High battery usage detect apps: - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I have a Samsung Gear S watch paired with my phone, for the past few months, the WeatherProvider app and Gear app always causes the above message "high battery usage detected. tap here to resolve the issue" - to resolve it wants me to put to sleep, if I do that, then the weather won't update. However, I'm not seeing any high battery usage............I just can't get this message to disappear otherwise and I've made sure that these apps never sleep.............any suggestions?

I had the same issue with another app, "date on status bar", I removed all battery optimizations for it, enabled the background check for it and now no message appears

Issues with notifications, late or don't recieve

I have been using the phone for about a week, running the latest version. I have noticed a lot of times I am not receiving notifications properly or consistently. My phone is pretty notification busy, so I notice when I'm missing things.
I came from a Nexus 5 phone running Lollipop, so this is my first experience with Marshmallow. I have a feeling these notification issues are due to the new power saving / deep sleep features in 6.0.
Here are the issues I've noticed so far.
- Hangounts : received notification for hangout message (not sms), opened app and it said "received 10 minutes ago". Phone was in my pocket, hadn't looked at it for a few hours.
- Ebay : no outbid notification, was outbid overnight when my phone was not plugged in and left on my desk.
- Life360 : Was not showing up on the map for location tracking when checking from another device. I opened the app on my phone and it reconnected. This happens consistently.
- Sleep Cycle: Alarm does not go off if the phone is not plugged in to a power source. When I unlock the phone in the morning, the alarm starts ringing (even though it's late).
- BaconReader : No message notifications until I open the app, or late notifications (delayed over an hour).
- CSipSimple : SMS messages are not received when phone is left overnight (this is a IP phone with SMS messaging through an SIP provider, all data related).
Email seems consistently good, which is nice. Social media apps I haven't noticed an issue yet, but I'm not really busy using those.
I tried re-installing some apps. I've also tried setting the app notification settings under app settings such as "Treat as priority", "Allow peeking", and "Wake".
Any one else? Any recommendations?
I searched and found:
Email notifications and touch screen problems after Dec update.
Missing SMS Notifications
have you restored some of those apps from a backup of your old phone? if yes, consider a fresh install of those.
else, try turning off doze for those troublemakers, maybe restart your phone, and see what happens during an appropriate amount of time. do this by going to settings -> battery -> top right corner menu -> optimisation.
I did restore the apps from backup. Some that were causing issue I did uninstall and reinstall, configure form scratch, no help.
I'll try turning off battery optimization for some of the apps and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip.
Those are all side effects of Doze - in some cases (Sleep Cycle) it sounds like the it hasn't been updated to use the API23 AlarmManager calls that should work with Doze. Hangouts should have worked - I'd be surprised if its not using Google Cloud Messaging which is Doze exempt.
Exempting apps from battery optimisation doesn't fully exempt them from all Doze restrictions but it's worth a try as it might help. It does allow apps to keep network connectivity which is likely key for Life360, Ebay and CSipSimple.
I would contact the Devs of all the apps to alert them their app isn't working properly on Marshmallow
Exempting Sleep Cycle in the battery saver allowed the alarm to work when I didn't have it plugged into a charger. I'll email the developer.
I've added exemptions to the battery saver for all apps that I use where I would never want them to decide to go to sleep. Everything seems better now, I haven't noticed any missed notifications since.
I hope hangouts was a fluke, I would also agree it should work properly...

Widgets stop working after a while in Oreo...

Hi,
I find that widgets have become a mess after the Oreo update. I use two news apps (BBC and Guardian) with widgets. Both of them have issues with their widgets now.... The widgets do not update and sometimes they hang completely and I must remove them and place them back on the screen to allow them to work again.
I have noticed that even the pre-installed weather widget stops updating after a while....
Does anybody else see this problem?
Hi there,
This may be related to Oreo force closing background apps for saving battery. You may check Battery settings for those two apps. If it is set as Managed Automatically, try to make them Managed Manually. It should be in Settings > Apps and Notifications > Apps > (your app) > Battery.
Bests
I tried to manage their background activities manually and enabled all three permissions but it doesn't make any difference.
Also, the weather widget is not in the list so there is nothing to do about that.
The problem is intermittent and sometimes it takes several days to show up, which makes me think it is indeed related to some battery management algorithms but I can't find a way to solve the problem.
I never saw this behaviour during the year I used the phone on Android 7.0.
On an unrelated note I also find that the Wi-Fi connection drops more frequently if the signal is low, particularly when the phone is in stand-by. Again, I had never seen this behaviour before the Oreo update...

How to prevent apps from getting killed

Hi all,
I'm running several apps that should run all the time (AdGuard, Network Speed Meter) or for a long time (speed trap warner,...) but OxygenOS kills them after a certain period. Some of them restart automatically, some don't. Of course all of these apps are 'not battery optimized'. Is there any chance to prevent OxygenOS from killing them?
Are there custom ROMs that can overcome this problen?
I'm on the latest OxygenOS Pie Beta, but the behavior was similar on Android O...
Thanks a lot,
W
Did you try locking the app via recents menu?
Thank for the info, didn't know that.
Unfortunately it doesn't help, Adguard and the network monitor don't appear in recents. The speed trap warner automatically starts and stops when I'm in the car, i don't want to open recents manually every time.

This is not changing anything,e ven with disable battery disabled, even with adaptative battery disabled.
I have the same problem. I have not found any solution whatsoever. This is really frustrating. I've made sure apps aren't optimized. Advanced optimization is disabled. Developer options background limit is at standard. I've pinned the apps in recent apps and it still happens. Apps get killed all the time.
For example,
1. I use Google Fit to start tracking a run. Within 10 minutes of tracking, the app is closed and workout not tracked. Its not even like i touched the phone and opened other apps during this.
2. I have VoIP account setup in the default dialer. Calls come through only 50% of the time cause the dialer is closed.
3. YouTube Music, constantly gets closed if i simply pause the music. Within 2 minutes, the app is closed.
4. Trying to transfer 15GB of files through Explorer app from phone to file server, never succeeds if i don't watch the app and keep the screen on.
5. Plex gets closed and therefore my photos don't auto backup with the phone is plugged in.
This is absolutely ridiculous! Why the hell a phone with 8GB of RAM is killing apps is beyond me!
Custom ROM on the same phone, like Lineage OS, no issues. Can have optimization on, battery manager on and all. In fact, battery life is better on custom when its not killing the apps! Seems to be the only solution until OOS can stop killing apps so aggressively.

My app is not killed when i lock it in the switch app menu
There's a whole website regarding that issue on several devices, maybe it helps: dontkillmyapp(dot)com/general#user-solution

Question Prevent apps from being killed?

Is there a way to prevent an app from ever being killed? I have 2 examples:
1) Fitbit app (background sync service, specifically) - when this stops running, some features on my watch quit working until I launch the app and sync manually.
2) Battery monitor app - I've tried AccuBattery (my preferred app), GSam, and BBS, but they all get killed and restart, and therefore give inaccurate information. BBS doesn't die as often as the others, but I don't like it as well. All 3 have persistent notifications, so I can tell when they last restarted.
I've set Battery Optimization to "Don't Optimize" for all of these. I've tried turning off all 3 of the settings under Advanced Optimization (probably unnecessary, no noticeable difference). I've also Locked each of these from recent apps. Are there any other settings I'm missing that could prevent an app from being killed? Possibly something new to Android 11? Fitbit and AccuBattery worked fine on my previous OP7P with Android 10.

Interesting, I haven't seen that before. Thanks for introducing me to something new. All of the apps in question are currently grayed out and say Exempted, so they shouldn't ever be put into standby.
Disable all power management*, Android does fine without it. Address any remaining power hogs individually on a case by case basis.
Power management will cause erratic behavior and can even increase battery usage even after its lame "adjustment" period.
To check if it is fully disabled go to Developer options>Standby apps, all buckets should show to be in their active state (and can't be manually assigned), if not power management is enabled.
Make sure allow background usage isn't disabled on the apps you want to run.
*yeah turn all those optimizing toggles OFF.
Only fast charging should be toggled on if you use it.

How does one disable all power management? I don't see any sort of global switch for that. Turning it off entirely seems drastic, but I agree that power management is generally more trouble than it's worth.
I did verify that the apps in question are allowed to run in the background and use unlimited data.

It seems like you're setting up right. Check the Stand by apps status.
When you first load Accubattery it gives an option to disable task killing in settings, Pro version.
Uninstalling then reinstalling it sometimes works for me; clearing its data does not. I was getting the same error message until I just reinstalled it
Just don't take Accubattery too seriously... it's useful up to a point.
I'm on Pie. Google really screwed up 10 and especially 11... so yeah it could something new as Google insists on changing things even if they're already nearly perfect
If that fails check with Accubattery for guidance with 11. They are responsive to emails.
They may also be punching out an update.

S9 exynos overheating

Pls i just bought a samsung galaxy s9 (exynos) but to my surprise the phone heats up a lot, the screen on time is not great and battery temperature is most time above 40°c. I just want to know if the battery temperature is normal for the phone
When you just buy a phone, it is best to return to the factory settings. Especially if the phone is used, then it still needs to. Update the system first if an update is available. Then back up all the data
Boot to recovery and format data/format cache
Go to settings/about/software info/tap 7-8 times on Build number and this unlocked hidden developer options.
Go back to settings and open developer options and go to find "Background process" and set this to "no background process"
After each restart of the phone, this option returns to the default value. So you have to work every time. The only downside to what I've noticed is that the weather widget doesn't do auto-refresh.
Go to settings/aplication/.../show system apps and
And go in order and go into every application that is irrelevant, click on battery and then turn off background activity.
This reduced my temperature from 35-36 to 27-28 degrees while I was using an unrooted device.
If you use facebook instagram, snapchat and turn off background activity on them. You will receive notifications again.
And in device control, let everything stay by default phone optimization because that way the phone will be a little cooler. When all those optimizations are disabled, more processes work and the phone is hot.
