I've got a Redmi 5A running crDroid. I'm very happy with it, except I need something with more internal storage.
This phone fits comfortably in my pocket, unlike most of the newer phones which are too big.
Keeping a similar size and shape, what would be a good value upgrade from the Redmi 5A, with >16GB ROM, which can run crDroid or similar?
Thanks.

Hi
I had bought the Redmi Note 5 global version, but lost it since I was mugged. Now I wanted to order a new one since I really liked the one that got stolen from me. But I got thinking, since Xiaomi loves to release new devices very often, is there a Redmi Note 6 coming soon? I'd sure hate to buy the Note 5 only for the Note 6 to come after it with better specs and design.
Thanks!
Edit: Doesn't have to be a new phone from the Note series, any Xiaomi phone that will have a SD SoC, and preferably the same size battery of 4000 mAh. I don't really care much about camera.
Redmi 6 Pro is available. Notched with 5.84" display and 4000maH battery. SD 625 as usual. Check it out.

This one slipped from me! It looks great tbh, apart from the chin and the notch. I've never had a phone with SD 625, is it noticeably slower than 636 on the note 5?

No difference at all during general usage like playing light games, watching videos and such.
The game loading time will be a little more than rn5 pro.

yap , sd625 slower in big difference than sd636 , but sd625 more battery friendly. suggest you keep on redmi note 5 pro or wait for mi max 3 .
There is a difference.
It is Redmi 6, that is replacing the old Redmi 5 series aka Redmi 5, Redmi 5a etc.
The current 6 is NOT note 6, but plain Redmi 6 pro.
Note 6 pro is expected end of the year with 7xx SoC

In day to day activities, the difference is very very less. May be in gaming, it might be a little significant. My brother has a Note 4 and it flies along well with MIUI 9.
Redmi Note 5 is still a better option than Redmi 6 Pro imo. SD 636 is way better than SD 625.
Thanks guys
I guess if I'm going to wait, I'd better wait for the new Mi Max 3 which is coming with a huge battery and a better SoC.
I'm thinking about upgrading to a Redmi 5; the smaller variant with a 5.7" display and Snapdragon 450 SoC.
The problem?
While The Redmi 5 Plus (Snapdragon 625) has a TON of ROMs and GSIs; not to mention the recent Pixel GSI based on latest Android Pie which got me drooling; and other guides and how to do's; The Redmi 5 'Vanilla' doesn't have all that support.
For the past few days; I'm trying to locate a Treble Enabled AOSP ROM; preferably running Android Pie but each and every query take me to Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus or Redmi 5 Pro's article. Have yet to see one for the smaller sibling...
That's just unacceptable! I think Redmi 5 Vanilla is a better phone for daily usage thanks to its smaller dimensions, right?
Now; I've no choice but to buy the bigger variant.
"unacceptable"
Well the Plus variant sold more units, therefore more people are interested in ROMs for it, more chances for devs for the device. Just because you like it more doesn't mean it's better, as for the size, as you can see, people tend to like bigger phones nowadays.
Moreover, the price difference between the two doesn't give the Redmi 5 a chance against the Plus variant, at least in my region.
I know, on paper, its no contest, But I am trying to decide between Redmi Note 8 and Poco F1. The difference between them is only £40
These are the important factors for me, the first 4 are must haves.
Good Battery life
Good Custom ROM support (now and future)
Headphone socket
SD Card
Notification LED
Reasonable Screen
Reasonable performance, (no gaming and was content with Redmi 5 Pro 4Gb Snapdrgon 636 until it broke)
I know the Poco F1 is much higher spec, but I dont really like the look (ugly cut out at the top and big bezel at the bottom). Plus because Redmi 8 is newer, I thought maybe better support for custom roms, in the future.
What do you think ?
Hi,
I had the Pocophone F1 and I now have Redmi note 8. Yes the F1 is faster but the notch is awful. The reason I sold it was because of the notch. Redmi note 8 ROM support is really ramping up and the teardrop notch is so so much better because android notifications were hard to see on the F1. Save the money and get the note 8.
Cheers dude.
I had used poco F1 ,now I have redmi note 8 ,forget poco F1 which I sold it after 2 months
Out of interest, what did you like on Poco and what is better on Note 8 ?.
Thanks

Poco F1 was okay, tbh I didn't really like anything about it other the the SD845. Redmi note 8 is good so far with pixel experience Feb build. MIUI is something I've never liked but my favourite android is stock always, I love it's simplicity.
Cheers.
I have a new Note 8 Pro 6Gb Ram & 64GB, unopened.
However I have seen that I can now get the Redmi note 9S 4GB RAM (on promo) for the same price. The question should I order the 9S and return this one.
What is important for me is battery life, display quality and custom rom support. Overall Performance should be 'smooth' but I'm no gamer, just play the odd game.
Oh the size is important, I don't want anything too big. Just holding the Note 8 Pro, I am already thinking its already maybe abit too big. The 9S adds a couple more mm.
I guess future custom rom support for the 9S should be very good, it looks like it will be a big seller and having a Snapdragon CPU probably means more choice of custom roms ?
Any thoughts ?

Redmi Note 8 Pro is better

The 8 pro is better.

Redmi note 9 pro aka note9s is way too big. And the finishing is not as good as note 8 pro. The thick black plastic around the sreen is thicker than redmi note 8. You can see from the side.
You should keep note 8 pro.

Redmi Note 9 Pro is not the same as Note 9s. For example, Note 9 Pro has NFC. 9s does not.
I currently have the budget to buy a phone in the prices of the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 9, I am really into custom roms and I'm currently leaning into buying the Redmi Note 8 just because of it. Will the Redmi Note 8 still be supported by the developers here in the long run or are a lot of them transitioning in buying the new Redmi Note?
In my experience the redmi line have developer support during several years. My last phone was a redmi 5 plus (vince) and even today there are quality custom roms available (but there are not many options anymore). I bought a RN 8 recently and I think it is still a good device, especially considering that RN9 has a mediatek processor and the development for that device is going to be harder. Sorry for my bad English btw.

appreciate it, my brother just bought a Redmi Note 9, I'm not really feeling the size of the phone, plus I don't think there's going to be much development because of the processor? I guess I'll just go with this, the roms with the RN8 seems pretty great.
Take into consideration that Xiaomi is really delaying updates for this phone, even Redmi note 7 got updates sooner.
