Will deleting Whatsapp delete the media in Photos/Whatsapp folder?
Also wil using App Data Manager to clear data be more helpful? I want to free up some space but I dont want all the pictures to be deleted.
Has anyone done it?
If it's related to a folder within your local user storage then just simply make a backup of these photos. If it's about application data (photos within APPDATA dir) - yes, you'll lose everything by uninstalling the app.

Hi all, my 4 GB microSD is gone forever! Now I will buy a new one, but what I must to do to replace all the apps that (with Froyo) I had moved on SD?
Phone: HTC Desire with official OTA 2.2 Froyo (no root)
Thank you
If you didn't backup the .android_secure directory on your SD card, you will just have to download everything from the Market again.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave, I have not a backup of .android_secure directory I did not know this details.
There is some online docs to know the directories and how them are used?
I will try to reinstall from market just I will have new microSD. I am worry for some app that works but some file was on SD.
I'm not aware of any specific online docs that go into this sort of detail.
Once good solution though is to download AppBrain, and sync your application details the web. If you have to change phone, you can then resync your apps back to the phone again.
Regards,
Dave
I had AppBrain, but was never registered!
I can reinstall all applications, there are no problems, but I would try to think for future use what wrong could happen.
An application have its executeble files, there are SQL Lite datas, could be setting files and cache too. When I move an app to SD (with official Froyo option) only some datas are moved.
From Android SDK docs: "The .apk file is saved on the external storage, but all private user data, databases, optimized .dex files, and extracted native code are saved on the internal device memory"
Then I lose my SD with installed app. I have seen that it is possible simply (re)install the apps (from market), but this "see" its old data or overwrite in case its old file on the internal memory? All other data are kept?
I suspect that some apps have added file, because my space in internal memory is lower than before with the same apps installed.
Perhpas some apps have not saw his old data and have installed twice?
It is more secure to uninstall and then reinstall? I have tried to delete only data, but error occurs, instead uninstall works.
I think that uninstalling app I lose all app's data.
Thanks
So I use Root Explorer to delete unwanted system files from /system/app and /data/app. After deleting the apk files, I noticed that there were still related files of the apps I deleted in /data/data (like com.htc.WeatherWidget) as well as in /data/dalvikcache/system, like @[email protected]@classes.dex.
My question is, what constitutes a thorough deletion of apps? I think merely deleting apk files in /system/app and /data/app is not enough, as I noticed a boost in free memory after further deleting in /data/data and /data/dalvikcache. Are there other directories to clean up?
I noticed also that wiping (and letting rebuild) Dalvik Cache after removing Large progrems frees up more memory.

Some of apps has libs as well /system/lib, after cleaning up just reboot the phone and dalvik will setup on its own. try to look other q/a
davebugyi: You mean cleaning up Dalvik-cache from Titanium? Or wiping from Recovery? Or are are they the same thing?
kotag82: what do you mean by "q/a"?

I recommend to do it from recovery. On this is guaranteed, there are no processes which can block this cleaining.

No, not from titanium - I always do it from the recovery (if it's necessary).

True, true. I even downloaded 3 new games and a dictionary afterwards, and my phone idle memory, which used to be at 115-120Mb, shot up to 180-190Mb after I got rid of about a dozen system apps like Stocks, Weather, MagicSmoke Wallpapers, etc.
Thanks guys!
I'm about to switch Roms but want to know how do you backup the data ie Titanium backup, pics etc....
I mounted the Nexus to my pc, backed up the nandroid, pics, but for some reason can't see the Titanium Backup folder, I can see it on my phone, but can't see the folder when i mount.
Any info?
Thanks!
Have you installed Titanium Backup from the Market yet?
One of the lovely things about MTP... Download an app called SDrescan from the market which will force the Android media server to rescan files on the virtual sd. This will allow the phone to index any file changes and then they will show up on your computer.
Also as an FYI doing a wipe from CWM will not erase the contents in your virtual sd card. Although it's good to backup the contents in there to your PC anyway.
Thanks Silow!! That is the answer I need!
Hello guys, I'm thinking of switching from MIUI to LOS or Syberia. To do that I need to format the /data partition. I really don't want to re-install all my apps again, so is there a way to restore the data partition not as an image, but as file structure? I have TWRP backups but they're images of the partition. Do I need to install Titanium Backup or similar?
What would be the best course of action here?
Thanks in advance!
Try migrate on play store

Play Store indeed has a list of all the apps I have installed. However all the data that's in the app's settings will be gone.
Here's an example - I use a Launcher app. If I re-install it from Play Store, all icon arrangements, wallpaper settings, all other settings within the Launcher will be gone.
What I'm trying to achieve is once the /data partition is formatted, ideally I'll just need to copy paste the data (files and folders) back in again. Partition restore won't work as it will mess up the LOS (or any other non-MIUI OS) installation.
The TWRP backup gives me an image file, which can be extracted to apps and folders, but I'm not sure I can just copy paste that over to the /data folder(partition). Main concern is permissions. Would they be automatically set on OS boot?

Titanium backup is hard to beat. You can copy your back up folder onto your pc and copy it back over after the wipe to restore your app data.

He actually means Migrate as it's an app on Play Store. The app is sort of like Titanium Backup but free.
Sent from my MI 5s using Tapatalk
Thanks, I misunderstood the reply. Migrate indeed looks like the app that will do the job. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks again!
Quick update - I am now on LOS 16 and used Migrate. A few apps gave errors (Telegram is one of them) so I uninstalled and installed them back from Play Store. But that's nothing really. I loaded the launcher amd saw all my icons back where I left them... Amazing!
What is the best backup solution that can backup appdata and apps and system settings?
Google backup? I've been wondering this myself, but haven't found anything but Google's backup/restore. :|
For apps and their data, i suggest SwiftBackup. You connect it with your google account for cloud backup (paid) or create a local folder that you can tranfer to usb drive (free) and use it to restore back to your phone or any other device.
It also backs up call logs and messages and wifi networks.

I bricked/un-bricked my phone last night and successfully restored all apps and data with Migrate (NG version downloaded from their telegram channel). Not sure about system settings... I prefer a clean start with those so I didn't try.

+1
Migrate is also a viable solution. I had a problem with their sdcard enabler on another phone so used swiftbackup instead. Very satisfied.

The best I've seen(must be root) Swift Backup(Google play store). You can back up messages, call logs, and most importantly apps, app data, ext data, system apps, ext data. Awesome app and easy to sync to dropbox, drive, etc.

Thanks for this - Question - Can you still get all app & ext data without being rooted? (Yes I'm a root idiot, sorry)!

I had issues with Migrate on an older phone as well (OP 7Pro) , but so far on this phone it has been solid.
Does anyone know of any apps that can do incremental backups of only modified data? I've used Swift Backup but it doesn't seem to be an option. Swift has an option to back up only "updated apps" but I could care less whether the apk was updated... I'd like something that can back up only apps with modified data on a nightly basis, the way I used to do with Titanium Backup on earlier versions of Android.

Did not see any option for that in the app. You can do it manually by renaming theold backup folder and redoing existing backup option. I think that would work.

Wouldn't that just back up everything again? Or maybe I don't follow what you mean.

Yes, back up everything again but since you rename the old backup folder you end up with 2 incremental backup. At least that how i see it but it would be a pain to do that if you want nighly backups.
The only other idea may be to set a scheduled backup (paid). Just took a look, it say you can have customisable backups in premium (which i don't have) maybe someone can tell us what that contains?

You're talking about multiple backups, I'm talking about incremental/differential backups, where only modified data is backed up. The purpose is for smaller size and faster backups so they can be run daily or even multiple times a day. I save my backups to google drive and "all apps" is about 20 GB for me. It's insane to upload that much every single night when most of it hasn't changed, but I want my backups always up to date for the next time my phone is bricked unexpectedly. I do have premium, but the option to back up only modified data isn't there. I'm looking for an app that can do that, like Titanium Backup did flawlessly.
