I have 30mbps down and 2mbps internet package
im getting between 16mbps and 20mbps down and 2mbps to 3mbps up.
my laptop with built-in wireless card gets pretty much the same but when i use my usb wifi adapter (linksys in 2.4ghz mode) it gets 30mbps down and close to the same upload.
my router is a belkin n300 share with stock belkin firmware
so i know the router can do 30mbps over wifi as my linksys usb wifi adapter proves that.
just wondering why my laptop AND GS3 only get about 20mbps consistantly over wifi....
anyone do a test on their S3 over "WIFI" and see what they get or tell me what is wrong with my laptop and s3?
the router can not do 5ghz it is only capeable of 2.4ghz and b/g/n with 20mhz/40mhz bandwith
when i use that linksys usb wifi adapter its really working good but im surprised the GS3 is not, the laptop i could even understand getting the 20mbps (wireless-n 1030 built-in)
it dont seem like any setting i make really changes the speed for the laptop or the phone
suggestions would be great

yep
i pick the servers with speedtest app
im picking the same exact server i get 30mpbs with my linksys usb adapter
just wanted to note:
when using iPerf (only checking b/w over the lan) i get about 10mbps from s3 to laptop wireless n 1030 buitlin
when hooking laptop straight to router with lan cord and run iperf i get the same 20mbps on the s3
there is something wrong with the wifi in the S3 i believe
could be

how about someone here verify this is a problem i found
tell me what you get. im sure you are gonna check if you have a fast connection to the internet over wifi
ask someone to do a speed test over wifi and no one wants to take the time to do it?
takes a few mins
Nope my laptop and gs3 get the same speeds. In also have 30mbps down and 5 upload

The USB WiFi adapter are far more advanced an faster than that of a phone or laptop its not a modem issue or device issue its just simply the WiFi adapters inside our devices i have a similar issue where i have a 35mbs plan and i only got around 15-20mbs i upgraded my router and now i nearly achieve my 35mbs mark but no matter what router you get if you use Ethernet or a USB WiFi card the internet will be faster because generally computers interpret internet faster over a hard connection vs a wireless connection where u still loose around 5-10mbs the only possible solution is maybe invest in a different router with the option to direct more bandwidth via WiFi or change your WiFi broadcast frequency to only one type or frequency weather it be 801.11n or 802.11g or 802.11b choose ONE that is fastest not all 3 or which ever you have because that generally slows your internet by great amounts as well

why exactly do the phone (gs3 in this case) and the laptop (built-in intel wireless-n 1030) get the same speeds?
with wireless-n (even at 2,4) single antenna it should get close to 150mbps (theorectical)
wireless G = 54mbps in actuality it is around 20mbps which is what im getting and yep i checked both the laptop and the gs3 show as wireless n connections
you made an interesting point about putting the router in a single mode like "N" and i have tried that but both the laptop and the phone will not connect unless i put the router in b/g/n mode
the linksys usb adapter will connect ok with the router in wireless "N" mode
i am running latest belkin firmware for my f7d3302 router
Because its a wireless signal most devices interpret signals much better through Ethernet or USB just because it cant capture the signal fast enough and long enough to keep it stable enough to stay at the same speed the router is broadcasting at sure enough the router is broadcasting at a stable speed but the device wont capture it fast enough the only solution i found is what i mentioned to either get a router which makes a more stronger secure signal or broadcast at only one frequency and the s3 should capture N maybe try changing from 2.4 to 5.0 and try N again otherwise there might be a hardware issue because i use my router at 2.4 with 801.11n on channel 10 and my internet is almost as fast as Ethernet and far longer range

was able to put router in wireless n mode only (2.4ghz) by enabling "802.11e/WMM QoS"
now laptop with built-in nic and s3 can both connect at wireless n only
the laptop speed did jump up to what the hard wire ethernet cable AND linksys usb wifi are getting
they are all getting 28mbps (within a 1mbps deviation)
the phone is still stuck at 18-22mbps.
daniel4653
so the phone can actually get over 22mbps in "WIFI" mode?
are you on 5ghz N or 2.4ghz N?
would like to add
iperf from the phone to the laptop (builtin nic) is now getting 25mbps in multiple runs
this is on the local lan only in wireless N mode (2.4ghz) with 20/40 enabled in router
so this is a big improvement over the 7-10mbps i was getting earlier but the wifi connected to net is still 20mbps

With phones there is a bigger difference because they're might be many factors like the modem the type of WiFi chip the size of the chip range and capability also what ROM your running just too much that might vary but on my phone on average i get around 20mbs it seems to me there's a 10mbs variation because at work we have a 100mbs connection and i get around 85mbs i believe the s3 maxes out at 100 but to reach that you have to have some fast internet and either a gaming router or a business router
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
on wireless n (2.4ghz) it should connect the "link speed" at 150mbps
when its at 150mbps this indicates "Channel Bonding" is working
im getting 72mbps and i had been reading other cellphone that had similar problems @ 75mbps
to my understanding the phones were not channel bonding correctly.
i have had 3-4 people saying all kinds of stuff without really saying anything scientific.
i could have done that too but instead i knew there was a real problem
i kept digging and am sharing my experience as i find out what is really going on.
to check your "link speed" you can long press on your wifi connection and then go advance and scroll down and it should show it.
you can also get wifi analyzer and change the view and then select your connection
from what it looks like this galaxy s3 and my belkin n300 share router are not getting along.
i need another router to see if that is the problem or if it is really my phone and the software its running.
if other people with their devices would post your findings here it would be great
thanks

i take it that is at 5ghz and link speed is at 150
what is the fastest speeds you can get in wifi with only 2.4ghz?
40/50 is at 5ghz never tried setting the router to board cast 2.4ghz only. Is that the case why I do not see speeds higher then 40/50 on my S3. Never really thought about it

if you try to put your router at 2.4ghz (wireless n with 20/40) and connect your phone at "link speed 150mbps" you might still get that same 40/50
if your "link speed = 72mbps" like mine you will probably only get 20mbps down and prob same thing up
im pretty curious as it does seem like your phone and internet is working correctly
Hi everyone,
I have my Nexus 7 connected to a Linksys WRT160N router with tomatoRAF firmware installed. This router+firmware+configuration setup was the best I could do without constant dropping of connection or not connecting at all, but still at very slow speed of 0,5 - 1,5 MB/s (average is more around 0,6) when copying files on local network (SMB) with ES File Explorer. Which is good enough for web surfing and emails, but not enough for IPTV and youtube (youtube works, but i have to wait for it a lot).
So far i have tried numerous configurations of my router, nothing works. I tried other routers, 9 to be exact, but i have never seen more than 2MB/s.
Now i'm thinking about buying new router, and I want to know what wifi speeds do you get with which router.
thanks
Hi,
what's your net speed? mine is 26 mbit/s and this is what i get. however, IF you stream sound with BT/have any BT service up and running and your wifi runs at 2.4ghz it is highly probable the two (bt and wifi) interfere. This was the problem i had and which i found out after buying soundbar which links with its subwoofer via BT(BT butchered my wifi, i was scoring 1mbit to up to 26). I have switched to dual band modem/router (tp link td-w8980). now, i have two WiFi networks at my place, one which runs at 2.4ghz and the second at 5ghz. the 5ghz is used only by my nexus :]
N7 2013, Buffalo N300 router, Verizon FiOS 75/25. The router is dual channel, but not dual band: 2.4GHz only.

I had throughput issues with a Linksys WRT54GL and Tomato, was not a configuration problem. Loved the way Tomato worked, how it looked, it's options... but in the end, all I really cared about was throughput. Are you able to replicate the throughput issue on stock router firmware? You said you tried other routers. All the same model (RMA)?
Tell me more about your connectivity issues.
If you've used different routers from different manufacturers (with their respective stock firmware), then it's probably a problem with your tablet.

I had this throughput issue from the day I received my nexus 7 (2013), with stock firmware on router. But with stock firmware, the connection would drop randomly (from 5 minutes to 12 hours) and to reconnect i had to restart the router and nexus - this was corrected only with this firmware TomatoRAF (i tried dd-wrt and 2 more tomato firmwares - all kept disconnecting). I never had this throughput issue with any laptop, only this nexus.
The other routers i tried were all different routers, but all at least 3 years old.
Another information: friends nexus 7 (2013) WIFI, flo, also had same speeds on my router.
today i will try to test a few phones and a laptop on my router and will post results as soon as i can
32gb lte model, I use an Asus ac66u and Comcast 105\25 Mbps. 5ghz WiFi gets me 90 Mbps down and 22-30 up, 55 Mbps down and 22-30 up on 2.4 GHz.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
This is what i get (copying files from server with es file explorer):
nexus 7 2013 (kitkat) - 760kB/s
1st xperia ray (kitkat) - 750kB/s
2nd xperia ray (jellybean) - 530kB/s
xperia mini pro (jellybean) - 560kB/s
galaxy s4 mini - 1070kB/s
laptop - 6500kB/s
I used to get 10MB/s+ on my laptop with original linksys firmware, but now i configured router to be more "reliable" and i would be more than happy if nexus had 6,5MB/s connection.
I attached some info about router configuration. If there is an "expert" reading this willing to help, i can post more complete configuration.

Considering how inexpensive it was I"m extremely happy with the TP-Link WR1043ND that I use. With aftermarket antennas I bought as an experiment and the current firmware installed signal strength through walls and general performance is great. I thought about installing third-party firmware on it when I first got it a couple years ago but see no need. For the package I have from Comcast they advertise I think 25 Mbps down and 5Mbps up and I usually see 28/6. If you haven't already done so make sure your router is using the best channel for your location. Also, I see a lot of people move off of channels 1, 6 and 11 which can make them see/cause more bleedover from/to adjacent channels. You can see that in my screenshot with networks MercedesBenz and Sandvik. I live in a house but the effect in an apartment or condo would be worse. I also use a repeater because my router is at the opposite end of the house from my backyard patio and this house has insulated steel siding. Wifi Analyzer is a free app and works great to figure out what channel would work best for you.
Also in the N7's wifi advanced settings I use "2.4 GHz only" which seems to make it reconnect faster when waking up the device because I also use "only when plugged in" during sleep.

I haven't had any problems. All my large lan transfers are done over Ethernet cat 6. If it can pull down 90mbps from wan to wlan on two phones and a tablet, well then there's your sign lol. All these speeds are on n WiFi, I haven't even tried ac because all my machines that need all available bandwidth are hardwired. The router hasn't even required rebooting unless one counts firmware updates and such. Hardline lan to lan is right about 100 MB/s.there's an even faster model out called the ac68u but it's significantly more expensive.

I have the 32GB LTE version... Using an Asus RT-N66U as my access point...
On 2.4 ghz I get 22.5 mbps down and 7.5 mbps up*
On 5 gzh I get 68.4 mbps down and 11.5 mbps up... which is the max speeds I see from my ISP.
*note: there are about 18 strong 2.4 ghz networks visible at my location (surrounded by apartment buildings). 2.4 ghz performance consistently suffers with this level of interference across all of my connected devices.
As far as the RT-N66U goes... I'm very happy with it's performance and range of signal. I was a long time WRT54G user with tomato. This matches almost perfectly.
My Wi-Fi is slow, 2.4GHz 140Mbps connection, this phone only gets 50Mbps. Tried on different 2.4GHz router, its the same. My P9 Lite and Asus laptop get 100/140Mbps respectively.
Is there a way to solve this without buying a 5GHz router?

Hello There
I have been using the G7 for two days but here is the problem.
it connects to 2.4Ghz networks fine but the range is very limited when I move to another room wifi reception decreases a lot. However my wife`s S9+ and my oneplus 6 works fine.
Main problem is when I connect to 5Ghz network it starts disconnecting and reception is even worse than 2.4Ghz still S9 and Oneplus is connects fine at 5Ghz
I tried to change thE 5ghz channels on the router but no luck and I exclude the WIFI from battery saving apps still didn`t work.
I have to use 2.4Ghz and the reception is not as good as other phones
Any recommendations?
Thank you
Hi all,
I've recently purchased 2x Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro's and I've noticed that the WiFi link speeds are hilariously slow for such a modern phone.
2.4g seems to be limited to a max 72mpbs and 5g is limited to 433mbps. Now, before you say 'it's your router grumblegrumble' it isn't. It's a VMG3925-B10B and its capable of much faster wifi link speeds and I know it is because my older LeEco LEMax 2 got a lot more, so do my laptops, and Ipad. Even my 10 year old Dell 1520 gets faster than 72mbps.
So, now that is out of the way, what on earth is going on? I'm certain that this modern phone must be able of quicker wifi speeds especially considering it's reliant on wifi for connectivity?
I've tried entering the mediatek engineering mode on the phone but can't get into the wifi options (wifi needs to be off, operated too much, constant search on etc) which are all set correct but still doesn't let me in.
Any ideas because this is going to bug the hell out of me. 5G is fine but it's still not acceptable.
Well I have on my router about 36MB/s on 5Ghz.
Redmi Note 8 Pro should also support simultaneously connection on 2,4 and 5 GHz WiFi. But not enabled right now for some reasons.

Unfortunately your speed test doesn't mean squat because it's only testing your broadband connection. Not the WiFi link speed between your device and router.
It doesn't seem like there's any extended bandwidth capabilities?

Who was using Bluetooth while using WiFi?
I watch youtube with BT earphones for example, internet is god damned slow, 144p loads for minutes even on 4G... That seems to be a problem of software. Disconnecting BT brings internet back
On a redmi note 8 miui 12 try this: go to settings/location and turn off wifi and bluetooth scanning
