Remove ".com" key from samsung stock keyboard - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hi. Does anyone have an idea how to remove the ".com" key the samsung keyboard shows when inside a browser app. It's quite annoying and doesn't really give that much convenience when surfing. I mean, who actually types full web addresses these days when you can just do a google search. It just takes up space and more often than not i would hit it accidentally instead of the space button which is really annoying.
I could always go with google keyboard or swiftkey but i really prefer using the stock keyboard. It would be perfect if there is a way to remove this button.
Thanks and keep safe xda!

Did you ever find a way to remove the .com key?

Pretty sure this would require decompiling, modification and recompiling of the files in the APK.
No other way exists that I am aware of that removes that button from the keyboard.

Found this post looking for a solution, but found one myself. In goodlock, download the Samsung app Keys Cafe. Copy the default keyboard, stretch your space bar and save.
When you go into chrome, the www button is gone.

Brilliant. Thank you so much.

Mine doesn't do that on Pie unless I'm punching in an address. It's automatic and quite handy.

HTC Keyboard - Froyo

Hi all,
maybe this has been addressed somewhere already, but I haven't found it.
In stock Eclair there was a "hide" button on the onscreen keyboard. In all of the Sense Froyo ROMs I've used, there is a "change keyboard layout/language" button instead. Now if I want to hide the keyboard (e.g. to access controls that are under it) I have to either push the menu button or click somewhere outside a text control. This approach is rather clumsy, the "hide" button was much more useful.
Is there a way to restore this "hide" button? Or does someone has an apk of the Eclair sense keyboard that would work with Froyo?
Thanks
I think you need to search for HTC ime mod. HTC keyboard for stock android.
Push the back button and the keyboard disappears
I do know what Sigismund83 means and it's quite frustrating, I've only just got used to hiding the Keyboard by using the back button, but I wish there was a quick-hide button like there was prior to upgrading to Froyo. I've even had a dabble in the Android's keyboard, but the keyboard is too tall and when I'm creating an sms, I'd like to read over what I had prior and it's difficult to do so.
Gonna check out HTC IME Mod to see if that's any good.
Actually perfect! I've got it exactly how I want it after a few minutes of faffing about..
Sigismund83, you can download the keyboard from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416
And the settings I use to make it look like Stock IME are as follows..
I deselected "Show candidates bar" and got rid of the "Smiley hack" within the User Interface by [email protected] and it was perfect.
Hope this helps
Oh and before I forget, if you've got Dropbox, best thing to do is upload the apks there then use the Dropbox app to download and the phone will prompt to install. But if you're not lazy (unlike me), just shove them on the memory card and install with ASTRO.

This sure works too, but I'll look for the apk anyway. I was kinda used to this button (similar was also in WinMo devices). But I might as well change my habits
Worked

Changing Bluetooth keyboard keys

Hello all. I recently got the Bluetooth Motorola Keyboard and I was wondering if anyone would be able to explain how to change any of the hardware keys on the keyboard to open an application. Thanks in advance.
any ideas?/shameless bump
At this time there is no way to change any of the keys. There are people working on this at this time but so far nothing has come out of it. I have the same keyboard but haven't found any need to change anything. What are you trying to do?
I like the keyboard I just wish the messaging button was mapped and be able open the process list (last 5 apps running)
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I hope somebody figures something out with this. (I was just Google searching for something on this, found nothing and figured we'd have something here on the subject.) The messaging button for example, does nothing. If it atleast opened Google Talk that would make things easier. Would make my usual Talk/Browser/Gmail switching much easier when using the keyboard.
And being able to change the contacts key to something else wouldn't be awful either. I don't think I've ever used contacts on my Xoom besides looking at it once and noting a pretty interface. So many other apps would be more useful.
I may be able to help with this. Can someone zip and post up your "/system/usr/keylayout" and "/system/usr/keychars" directories and post them up?
You should not have a /data/usr/keychars and /data/usr/keylayout directories, but give me a copy of those as well if they exist!
Still need those files if you will please good sirs.
I have no idea how to find the files you need. I plugged in my Xoom but I could never get into the system files. I R DUM
here they are
I came across this in the AOSP dev site http://source.android.com/porting/keymaps_keyboard_input.html#androidKeymapKeyLayoutMapTitle
I checked out my system/usr/keylayout/ folder and it shows 3 vendor layout files. i'm guessing those are the moto keyboard.
It looks like it can be done. Although the your xoom would have to be rooted to push a modded file.
looks like someone fixed this!

What about generic bluetooth keyboards? I've seen that many for example use Apple keyboards. I was thinking about getting a generic bt keyboard from eBay and remap the keys. Is there any chance that can be done?

No they didn't fix it. All they did was show how to change what was in the config files for the keyboards and add a WAKE function to an existing button function in order to wake the tablet with the keyboard.
What it looks like is being asked here is how to remap the default application buttons on the motorola keyboard (ie,.. messaging, browser, music, etc). The messaging button does nothing on the Xoom since it can't send text messages and the button was really meant to perform this function on the Atrix. There has also been questions as to how you could remap the browser button to another browser since setting the default browser to something other than the chrome one does nothing.
I've looked over that entire file and not once in there did it show a mapping for those keys to their respective functions. The function buttons have settings there, but I don't know if changing those would have any affect.
Anyone???
in case anyone didn't know, you can press the "search" key + a letter to open up applications. For example, "search" + T opens up Google Talk.

A bit late to reply, but maybe this can help you.
As 'gadgetluva' already mentioned, you can use the "search" key + a letter to launch some applications.
Previous versions of android allowed you to change the assignment of these in the settings. But somehow that option is gone in Honeycomb. The code to do it is still in there, but I didn't find any UI entry to it in the settings.
But, there is a dirty work around if you really want to change them. The application Task Switcher (there are multiple ones, I'm talking about the one from Jason Parekh) can be downloaded for free from the market. It's a nice and useful application, but you can also use it to open the hidden "Quick Launch" settings dialog. You do that by going to the settings of Task Switcher and choose Shortcut. That will open the "Quick Launch" settings dialog. In there you can (re-)assign the "search" key shortcuts at will.
It's a bit involved, but you only have to do this once ...
PS: Once you have Task Switcher installed, you can as well bind it to a key your not using with the free application exsbar. That way you also have a quick shortcut to switch between the running applications. A little bit like the Alt-Tab in windows.

Jellybean Calendar colour and keyboard - horrible

I've just updated to 4.1.2, and there's no option I can find to change the colour of the calendar. I hate the light background, I'm used to black background with white text, easier to read. Is there anything out there I can use?
edit: sorry, keyboard isn't horrible, I've found the swype keyboard which is what I'm used to But there doesn't seem to be the single word delete function anymore with the click after deleting any words in a sentence? It just deletes the letters in succession so you can't delete complete words with one click.
edit2: well I can do it in 2 steps. swype key highlights word then backspace key deletes it.
Doing a quick google search gave me this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183408
I suggest doing a google search yourself as there are several different versions of dark gapps available around the internet.
As for your keyboard, perhaps try out TouchPal Keyboard:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en
It's a free app, and it has a slide left on the backspace key to delete a word feature.
Cheers.

Will check them out, thanks.
By the way, I just found a post of the exact same problem I'm trying to solve with word deleting.
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...o-delete-the-entire-word-when-the-delete-butt
The solution given of swiping right to left over the home rows of the keyboard doesn't work. Has anyone else done this with any success? It really seems odd to me that they would have removed the ability to do this.
As far as I know, Swype didn't have a swipe to delete feature...perhaps what the user is talking about is TouchPal? I've never seen another keyboard have this feature, I could be wrong though. Have you tried it out?
I haven't tried touch pal yet but definitely will do.
Tbh, I'm not sure the word deletion function was specific to swype enabled keyboards, it probably did it on non swype enabled too. Although I used swype all the time, I used to just hold the delete button down for a bit longer and it would delete entire words one after the other with a click after each word. So I wasn't swyping to delete but just pressing the delete button, yet sadly that feature seems to have gone now apart from the first and last words. Imo there's a few features in jellybean that are a step backwards from previous android versions.

Smart keyboard issue

Ok here goes,
I have the keyboard set so I have the buttons configured below
clipboard , ? Spacebar return
Now if I go in the browser it changes
Cog / spacebar . .com go
Now I understand that there probably more relevant than my setup but I want my setup, does anyone know how to change this or hack it, it's driving me mental as when I use the browser keyboard my searches look like this how.many.apples.are.in.a.bunch as the space bar is smaller and I keep hitting the . button #annoying
Any help welcome
im having the same problem, it seems it is normal(?)
akso, are you having this issue aswell:http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/problem-lgs-keyboard-t2833907
I do not know as I never use it, but I cant see how this is ok why bother giving you the option,

Add a calculator to the Qslide quick app drawer.

In the settings menu, there is an option to rearrange the soft touch buttons at the bottom of the device. I've tested out the gesture type nav bar and find it to be less useful than a traditional button array, but of course, individual milage may vary.
However, in the options, there are some additional buttons that can be added. Most notably, a little "crosshair" looking button (which I've stuck conveniently between the "home" circle button and "app switcher" square button. This button opens a little quick drawer with a handful of useful apps, but in not finding a way to edit this list. However, if you download and install the LG Calculator, at https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0UKZBoopyRhanNQQzR2V1hTeUU/view?usp=drivesdk, it will automatically be added to this list. Quite handy, if you're using this Qslide drawer.

Thx, Dathaniel!
Any ideea why it looks a little weird?
I mean streched
Here's another handy in that can be added to the Qslide drawer, a web viewer that can pop out like a window:
https://m.cafe.naver.com/ArticleRead.nhn?clubid=23704855&articleid=710459
It should be noted, I had a hell of a time getting this to download. There's a download link at the bottom of the article for the apk. When you click it, it resets you too the top of the page. I just had to keep scrolling down and clicking it, eventually it downloaded. I'll try to post the apk on a friendlier file hosting site tomorrow, if I have time.
It seems like there is also a basic Memo app that can be added, but I'm still digging around on Korean internets for it.

No idea. Mine looks the same though. Functions just fine. In fact, I think that it having the parentheses button is actually a really cool feature.
So, this web viewer
The web viewer I linked is a little funky. Its homepage is the search engine "Naver" which is SK's popular search provider. The language for the browser is Korean, and I'm still digging around for a way to add a translation, or set the default language to English. As it is, searching for Google brings you back to normal, Western internet pretty quick, but I'd like to find a way to set the homepage to Google or something.
I'll let you guys know what I come up with.
Thanks really appreciated!

Boom. Here's a QSlide notepad, which automatically appears in your QSlide Drawer when installed.

I found the QSlide notes app. It was hiding right under my nose.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zero.qslide.notes
Installing this adds qNotes to the qSlide drawer to quickly take notes, which can then be reviewed later in the ordinary QMemo+ app.
Next up, I'm looking for a quick torch, and a map for the qSlide drawer. After taking out the defunct TV app, that will give a complete set of 12 qSlide apps.
Quick Torch
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yoavst.quicktorch
Appears in the qSlide Drawer, helpfully. Unhelpfully, it doesn't illuminate the camera's flash LED, just lights the screen up white.
I miss QVoice floating in qslide
