Anyone having odd Samsung Keyboard errors? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Ever since the update to One UI 2.1 where I think the Samsung Keyboard got updated, I've been having horrible typing experience. The word prediction and auto-correct are broken. Example, I am trying to type "Pork" and it auto-corrects to "Prom"

Yes!... For some reason I keep getting "ication" just added at total random. I've even cleared the keyboard and reset it. Not sure why

Can't stand the Samsung keyboard.. have trouble with it in two languages.. on Gboard, and all is well .

Same here. I switched to the Google Keyboard because I could not take it anymore.

They updated it to be able to write in multiple language without having to switch.
But i agree, i got some issue like suggesting a single word with the same but with a second word "br" after, which is none of any kind.
After some "practice" though, I got less strange things.

Mine was completely unusable and had to go to Gboard for now.

Sam sung keyboard errors are difficult to overcome

How is it better on Gboard? It states on Google playstore: "Multilingual typing – No more switching between languages manually. Gboard will auto-correct and suggest from any of your enabled languages."
I hate having suggestions from both languages at the same time, even though I switch between them. I wish there was a fix for it.

Well, it takes one click on the 'globe' to switch between languages, suggestions come for the current language only, and while not perfect, Google offers a far better and closer suggestions to what I try to type than Sammi keyboard does. I do admit I haven't got Sammi a chance to improve, I type tons in my phone and can't be a their tester, not when I pay $1,000 on a phone..

Yes, I have troubles too either with French or English. I came back to my old "Swype+Dragon" keyboard - unfortunatly no longer available for new users.

[Q] Blackberry-esque type dictionary

I am wondering if there is a way to get a blacberry like dictionary for android. For instance when I had a blackberry I could type GM and when I hit the space bar the dictionary would automatically change it to Good Morning. Is there any way that this can happen with the Android operating system?

Not that I know of. The dictionary, voice recognition, and keyboard logic pretty much suck ass on Android.

+1 to that. Stock keyboard blows.
Try Swiftkey. I'm not sure if it can change just GM to good morning, but the prediction is excellent.

I kinda just gave up looking. I'm not one of those guys always on the hunt for something new for my phone. I just want to get used to it and have it work. If BlackBerry ever got that crap together, I'd jump ship back there. What BlackBerry does good, they do better than anyone else. Keyboards, keyboard logic, dictionaries, email, security... Can't be beat. Too bad what they do good is a list about as long as what I just described. But that browser is coming along. If they'd get serious about screens, that new Torch 9850/9860 isn't a bad device.

Yeah for the the time that I had my blackberry I loved it, then it started crashing and running really slow so I jumped ship. I did love BBM and their dictionary though and the email was really nice as well.

I've tried Swiftkey and while it does predict words better than most keyboards, there is something about it that makes me not want to use it. I don't mind the keyboards so much as I mind not being able to manipulate the dictionary to be smart enough to allow values (is that the right term?) in the dictionary. Maybe I'll never find what I am looking for but again thank you guys for your input.

A better auto-correction keyboard needed!

Cant front, autocorrection on the stock keyboard sucks majorly. Is there an option to turn up the level of auto correction or do you guys know of a better keyboard? Im thinking of installing the LatinIME gingerbread keyboard. Also, i cant seem to find the option to turn off haptic feedback on tge stock keyboard.
What do you guys reccomend?
settings > language and input > hit "default Engilsh (US) - Android Keyboard)" > hit "Configure input methods" > hit the "settings icon" next to "android keyboard.
In here, there are lots of options. Vibrate on keypress, sound on keypress, etc. If you click on "Auto Correction" it has different settings. By default it is on "modest". There is "aggressive" and "very aggressive". There is also advanced settings at the bottom.
i am not sure how you type, but i have no issue with the auto correction of the stock keyboard.
in fact, i am well impressed with it as well. as there is some sort of blind type DNA in the stock keyboard, that is for sure.
I've had no problems with it so far and I'm a novice when it comes to typing on an Android phone (Even though I've been using them for 5 years) auto correct is doing its jobs worth for me.
my only issue is that I keep hitting the "b" button instead of a space because of the larger screen... and 80% of the time it fixes that automatically.
The ICS keyboard is very good IMO. The only alternative I would recommend is SwiftKeyX but I didn't like it. It was too aggressive and screwed me up more then my typing.
Seriously, are you typing without looking at the screen? I've misspelled some words pretty bad and auto correct hasn't gotten it wrong once yet for me. Not sure what you're doing...

Sometimes lol, but no seriously, i like auto capitalization of "i" and auto punctuation sometimes. I like the aesthetics of the keyboard but simple stuff like correctjng these coomon words that im tryjnh to type here and tge keyboard doesny aytocorrect. I think i type pretty fast in landscape so id like for mg simple mistakes to be corrected so im not slowed down much. I also have pretty decent sized hands so maybe that plays in as well.
Okay, i just turned off the haptic feedback and turned up autocorrection to aggressive. Howevrr, i jusg notice that there was an optkon to show suggested word corrections. I made sure it was on. However, as i tgpe no suggestions appear like tgey did on the gingerbread keyboard. Also, you can, see my mispelled words. None autocorrections were made on "aggressive" setting. Do yiu guys get auto correction suggestion popups?
I'm having same issues, a lot of words end up garbled nonsense as well. Must mean I really suck at typing on that thing but I am definitely quite a bit slower than on real keyboards like palm pre and G1.
Tgiz sentence is tyoed with autocorrection on very aggresive. As you can see i am sgill making manh mistakes and none are beinh corrected. Not one time has a suggestion popped uo and corrected my mistakes. Tge is not corrcted to "the" as yiu can still see! Am i foing somethijg wrong?
It seems so as I typed a lot of mistakes on the default keyboard with this message and they all corrected

Is your autocorrect just not working at all??
Stock keyboard would be a lot better if it was bigger. Like compare to the wp7 KB on the htc titan and androids is pathetically small. I think I'm going to take a stab at making a wp7esk KB for android...yea all current options are that bad IMO. Swype is to small, thumb KB is right size but is to slow. Might be able to go straight off of ics source...

auto correct does not work at all places.
you can define certain type of field it is to disable auto correct.
for example, when you type in password field, auto correction is disabled by default.
in browser, its set to the mode where there is no auto correction.
Swiftkey is much better keyboard but the only problem I have is the voice input with swiftkey isnt native. They have their own processing engine that returns 3 options. The google one types as you speak.
I had issues with hitting letters instead of space and it got too annoying. SwiftKey auto predict and customization is so much better.
I tried SwiftKey X as an alternative, but thought it was trying to be a tad too smart for its own good *shrugs
I've always used Better Keyboard leading up to getting my GN, however have not felt the need to upgrade from the stock ICS keyboard as yet, its doing an A+ job imo.
Looking at your passages, it looks as though auto correct isn't even turned on lol,
I can see the mistakes you're making and i make the same mistakes in my texts, emails and tweets, however ICS keyboard corrects all for me just fine
Used to use only swift key, but once I got my nexus, I stuck with the ics keyboard and just put it to aggressive and I'm liking it much better, although it was great for a stock one, aggressive is MUCH better

Keyboard doesn't play sounds anymore!

Hello everyone! I just got my One X on Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, despite some small hiccups due to the first version of the SW.
Today I have installed an alternative camera app from the Market (Lg Camera Pro) and I turned off in the options the sound of the shutter. Guess what? The HTC stock keyboard stopped playing its sounds eversince, and no matter what I do there is no way to have them back. I have also uninstalled the Lg Camera app, but to no avail.
My idea is that the app has somehow overwritten some system file and as a result the keyboard is now mute. But is it possible, considering the handset is not even rooted yet?
Any ideas are very welcome.. if I don't find any other solution I will have to go for a full reset.
I have a heap of iPhone mates that I wish could find this LG app you mention. They all sit there in the room, going tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick on their phones while txting...sounds like a bloody stenographer's convention!
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem, but I am glad people around you are enjoying the silence

How about your screen lock / unlock? Is the sound still on? If doesn't then try to install some sound manager apps (ex: Audio manager) and check the volume level for system.
Awesome tip OP! A way to remove annoying keyboard sounds, will apply it if I get this phone and trial it on other devices.

You can always disable the keyboard sound via the keyboard setting menu. Most of the HTC device come with keyboard sound turned off.
I normally use the keyboard on mute, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I should be able to turn the sound on if I wish to do so!
Anyway I had to do a factory reset from recovery to have it back. Thanks to all.

It's an entirely different way of typing. Swype is faster because you don't have to remove your finger from the keyboard (at least not that often).
Swiftkey is faster because it predicts words insanely well, if you write "I'll be there in 5 min" for example it will suggest "be there in 5 min" after you write I'll.
It's a very intresting piece of software which learns what you type the most and how you type it.
Also the new beta even adds spaces between words if you have forgotten it (check video in the thread in VIP section of swiftkey for example).
I tried Swype, Swiftkey, SlideIT, stock keyboard, Sense 4.0 keyboard and I still love Swiftkey the most. At the start it isn't that great but when you use it a few days it becomes 10x better (because of the "learning" of the software).

SwiftKey alternative?

I've been using SwiftKey for about six months and love the predictive text. It works great!
Except for one huge problem. It does not "learn" about 2/3 of the custom words I use. When I type a word, such as "CZ Eddie" or things with apostrophe's, it does not bring up that word in the top left or top middle "predictive" field where I should be able to click it to remember that word in the future. It won't do this with a lot of things I type.
So, I need a different predictive text keyboard app that will remember ALL of my custom words, etc. Not just "some of them". Any suggestions?

Thanks, I'll check it out as soon as my phone gets back from JTAG repair.
Another thing I liked about SwiftKey is it remembers me from ROM to ROM, since it syncs up via my Androids gmail account. So it doesn't have to re-learn things all over again.
Just really sucks that I can't manually add my favorite words to its dictionairy.
If you go under settings and to personalization you can have it learn the way you type. If you use a lot of the words that you wish to add to your dictionary just tap learn from SMS. I have been using this keyboard for well over 2 years and that seems to work great for me. Hope that helps!

Yep, I have it learn from SMS and Facebook. There are still lots of words that it refuses to even try and learn though.
I don't understand why I can't manually add a word to my dictionary. Even Microsoft lets you do that.

Here is a link to another keyboard that I am trying out for fun. Seems pretty good so far and the predictions are pretty spot on. Here is the link if you want to give it a shot!

I use Thumb Keyboard for my GS3.
It is an amazing keyboard that makes typing so much faster and easier.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beansoft.keyboardplus&hl=en
It's on sale now for half price. Best app I have purchased to date. Read some reviews, watch some vids and ask around about it if you need to.
Let us know if you check it out. I guarantee you won't use anything else after using it for a few hours or so.
There is so much customizing you can do with it also. Size of keys, height of keyboard and it comes with some really nice themes.
Good luck!
I love SwiftKey but one of my pet peeves is that the prediction boxes disappeared in certain apps like google search and others. It was quite annoying. Anyway, I was notified that the new beta of SwiftKey Flow has the predictions enabled in a lot more places. You can disable the swipe part if you like and it functions exactly like the original SwiftKey.
I dunno the last time I used I used swift key flow it wasn't very good(couldn't use it in half the apps or places I can with swift key 3.)
I did notice that predictions with SwiftKey 3 seem to be occurring less and less and that the app isn't working in most fields either. I like it more than the Swype beta keyboard as I still get some time of predictive text more so than Swype

I'm having a pretty good experience with the 4.2 keyboard... You can type or swipe. The predictive text is right on for me. It also remembers the words I tell it to.

Kii is my daily and love it.

Can back up your dictionary too now.
I've tried every keyboard (xcept the Jellybean one) and keep coming back to SwiftKey because it's just overall better for my type of typing, IMO.
One thing I liked about one of the other keyboards was that it had the option to split up the left & right keys with different colors.
But while some of the other keyboards let me add things to their dictionary (which I like) their predictive text sucks in comparison to Swiftkey (for my typing anyways).
Like I'm on Swiftkey Beta now, just to see if it was any better. And I typed in "UFC" in all caps. And it did not give me the option to add it to my dictionary. WTF.
Of the others, ThumbKey was my second favorite. But only for the GUI.
I've settled on Swiftkey Flow and Kii, both of them still in beta. They are both great apps, but I am leaning more toward Kii. You can get a lot of different skins for Kii as well

SwiftKey Flow is the real deal. I don't use the flow/gesture typing method but I like Flow better than the standard SwiftKey. The prediction boxes are available almost everywhere unlike the original SwiftKey where the boxes disappear in places where they would be invaluable.

Just tried Kii, and the verdict is in- it Kiicks ass! By far the best keyboard out there, allows more customization options than all the other keyboards. This is a must have. And it's free. Crazy good app name drop friend!
Swype is the best keyboard I've used yet. The flow and predict works very well.
If SwiftKey didn't have a good auto-correct engine, it would probably be an awful keyboard layout to use. The letters are too cluttered together. As for SwiftKey Flow, I feel the Android 4.2 keyboard and Swype 1.4 Beta are superior auto-correct when swiping on the keyboard.

I have to agree for swype typing nothing beats swype beta once they get a black theme in there solid black no one else will disagree. I pick my keyboard for how well it fixes all my horrible mistakes. Nothing tops swype though JB keyboard comes in a close 2nd. It was almost a winner in my book essp because you can theme it your self unlike swype which they made it impossible to theme (as far as I know I know I can't do it)
But the other ones swiftkey just had no idea what I was typing to type, and kiki I dunno hated that keyboard bad.
If you never tried swype i can say honestly its worth a try. I can also say the JB keyboard is bad ass also and deff good.
I have no choice I pick the best speller and grammar fixer. Swype could be a lot better but so could lots of things.
Its silly to me how these companys have millions of dollars and employes but they can't figure out a simple friken think like a solid black theme. Wtf? what kinda crappy weed are they smoking they come up with a bright neon red keyboard but not black or white. HAHAHHA

[Q] G3 and SwiftKey

How are people finding SwiftKey on the G3? I am seeing two persistent issues
1) G3 will periodically revert to Google Keyboard necessitating the re-selection of SwiftKey. This was happening a couple of times again till I froze the Google Keyboard.
2) There is a consistent lag when Swiftkey is getting loaded. You click on a text field and half a second later the keyboard comes up. I don't see this with the LG or Google keyboards.
Swiftkey is so much better than the alternatives I hope they fix this soon. Must have something to do with the screen res.
Haven't noticed any lag myself tbh.
Not had the switching keyboard thing either although I have in the past

I read on twitter that the LG G3 keyboard will be having an update within the month. Among the improvements will be next word prediction and emoticon prediction. Perhaps, after this update, the G3 keyboard will be on par (or close to) the functionality of swiftkey

Don't think so. While others approach Swiftkey in terms of functionality and prediction algorithms in English, Swiftkey is nearly as amazing in other languages, including those of small countries with population less than Manhattan. How they do it I don't know, but it is a fact.

@lguK announced it (the official UK LG account) not sure if other LG accounts also announced it.
Are you running on ART? Have you tried restarting your phone or reinstalling swiftkey?
I use swiftkey and one of the best things about is is that I can change the long press time to about 200ms. It's way too long on stock keyboards and this makes getting to some symbols and limited number usage faster than having to switch from letters all the time.

I am on ART and I don't have either of the problems. I have Swiftkey lag on my wife's Moto G.
Swiftkey on Dalvik - lag
Swiftkey on ART - no lag
I'm back to Dalvik because I wanted Xposed
One thing I did that helped a bit is go to settings - Languages and the first option Language - I unchecked Spelling correction which seems to have helped quite a bit in the lag department.
I got lags since they launched the Swiftkey 5 version, even on ART/Dalvik in my Moto G.
It's toooo slow and there are lots of annoying lags.
I've been using Swiftkey since 2013, and I never had any problems like that.
They already said is working to solve this issues.
SwiftKey was lagging on my Moto G as well. In both Dalvik and ART. Too heavy it was I think, but I was using it anyway.

I never noticed this before on the HTC One X. Maybe because the phone as a whole was less responsive because this is par for the course. You are right, I have grown so used to SwiftKey that I just put up with these things and keep using it.
I keep accidentally hitting up or down instead of space and it's driving my writing insane. That sucks.
Im also inadvertently collapsing predictions possibly, or the phone is. Haven't figured that out yet.

I read on twitter that the LG G3 keyboard will be having an update within the month. Among the improvements will be next word prediction and emoticon prediction. Perhaps, after this update, the G3 keyboard will be on par (or close to) the functionality of swiftkey

Except that SwiftKey is not LG exclusive and has over 3 years of my writing history. It knows what I'm saying before I do. Nothing will replace it for a long time to come. Until voice dictation is perfected.

ART is not supported by all apps yet. So use for the time being Dalvik
If you are using Swiftkey, disable bi-langual word-prediction in the setting from LG-keyboard. See screenshot. Its Dutch but you should find it..:cyclops:

Culdn't find that setting - I have all my keyboards except Enlgish US unchecked/turned off.
As for apps and ART - soon all apps will be ART supproted since Google L will be exclusive ART. It's only a handful of apps that don't work correcty yet.

Common/Language-Input/LG-Keyboard/Settings/Othersettings/Bilanguale prediction?!
About ART. Depends. The developers of the application must implement it in there apps . If they dont, the app wont run.

Nope, such a setting does not exist. Under LG Keyboard/Settings I see two subsections: My Keyboard and Smart Input. The latter has an item "Additional settings" in it, but there is nothing even remotely related to "bilingual prediction" there.

Well, I tried to translate it from Dutch. So its proberly under 'smart-input' scroll down a bit and search for wordsuggestions. If you cant find it, you dont have it?! Sounds strange to me..
