S20 Ultra disable 5G - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello, im interested in buying an S20 Ultra but I really dont want to get the 5G variant, I know there is an LTE variant though. So my question is, is it possible to hard disable the 5G modem somehow? Maybe even with a different rom, like totally disabling it? Im asking this for both Exynos and Snapdragon version.
Thanks.

You can change the network mode in your sim manager to your desired network.
Example shown in the screenshot , im using a s20+ not the ultra version but the method is the same.

You can also disable 5G when you enter device care, select your desired power mode option and disable 5G.

It depends on your carrier. Some carriers allow selecting between 5G/LTE/3G/2G. Go to main phone Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network mode

activate preferred LTE band(s) permanently

I have G710EAW (LG G7+) which has by default active LTE Bands 1,3,5,7,8,28. However I live in Europe and I with my carrier I would benefit from band 20 as well.
What I am doing currently, is via service menu I am activating manually all the bands I need (including band 20) in modem settings. This works perfectly fine, actually I am so used to it I can do it within seconds. Naturally after phone restart all is reverted.
It is a minor inconvenience, hence the question: any idea how to make the setting persistent or any tool that would do it after each reboot?
I would like to avoid installing firmware from other model (if that's even possible, I am layman in this...)

I don't know if Tasker needs root but you may be able to accomplish it with Tasker.
Although it may be a pain to setup i think tasker has a subreddit that you may be able to ask somebody who uses it more than I do

Hi, I'm also looking to buy the EAW version for the dual sim feature. So you confirm the phone has all the LTE bands but some of them are locked by the software installed?
I need a phone dual sim that works in Europe and USA....

Well I do believe Qualcomm Snapdragon is an excellent platform and the build-in modem is capable of all bands. I do have EAW version (I think originally from Hong Kong).
The band selection is not available from OS, but if you dial *#546368#*710# there is a hidden menu where in
Field Test -> Modem Settings -> LTE Band Selection I have these bands available:
1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,20,25,28,29,30,38,40
To my limited experience any combination works just fine (I am in central EU). The drawback is that after reboot (or airplane mode) only the default (1,3,5,7,8,28) are on.
Just for the hell of it. I tried on my US phone, can't even access the menu Sucks.

It works for me on the T-Mobile variant you have to use the stock lg dialer and type the code in you cant just copy it in
How do you know this has worked? I toggled on the bands that I need bu there was no 'success' or save prompt and if I exit and re-do the process all the boxes are un-ticked when I navigate to the LTE bands page.

Sorry for late reply.. I'm using stock dialer, and enter in manually, still doesn't work.. Maybe it is a T-mobile code or something.. I'm not use to having a phone were I can't access the hidden menues..

Weird it takes me right to the menu once I hit the # sign on the end
I get the menu ok just no indication it has worked and the setting has stuck.

S20 voice/data freezes frequently when 5G enabled (T-Mobile)

Hi everyone,
I have a problem where the phone will display 5G but not receive or send any data. It seems to freeze up because instructing the phone to switch to LTE doesn't work, resetting APN doesn't do anything, and going to airplane mode and back doesn't fix anything either. The only fix seems to be restarting the phone.
Does anyone else have these issues? I'm probably going to just disable 5G for the time being since it doesn't seem to provide any benefit to me right now... (Los Angeles)
Thank you!
Note: I had a t-mobile S20, and now am using a new unlocked S20. Same issue.
Yep happens on my Samsung Factory unlocked S20 on T-Mobile 5G. In the service menu disabling 5G forces it on LTE and issue is gone. Looks like theres tons of reddit posts about it too. Wonder if its affecting other 5G devices as well

Thanks for the confirmation! Hopefully some updates fix this very soon. I'm sure Samsung and carriers would be aware of something this big...
Same here. Changing to lte from the connection settings does work but takes a while to actually change. About a minute or 2. Really sucks cause other than the no data it does full bars of 5g

This menu seems to be for testing... which icon do we have to press in order to force toggling back to LTE?
I'm shocked that we're almost at the end of July - almost 5 months after the phone released, and 5G is completely unusable still. Are others still having this issue??? I re-enabled 5G this morning to determine whether it would work now. I honestly expected it to be fine and perhaps freeze up later in the day, but it immediately died out when I did a speed test. 4 Mbps down and then 0 mbps up. Unresponsive for a couple minutes after that - wouldn't even go back to LTE when 5G was disabled.
Edit: it's worth mentioning that this is also a new device, and this time I went for the unlocked variant rather than the T-mobile device. Both devices' connections freeze.
i had similar issues here in the UK on vodafone - switching to 5G and no data was coming thru but switching to 4G and it was working fine
i had 5g switched off for months but turned on back last week, and now it works - although 4g speeds seem to be faster than 5g speeds
not sure if its the phone or the network - could be the phone as i tried the same sim into an oppo f2 pro and i was getting much better speeds -
just adds to the list of disappointments this phone has been - i really hope they fix iit but hopes are disappearing

Issue with 5G connectivity on S20 Ultra (Canada)

I have s20 ultra purchased originally from Telus. Its unlocked.
Now I'm with Rogers but phone do not connect on 5G. It stays on LTE even though I have 5g coverage. If I insert my same sim in oneplus 8 pro I get 5g on that.
Talked to samsung and rogers and they have no idea. Both says everything good from their side.
Any suggestions?
Settings/mobile networks/Network mode.
Is that set to 5G/LTE/HSPA/GSM (Autoconnect)?
Also, try resetting network settings, as well as going into the APN settings and resetting to default.
I don't think you have to change your CSC to Rogers, but you may have to.
Already tried these steps with Samsung support but no result
Can you guide me how to change CSC to Roger's? Will it void warranty if I flash it ?
Finally the issue is fixed. Neither samsung nor rogers provided the solution but Google did.
Solution is to change CSC and immediately 5g and other features like volte and rcs chat started working.

Wifi Calling in Note 10+ 5g

Hi,
I have note 10 plus 5g version, and i am trying to use the WIFI-calling feature,
I have enabled everything and from some reason it does not work.
I have enabled the feature via the phone app, as well as via the toggle in the notifications bar, as well as the Volte function in "Connections" . I also gave the right permission to the feature in "apps".
My carrier enables this feature and i can use the feature with an Iphone.
Anyone have an idea how to solve this problem ?
It would help if you stated what specific model phone you have and what carrier you're using .

i know, this won't help you, but for me, with the same phone, it worked out of the box (by enabling it) on swisscom.

Question Is 5G really 5G?

For me he indicated 5G, although there is still no 5G from my provider on site. See also screenshot.
Somehow something is wrong with MIUI.
This could be like AT&T's 5GE branding but something Xiaomi have baked into MIUI?
See link: here
WtH. If it really is, then it sucks.
Just choose "Prefer LTE" in Sim cards & mobile networks > your current sim > Preferred network type > Prefer LTE. You can use LTE normally while waiting for your telco provider to support 5G in the future.
Yes I could. But it is irritating when something is displayed incorrectly.
