Android DP11 issue with launcher - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I have been using Evie launcher even with DP11 but with recent update few days ago it is borked, even though I set it as default launcher and when I try to get recent apps by clicking on square in dock it FC's and when I look at app info in the fc warning it shows as pixel launcher not Evie, I did factory reset as well but it did not help, any ideas.

The Pixel Launcher still handles app switching even if you use another launcher, and its been broken for me too on DP4.

[Q] Pressing back button on apps shows stock launcher

I am using NOVA as my daily launcher. Whenever I open any app and press back key, instead getting Nova launcher home and I see stock touchwiz home. How Do I fix this problem? I can get Nova launcher home by pressing home button.
Mine is not doing that. I used an app called homesmack to set nova as default. That may fix your problem. Sounds like every action isn't defaulted to home. Just the home button.

I had that problem with Nova and sslauncher but only when I had backed out of gmail!? Really strange. Do as Aranen_Zen suggested and install a home switcher to see if it helps.
Thank, I will try home switcher. Does anybody know how to fix without installing any other app.

Not sure if you tried this yet, but go into NOVA settings and scroll to bottom...there's a setting called "set default home". It will show what you have set and can set NOVA as default there. Also, in Manage Applications you can clear defaults somehow if step above didn't work.
I have a Motorola Razr M HD (XT926) and am running into the same issue with Nova.
Pressing the "back" button to leave an app takes me to my default home. However, if I leave an app by pressing "home" I am taken to my Nova home screen.
OP, did you figure this out without installing another app?
Doctor, I did as you said to no avail.

I am not sure but with Nova update (or Jelly Bean 4.1.2 update ??) that problem has gone. I had setup Nova as default launcher but still was getting error.

i am not facing that problem now. No idea what fixed it, update to Nova or Firmware upgrade. But I am glad that it has gone.

I have the same problem with my Note 8.0 but it seems to only happen for the Gmail widget, which I use very often. I've tried Nova, Apex and GO launchers and they have the same results. I've tried the suggested home-switching apps but to no avail.
Getting exact same problem
I have a Motorola XT925 RAZR HD. Just installed Nova and set it as default launcher using the Nova settings... made sure the Home Launcher has no defaults... but yeah, backing out of Gmail or Text Messaging would show the default launcher home screen. Rebooting seems to have cured it, but I'll report back if it comes back. Kinda annoying but glad to see others having the same problem, means a software issue, not my phone! heh.

No launcher now ??? Only option "At the top of your All Apps list"

Please help, I don't have the stock Pixel 3 launcher installed or something anymore ?
Ok, I rooted my 3 XL last week, all working well, but I have done a ton of tweaks here and there, tried different launchers, uninstalled them, then go back to them, etc... Nova always being my main, but I wanted to go lightweight and stay stock, but stock doesn't allow swiping down on the screen to pull the notification shade down, whereas every launcher has that most basic option baked in, it blows my mind Google doesn't have that as default yet, but anyways.
I tried Rootless Pixel launcher with Magisk, but then there's also Rootless launcher on the Play Store. But they need you to install that companion app or bridge or something to get the Google Now Feed on the left panel, which I did, and all good.
But the way Swift Dark themes work, I didn't like any of the launcher's Google Now Feed panel, I only like the stock stock Pixel 3 launcher the phone comes with by default, it's more up to date looking, or better, than the outdated looking ones that come with Rootless Pixel launcher which is only 3.7 on Magisk, and like 3.9 on Play Store or something ?
Anyways, I uninstalled Rootless Pixel Launcher, and rebooted, and then the phone freaked out upon restarting, immediate stating some error " At the top of your All Apps list " keeps flashing and I it only goes to this setting screen, pressing home button does nothing.
I rebooted several times, tried a bunch of things, and somehow was able to get my to my web browser luckily, and did a quick install of "lean launcher" to get something going. I rebooted and I have Lean Launcher as my main and only launcher now, all working well. But I don't really want this launcher on, as it's a major battery hog and system hog. In Developer Settings, Running Services Lean is always at like 400mb, and in Battery settings Lean is usually at the top of the list. This is based on my Pixel 2 XL using Lean Launcher before, it works great, and is smooth, but for some reason it was always a battery hog.
So if I uninstall Lean Launcher, I get that same error again, and only options listed in the Default apps - Home app - two options "At the top of your All Apps list" or Lean Launcher, which is selected now.
My battery life sucks all of a sudden.
Unplug this morning 100% charge. I'm on home WiFi, I surf the web while eating breakfast, then do my workout in my basement, listening to YouTube Music. Took a short phone call, did some texts.
Battery life down to 66% now, after about 2.5 hours of use.
I think maybe it's Lean Launcher ? But in Running Services it shows only 2%. I just wish I could go back to the stock default launcher the phone came with. Bit it seems to have been wiped away or something.
At this point I'm ready to do a factory reset, but I'm rooted, and out in the field today no computer. So not even sure if possible to reset while rooted and have the phone go back to everything default ?
For the moment grab a different launcher, Nova, Action, Evie, are three I know are not too bad on batt. Once you've got something else, uninstall lean, I haven't used it but it sounds like you've got something hashed with it in at least the current installation.
Lean Launcher is really good, it's like the stock Pixel launcher, just more options. It's super smooth.
But I'm worried it's a battery hog ? Any know if it's known to be ?
If I went ahead to do a factory reset, but I'm rooted. Will the phone do a full system reset, and start over fresh with the original stock launcher ? Or does being rooted mess that up and not work ?
So I had some app updates in the Play Store, and one of the apps that had an update ready as the Pixel Launcher. I was surprised to see that, and when going to the Read More section it showed latest update Apr 17, 2017.
Anyways I updated, and then went back to Default apps, and now finally I see both options. Lean Launcher and Pixel Launcher. Whereas before it was just showing me Lean Launcher and At the top of your All Apps.
Hmm, enabling Pixel Launcher now looks weird. It's some old school like Pixel 1 style. Version # 7.1.1-3862848. Why would the Play Store update me to an older launcher version ? Oh well, guess back to Lean Launcher for now.

Had exactly the same issue with Pixel 1.
Replacing "NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk" in module zip with the original apk from system image and reinstalling module did the trick.
And now magisk replaces my original NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk in /system/priv-app with the same original NexusLauncherPrebuilt.apk and everything works fine, but if i disable the module i get this error again...
What fixed it for me
I had this exact same issue on my Pixel XL (1st Gen rooted with Android 9.0) and did the same install of the Rootless Pixel XL Launcher. I did end up getting the spam of "At the top of your All Apps list". My fix was to download the original pixel launcher from the google play, then uninstall the updates to it, to which it would revert back to the stock pixel launcher, but after each restart it'd go back to the "at the top of your All Apps List" problem, so I used Titanium Backup to make a backup of the app (after updating & uninstalling updates to the pixel launcher from the google play), and I restarted the phone, ran titanium backup, restored the app (make sure you restore it as Pixel Launcher and it'll show back up as At the top of your All Apps List when you go to restore it), and I've had the stock launcher with no other issues since.
I know it's an old thread but I just solved for me on Pixel 3 XL
So, first I deleted the original Pixel launcher with root and Total Commander but didn't help at all. Lean Launcher (apk) installed, all OK but still I can not install Glance module since somehow, the Pixel Launcher is still active even if I deleted ....and do not appear on Apps tab. The main reason is Pixel Launcher have a name, and without this particular name, the Glance function doesn't work on Pixel. So, Glance module MUST have THAT name And, you can not install it with Pixel Launcher installed... (bad Google!)
Ok, after that, I reinstalled Pixel Launcher from Gplay, go in Apps, unistalled from there and voila! Glance worked and now I have the full Lean Launcher working. Ofcourse, you will have an update on Gplay for Pixel Launcher, but just make sure you cut out auto update for it and all OK.
Now I really enjoy my Pixel 3 XL without that stupid search bar on my screen and with more options from Lean Launcher!
Hyperion launcher is snappy as hell! Its a new launcher made by the dev or devs of substratum. So i trust it and i like. Give it a whirl!

Nova Launcher - Icons default to AI when closing down apps

Hello,
I am new to Android and I have recently installed Nova on my Note 10 and got it looking exactly how i want it but when i go to quick switch or close my apps the Icons on the top are the old ones that i was running on Samsungs AI, Is their anyway to change this in the settings or is this just how Samsung cover it so you can fully use Nova?
The Icons appear on my Home Screen and App Drawer but when i select the home button to swipe between open apps the top app icon is my old one from when i was on samsungs AI instead of nova.
I am running Android 9 and Nova Prime 6.1.11
Any help would be brilliant.
Have you chosen Nova to be your default launcher? Not sure what else would be causing your icon pack to not stick.

Hi,
I have defaulted it in the Nova Launcher and in the Settings but it sticks for the home screen and the App Draw but not if your flicking between open apps or in the Apps section in settings, I wonder if anyone who has a 10 is having this issue as well with Nova Launcher?

As additional info on this as I've tried to help in person but run out of ideas...
We've double checked that Nova is definitely set as the default launcher - issue persists
We've tried clearing Nova's app cache - issue persists
We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nova - issue persists
We've tried clearing partition cache - issue persists
It's a bit confusing as on the surface Nova seems to be doing it's job, but when going in to the apps part of the settings menu all of the default Samsung theme icons are there instead of the ones set in Nova (not the case on the other Android phones running Nova that we have access to, which keep the icon pack loaded in to Nova through the entire system). Then trying to switch between apps seems to reset the whole thing to the default Samsung theme.

Update: We think it's a Samsung problem!
Tried Apex and Smart Launcher 5, both having the exact same issue. At this point I'm inclined to think it's actually an issue with something in how the new Samsung Note 10+ works with launchers.
Anyone else got this working properly? What launcher have you used?
I think it is how the system is designed . maybe with android 10 that will change
Fingers Crossed It will, Thank you.

first thing I did upon receiving my exynos note10 plus was to install nova, prime version, and download the icon packs of my choice, and, as always, zero problems, any customization I set, sticks no matter what, so, The issue has nothing to do with samsug or ultimately with Pie
Maybe it's a Note 10 thing, have you tried a device reset?
No problems with Nova on my Exynos Note 10 plus 5G, as on all devices in my house, S9, Note 8, Note 9, the first customisation is Nova Prime.
Maybe someone with Note 10 could chime in.
Have you tried going into the settings of Nova launcher, selecting look and feel, select icon style, select icon theme. And then toggle between the marshmallow default, the system, and the icon pack you use. I use the icons from a Samsung icon theme pack. And have to do this. But it works Everytime.

Nova Launcher - Closing Recent Apps Issue

Hey everyone,
I'm running into a weird problem lately. I have a custom homescreen with Nova Launcher Pro and whenever I click the Recent Apps button. I close all recent apps and it force closes Nova Launcher and reactivates Samsung One UI. It does this every single time until I hit the Home button and it goes back to Nova Launcher. Anyone know what could be causing this weird issue. I only had this issue recently so part of me thinks it's from a firmware update. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Try clearing the system cache on boot menu.
Try clearing associated apk caches, data if need be.
If you migrated from Pie to Q time probable time to reload...

Yeah I've wiped cache partition from boot menu (holding power and volume up button during restart). I've also wiped cache and data from both Samsung One UI and Nova Launcher and still nothing.

You can try a hard reboot but that seldom works.
Look at clearing cache/data of the related system apks.
I tried a few launchers and ran into issues with all. Be very wary if you see any system instabilities as boot crash may be next.
One launcher (not Nova) boot looped my 10+ twice.
The Samsung launcher is fast, rock solid stable and allows for a lot of customization.
After fighting with 3rd party launchers that were slower, used more resources/battery, not as stable, loss of some functionality etc... it wasn't worth it.
You could uninstall and reinstall the Nova app and see if that works, I will probably get told that if you wipe the cache it the same thing. But I've done it before with other apps and it has fixed issues. I use Nova beta on my note 10 and I've never had any issue with it, so you could also try that. Good luck [emoji106]

Double check to make sure Nova is set as your default Launcher.
Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Home
I've had this happen a couple times with Microsoft Launcher after an update was pushed.
You may have to set it to OneUI then back to Nova.

Yup, tried that to no avail. I'm losing hope here haha

^This^ but it may not work.
Reload the OS, go hog wild or... do what I did after a 3rd party launcher boot looped my 10+ twice.
Use the native launcher.
Fast, very stable and very customizable if you use the available free themes, icon packs and the Good Lock family of apps. Throw in a custom background with Color Wallpaper and done.
Solution which helped me
Hi, I had same problem and for me helped to choose as default app for Home One Ui and then back Nova Launcher.

Not sure if you resolved this or not but I just ran into this issue on my Note 20 Ultra. Fix was the same as above where I set the Samsung UI back to default, then switched it back to Nova Launcher and then did a hard restart with volume down and power button. Note: did not work until I did the hard restart

Yah!
It may return though. Hard resets shouldn't be needed. There may be a firmware and/or hardware incompatibility present.
Watch it closely for instability as this is a class of app that can boot loop the device.
Never had Nova do it but another launcher did, twice. Not fun.
Have you set app power management for nova?
boot cache menu clear, also most are gone now but i like cda not on app store, and leave shut down for a few minutes, Mine on Nova would not show apps if i pulled tab on apps still open in background, then just quit, did above and havent had issues. Tis the season
Experiencing this issue with Nova Beta on my Z Fold 2 as well surprisingly its working great on my og Fold.
I had the same issue on a Galaxy M31, issue has been resolved by clearing the data of the One UI Home App under Settings - Apps - Show system apps - One UI Home - Storage - clear data
I do have same issue with Poco F2 pro (K30), although POCO Launcher is still installed (even not deactivated), if I'll choose as default Nova, the recent app button (square) not reacting at all. Multiple press lead to error message "POCO Launcher crashed".
I used the recent apps to clean them from mem (hope I say that right).
did anyone found a way how to fix the not working recent app button on custom launcher (in my case Android 11)?
the suggestions above (including M$ Launcher did not worked for me)
also is there any other way how to delete/kill apps from mem - other than use recent apps (square) button?
thanks for suggestions.

Are there any goodlock modules that can make my icons round? I hate these default icons. The main reason why I would want to use a custom launcher...but don't, because like you already stated, one ui launcher is just fast and very stable.

Lag when using Nova Launcher?

I just noticed there's some lag in Mi 10T when using Nova Launcher as the default launcher. For example, when changing apps in multitasking or going back to homescreen.
Also, when Nova Launcher is set as default, you lose the gesture to go to the previous app swiping up from the bottom and then right.
Any solutions?

Gestures don't work at all in custom launchers, that's a limitation of android 10, and 11, and without rooting there is no solution for now. As for lagginess that's again using other launchers. Try and find one that doesn't lag (nova doesn't lag for me, but I'm using classic 3 buttons navigation because gesture nav doesn't work...)

You have to find the way to get nova launcher to behave like system launcher (delete miui launcher and put nova in its place) to get gestures working. Check on internet, there's tons of guides on how to make system launcher, or maybe there is some magisk module that does that...

I feel your pain.
Same deal on my Note 10+... those damn white labels. That's all I wanted to change.
Nova Launcher does slow it down as do many others if it already has a good stock launcher as the 10+ actually does.
Nova used a lot more resources/battery than stock too.
Take any launcher instability seriously.
After hyperion boot looped me twice, yes two full reloads worth of fun, I decided I could live with the white labels.
My need for speed and system stability is much greater...
