you follow the points make sure your phone is not connected to usb and is switched off. Then press "download"-Button and plugin the phone.
At that point normally the phone is beeing recognized by windows the first time asking for a driver. Look into device manager if it is so. Uninstall any existing other driver there for your phone and clean install only the driver in the package.
I see in device manager screenshot one unknown device. Please also check this.
I only have Windows8 here. Don't know if it's same with Win7 but should be. What error is showing when trying to install the driver?
By the way: No problem with the booting issue message of flashtool, you can ignore this.
here is gapps for JB uploaded by me to make sure nothing goes wrong: http://www.4shared.com/zip/apWjF47r/gapps_JellyBean.html

Never had that issue. Maybe it is because I upgraded the firmware already with tcl updater before. I suggest to do so, you can re-root it and put gapps on it now
I suggest installing another keyboard. Download one with computer, put apk on sd-card and install it through file manager. Should work
Yeah Weimerd.
done that now, thanks again. but google play is stopping after signing in.
maybe i will do the tcl update after a factory reset and give it once more a try.
if i do facotry reset all will go back as it used to be?
factory reset will most probably not delete root. So just do factory reset and delete dalvik cache (under advanced). Then install gapps zip again. Then reboot. Should work then
I checked this once more.
1. First of all I updated the phone with TCL updater to the latest firmware.
2. I rooted it as I described before.
3. I deleted lots of China Apps and also under system/media bootup sounds and some - for me - other stuff not needed in order to get more space on system partition.
4. I installed GAPPS through CWM. I did it with this one: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
After rebooting I also got the crash of google search. I ignored it and added my google account. After opening playstore then I got update for google search. After updating there is no crashing anymore.
All other gapps are working quite well. I tested GPS for the TCL P600 and was really suprised it works quite fast and accurate.
The only thing: There is no A-GPS setting. Let's say: There is no GPS setting at all. You can only switch GPS on and off. Settings are not included. Maybe this will be unlocked with a modded rom.
I'm now testing all functions in detail but up to now it works really great.
Hope you got it also up to this point. After all steps this phone is really perfect.
yes, but i am still struggeling to remove the root, i cleared the dalvik chache, reinstalled everything.
i cant access my google account nor the playstore.
the tcl updater isnt available. or can you show me the icon ?
i think best would be to remove the root and factory reset then and then go ahead and do it all once more.

just try to make your own rom with those existing china roms and roms with google apps.. it is simple, follow this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113479
You may download the TCL updater from here: http://www.tclmobile.com.cn/productsview.php?catid=36&id=462
This is a windows tool for updating your tcl P600. It makes no difference if you decide for P600 or P606, the same firmware will be loaded. The tool will to all flashing, so it's very simple. Just download, install and run the tool, follow the steps and you get a flahed phone. Don't forget to save your data as all will be lost after flashing.
Also root will be gone after flashing with that tool.

It's not as simple as you say. The main problem is that there is no stock rom available as basis. But nevertheless I'll take a shorter look to that

1. I have downloaded and installed the tcl updater, it updated the software, the root was gone.
2. then i updated all software with the tcl updater on the phone. software available was still 4.1.2
3. rooted the phone
4. installed the gapps
(there i noticed that its installing 4.2.2 apps)
keyboard is crashing, google play store crashing. same problem as before as i can see it
i will reset it once more and then hope for a final try when i am in the mood again. i sort loosing it over this tclp600, but its such a nice phone.
i like everything about it so far.
just this inability to use it with google standard apps

Essentially, what is happening is that the Android Auto app itself will work with two and only two apps. They are Google Maps and Google Play Music.
My problem is, none, and I truly do mean no other 3rd party apps will work with Android Auto.
I should also restate that this is a problem with the Android Auto app itself, so let's pretend no head unit or car is involved. This can be replicated on just the phone.
Here's the behavior:
-Open android auto
-Open any 3rd party app (Let's say IheartRadio)
Either one of two things happen next:
-Instantly get a screen that says "IHeartRadio Doesn't Seem to Be Working"
OR
-IHeartRadio starts like it should, and is able to play music for about 15 seconds, and then I get "Doesn't seem to be working" screen
-This happens for every 3rd party app, not just IHeart, but Plex, TuneIn, Radio Scanner, EVERYTHING except Google Play Music and Google Maps.
I should also state that Android Auto and 3rd party apps worked without a hitch, absolutely flawlessly in Nougat.
And, I've asked around the OP5t forums here and nobody is having the same problem.
-------
What I've tried so far (And hasn't worked)
-Re installing Android Auto
-Re installing every 3rd party app and re-trying
-Installing a custom ROM (Oreo) (Same exact behavior right after factory reset flashing new rom )
-Tried installing 3rd party apps from a non google play source
-Flashing OOS 8.0 Stable, as well as OB4 thru factory wipes
What I haven't tried:
-Re-locking the bootloader and flashing back to OOS nougat (Would this even help?)
I'm totally at wits end here, folks. I bought the OP5t to accompany my new car as my old phone couldn't handle android auto, this is one of the most imporatnt features to me.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Would flashing back to nougat and locking the bootloader like the phone was brand new help me? I've never seen such a problem that persists through clean flashes.
Thank you kindly everyone,
Hey!
I had this exact same problem.
I managed to solve this.
I am on OOS Open Beta 4.
Install latest:
Android Auto:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/
Android System Webview:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-system-webview/
Google Maps:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/maps/maps-9-74-0-release/
Google App:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-search/google-search-7-23-24-release/
Google Play Services:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-12-2-21-release/
After installing all the apps, reboot your phone.
Android auto should work smooth again!
Just FYI, the bootloader status (locked/unlocked) has nothing to do with this.

Hey there, first and foremost, thank you so much for taking time to respond! I tried your suggestion, but I'm still not having any luck
I'm going to keep messing around with it, but thank you again for the reply.

Ohh that is really weird. Make sure you install all the Google Beta apps, and also the latest Android Auto version.
Are you using the Red Dash cable?

Yes, I'm using the dash cable that came with the phone, but this problem is isolated within the android auto app. I don't need to connect it to the car to get the issues I'm having. Just launching the app on the phone itself and starting up a 3rd party app will trigger the "seems to not be working" screen.
If I connect it to the car, the same behavior happens. No issue with the connection to the car since I'm still able to use Maps and Play.
I'm considering flashing back to nougat to see if it works and OTA'ing til I get stable 8.0 and dirty flashing OB4 today.
UPDATE!!!
I got it working, and how I fixed it was a total PITA, but it works and I'm on OOS OB4.
Here's what I did:
1. Download the first available nougat OOS and flash it. Factory wipe from stock recovery. Once booted, install android auto and 3rd party apps. Test if it works, if so...
2. Sign in google account and update to 5.0.4 via OOS updater
3. Once rebooted into 5.0.4, take OB4 and stick it onto root, and reboot to recovery again
4. I dirty flashed OB4 over 5.0.4 and it seems to work fine!
I haven't tested this in my car yet, I will be on a long drive tomorrow and update results.
Waze on android auto
Waze is working parallel to google Maps without any problems. When you open navigate both programs are shown.
Damn I just noticed it. My maps work but I tried to open Google play music and got the same error.
That was the one thing that consistently worked for me. Which rom are you on?

Lineage OS 16.0 Setup Wizard won't finish

Keeps resetting at the Bring your data from... step.
Whether I tap 'Don't Copy' or 'A backup from the cloud'. It attempts it, then just goes back to the same screen. Then after a second or third attempt it says Android Setup keeps stopping and I can only close the app.
Everything seems to be fine though, I can use my phone like normal. Just every time I pull down notifications, there is that bug blue notification that I need to continue with Setup.
I installed the mini MindTheGapps package if that could have anything to do with it.
Should I just reset everything and start over? Dont want to if possible since I have set up everything else at this point heh...
I have read other threads about this issue over the years but nothing has seemed to help.
Not sure if relevant but this in on a Oneplus One
Thank you all.
Thats a GApps issue. I don't use that Google APPs
The only solution I've seen to that is reinstall LOS (and twrp 3.3.3 if you want), reboot to recovery, install gapps, reboot to system. I believe I got that flow from one of the install guides.
I'm going to assume you also didn't get the full google login experience setting language and account and all that jazz either.
I've had to do the same as above for a LOS update too which is a bit annoying. But I have not experimented too much.
