The requirements are simple – everything should just work fine. Requirements include games like Subway Surfers and such, browsing the web, YouTube and working camera. For me I am getting a Mi A1 or Redmi Note 5 Pro (I don’t like MIUI though but for the price I can compromise and it seems the best choice, there are no other options at that price, please suggest if you have other device in mind. Also in future I can Install ROMs on Note 5 Pro also, so yeah).
Below are my few ideas:
Stock ZUI EN 2.0.133 ST because it is more stable than Nougat variant. With ZUI I am planning on installing the Material Notification Shade app to fix the disappearing notifications icons issue but in my testing I found it to be using almost 50% of the battery, therefore I am scrapping ZUI idea. Also ZUI feels a bit cluttered too. If the notification shade app can be made to consume less battery then I will go with it though. I know ZUI with Oreo is around the corner but it's ZUI after all.
I am currently using AEX 5.2. It is quite stable but has good overnight battery drain, like ~15% sometimes. Yesterday I slept at 3 am with 82% and woke up with 68% battery at 10 am. Also there is the camera problem. I have been using the Modded GCAM and it is GREAT! Only problem is the videos, unusable slow motion and normal videos come dark and they are unusable as well. BUT for videos I use OnePlus’ camera app and it is good but I can’t see mom using camera without getting confused So I am ready to forgo the camera2api magic and install a non-frills camera.
So for Camera please suggest an all-rounder workable camera application that I can install in the system or as priv-app and also any suggestion for the battery drain.
I am looking at some other ROMs as well. I want to test some ROMs that just work. I have been hearing about ViperOS and H2OS for some time that they are great. I just need a ROM that will work, no bells and whistles needed. So please Suggest some ROMs.
If you have any other suggestion then please let me know.

I did use 4.6 way back and here is what i found if i recall:
In notification shade when you swipe the notification it stutters.
I don't remember about the heating issue though.
It was stuttery in general now that i remember, i had to flash Heliox Kernel for the heating issue and there was no improvement in the performance.
4.4 was quite good if i remember it correctly.
Anyways thanks i think i might revisit this ROM

I just flashed ViperOS with stock gapps. Too much heating and user interface stutter and lag.
I do not have any battery drain. 1 percent at nigth on airplane mode . Check ur apps.
8 h of sot on aex 5.2.
you can use deodexed zui 3.5 oreo oreo zui is far better than nougat zui
I have to say, just ask your mum about her preferences of what she likes to use out of the phone.
And install barebone AOSP-ish rom with adblock/popup block/youtube ad-block on it. Then get her apps installed and she'll be happy. No complexities whatsoever.
Our elders aren't picky as us , my mum is using an LG G3 and its been on fulmics rom from day one, and it works perfect for her because all she does is follow up daily news, youtube, browse some internet, watch some episodes and thats it.
Also a 5.5" or 6" screen is ideal for our elders because of good visiblity of text etc.

For stuttering issue, use HelioX kernel. You'll get the best performance+battery efficiency out of AEX 4.6.
If you want good camera, flash this camera oss.zip from here and use Pixel Camera mod by Arnova. Then you're good to go.

Adaway for adblock (it blocks adfly links too)
YouTube adblock is Xposed module.
Popups and their popup links are blocked by adaway too , well most of them.

I don't remember the build date but it was named "Final N" at the end. That's the build I flashed and had such experience.

I'm using the rom as it is, with its own kernel (it's heliox btw). The rest is up to you, I'm using gapps pico, magisk just to have root and remove ads with adaway and gcam mod
just use viper os 3.1.1 with heliox 10/15 ..
Nitrogen OS Would be the Best! But there isn't any solution to Dark Videos as yet. Still you can use Proshot or Footej Camera for the Job.
I have tried Pie roms but they are not as stable as Oreo. Especially in games like PUBG where there are glitches.
Anyone else on a stable Oreo rom? Which rom and why? (Do mention Android version to avoid confusion.)

I'm on bootleggers 3.0 last oreo build with derp 2.8 Kernel i tried almost all ths oreo ROMs and this one is my favorite , you should try it once :good:
yes,
I am using Cardinal AOSP and pretty much happy with this ROM ! :fingers-crossed:
you can try it
Yaps i still on orea , i have tried most of pie rom available for our device but all of them has some kind of glitches and not enough customization as in oreo ,so i will stay in oreo untill pie rom as stable as oreo and has enough customization.
yep, still using aosip oreo rom, it's the first rom i flash after unlocking bootloader, pretty much stable for my daily use
I'm still on AOSiP Oreo, pretty much since I've bought the phone back in June (used RR for some 10 days maybe), and have briefly tried Pixel Experience, but back when it just came out.
Oreo roms are still more stable than Pie, although for my kind of usage I could even go for Pie, but I don't want to give up Xposed just yet.
It would be nice to have another update for Oreo roms with updated blobs, but I guess exactly 0 devs share this opinion so there's that.
@Cirra92
What"s wrong with AOSP PIE roms ? I"m using PE right now. Apart from "not perfect" standby battery drain, broken manual network selection, broken 5GHz hotspot and that time when MIUI camera refused to record a video (fixed it by rebooting the phone) there isn"t much to complain about. PIE roms seems stable to me

Well I didn't state anywhere that they are unstable, I have just said that Oreo roms are still more stable which means more refined and bugs (mostly, or at least the major noticeable ones) ironed out. You have named couple of bugs already, there are also couple of bigger ones, not supported SD card formats, unstable network handoffs (4G->3G->2G), some roms have WiFi bugs. And that's normal, count in the time put in Oreo roms, and on the other hand Pie roms, as with each major Android release, new bugs arrive, some harder to fix, some easier.
And another note I want to make (mentioned in previous post) that for my particular usage, Pie roms are probably suitable enough, though it depends when will I decide to switch and give up on GravityBox and XInsta (mainly the latter).
Pie roms are certainly getting polished, and are already daily driver material for most people, but still, not everyone.
Revolution OS in combination with latest Deep Kernel.
Perfect for me. Smooth, no lags, fast and awesome battery life
Hey,
I have a Poco F3, I unlocked the bootloader recently, and I want to know which ROM should I get or is the best for you. I tried xiaomi.eu, but I prefer AOSP/pixel (I tried some, but I can't make a choice). What is the best, I know for now there is crDroid, Pixel Experience Plus but unofficial, Pixel Extended, etc Should I wait for more stable, official or new custom ROMS ?
What are the pro/cons or features of each ?

Edit : anyone can share his opinion here and/or ask on this thread

Thanks in advance !
In terms of features you can't get more feature rich then crdroid. Most ROMs are rock stable and the one main missing feature dt2w is going to be coming in the next week or so. I'm currently using pixel extended and I've had no problem and am thoroughly enjoying it

Running Lineage on mine, with Quantic kernel, Micro-g, I am getting insane battery life, This phone has been an amazing upgrade for me after being on Mi6 for over 3 years.
for a beta Build, I have yet to run into a single issue, everything is running smoothly.
I have the feeling this phone will receive lots of love from developers and will have custom roms for years to come.
Edit: on my build I have finally fixed battery drain when, double tap, ambient pick-up, or AOD is enabled, it makes no difference, my phone dozes beautifully at night. How is it with other ROMs?
The key for me and everyone i think is the kernel, no matter what I changed with the original kernel that comes with lineage the phone gets no doze, only when I use Quantic + Lineage everything is 100%.

Also, have you had issues surrounding running apps like Google Maps or Kodi? They install and boot up but crash seconds later.

Have you guys ever experienced any lags in the UI?
Especially when I'm unlocking my phone, opening notifications shade or going to the recent apps screen (with gestures), it's like I'm using a very old device with a 1 GB RAM and It's driving me crazy!
I used to set up work profile using Shelter, turned off MIUI Optimisation (to have the REAL always-on display) and was using super wallpapers somehow and I thought it makes my phone slow.
Today I did a factory reset, and guess what, nothing was changed!
Even at the very first step which I didn't even install any applications, lags are clearly visible.
I'm using the stock ROM and never tried to unlock the bootloader or flashing custom recovery.
Please help me. I've tried any possible solutions including factory reset.
I even compared this device with a Mi Note 8 in the same condition and the Note 8 had a better performance. Or maybe these lags are normal on this device!
Do you have any idea?
Thanks.

On latest build(global rom) right. But it only happen when the battery level is below 60%. I noticed it and moved to custom rom because of it. Install cpu frequency monitoring app like devcheck, the big cores are turned off(hotplugged), that's the cause of lags. Above 60% battery, everything is normal(no hotplug). I have no idea how to fix it, assuming that it's a bug.
Yeah, the UI after 12.5.5 update definitely lags, which is disappointing.

I'm not using camera that much, but both stock camera (which has very little functionality) and Gcam for Mi11 lite works.
Honestly, flashing PE android 12 has fixed most of the issues I had with this phone (framedrops, weird miui power saving that limits some apps to 60hz for some reason, overall smoothness and speed, weird auto brightness...). Its just a better experience for this phone in my opinion. MIUI is only decent on phones with high end chips and even then its kinda bad.
I realised that using Super Wallpapers on xiaomi.eu ROM causes lags and bugs.
Lags are gone after I set another wallpaper.

Never used Super Wallpapers myself, I doubt that was it.
In my opinion this version of miui 13 is still not working perfectly. I mainly noticed several problems with the smoothness of the system that don't exist in Miui version 12.5. Yesterday I installed the PE12 version and I have no complaints, great battery and performance.
Custom ROM users, which ROM are you running?
I've noticed that there are a few ROMs that don't list their features and people are just supposed to know which ROM will suit them, unless they want to keep reinstalling new ones and testing them all out.
All (almost all?) of the ROMs are based on AOSP, so what sets them apart from one another? What makes a ROM worth choosing over the others, for you? What features do you like of your ROM? Let me know!
If you are using a ROM not listed, post below
Kinda hoping some folks comment on this in addition to taking the poll. I'm considering switching to a custom ROM, but there are so many and I don't know which ones would be a good fit for me.

What's unique or different about them vs. stock? Any particular reasons you like either one?
I prefer the AOSP type roms both very snappy
Running crDroid, which is taking after the Pixel interface. Very stable, customizable, good battery management without throttling in games (at least for the ones I use). Definitely becoming my daily driver.
The only thing I'm missing is the original camera app from Oxygen OS/Color OS 12.
I recommend having MSM tool already set up and drivers installed before flashing custom Rom, although following the instructions, you shouldn't run into any issue. This will make it a lot easier in my opinion if something goes wrong.
I'm personally using Nameless at the moment, and is pretty nice. It's different then oxygen os 11, but pretty good. It has an ota update in settings like stock.
There are some really nice options at the moment, and am very thankful for the devs time for each one of these Roms.
Like previously mentioned, there is not a Oxygen camera port yet that I'm aware of with all the features like stock, but maybe soon. Wireless charging is slow, and a few minor bugs(like really minor). Overall very very nice. Thanks for reading, posting, and I hope this could be of some use. Thank you sincerely to all the incredible devs on the OnePlus 9 pro XDA forum.
crDroid too. I like it more than stock C44. The one and only ROM, which installation is flawless. Any other ROM is plagued with 'Cannot read' issue.
Now I run "Nameless"
For me is the BEST ROM out now for OP9 Pro ( I've tried all others ROM's to )
Most stable
I use Visible cellular service. The only A12 rom that has been compatible Visible is crDroid. I don't know what is done differently with it. I've tried them all and it's the only one that works for me.

Those that have chosen a ROM such as Nameless or crDroid, the reason often given is stability. Is this the main reason, or are there unique features for each ROM like there are between different phone manufacturers?

crDroid: You have some customisation features in a dedicated menu, the wireless charge is fully operational, battery optimization is great, everything has been working as intended so far. I feel at home using it.
I tried all of these ROMs but Derpfest and Paranoid are the only rom I didn't experience frequent stuttering. I prefer Derpfest because of its completeness and customizability.

NikGapps-ag12-arm64-12-20220314-signed for the Gapps package.
And I don't use the Google call screening, so I can't answer on that.
Spark os right now and cherish os before that.
Tried almost all of them, they're all a mess imo.
Nameless was the most stable and had all the basic needed features like choosing the display resolution, min/max Hz.
Stag reboots and gives crashdump too many times
Crdroid is extremely laggy, has a lot of features but lacks basic ones, huge battery drain
PE/Lineage too many stock apps freeze, stuttering, doesn't feel smooth
Derp was ok-ish
Nameless probably the best when writing this.

I checked on their official branches websites... They are not available for any phones of the OnePlus 9 series.
