Downgrade from Android 10 (OB2) to Android 9. - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Hi guys I wanna ask you if someone tried to downgrade from android 10 to 9, I really didn't like the gestures and other things in new android.
Right now in don't even have TWRP installed.
It's possible to just download the official rom and flash it with the normal procedure :
I mean :
Local upgrade and upgrade with the file?
I'm really retired about flashing customs roms, that's why I even don't have TWRP installed.

As far as I'm aware your only options are:
1. Use the unbrick tool for the 9.0 software (wipes everything) https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/op5t-collection-unbrick-tools-t3898890
2.find a rollback firmware on oneplus site (will wipe everything but can do through local upgrade option) https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117903378
3. Flash twrp (rather easy through fastboot) wipe system, data, cache but not vendor then install the desired oos software. (Will retain all the files on ur internal like downloads, images, folders etc and once the software has installed it replaces twrp back with stock recovery)
Twrp
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-8-0-8-1-t3729673
ROM

Personally the 3rd is the easiest and only choice for keeping files.
But if you don't mind losing everything then the second is the same as how you updated to the beta from what I can gather. if you want everything to be 100% like day one then the unbrick tool will flash everything including firmware, radios and so on but has to be installed on a Windows computer and then plugged in to phone

Have you had any luck downgrading? I am also not liking 10.

If you have twrp back up you can revert back without losing data.
Instal via adb twrp recovery again, copy oos 9.0.11 to root then dirty flash it , flash magisk if you dont want to lose twrp, then restore only data from backup. Remove pin before start anything.

AFAIK, you can't downgrade with stock OOS recovery
I'm now on 9.0.11 from OB3
Backup your data/apps, remove your fingerprint or PIN, flash TWRP, then install 9.0.11

[GUIDE] Reflash LEX727 With Stock ROM After LEX720 Update

I flashed the latest 20s Chinese ROM to unlock my bootloader and had trouble getting back to LEX727 19s ROM with a working SIM card, this what I did to fix it.
Goal: Get LEX727 back to 727 ROM from any Chineese Variant (LEX720) with a working sim card.
Logic: We need to get the phone back to as stock as possible so that we can flash dr4stic's ROM That will update from CN5.8.018s to US5.8.019s. First we need to install CN5.8.018s, but we need to do it from stock recovery, to get stock recovery back we use a TWRP backup made by suhridkhan, then copy the CN5.8.018s zip, rename it to update.zip and allow the phone to do it's thing It will take quite awhile to flash the stock CN5.8.018s ROM, but when its done we can then install dr4stic's ROM, but first we need custom recovery again, since we flashed stock recovery when we used the TWRP backup. So we reflash custom recovery (I recommend GrossoShop's TWRP as that is what worked for me, however others may work). Reboot into fastboot, fastboot flash recovery the GrossoShop TWRP, then we go back to recovery. Now we can install the upgrade ROM. Once the upgrade ROM is installed, we can reboot and we'll have a completely stock version of the LEX727 ROM with Stock Recovery. (oobe state)
STEP 1 INSTALL WORKING ROM
1. You will need a working ROM to copy the TWRP unzipped files to the phone (figure this out on your own, but you should already have something that works)
STEP 2 STOCK RECOVERY
1. Restore this TWRP backup
1. Send the unzipped files to your phone in TWRP/BACKUP/<Device_ID>/TWRP. (You need a working ROM to do this with USB, you can try adb pushing the .zip and adb shell unzipping but I had permisison errors. and found it easier to just move the files unzipped)
2. Reboot into recovery, Advanced Wipe everything except Internal Storage (where your backup is)
3. Restore from the TWRP backup, before restarting, do a factory reset wipe and dalivik.
4. Reboot, and you SHOULD be in the LEX727 Rom, however your sim card will not be recognized depending on the modem firmware you came from.
STEP 3 GETTING DOWN TO CN5.8.018s
1. Since we have stock recovery, we can now use it to flash down to the right Chineese ROM version for dr4astic's ROM update to work.
2. Setup the phone, and copy LE_ZL1_LEX720_CN_5.8.018S.zip, then rename it to update.zip
3. Install the update through the phone settings or browser. (It will take quite a while 15ish minutes)
4. The phone may reboot into an endless boot loop where it just keeps redoing the same startup flash, To get past this reboot into recovery and perform a "Clear data" wipe.
5. You should now be in the stock version of LEX 720 5.8.018s
STEP 4 USING THE UPDATE ROM
1. We need to flash a custom recovery again (I recommend GrossoShop's as that is what worked for me, however others may work)
2. Reboot into fastboot and flash your recovery software
3. Wipe everything, data included and reboot back into recovery.
4. adb push the update ROM and install it, wipe dalvik and do a factory reset wipe before restarting.
5. When you tap restart system from TWRP the phone will vibrate for about 7ish seconds, dont do anything, just let it do its thing. It will reboot and go to a black screen, then finish rebooting.
(this is perhaps the most risky step as we are returning to a stock ROM with stock recovery and might loose our unlocked bootloader)
6. You should get everything back to stock ROM with working SIM card and an unlocked bootloader.
note: I will be saving local copies of all the files required indefinitely, so if any of the above links break, I will re-upload.

Thanks for the information.
You seem to be using the links generated by the file hosting websites for you which expires very quickly. Please use the original links.

This is exactly what i need, however i have no idea how to do this. Sad.

Hi,
Your link to CN5.8.018s-to-US5.8.019s.zip is down. Is it possible that you provide this file again?
Thank you!

Seeking a better understanding

Hey all,
I'm trying to better understand what I'm doing with my phone here. Currently I have my OP3 rooted (aka unlocked bootloader, correct?) and on 8.0.0.
1. If I wanted to keep it rooted and reinstall the OS, is this as simple as downloading whichever ROM I want, copying it to my phone's internal storage, and flashing it in recovery using TWRP?
2. Is stock recovery (recovery_OP3.img on the oneplus.net website) the same part of the software as TWRP? As in the stock recovery is locked bootloader and TWRP is unlocked bootloader?
3. I've been searching for the most recent root guide, can I get a recommendation? I've read that SuperSU is not the thing to use any longer, but rather Magisk. Correct?
4. What is boot.img?
Thanks all

1. If you switch roms, always do a clean install (wipe all partitions) . If you want to get rid off all the mods wipe system and flash the same rom + gapps + root. You won't loose data since you are only modifying the system partition.
2. Stock recovery by Oneplus is as if says stock, you littery can't do anything with it apart from upgrading your OOS, wiping cache partitions and doing a factory reset. I do recommend the TWRP provided by Bluspark since that seems to be the only one I tried without any issues whatsoever.
3. Magisk is the new root method in my opinion, it supports Magisk modules which simply are mods that can be installed and removed with a single click (reboot required tho). You can compare it to xposed but very limited when compared.
4. Boot.img is your kernel, never flash standalone img files apart from TWRP since the kernel modifies more the only the boot img. Always flash the full zip.

Official TWRP will not be able to update with the OTA update, only with the full ROM zip. There seems to be some other recoveries capable of that but since I don't have any experience with them, I refrain from naming them.

Assuming that you are on 9.0.2 and want to update to 9.0.3, you wipe system, caches and data (excluding internal storage) and flash 9.0.3 full zip. Then boot back into recovery (without booting into system). You should boot into TWRP. If you do, flash Magisk and boot into system. If stock recovery over writes TWRP, flash TWRP image in bootloader (fastboot) and then Magisk and boot into system.
If you are on Oreo and want OOS 9, it is slightly more complicated. You will have to format data (take a backup of your files and transfer to PC/Laptop) and then boot back into recovery and then flash the ROM and do the steps above. This is because of encryption issues.

Yes I'm on 9.0.2 and want to update to 9.0.3
Is there any other way to do it without losing all the data?

Beware that there are some reports of the requirement of formatting again when updating from 9.0.2 to 9.0.3, though I did not face it. A backup is a must (on PC/Laptop, not on the phone itself).
I don't know of any other 'safe' way of doing it without data loss (assuming that by data, you mean internal storage).

You cant update with OTA updates, you need the full rom.
I dont know how you updated to (8.0 to 9.0 the first time),
i unrooted and reset my prone while still on 8.0
and then i updated to 9.0 with official recovery after that i installed twrp and rooted with magisk.
If you dit anything different you might run into problems.
1. Download and update to the latest magisk in TWRP. (If you already have it installed skip this, but still download it to a folder on your phone).
2. Download the full rom to your phone, full rom here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/rom-oxygen-os-9-0-3-android-pie-oneplus-t3937636.
3. Install the rom with twrp, no need to wipe anything.
4. Right after install the latest version of magisk.
5. Reboot your phone to system.
6. Wait until phone starts (it might take up to 7/10 minutes).
7. Done

Need guidance to flash custom Rom on stock A11

hi there, i just picked up the second hand Taimen.
I've already unlock bootloader & root by magisk.
also have latest twrp installed...
phone at stock A11 & encrypted status.
i need some info as this is a/b device like my MiA2.
1. if i wanna flash custom Rom, do i have to format internal to get decrypted? or there's any options to just flash DFE zip like my poco F1 so i don't need to format internal.
2. where can i get complete guide to flash custom Rom?
3. is it mandatory to reflash twrp after flash any of custom Rom or kernel to stick twrp as permanent recovery?
thanks in advance
fyi, i have no PC. I've done all that mentioned above with other phone method (use Bugjaeger app)
got it...
so it's exactly like MIA2 & i don't need to format internal (factory reset).
now running DotOS, root, TWRP installed & encrypted.
everything works like a charms

MIUI 12 OTA Update In begonian LR TWRP 3.3.1.0.

I'm trying update from 12.0.1 to 12.0.5 with TWRP recovery.
"Package expects build fingerprintof redmi/begonian this device has begonia" This error is coming.
I Removed the fist line which checks this from updater script. still this error is coming.
The Questions I have .
1) Is is possible to do OTA update without loosing apps/data?
2) Can i Use the image from this link Here ?
3) If i can't do the above should i flash the full rom from Here ?? Is it possible to do this without loosing apps/data?
4) Is there any other recovery that supports flashing the OTA rom?
1) OTA won't erase your data
2) You should install the correct OTA distribution for your phone. If you have begonia then flash begonia. So does for begoniain. Unless you are flashing fastboot ROM, it will count as switching region and are totally fine with UBL. How do I know which device am I? Refer to about section in settings
3) Dirty flash for MIUI in mi flash with same region distribution is fine. Even downgrade from A10 to A9 is completely fine (but some apps may show weird behaviour, for this case, factory reset is recommended). I've done it many times (stable global to stable global).
4) It sure can but I wouldn't recommend. It will lead to bootloop. I will recommend to flash stock recovery and do the update via miflash pro with full recovery rom. I also recommend to completely remove magisk prior update. Carrying over your magisk+magisk hide+magisk settings+it's module is fine, but I recently discovered incompatibilities that leads bootloop when switching off magisk hide that carried over from previous update on 12.0.7.0 global. You can re-install everything after update
