Screen killing battery

You can lower your brightness if it is not already at the lowest setting.

Unfortunately, the galaxy nexus has poor battery life. You could also try turning off data when you don't need it.

the screen is at lowest and it doesnt make sense turning of data if the problem is from screen right?

I'm having the exact same issue. Screen is totally eating up my battery life. It took 30 minutes for the battery to go down by like 10%. And the screen is 40% of the battery life issue.

Maybe I just don't use the screen as much as you, but I don't find this to be true for me. I find it has great battery life. I don't sit for hours with the screen on, but I do regularly text and check emails throughout the day, do a bit of web browsing, take some calls, and play some Angry Birds or other games in the evening. The screen is always at the top of the list for battery usage, but even on an extreme day I still have more than 30% battery left by the time I go to bed. I throw it on the charger and I'm ready to go again in the morning.
I disagree that the Galaxy Nexus has poor battery life, in general. I would argue that: all high-end phones have "poor" battery life because of all the things they do (especially 720p screens), your personal use of it consumes a lot of power and you could benefit from an extended battery, or you have a faulty device.

hi there, i do that exact same things with no games, so less usage but i get less than a day... i love the phone but the batery is just no working...

I don't understand why people don't get that when you have a screen that is 4.65'' it will destroy the battery life. My screen use is always at 60% or more but yet I still get good battery life. The screen is going to use the majority of your battery when compared to other things, that's just how it is.

sorry but thats not the point, when you pay 700 for a top phone, that is suposed to be the google experience to carry arround wiith you and you can only get 10 hours of battery time something went wrong in the process...

Most phones are $600 to $700, and name one 4g phone that will last more than 10 hours with moderate use and no extended battery, just not going to happen. You need to reset your expectations.

GN battery is giving lots of trouble, too. I picked up the phone from charge and it was 100% charged. ! hour of usage with 3g on. Usage includes 1 hours or music and reading of pdf books simultaniously and battery is dropped to 61%.

I think you should take a look at every other android phone that has come out with the same specs in the last year. Everything from the EVO 3d to the thunderbolt have their default battery's not last more than around 6-8 hours with constant use because of the screen & processors.
THis is why Verizon offered the extended batteries at a discounted rate right off the bat, because default batteries have never ever lasted that long in topof the line smartphones. FFS the new iphone 4s I've heard from a friend that their phones don't even last 24 hours.
I have a galaxy nexus, and mine has lasted... let me see.. one sec...1 day 3 hours and 25sec's with 35% left. (of course I have the extended battery) but here's the kicker: the extended battery has basically the same back as the regular phone does. so if they so desired, verizon could technically put out another extended battery just like all the rest of the phones, but they might not do that. I'm content with the battery life as it is almost identical as the droid X from which I came. The only difference is since I have a lot of un-updated apps for ice cream sandwich one of them is using "mediaserver" A LOT. I'm talking about that being the top of my battery draining with the screen being second. They both have taken ~20% with android OS itself taking 13, PlayerPro taking 13, and other random things like calls and txt msging taking ~10% each.
So I would suggest not trying to watch a lot of stuff on your phone while on battery, or don't expect your battery to survive long while watching stuff on that great screen

hymn thanks for the feedback so the only solution I see would be to go for a bigger battery. I'm from Portugal were could I buy one and whays the power?

If your screen usage is less than 50%, it be more worried about what else is killing your battery........

So the M360's Battery life is great now... So...why are the SnapDragon Ones so bad?

This popped up in my head yesterday. I'm loving my M360 with it's latest update that just made the battery life insane for me. 15 to 17 hours with 60%+ Left. Woot
But Now I am wondering...
The M360 has the oldest processor smallest battery...Yet it now out preforms the G Watch and Gear live...? What? Really making the others look like a joke now.

We're just witnessing the power of software... if you have the latest processor you don't have to try that hard to get reasonable battery life.
But Motorola had bad PR from reviewers about battery life, so they were forced to optimize their code.
IMO, the fact that the life improved so much is what gets Motorola points for me. They could have made it just "good enough", but it feels like they really went all out hopefully they support this watch for a long time

Not sure where you are seeing they are being outperformed? If all things equal (both using always on set to off) G Watch battery will last much longer. The problem is that nobody compares the battery life of these devices using equal settings on both devices.

I took it off at 8 am, and right now it's 3:20 pm and I am at 40%.
And I was in school the whole day so i only checked my watch for time and notifications
I have ambient off, auto brightness and lvl 1 brightness

I just got this watch monday, so maybe the battery needs to set in, and I did get the latest update

My record is 50 hours with the simple watchface, ambient was off but I checked it plenty.

First day using the watch(got it yesterday). I finished school and I'm at 38% its around 5 pm and I took it off at 7:30 am. I used it a ton though, even showed off the little games to friends. Once it starts to set in, I'm sure I can get a day+ out of it.

I've gotten a good day and a half with this watch, it drains fast at first but as you use it, it will get better.

I haven't had time to check the various battery life threads, but has anyone (with good battery life experiences), noted whether during the majority of their
daily time with the watch - they are within connection range of their phone and indeed remain connected?
Just wondering what being out of bluetooth range/not connected does to battery life? i.e. is it similar to the situation when a phone is "polling" for
a Wifi connection or polling for a phone network connection but can't find one so the constant polling activity results in higher than average battery drain..

I personally think that the battery life discussion is one of the silliest there is. I have been always burnt by saying how great battery is somewhere. Was it Galaxy S2, HTC M7, M8 or now Sony Z3, they are never THAT good. However on Moto 360 I am really happily surprised. Even from the first day on I have never had problem with the battery. Actually I have yet to see sub 20%levels on the Moto 360. I get it off charger around 7AM and put it back 11Pm or 12AM. I usually have around 30-40% left. I use automatic brightness and ambient off. I do get a lot of notifications.
But the much praised Z3 goes to charger much sooner than this watch. Sure, I couldn't go on for the next day but it doesn't matter if I can make 20 hours easily since I never sleep with my watch on the wrist.

So, you are saying you get 5hrs of battery life and that's great?

i have noticed that having Facer and the other custom watch ups uninstalled (Facer especially) It helps me out with battery life big time.

Even when facer isn't running?

I've had the G Watch since it came out, and the 360 for a few weeks now. All things being equal, the G Watch goes an extra 12 hours easy, but it sure isn't as good looking as the 360, so it had been relegated to just morning gym sessions now.

My thoughts are that many of us get nowhere near those numbers, and you must be barely using your watch with almost everything disabled to get 2.35% per hour power consumption.
On my watch with latest firmware, reset after the firmware was installed, no apps at all, ambient mode off, step counter on, and default brightness, I cannot get below 3% per hour with almost zero usage, and hover nearer to 4% per hour with real-world (light to moderate) usage. At 17 hours, I would have at best 49% remaining, and more likely 32% remaining.
And that's with ambient mode off. Enable ambient mode and even with light usage and no apps at all, my watch will regularly fail to make it through a single regular, 16-hour day (that's the time between waking and sleeping with an eight-hour sleep cycle, which is the most a typical adult gets).
Also, what review have you seen with the G Watch or Gear Live using their latest-available firmware, so you can make a valid comparison? Because comparing the Moto 360 on its latest firmware against those devices on early firmware is utterly unfair and meaningless.

The Gear Live massively outperforms the 360 in regards to battery stamina. I don't understand how you guys are getting 50 hrs on a charge. I do like ambient mode, but I can still kill a battery in 12 hrs easily.

LG G4 - Pitiful battery life

I recently purchased a LG G4 Back In July , on Verizon, switching over from A Galaxy Note 3 (Tmobile). Honestly I really really like the phone, but I think the battery life is pitiful for a $700 dollar "Flagship" phone. I mean not once has it ever lasted the full day. I had to buy a spare battery kit, with 2 batteries, and days when im out from 6am to late at night, I go through 2 batteries, and have to put the 3rd one in. I mean , this is simply unacceptable for a phone like this.
Also, the camera is excellent WHEN it works. A lot of times, it doesn't take the picture right away, there is a delay, and many times it falls out of focus. This is certainly not the high quality camera they advertised.
I am hoping there is a way to fix these 2 issues, mainly the battery issue though because it is awful in my opinion. Is there any tweaks or fixes for these issues?

You've barely given any relevant information other than how unhappy you are with the device, so I would suggest that you elaborate on that.

You could inform us if you're a heavy/light user, if you keep NFC, LTE, Bluetooth, Syncing, Wi-Fi, on during the whole day or maybe if you are used to 100% brightness display. Maybe you should check in your settings what is draining your battery and provide us the info.
I'm having a pretty good experience with the phone so far. It surely lasts a whole day with 3:30 to 4h SoT. I don't even need/have a spare battery.

One person having an issue doesn't mean it's not a great camera. You'll find it's likely still the best flagship camera of any OEM.
Battery use is so dependent on which apps you run, which mods you have, how often the screen is on, what brightness, signal strength, wifi, bluetooth, etc etc etc...

I came from a galaxy s3 and reckon the battery on g4 is awesome. I use it solidly on internet for 2 hrs a day (to and from work), check messages etc through the day, usually internet at lunch. And then evening time check facebook etc over WiFi infront of telly.
I unplug at 6am and plug in around 11pm with around 3% left. I bought a 2nd battery and only needed to use it twice. It has to be how you're using it.

13 hours on battery for me today and still 71% left. Light usage but it does illustrate that the battery life can be excellent.

of course, you can get excellent battery life on every smartphone - just put it in aeroplane mode..
I get MAX 3h of SOT time on my G4 - this is with fixed brightness at 65% (at all times) and only wifi and 3g enabled (NFC, bluetooth and everything else is turned off all the time)
to be fair I have yet to own a smartphone that lasts me more than 4h SOT..
the thing that annoys me the most is the broken knock code used to unlock the phone - it works 20% of the time at best
its a completely broken feature LG has not properly addressed since launch of the device (I am on V10e software)

There have been numerous firmware updates since. Have you ever performed a full factory reset after getting those updates ?
If the answer is no, then this is one potential reason for poor battery life. What you could try is to clear the system cache in recovery. Note, i said system cache not apps cache. Idea here is when updates come in there could be conflicts and it causes the system to work harder. clearing system cache might help, if it does not then the only option is a factory reset and then a manual install.
not restore. You install apps in batches, monitor, then install more and so on. You can restore contacts etc. but apps themselves will have to be reinstalled. Sometimes apps go rogue and have to be reinstalled. Its hard to tell which app is causing the issue. Otherwise you could just reinstall whatever app that seems to be taking up more than it should be.

What are you doing on your phone ? mention apps.
How do you access the net. How good is your signal. What are you doing when you access the net.

What types of shots are these. It can happen with portraits some times. It will focus on the background behind the person instead of the person and the face becomes softer and the background very sharp.
For this set focus little above the chest instead of the face. If they are wearing dark clothing this will cause other issues so focus on something else at equal distance that isn't dark.
Always check the shot at the pixel level soon after you took it. Rather than at the end of the day.

Just to clarify: I had everything turned on for those 13 hours - wifi/data/bluetooth/GPS. I also made 2 phone calls and did a bit of Chromecasting using the BT Sport app for a couple of hours. Or to put it another way, I didn't take any measures at all to preserve battery life.

I used to complain just like you're doing OP ( @dredmentia ) and fixed it all with a Zerolemon battery .
Is the phone bulky/no leather back/not easy to handle... , it sure is but if battery life is crucial then it gotta get fixed.
End my day anywhere between 7 to 13 hours of sot depending on WiFi or 4g and high CPU freqs, tried light usage and hit 3 days with 12 hours sot. Snap/insta/twit/fb/periscope/... Nothing kills this battery in a day.
When and if we get a kernel I'll move back to factory battery at least then I know I'm in control of how CPU works coz while optimizing the phone for wakelocks that's the only thing I have no control over...
As for now I'm just trying to burn thru this battery every day so I can charge it every night...
Last phone was a Z3 Sony and that really grabbed my attention with its battery life in stock form, almost too perfect, Almost.

I keep the brightness extremely low way under 50%, or on auto., The battery still last a short amount of time. Its not acceptable

Then maybe something is wrong with the phone. I got also 4-5hr SoT.
It can't be just 2hr.

SOT SOT SOT - Am I going insane, or am I not(e)?

Well at least I still have my (shady) sense of humor.
Hey guys.
2 weeks with the Note 10+, 256GB/12GB - Exynos. I keep seeing those wonderful SOT reports. 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours! I'm not even talking about those posting screenshots of 12-14 hours...
They all use WQHD. They all use Facebook. They even use youtube and netflix, on wi-fi and on mobile with more than 50% brightness, and they all get at worst 8 hours of Screen on time.
Little me, on the other hand, uses mostly whatsapp and text, reduce his brightness when possible, check for hungry apps all the time, yet even on Airplane mode, I barely get get to 0% with 5 hours of SOT.
What am I missing? What is the magic trick? Is it possible that I'm having some sort of a hardware failure? Bad luck?
Don't get me wrong, 5 hours of sot, compared to my dying and evil LG G4 is still amazing, but I just can't wrap my head around this difference between exactly the same devices, this huge difference.

Don't worry mate, those 8,9,10 hours of SOT are for people who watch lots of Videos like YouTube etc on their device and seldom use camera or do gaming on their Phone. SOT is very subjective and differs from person to person. I get 5 to 6 hours of SOT myself and is pretty happy with it

As others said it's hard to compare, for example weak cell/wifi signal can discharge battery pretty fast even with screen off. After saying that, you should disable everything you can that you don't use. Also, forget SOT, see how much your phone discharges overnight when it's not in use. For example charge before sleep to 100%, wake up and see what's the charge after 6-8 hours of standby. If it's less than 94-92 %, then you may have rogue app than runs down your battery and finding it and fixing it may help you a lot.

No, it is not

Anything over 5 hours is not that bad imo! However, i would expect that the note 10 plus should easily be hitting 6 hours minimum for the majority of users depending on there usage! I have literally only got my hands on my device today and after about 30 minutes use plus a software update it has dropped just 6%

my .2 cents , if your phone can last long enough for you to achieve what ever you want to do achieve in day and without you running behind a charger then you got yourself a keeper .
so don't worry about SOT , standby time ... use your phone to its fullest extent and enjoy it

I can totally agree with that, but there's this little voice in my head (Well, there are plenty, but that's not our current burning issue), that's just keep telling me that it doesn't make sense that when both people use the exact same device, with almost the exact same settings, the difference will be so big...

but main culprit would be Radios ... so are you using same mobil service provider and living same locality then we can worry if comparatively the battery is life lower.

Me too.onmy have 5 hrs max sot, but I play around 1 to 1.5 hr of Intense gaming.

Living in a small country, compared to some people who use the same network in the same city (Maybe 5km from each other). Obviously, it's still not a purely scientific comparison, but it's something/

I used to wonder why there was a big difference between my battery performance and the ones I see on the net. Until I went to Taiwan for a vacation. My sucky battery phone then suddenly lasted the whole day. And that was with constant gps usage, constant checking, messaging, googling, etc.
I think the network strength and consistency is the biggest determinant of battery life given the same usage patterns. I live in the Philippines where the signal is not great which is probably why i get a lousy battery life compared to others.
However, the Note 10+ is giving me the best ever battery life ever. Out of all the phones I've owned, this is the only phone to actually surpass the 5 hour screen on time mark.

Signal strength affecting battery life makes sense, I have heard that before, but I have tried going a full day with just Wi-Fi, airport mode and no sim installed, and I got just the same results, so I guess that in my case, it's not related (sadly).

During my normal daily use, at the end of day I end with SOT of 3 to 5 hrs and 65-45% battery left. So absolutely I can get 8-10 hrs and this is with highest screen resolution, 50% brightness, GPS, BT, NFC, AOD and Edge screen on. You may have rogue apps running in the background and using your battery, did you check under settings/device care/ battery what is using your power, even if it's not very accurate, could give you some hints.

I check it constantly, no rogue apps whatsoever. I even did a factory reset, installing only whatsapp and disabling some Samsung apps, yet I still can't reach more than 5 hours of SOT, in almost "lab clean" conditions. Honestly, it's driving me mad.

The Exynos SoC is garbage.
I learned the hard way with the Galaxy S10+. I thought to myself: "I'll buy the Exynos version so I can have an unlocked bootloader and enjoy custom ROM's and all the good stuff!" Little did I know, it's tough to enjoy the good stuff with such crap battery life.
Snapdragon users of the S10+ were reporting amazing battery life, meanwhile I couldn't get 4 hours of SoT with very careful use. I decided not to make the same error with the Note 10+ and ordered it with a Snapdragon SoC. I can happily report 7-8 hours of SoT and it was only getting better. I'm back on the OnePlus 7 Pro because I may return the Note 10+ for the Galaxy Fold, but I am leaning towards keeping it because the camera is so damned good.
Either way, never buy an Exynos phone. I enjoyed my S8+ with the Exynos chipset, but made a grave error with the S10+. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you need the radio bands that only the Exynos version has - look into getting a battery case because you'll need it.

I just received my s20 plus for a week now and the battery life just like my old s7 edge after 4 years .. 3.5 to 4.5 SOT .
Is this normal ?

I hope.. i am afraid that the device has high power consumption design that with time should only get worse.

Give it 4 days to settle down. But yes it does drain faster than s10+. I knew that before pre-ordering but I thought Samsung would have figured something out...

Guys this is completely normal for the phone to drain this fast, the phone is learning all your usage patterns in order to adjust the battery, use this time to go over the settings and tweak it to your liking. Also in the s10+ forum there is a battery optimisation post, go over there and apply it to your phone. Also maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.
Another thing is if you just restore the phone from a backup, this can bring corrupted settings that might be the culprits do factory reset and install all from zero without a backup.

I had 7 1/2 sot yesterday SD 120hz

Second day, 120Hz is lovely but damn, I'm at home connected to my WiFi and it's draining like crazy, I'm worried how is it gonna look when I go outdoors to the college and will be using LTE. I'm on Exynos

I'm getting 2 hours of SOT through my day (7 am to 10 pm)

It's been a week that I've been using the Exynos version @ 120Hz RR. Battery life is way worse than S10+ on similar settings, tweaks and usage pattern.

I have charged my phone for the 2nd time and i get +- 5 hours of sot. I use everything on the phone, 120hz etc. The battery is still in the learning pattern phase...getting same battery life as I got on my S10+. I get roughly 24 hours with one charge and 6 hours is included when I sleep...The battery will get better. With my S10+ I got 24-36 hours of battery time with +- 3-5 hours sot...depending on usage...So if I can get the same or a bit better I would be very happy

True. Battery life is horrible. I don't want to use such a phone tbh

I'm reading pretty bad about the Exynos Ultra as well in different but reliable sources. It's a pain to have a primary driver that dies mid-day on medium usage, that era of "unacceptable batterylife" on a flagship is believed to be over years back. I remember me behaving in an uncivilized? manner with the ones who tried to defend Exynos S9+ in every online forum when the culprit was the SoC itself to start with..

no wonder they didnt want to enable 120hz at 2K res - it would kill the battery in 1h probably

7.5hrs screen on time? How? First person I've heard that high.

I have the S20+ with the snapdragon processor. I think the battery life is very good, way better than my P4XL. I have 4 hours sot right now and have 60% left. I'm using 120 hz refresh rate. I believe it has gotten better over time, either from "settling" or updates, or maybe my imagination, haven't actually checked but some nights I go to bed after a day of light use and I'm shocked at the battery left. I unplug at 6am and at 10pm I've seen 80% battery left. That's minimal use like I said, not a typical day.

I think the battery life is quite alright, on par with my second phone (OnePlus 7 pro)
Exynos/12gb ram/120hz: stranded on 12%, so it would be around 7.5hours of SOT in full day.

I have the snapdragon version and the battery on this thing is a BEAST!
Going on 34 hours off the charger and 7 hours of sot. I have done nothing to conserve battery. Loads of apps/accounts syncing. I am super impressed. Way better then my s10+ was.

120hz on, about mid-brightness, I'm lasting all day use with my personal usage habits. Battery life is as good if not a bit better than on my Note 10+. Snapdragon here on T-Mobile. Mostly WiFi. But it's only been about a week of use.
Can't complain at all.
ETA: Also BT always on using with my Frontier watch and Galaxy Buds on occasion.
