Bluetooth won't pair with GPS sensor - MTCD Android Head Units General

Hi,
I am using a PX5 head unit:
Android 9
Model: RK3368
Build Number: rk3368 userdebug 9 PQ2A.190305.002 eng.hct.20190509.101541 test keys
Kernerl version: 4.4.167
MCU Version: MTCE_KSP_V3.07_1
CPU: Octa Core cortex [email protected]
Memory 3940 MB
I'd like to pair a Garmin GPS sensor via Bluetooth. The sensor's firmware is at the latest release.
The Head unit is paired with my Note 10+. I can pair the sensor with Samsung Note or Ipad, but I can't do that with the PX5
there is no message, it just doesn't connect. Is there anyway to diagnose what's happening, or things I could try to make that work?
Thanks a lot
Chris

Hi Chris
Bluetooth seems to be very limited when it comes to Android head units. You will see around the forums of people complaining about it. I have 5 OBD II dongles and out of the 5 only 2 work via Bluetooth on the unit yet all work with Bluetooth on my phones.
Problem being also you can't use an external Bluetooth dongle to compensate.
The only suggestion I can give is to connect you GPS to your phone and then tether your phone via mirroring it to your unit so you use the mirrored image from your phone. Other than that you will need to just go with what GPS the unit already has.
My PX6 unit has a good GPS unit that works flawlessly. Speed from GPS is exactly the same as my Speedo and also my phone.

Thank you for your advise, my GPS unit takes 5 minutes to get a fix when coming from underground parking, the external sensor takes less than 20 seconds and is way more accurate. The thing is, that the accuracy, even for off road driving is no issue for me, it is the time until I receive a signal. I will investigate the mirroring part, to find out if this is feasible or not. It's just annoying to have the unit and then mirror my phone.
Thank you
Chris

Have you got an app on your head unit called easy connect or easy connection?
If you have, then you can use that for mirroring. All you will need to do is activate developer settings on your phone and then turn on debugging. Use your oem lead for your phone and plug it in to your head unit usb socket. It should automatically detect your phone. On your phone you should be given the default option for usb when it's plugged in, just choose charge only then you should be good to go. It also will automatically install the necessary app on your phone.
Make sure that the app on the unit is also upto date.
Good luck
Terry

Do I have issues with my 10.1-2014?

Hi all, I have had my P600 since Christmas and it has been good. I am running ML1 firmware, no root. It shipped with MJ2.
I have noticed a couple of problems. Firstly, I have occasional bluetooth keyboard disconnects. They really infrequent but definitely occur. They just don't seem to be anywhere near as severe as people have been describing in other threads.
Secondly, this tablet just can't detect my 5GHz wifi connection. My Note II on the table next to it has no problems finding and using that connection. I am downloading MK1 firmware now to see if it is ML1 that is the problem, as I *think* that the tablet originally detected both 2.4 and 5GHz connections. I didn't really take note though. I have noticed this now mainly because I've been trying to turn wifi on and off to test what may be happening with bluetooth.
Thing is, I've never really had a good BT experience in my life, but I need to get this keyboard and a mouse working to use this tablet the way I intend to.
Is the 5GHz failure an ML1 thing, is there some other cause, or is it a hardware fault? Any tips?
Cheers,
Jason
Running ML1 as well. No comment on the BT keyboard since I haven't used mine enough yet, only for a few minutes here and there to test, not long time.
I have a dual band Asus RT AC-66U and I can use both my 2.4 and 5 Ghz networks. Only thing is that the 5 Ghz network gets poor reception from the tablet across my house (to be expected I suppose).

Thanks for the reply. It prompted me to look further and I realised it's a channels thing. Changed the channel on my router and the Note can see 5GHz now.
Silly me.
Someone has to find what's going on with bluetooth problem. It's very critical to be able to use this tablet with mouse and keyboard , especially bluetooth, as you can charge the tablet in the same time.

I agree. It is stressing me out. I feel a little trapped because a good test would be to install cleanrom 1.1, which at least one person has said fixed bluetooth, but I can't do that without sacrificing my warranty.
I am not even sure whether I have a hardware problem or bluetooth is just a dubious technology.

XTRONS TE706PL Android 8.0 4GB RAM maybe good?

Hey there.
Today I just wanted to buy an Ownice HU.
But then I found this XTRONS running Android 8.0 with a octa core and 4GB RAM.
Do you guys think it is worth a try or should i rather buy the Ownice?
Thanks for every answer

I can't say anything about Ownice but the Xtrons is definitely worth its money. I have had two Erisin's and a Pumpkin but the Xtrons is my first HU which is working without any issues.
The only thing with Android 8 is that it came out a few weeks ago so it could be still a little bit buggy.
Hello
Yes, on paper it seems perfect, I just have a doubt about the quality of the product, knowing that the audience shines by its absence.
I hope that the conflicts Wifi / Bluetooth are not identical to TB706APL, without reliable internet connection, this new product is useless.
I'm curious about the xtrons also. I was going to buy a joying but saw the xtrons has 4gb of ram. I have both a 2gb and 4gb tablet with similar cpu's, and the 4gb tablet is far faster and more stable than the other one.
I installed the 10.1 version in my truck on Saturday. The model TE103P. So far I am very happy with it. I just need to figure how to get my Bluetooth ODBII adapter working.
The performance so far is impressive. It turns on extremely fast and I like the UI for now. Compared to the Joying I had before, the performance seems better.

I just ordered the xtrons te706pl which shows px5 with 4gb ram and android 8.0. I got it off Amazon for $269.99 with free shipping. I was going to go with joying as it's seems to be the most popular company but 4gb vs 2gb is just to good to pass up. I have 2 tablets with the same Cpu, one has 2gb and the other is a 4gb. The 4gb is so much faster and more stable. 4gb just gives the tablet an easier time it seems.

Do you have any info, about what kind of amplifier Xtrons uses?
Written info is allover the place. Dasaita updated their hardware from TDA7851L to TDA7850, which is supposed to be better, but in their presentation graphics is still written TDA7851L. Since hardware between head units is practically the same, I assume XTRONS might use newer amplifier chip as well...Does anyone have a clue?
Which chipset us it actually? Looks nice, I'm thinking about replacement of a joying with 1 gb and kit Kat which has a really slow startup.

It's using the Rockchip octacore PX5 A 53 architecture 64 bit cpu and 4 gb DDR3 kingston memory.
It is also far way better than the Alwinne T8 which uses a A 7 architecture.

Would you be so kind to share the make and model of your truck, I'm considering putting one of these in my Ford Excursion. I'm concerned about being able to adjust the display vertically.

hello, I want to ask.. how good sound this new device?
because, I have read that sound sucks by older devices (joying, dasaita...)
Ive just got mine xtrons te706pl installed 3 days ago and it's doing great. The only problem I've had is getting logged out of spotify overnight. The install was a pain but I have a factory infinity system with amp. Overall I'm happy with the unit. It's pretty snappy and quick.
Hows the sound quality, any hissing sounds?
Sounds great but I already have a factory amp. But I think it sounds better than the factory stereo. I can't figure out how to root it though. Kingoroot doesn't work then I realized it's android 8.0 and might not be root able by it yet.
I was looking at this unit as well, does it have pre outs for front, rear, and sub? My current unit has a huge drop off in sound quality from youtube to pandora. I've asked about it and not found out if this is a common issue or not in the android units, but that is something that is a big turn off for me. I'm hoping the newer units have this fixed. also any quirks or anything else you've noticed about the unit? so far this one is on the top of my list of what i'll be purchasing next.
Hello
With a few days of use, what is your feedback experience.
Do you test the reliability of 3G or 4G internet connection, are there any cuts like on old units built with the PX5 card?
Is there still the bug that cuts the internet connection at each call reception due to a conflict between bluetooth and wifi?
Is there still an abominable echo during a phone conversation with the correspondent with bluetooth?
I read that it is possible to have two open applications with screen sharing, Waze example displayed on a half screen is it legible, street names ect ..
Thank you for your answers and sorry for the syntax because I use Google translation
cordially
I use my phone as a hotspot for my internet do I can't comment on 3g/4g. I did notice a horrible sound while im talking to someone though. It was a loud screeching noise throughout the call. I had no problem with either wifi or Bluetooth cutting out. I haven't tried to use split screen yet but I will and get back to you. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. It works very well.

The sound quality is so much better than the stock unit. The EQ does an amazing job of bringing out the sound. I haven't notice any difference in YouTube or spotify. I don't use pandora. One quirk is I had a horrible squeaking noise when I had a phone call. I haven't looked into that yet. The other is I can't figure out where the developer options are. I've went to about in settings and hit the model 7 times. The unit says options activated but still can't find it. I wanted to root the device but haven't been able to.

Wireless Android Auto on Pixel 3 XL

Has anyone been able to connect wirelessly to the Android Auto in their car? I have a Honda CR-V 2017 and it connects with the USB cable, but not wirelessly. I have tried all settings multiple times but cannot figure out why it won't connect. I was under the impression that Pixel 3 XL phones had this capability. Can anyone share if they have it working, particularly on a Honda CR-V 2017. If so can you share your settings?

The wireless connection is a car feature not a phone feature. Very few makes support at the moment

I guess I thought most new cars which have Android Auto would be able to connect wirelessly. I thought it depended on the phone model instead.

It depends on both, really. The phone and car both have to support it. Phones (like the Pixel 3/XL) have the ability now, but very few head units (especially OEM from car manufacturers) support it. A few aftermarket units are starting to get it, but it's still very few.
I bought a Kenwood HU that has wireless AA and to be honest I'm disappointed. It works half the time and usually I end up just plugging it in cause it's quicker than messing around with my phone trying to get it too work
I have a pioneer 4400nex and wifi Android auto works flawlessly. Love it.

I have the 8400nex and it works well too and I used the cars speed signal to control the volume and the screen works well. The Kenwood screen was not sensitive enough and had dust under the screen and had trouble connecting but it did auto switch between the front and back camera when backing up and then driving forward. Not a big deal but cool. Both the new ones got rid of the camera mirroring and backup lines that the pervious units had. Can't win but overall the Pioneer is better.

It's the car. I'm a technician at a honda dealership and honda head units are the slowest. It actually irritates me with how slow they are. Something as simple as resetting the oil life on the unit isn't a smooth experience. It's a common complaint with all our customers. Unfortunately there is no fix it's a hardware thing.
Loads up amazingly quick on my wife's car. 2019 Audi A6.

Will a Chinese Android Head Unit ever work as expected...?

Hi everyone,
In 2017 I bought a Witson Android 6 quad-core PX3 unit from an European reseller. I was quite happy with the unit but after about one year it suddenly stopped at bootlogo. After several months of receiving nonworking advices on how to install new firmware I requested to get a new unit under warranty. Thereafter the whole discussion started to get ugly so I had to contact Witson directly in order to get the thing settled. Witson was kind enough to send a new unit.
The new unit is an Android 8 octa-core PX5 unit so I assumed it would have better performance than the old unit. After using it now for several months now I must say that it is worse than the old one,
- when installing additional software I could not get a stable connection to my wifi router 5m away, the wifi range is so poor that the only way to use it was to have my mobile phone as a hot-spot on the dashboard
- the radio reception is poor, only very strong stations work, all others suffer from frequent drop-outs
- the GPS is loosing the connection all the time and the navigation often goes completely nuts
The unit display info is,
Model px5(1024x600)
Android Version 8.0.0
Kernel version 4.4.93+ [email protected] #46
Build number px5-userdebug 8.0.0 OPR5.170623.007 eng.hct.20190219.093540 test-keys
MCU version MTCE_MX2_V3.13_1
CPU 8 core 64-bit CPU Cortex-A53 @ 1.5G
Memory 3891 MB
And here is finally my question - from your experience/knowledge - are all the problems hardware related or can any of them be corrected by upgrading the firmware/software?
I have now got so frustrated and used so much time with these cheap Chinese Head Units that if no-one comes up with any positive information about what could be done I will rip the unit out of the dashboard and replace it wit a branded Alpine/Sony/Pioneer/Kenwood unit.
Thank you in advance for any comments.
Go for the branded head unit.
Weak wifi is not uncommon. Read the forum. Did you try an external antenna?
Bad radio reception. Does your car have a powered antenna and if so, did you apply power?
You may want to try 3rd party fimware, e.g. Malaysk. They tend to be more stable.
I have had a GS unit, sold by XTrons, for more than2 years without.significant prpblems. Using Malayak firmware.

No I do not have an external antenna because there is no connector for it so I would have to open the unit and assemble one. I did not want to do that when I received the replacement unit in case the unit would have been faulty at arrival. Now I suppose I have to look for info about the issue.
Yes the antenna is powered and the power is connected. I missed the antenna power connection when I installed the first unit and had to remove it and connect the antenna power so I know for sure that it is connected now.
Does the Malaysk or Hal9k firmwares have modifications that make the units work technically better or are the modifications only in the user interface? Anyone have information on this?
