Hi,
I know that there is a discussion thread for 4.3 but instead here I'm interested in those that have or are thinking about downgrading back to 4.1.
I've been using Sony/Ericsson phones for years and most upgrades are good, but some aren't. One of the worst decisions probably was when they upgraded phones with 512mb RAM to 4.0. The phones became so slow that they were almost unusable. It was a perfect example of when an upgrade with an attractive Sony marketing appeal didn't work out well for the average user.
I upgraded normally to 4.3. The phone suddenly kept freezing until it could not be used at all. I had to remove the battery repeatedly. The next day I reinstalled the software via PCC to try to repair. The same situation. I changed the SI codes to other firmware. The same situation. I tried SUS and reset the phone entirely. This helped a little, the freezing is gone. However, there are a few annoyances I have left:
Why I'm Downgrading
1. Almost every time that I press the Home key, the screen stutters like it's having a heart attack. The screen kind of flashes white and black then eventually goes to home. What the heck is that?
2. I like the white UI but I don't like the themes or the dark colours in the SMS/phonebook. I much prefer the bright, happy colours of 4.1.
3. Everytime that I open the phonebook it takes several seconds. The phonebook is one of the apps supposed to be kept in constant memory. Why is closed and reopened all of the time? It's a primary function of a phone and it should work properly.
4. The phone feels slower, despite resetting the phone, repairing the software about 3 times. Why? That is not an upgrade.
5. People talk about the new Xperia Themes and yet they are broken. You have to unlock your bootloader to root to use a theme? That is insane and I'm not voiding warranty for a theme. It was a nice idea advertised by Sony about the 4.3 update (I have the screenshot) and now it is removed from the 4.3 advert. They screwed it up is why.
6. I cannot see any benefit in gaming graphics/speed/whatever else people want to imagine.
What I Need to Upgrade
When a new, major Sony update comes, I've often found it to be very buggy. But, some time later, a new, smaller upgrade comes that fixes many things I wait for that.
1. No lag.
2. No screen freezing / stuttering
Have you downgraded to 4.1? Are you thinking about it?
Please - this is for a genuine discussion with like-minded people. If you think talking about 4.1 is crazy, please no rude comments.
I agree.
And don't forget, the battery drains quicker.

I never upgraded due to there not being a root method for 4.3 with locked bootloader. Like I mentioned, there really is no reason to upgrade especially if they still haven't fixed the blue tint camera problem in low light
i think u guys are not installed cleanly...
becoz mine in 4.3 is awesome,no lag,opengl3.0 activated meaning lot of games which has more graphics will work smoothly,..
bug is themer, battery draining /...but themer has fixer...after that i love 4.3...lot of cool themes...i m using spiderman 2 now
may be sony will fix the both in next update...
4.3 has lot of ported camera,apps...
try them...even z2 camera is ported...
camera quality is improved and can be stored in sd directly ...[till now i didnt face blue tint pics]
I haven't got any issues that you mentioned. I updated my phone via Sony PC companion and then made a factory reset. Everything works fine except few little bugs like not working themes or disappearing Google now shortcut (but I like this bug because this nav bar ring sometimes is really annoying).
p.s.
About battery life: I totally don't feel any difference.
True, phone app doesn't keep in ram but it opens fast (like 2 seconds) so I don't care.

The only reason I'm not upgrading is because there is no full root for locked bootloaders , im just gonna have to wait

Oh yeah this is the biggest 4.3 issue because with root we can solve all other problems
Good to see others think the same. Also, because I repaired the software and did a factory reset a few times, I don't know why it would be a bad flash? I did try a few times.
I updated and honestly it's smooth and the battery life is equal or better than 4.1 and everything loads quite quick aswell so I'm happy with it at the time being

i just reverted back to 4.1.2, its better overall.
Guys I need urgent help. I cannot restore my sms and contacts after downgrading. I used my backup data from 4.3 using Sony PCC and the built-in restore utility of xperia M, both reports successful after completing the restoration, but after I reboot, I still dont have my contacts and sms.
Ok, right there is a performance issue but some other that op mentioned.
After few days of using multitasking is much more worse than after reboot. I've had the same problem on 4.2 Anyone facing this?

I always use online synchronization of my contacts. So I could change my phone without worrying of contacts.
I trust "youlu address book" for the same for more than 5 years. Actually I love its dialer feature.
we could download contacts to any phone (symbian, android, ios, windows)
Everything works fine here, I did a factory reset 3 days ago and haven't really encountered any issues yet...I can live without root for now, I don't currently have sdcard at all actually, I have a couple of bigger games installed(shadowgun, riptide, minecraft) and a small music collection and I still have 450 mb left. Battery lasts for 1 full day and a half for me, it's more than enough. Therefore, I'm keeping it.

Yeah this happened to me too. If you ever try 4.3 again, you'll see that it reads your SMS and contacts fine. So if it's backed up in 4.3 and restored in 4.1, those two parts don't come out right. Have you ever backed up contacts to your SD card?
If you have no other option, you would have to restore 4.3, restore the backup, then backup contacts to SD in phonebook and use an app to save SMS.

It's strange that some of us have 4.3 working great and the rest of us don't. Plenty of us here know how to flash properly, upgrade, reset or repair in bad cases. I do not know!
Can confirm the performance hit. Apps that are affected include Home (album widget loads noticeably slowly). Album app also loads images slower. Superuser permission requests seem slower (really odd). Also I noticed that Titanium Backup is not able to uninstall system apps (Had to use another app from Play). Will update my experiences.
Overall I also think the phone itself felt snappier with 4.1.2. The lockscreen music player access is absent in 4.3, though themes are a welcome addition.
I've decided to stick with 4.3 for some more time and see if I can work through. Downgrading to 4.1 is definitely on my list though.
thinking to downgrade to 4.1
As all greedy guys out there, i updated my xperia m c1904 to 4.3... 5 days back...
Thing i've noticed so far
1.Getting struck while pressing the home button ( like a jerk)
2.Missing google now on press-hold and drag on the home button.
3.The main reason i updated to 4.3 is for the colorful themes, which seem to be missing as the phone has to be rooted( i dont wanna screw my warranty ) for accessing those themes, so i'm struck with the default themes.
4. The album and the walkman player take quite sometime to open although there is no lag after opening. This is a minor issue i can ignore though.
5. The worst part of 4.3 is the disability of not being able to function the equalizer app to boost the volume. Yes, i am an audiophile and i'd like to listen at loud volumes in my earphones. Whichever equalizer app i install fails to boost the volume of the phone. I haven't found this issue in 4.1 so I might be thinking more for this reason to downgrade my phone.
6.Another worst part is the contact and the call log loading slower than 4.1, when i receive a call it takes about 5secs to display the name which i already have in my phonebook, this is plain annoying and disgusting.
I've heard a lot in forums that a factory reset might help. I'm resetting my phone now, will update if any improvements.
Thanks

Pardon me, how do you active openGL 3.0? Your wording seems as if there is one buried setting that I haven't turned on. I haven't noticed at ALL any improvements to my game, probably even more lag, but I ain't sure cuz I have really bad memory.
Keep in mind that OpenGL ES 3.0 won't make games magically run faster, you'll only see benefits if you run an game or app optimized to use OpenGL ES 3.0 (and there isn't many around -- right now I remember only of Dolphin emulator). Also, any ROM based on Android 4.3 will have OpenGL ES 3.0 enabled, there is no way of turning it off...
Anyone tried the new 104mb update that just come out, says it adds ui improvements and stability. Also adds kid mode.
Installed it earlier. Haven't really played with it that much yet. Still can't get rid of the magazine ui though. Seems OK to me so far.

but you guys know you can really minimize the impact of MagazineUX by removing all but one of the "magazine home pages", and then putting only ONE widget on the last remaining page (something low on resources; like Calendar!).
When I did that (removed all magazine pages except for 1, and only had 1 widget (calendar) on the last page) I no longer noticed any UI lag. I was pretty happy with it.

Hi there, it's my 1st topic here so if I do something wrong, please have mercy
Here's the deal. After copule of hours using my OnePlus 3 I noticed strange bug of my fingerprint. Everytime I try to unlock my phone from locked screen, fingerprint doesnt respond at first try, I can feel one short vibration and then nothing happenes. After I remove my finger and put it back again, it unlocks my phone. It acts like 1st fingerprint scan "wake up" device and second one actually unlock it.
I tried it on clean OOS 4.0.3 and 3.2.8, both using same, newest version of Nova Launcher.
I saw copule posts about "how to fix fingerprint lag" (change wallpaper for home screen and lockscreen separatly) but unfortunately, it doesn't help.
Also tried to turn off pocket mode, and other OnePlus feautres in settings, but with no success.
Another strange thing is, when I reboot my phone, fingerprint does work normally for copule next hours, after that the problem occurs again.
If anyone has other ideas, please share with me.
Are you rooted and using any apps like greenify or naptime
Using these apps can make phone to go in aggressive doze mode and fingerprint can become unresponsive
Other than that I can't think of anything
Yes, I am rooted, not using any battery saving apps, beside "AKT Profiles" mod (Im not sure how to call it). Could this be cause for this problems?
Link to mod if anyone is intrested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...-interactive-governor-tweaks-t3476589/page363
Hi again. Sorry if I didn't suppose to bump this post, but since I didnt manage to find fix for my problem, I thought I will post in here.
I just found out a video of problem, its not mine but I have exactly same situation on my OP3, as this man on his OP3T. Here's link to the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CarqQK3Uxws
If anyone have any ideas, feel free to suggest solutions, this problem is really annoying.
That mod makes your phone significantly less smooth, and they tell you to expect a ton of lag.
It's because of AKT.
What rom are u using?.
Now I use official rom from sultanxda (14.1 los), without AKT and other things, but same problem appeared on stock 4.1.3 and other roms.

No issues here.
FS is as smooth as ever.
But yes, on other roms FS did acted strange. Nothing to blame for roms though.

If its acting like that with all roms then it could actually be hardware related. Thats why i was asking . If you can try with stock rom or stock based roms i think yoh should open a ticket with oneplus
v.konvict, thought about it too, the thing is, copule days ago I did some kind of test, I installed fresh stock rom and configure it, left it with only default apps. After week, my problem didn't occure once. So my thoughts are, it's possible that one or more apps on my device cause this situation. But how to detect, which of >100 apps on my device is responsible for it?
Oh, and another one thing. Forgot to mention that this problem occurs ONLY when I leave device settle for i.e 20 min, then try to unlock it from flat surface. When I lock device with lock button, and then try to unlock it with FS, it works without problem.

Okay my best bet on which application that might causing this would be any app you dont get from the playstore that requires root access. Do u have any of those?
For what I see, I have Adaway + Adguard only, apart from that, my Nova Launcher uses root to DT2W and Solid Explorer to browse root partition. Nothing else.

Same apps as me except for the adguard part. Maybe install your apps 10 minutes apart to see when the issue starts
I installed Adguard recently, but problem existed before instalation. For my point of view, it has to be one of my regular daily apps, since "clean" rom doesnt have issues. The thing is, do I really have to install them one by one to test out which cause this bug?
Okay, I'm back again with another part of research. This time after fresh install of stock rom (Freedom OS 2.8) I changed one more thing. My phone was always in flip cover from OnePlus with extra pocket for credit card i.e. Now I removed my phone away from case and my credit card. Phone FS works great so far. I know it might sound stupid, but is there possibility or explanation if my flip cover and/or credit card near phone (when phone is in cover, card is always right next to it) cause this problems? Of course I'm not sure if this bug won't return in next hours, but for now all is working just fine, so I thought I will drop some of mine thoughts in here.

Okay, probably last update I put in this thread, since I fixed my problem permanently I think.
It turns out that cause of this problem was one app, which deliver bus schedule. After I simply remove it, the problem is gone.
So if anyone else has this kind of problem, I recommend start uninstall apps one by one (when problem is appearing atm) and after each uninstall, let screen turn off and try to unlock it with your fingerprint again. It may took a while, but it finally helped me at least.

I have the same problem with a S20 Plus after switching to Android 11. Laggy when switching from applications to Home. A little lag when opening applications on the Home section. I tried a hard reset, wipe cache partition but no change. It is possible to change the firmware to another country. Maybe we can solve the problem.
Yesterday updated fine. Had a problems with big lagging but today everything is perfect and smooth without any changes from my side.
It's big update so I made a factory reset
One of the first things I do any Android is turn off all animations in Developer Options.
Do the same on the PCs.
A need for speed.
So did I. But this is not a solution. Did you pay a lot of money for this phone to go into Developer Option and force your phone to work better? It's not like that? So it's not right what Samsung is doing with these updates. And on One Ui 2.5 I had the same lag.
It is very strange that many do not have this problem.

I reset the phone from Recovery Mode, I gave wipe cache partition and I still had lag. I hope it's a software problem. Do you think this lag comes from a hardware problem?
See what the cpu load is when it's doing this.
Turn animations see if it helps or not.
Does it happen in safe mode?

See if it's using excessive cpu or ram resources when that happens... if so track it down.
There may be something you missed, play with it.
Pay attention to any power management that is active, a known source of gremlins.
This is why when I have a fast, stable OS I like, I leave it be.

My device is S20+ Exynos Indian.
Have exactly the same problems.
Samsung always f#kc things up with gesture navigation, I mean seriously how hard is to leave it transparent ff$.
Lag while using swipe gestures is happening for me on Nova launcher. I never use one ui launcher.
I guess samsung is still lagging behind other OEMs when it comes to third party launcher support for gesture navigation.

Animations by their very nature always slow down a fast machine which is why I always disable them.
Backup all data now. When Androids crash many times the only warnings you get are slow performance and subtle stability issues.
The next boot could be the last on that load. Normally Androids are very stable... if it's a good load.
Try a network reset. Double check all settings and clear system and Samsung apks data as needed. You could globally clear settings but you might as well do a full reload at that point.
You can try running SD Maid to see if it gets rid of some of the junk.
You could try something I normally never recommend, a hard reset. It may not help at all or the issue will reoccur if it's an apk or settings issue to begin with.
If the OS has been heavy used or has had large firmware updates done, it may be that time.
It only takes one bad install/uninstall to screw up an OS. If the load is older then 6 months now might be a good time... nothing like a clean OS with only the apks you use and like loaded.

So the phone was ok on 2.5?
Could downgrade it back to 2.5 if so.
Probably too late to return it; if not do so!
Otherwise having Samsung look it over be the best bet.
If it's a carrier phone, time to start digging into them to make it right.
Sorry to hear of this...
Upside is you get to practice your assertiveness skillset. You can never have too much of that.

Nope. And on 2.5 he did the same. Do you think it's a motherboard problem?
On the other hand, is it really normal to always keep a phone with 0.5 x animations?

Yes, CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.1.A.0.533 (Android 12) was released ( https://xpericheck.com/XQ-BT52 ) 4 days ago, but according to the phone update check and Xperia Companion, no software update is available. However when CUSTOMIZED EEA 62.0.A.9.11 (Android 11 update) was released month ago, I got it right away, at the same release day.

Haven't had any technical issues per se so far, but am still struggling with the look and feel of Android 12.
i have been using the phone for almost a week now after the new update (62.1.A.0.533), i haven't done any factory resets, here is what i noticed:
1. Battery is draining a lot faster than Android 11
2. UI is a bit bulky, especially the toggle buttons. Definitely preferred Android 11
3. Screen Mirroring is not working for me. WFD service keeps crashing (that's a major issue because i mirror all my videos)
4. I had previously mapped the power button (click twice) to GCAM. Now it's not working. Only works with the stock Camera
Overall, a negative experience. I would not recommend the update.
If anyone else is facing issues please let me know

Post some screenshots of Android 12 on your Xperia, please.
Do you have separate toggles for wifi and mobile internet?
@Elberens, the same question for you too )
Hi guys, please keep us informed on how Android 12 behaves on the Xperia 10 III.
Hope that the battery drain reported by Elberens is just an isolated case, did you realized what is causing the drain? The app Better Battery Stats can help in detecting the cause of an abnormal power consumption:

I started BetterBatteryStats because I was missing the great battery history that Spare Parts allowed to call on Froyo. It has been a long journey since the first version. BetterBatteryStats provides an insight in following categories: - General...

I got the update notification yesterday and installed last night. So far I'm not having any technical or performance issues. All seems to be working. Still, I find the new UI a big step backwards in comparison to Android 11. Everything is so much bigger (menus, quick settings) using lots of dead space.
There aren't separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Mobile Data internet. You can't turn on or off with one tap. You have to open a submenu now...
The quick settings toggles are way bigger. You get only 4 in two lines when sliding down (or 8 if you slide with two fingers or twice). Which means that you will be needing an extra step for some actions.
I'm missing the functionality where on Android 11 I could use Google pay right away when holding the power button. Now there is a toggle in the quick settings instead (again extra step to use). Instead there is just a restart, shutdown and emergency menu if you hold the power button.
I don't get the new features of android 12 or it just doesn't seem to make a difference for my uses. The new bigger quick settings are annoying for me and if I had known before, I wouldn't have updated. If there was an easy way to roll back to 11 I would happily do it. But I guess I can't do that without flashing an older firmware on the phone. Maybe a future update would allow to make the quick menus a bit smaller?

I've read somewhere that after factory reset the separate toggles for wifi and mobile data internet would show up.
::edit::
Sony's Android 12 update has separate toggles for Wi-Fi and Data, but only if you factory reset
The Android 12 update for the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III ships with separate toggles for Wi-Fi and mobile data.

another way:
[....] if you want to get back a dedicated button to toggle your Wi-Fi, Mishaal Rahman shared a command on Twitter that you can execute via adb to get it back.
adb shell settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles),wifi"
Right this morning I got the message of a System Update from Sony (I live in Italy).
I think I'll wait some days before update, would be like to read more feedbacks on how the device behaves under Android 12, in particular concerning the battery draining, I quite happy with my Xperia 10 III that overnight (9pm to 8am) drains just a ridiculous 3%.

1) Recheck again app -s permissions, disable or uninstall unwanted ones, disable location wifi/bluetooth scan and wait for few days until the battery is calibrated and user habits/trends are known for the operating system.
Also You may try enable system cached apps under developer options -

2) It can't be changed, and you have to get used to it and hope that some update will fix/change it.
3) This is something new.
4) Have You tried XPERI+ for remap - https://github.com/ivaniskandar/shouko
You must agree this is a rather ingenious way of getting people to update their systems regularly. You're not told beforehand what the update changes, and only afterwards do you notice that the update was a downgrade in every single aspect. You want to swear that you'll never install a system update ever again, yet you know that you will have to do just that in the hopes that eventually some update will fix what the previous ones broke.
I must admit as much I agree that a proper changelog should be displayed before any update, I do like that android 12 update. Getting older (ok, I'm not that old) I'm pretty happy with the bigger/new layout

On the stock Android 11 you can make the UI big from Settings > Display > Display size. This is in addition to and separate from Settings > Display > Font size. So I still think the forced size in Android 12 was not necessary...
I updated my device on Saturday, everything went OK. I'm rather satisfied with the new UI, display size and font size can be adjusted as in Android 11, some aspects are nice, some others less, on the other hand it's impossible to create a UI that is good for everybody. There are a lot of launchers and ways to customize the appearance of a smartphone, so this is not a problem in my view. Apart from the graphical aspect, Android 12 brings new interesting features and I think this is more important.
I appreciate that Sony kept the media volume steps equal to 30, which is finer enough for listening music. At the moment, the power usage seems to be as before, my device drained only 3% overnight (9pm to 8am) as with android 11, and that's great.
The smartphone seems responsive and fluid, I didn't explored all the functionalities yet, but I would say that this update is OK.
Is it just me or do apps 'reload' more often after the update? I feel like caching of background apps is worse but I'm not sure.
Other than that and the combined internet toggle, this update is alright.
The overall app managing should be more optimized in Android 12, however you could try the above mentioned option in the Developer settings (suspend execution of cached app).
There are just a couple of commands to be sent via ADB the to restore separate wifi/mobile toggles, I'm waiting to see how is to deal with the combined internet one.

Noticed this too. For example, if I use "Simple Gallery Pro" from F-Droid to browse through some videos and I open a video with Kodi, then after I'm done watching the video and return to the Simple Gallery app, it will often reload, forcing me to navigate the folder structure once again.
I didn't have this issue with Android 11 - returning to the gallery app would bring me back to where I left when Kodi was launched. I'll try changing that setting mentioned above by @code010101 to see if it helps.
