My Note 5 Global is on stock MIUI 9.6.4 ARB4 with TWRP recovery and Magisk. If I download the ROM from the MIUI website would I be able to dirty flash it over my existing MIUI 9? Does the new ROM contain updated firmware? Could I brick my phone if I tried to restore a TWRP backup of MIUI 9 over a failed MIUI 10 installation because of ARB?
Thanks

well i think it needs to reset phone as you said it yourself it updates new firmware.
2 question if your twrp back up its a 9.5.17.0 or eralier then yes itll brick. as this will be ARB3 and miui qo ARB4.
i dont understand why so much fuss over ARB4. i can do samethings as in ARB3. i just cant use command to flash. i need command to boot into image then install twrp from within twrp using twrp.img.

But I assume the OTA update for phones with stock recovery does not reset the phone. And I don't know if the new rom actually contains new firmware.

Yeah moving from stable to beta or vice versa clears the data but moving between stable to stable ROM will not clear data
Thanks but my main concern is doing the update via TWRP rather than OTA. Can this be done as a TWRP dirty flash or does the OTA run a script during the update?

You have to flash full recovery ROM in TWRP . Yes you can do dirty.. MIUI10 has anti4 bootloader same as 9.6.4
So I dirty flashed the update with twrp then flashed magisk. Everything went fine and I still have twrp.

Hi all
My note 5 pro is Global ver, 6gb/64gb. I was on Oreo last ver, just before few days I received notification for Pie, so without a 2nd thought I downloaded and installed that. The Pie ver is stable 10.3.1.0 PEIMIXM and now regretting why I did that. The battery drain is horrible, it drains like crazy, on Oreo my battery used to last at least 2 to 2.5 days whereas this one just dies in 1 day, the usage is less then the previous usage in Oreo.
Now the question is how can I revert back to Oreo from this Pie, if at all possible.
The phone does not have TWRP but the bootloader is Unlocked.
Any help is appreciated.

Download oreo fastboot file and flash it with mi flash tool(select clean all if u want to keep bl unlocked)
U can flash recovery rom file and flash it via twrp.but fastboot flash is recommended
Will this not brick my phone as trying to go back to previous ver of ROM.. and due to this Anti-RollBack policy?

its been awhile since i have flashed anything on a phone. last time i did it was on my note 4...anyways, i also want to do this since my battery doesn't last long and dual apps for Pokemon Go, isn't working like i had it before.
my bootloader is locked. I know i have to unlock it via MUI website and write the reason i wan to unlock it. how long does it take for them to unlock it?
what should i write to them?
does unlocking the bootloader mean its rooted or do i have to have a custom rom?
also, im confused on what model my phone is. i checked my model name: its M1803E7SH
i checked online and it says that its the redmi note 5 as well as the redmi note 5 pro..so im wondering if this method will work on my phone. pleaaaase help

You dont have to write any reason to unlock bootloader.
visit en.miui.com/unlock page login with your mi account and proceed with unlocking procedure, you may need to wait 360 hours before unlocking bootloader (depending on your mi account activity)
your's is Redmi Note 5/Pro model name WHYRED. you can download Redmi Note 5 Pro ROM package and flash it on your mobile

No. Phone will go back to original RECOVERY after 2nd restart.
Does that TWRP is functional with REDMI NOTE 8 PRO ?
Some functions may work, some not.
Installing root with this TWRP will cause bootloop.

Just flash boot.img from FASTBOOT + RECOVERY+BOOT and bring your phone back to life.

The ROM is based on the Chinese beta version 9.10.17 Miui 11 and the Magisk is integrated into the ROM. Just flashed the archive with ROM from TWRP. I do not have a direct link to ROM - I downloaded it from the OTA server. You need to ask on the developers site.

First you have to downgrade to Android V9, i don't remember which MIU Version that is.
@mxpower, this is strictly not true, I have been able to install Pixel Experience ROM straight from the Global ROM V12.0.3.0.QGGMIXM A10 without needing to downgrade first.
I followed this CFW migration guide correctly (method 2) with no bootloops and all working correctly.
@perlene You probably flashed the wrong TWRP version, to be safe, Flash full MIUI firmware from SP Flash Tools or via fastboot and start over again
Same problem, I have tried few different twrps since yesterday, same keep bootlooping!! every try after flashed with full Miui firmware from Mi flash, still the same.

Hi I follow this video,
https://youtu.be/_e-b89KhPIo and install the Android 9 twrp from the link. I did not install any preloader nor lk. only this twrp file. after finish this, reboot to recovery, it show some selection, I select recovery and press volume - buttom, then i boot up to LR twrp recovery. in the LR recovery, disable the AVR at the advance menu, and do a back up in case of lost of IMEI information. that all,
Hope it help to you.
