Should I buy Exynos S20 at 600€? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Is 600€ a good price for a new S20 Exynos, considering the downsides it has? Would you buy it?

The only "downside" if we are comparing it to the snapdragon version is the battery life, which is really not that good, and the gaming preformance. Otherwise, my s20+ exynos has not slowed down a bit since i bought it, it preforms like a champ.

I don't know who told you the battery life is bad on exybis but it's simply not true I've had my S20 for 2 weeks now and the first day I got 5h30 sot with 120hz now I get between 6-7 hours every time and on 60hz I get 8-9 if that is bad battery then I don't know what good battery is

The gaming performance is good at the beginning, as you play longer and when the phone heats up, it gets laggy.
I experienced this on pubg mobile and call of duty mobile.
You'll have to take ambient room temperature into account as well.. Im from a country near equator with temperatures up to 36degrees in the afternoon.
When the phone heats up, take a break, let the phone rest.. And play again 15 minutes later. It's not good for health to keep playing games continously anyway.

Tbh, there is no smart phone with good battery life. All sucks except perhaps the gigantic brick like energizer phone.
Sd will yield marginally better battery life.
Just bring along a power bank.

Don't compare it internationally. Compare it locally.
In global market there is too many variants. Some with 5g, some with only 4g. Some dual sim some single sim. The 5G variant is always more with than 4G variants.

The 600 Euro price for a S20 5G can be found on my local "ebay" site. But the question is: is it good enough price considering is an Exynos, or should avoid getting an Exynos regardless of the price?

I had an s20+ exynos 4G which i sent back after 2 weeks. Yes, battery life and heat issues are really bad especially on mobile data and on wi-fi. 600€ it's kind of cheap. I spent on it 999€ when i pre-ordered. After that I bought s20+ snapdragon and I'm very happy with the switch. The performance it's way better on the same money and one year extra-warranty.

Note 7 Snapdragon vs Exynos

I have always used smartphones with a Snapdragon in them and been waiting a long time for a decent Note to come out to upgrade my S4. I have heard a mixed bag in regards to Snapdragon and Exynos from various review sites and reading peoples comment. Some say SD820 runs hot during gaming, some say Exynos throttles a lot during gaming while others say the SD produce better sound and the Exynos is not optimized well.
So I thought the best place to find out for sure is from XDA. To set the scene, I mainly be using the Note 7 for music, gaming and watching anime. Performance and battery life is the main things I am looking for, anyone able to comment on personal experience with the variant they have or really know your stuff in regards to the variants, would be much appreciated.

I just ordered the Exynos version and should be getting it soon. I've gone through 4 SD 820 versions on AT&T USA and can confidently say based on my experience, the performance is abominable. It goes from being insanely faste to incredibly laggy in everything you do. The battery life of all 4 phones have been unimpressive. I pretty much have to charge about twice to get me through the day.
The loudness is just okay. I'm looking forward to comparing with the Exynos version when it arrives. As for the 4th SD version Note 7 I'm currently using, it will be going back back to it's maker really soon.

Thanks for this, I would be interested to know your impressions on the Exynos variant of the Note 7 once you have gave it a good run.
Looks like there is a clear winner here. Thank you for everyone who voted in the poll. I really appreciate it.
I've heard nothing but bad stuff about the Snapdragon version, hopefully nothing an update can fix.
Thank you for making this poll. I am seriously thinking of returning the Galaxy Note 7 I purchased in Canada in favour of a Galaxy S7 Edge. Overall performance, operating temperature and battery life are more important to me than a minor boost in rendering performance.
My Canadian Snapdragon version has been great. No battery life or heat issues here. It took a few days to settle in after I set it up, but it's been great since. Battery life is slightly lower than my S7 Edge was, but the battery is also slightly smaller. I'm averaging 5.5-6hrs of SoT (auto brightness + location on), which is good enough for me.
The Exynos versions seem to be self destructing randomly after a few days. Bricks and bootloops.
Thanks
Thanks for the post and all the votes guys. I was also thinking about this and according to android central, strictly based on numbers, the exynos version has a better cpu and the snapdragon version has better gpu. However this doesn't really say anything about real world performance.
I have both for this week...I bought Tmobile on preorder and just bought Exynos as well...I love the Exynos...does come with a funky plug for the wall...it was warmer too as first...Did the update lastnight and its super fast and not warm anymore...I bought because of Unlocked Bootloader and possible Root soon...Chainfire does not have his device yet...so soon it will be up hopefully...out of the 2 the Exynos is brighter as well when both are maxed. My only con and I think its fixable is I got the FD Duos..and Messages has a blue #1 on it...All my messages do for that matter and the send button had it...trying to figure out how to turn it off... it's just my phone letting me know what SIMs card I'm using but I don't like it. But out of the two I'm definitely happier with the Exynos

Not true I had a FD model and using my ATT SIM Samsung Pay worked out of the box.

Note 9 vs Mate 20 pro vs find x

I am thinking about giving away my s9 mainly because of battery and the heat it produces.
The current options i have are Note 9 mate 20 pro and the oppo find x.
One of the main reasons i bought the s9 was for the display and curves.
Moving to anything other than Samsung is kinda tough for me. I love Samsung pay and the brand and the UI. I had the stock ui btw.
What would you guys suggest? Any of these or wait for S10? Which will release after 4 months

LOL, you're asking this in an S9 forum? Why not figure out why the S9 is overheating and keep the S9.

Because overheating was just one of his issues and I bet it was the least important one.
I had S9 and moved to Note 9. Why? Mainly because of the battery. S9 sucks badly at this point for a heavy user. Before S9 I had an S7 Edge and I hoped S9 will last the same. I was wrong, I was barely reaching the evening with a full charge and I had to constantly keep the phone in the charger if I was driving and using navigation or talking too much (which I do)
So if you don't want to wait for the S10, go for the Note 9. You'll get the same design and curves (less the corners but that's bearable) plus you'll get more storage (if you had the standard S9), more RAM (S9 has 4 while Note has at least 6),bigger screen, better camera(s) and ofc the stylus. And I can tell you that I am reaching the evening with more than 30% battery under heavy usage.

My battery is good for me, but not great for the price... But RAM management is very good, don't tell me anyone will use over 5-6 apps at the same time. And the S9 can handle more than that also... And i am not experiencing any slow downs even if I am a heavy user, I use whatsapp, facebook, instagram and XDA everyday, and watch a lot of videos on youtube and I have many games including one with high graphics, Asphalt 9.
Even if sometimes I had to charge my phone twice in a day, but I'm still loving it, especially that it fits perfectly in the hand, that's why I went for the S9 instead of the plus.

battery life

I watched a review on youtube of the note10 not the plus.. And the SOC was only 3 to 4 hours max which concerns me about the note 10 plus... I hope it's more then the note 9?
Using the Note10+ 9825 version. Lasts me as long as my previous phone which was S10+.
However, it still is learning my usage patterns. Results may vary in future (2 weeks).
Can't say battery here is bad, but it's not great either. Bear in mind I'm using a pretty raw version of the firmware.
I wouldn't worry about the snapdragon version. My buddy sent me this. They're getting about 8-10hrs with LTE and mixed usage.
Gonna share my usage details too (tmrw) so you would know what to expect from daily usage.
You have to give it time. I found with my S10 plus that my battery was horrible at first. I know this because I had to swap my phone, essentially, 5 times because of the LTE issue. Each swap the battery sucked for the first week or so then it evened out. Just be patient. [emoji16]

I used S10+ 9820. Note 10+ with 9825 heats noticeably less. The only heavy load for me was an hour of tes blades and it wasn't that hot. However, playing the same game on S10+ didn't cause much heat either.
But it's free to state that in daily usage Note10+ feels cooler than S10+.
Battery life seems pretty identical.

per the screenshot, this sucks. Its the same as My Note 9. I understand the screen is bigger by about 6.25% but I would expect better not just because the battery is bigger (7.5%) but because the cpu is smaller with 7nm vs 10, and better software. I'll cross longer battery life as a reason of just a few to upgrade.

Can't tell for your country. In Russia some people who preordered it will get it on Agust 16th. What I know for sure, most of the stores around the globe have them already in stock but selling or giving them out is strictly prohibited.

So, here's my battery result for Monday.
I'm using the 9825 version.
The device was removed from charging pod at 11:30~ p.m. yesterday, the screenshot was taken today at 8:15 p.m.
Resolution set - WQHD +, brightness outdoors - around 70%, indoors - 40%, the night mode wasn't applied throughout the whole day. AoD has been working since 7 a.m. up to the point of taking the screenshot.
Wi-Fi had been working from 11:30 p.m. until 8:50 a.m. LTE has been working for the whole day without disabling. Bluetooth and Poweramp - 1 hour 35 minutes. I used NFC for a couple of times to make a payment. Rest of the usage is messengers, browsing, social networks, etc.
The adaptive period (2 weeks) has not passed yet, the device discharged for 6% during the night. I didn’t do any hardcore configurations nor disabled any applications or services. Almost stock experience settings wise, however, I have around 500~ apps installed including system ones.

I worked inventory at Best buy for a few years and Everytime a new Samsung phone would launch we would receive them in batches around 2 to 3 weeks before the launch date. iPhones on the other hand wouldn't be received by us until a day or two before the release in massive deliveries. They most likely already have them if not they will be receiving them very soon they just can't sell them since they won't even appear in the POS system.

Reconfig Adguard to make it eat less battery. Just disable filter apps like Social, Messaging, Google Apps ... Think about the apps you don't need to filter it
Battery life is a combination of literally hundreds of factors. Comparing battery life is a meaningless process except in controlled situations.
One person can get great battery and another person a few feet away can get crap on the same model phone.
How much you use your phone (based on AI tuned optimizations), what apps you have on your phone, the brand of WiFi router you have, the color of your shirt, the brightness in the room, how cloudy of a day it is, how often you enter and exit a building, and on and on can make small impacts on your battery that add up to your total battery life. It is impossible to replicate or compare in the real world.

Exynos 990 vs Snapdragon 865

Hi All,
Currently using an iPhone 11 Pro Max and I'm relatively happy with it and the amazing battery but I'm bored and thinking of coming back to android.
Just not sure if its worth splashing £1200 on a device with an Exynos processor again!
Will Exynos be as bad again this year?

I also have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and coming back to Android and too be honest the Exynos VS SD865 does not really bother me, the performance is slower than the SD865 and possibly battery life (specially in standby) may not be the same, but the screen, camera, design, openness of Android more than make up for that I reckon.
Last time I had a Galaxy was the S10 and that was a very nice phone and my only gripe back then was the really poor signal quality so if this is resolved in the S20 Ultra then I am a happy.
You could of course import it if you must have the SD version.
Gadgetsboy on Twitter already discussing the poor battery life on Exynos models... And so it begins lol
Exynos was bad last year on the s10 plus but did get better with updates, eventually swapped for the p30 Pro which is a beast, I too am hoping it's better this year, why can't they all be snapdragon?

1) Not enough production.
2) Samsung makes a better profit from Exynos.
3) diversification is good, some years Qualcomm is better, some years Qualcomm is the SD810.
This was my initial question, as exynos has historically been crap.
Namely the GPU being underpowered compared to the same gen Adreno.
I've heard that the exynos / Mali this time is 20% faster, but that tells me nothing, I've also read that even South Korea has gone for the 865 which to me speaks volumes.
Not sure what all this would do for development, I've been away from Samsung since the S5 and note 4, I just couldn't deal with the exynos and it's sub par GPU, as I use emulators from time to time and the Adreno just works, plus you get driver updates.
If the new Mali is comparable to the Adreno (newest) then I'd think about getting this phone.
But my decision would hang on that and the aforementioned crap battery.
Have heard that this may be the last exynos too but couldn't confirm that.
Just wait for Gary explains YouTube channel to make a comparison between the two versions.
I guess the Snapdragon its going to be around 16% to 20% faster than the exynos.
https://youtu.be/MgRnbm9wrzg
You won't likely notice the performance difference. But you will notice the horrible standby battery drain. Overnight, my exynos S20U drop 7% in airplane mode. Compare that to just 1% for my Asus ROG Phone II (not in airplane). But still better than exynos S10+ (10% overnight).
I’m hoping it gets fixed with software updates. Was still on the fence about moving over even though I pre ordered. The battery life on the 11 pro max is absolutely insane, still debating whether it’s worth losing that lol

I think this whole exynos thing is overblown, yes there are differences in battery standby etc but surely having a UK warranty, ability to go to a samsung centre for any repairs, resale value is more important?

I have read some stories about issues with the ultra and the photography lock issues but the 10 x zoom looks amsizng
Which would you go for based on your experience
Have they fixed the photo lock issue with software update
Can you be honest as I don't want to make mistake in my new phone
Can't decide whether to wait for the note 20 ultra
The prices I'll pay as I get blue light discount through Samsung are
S20 plus £849.14
S20 ultra £1019
The note 2p ultra will probably be full retail price as the discounts don't kick in for ages
Thanks in advance

In UK is exynos 990... unless we have a surprise on 5th August, so I would skip Samsung in this 2020, you get over heating, throttling and camera issues, plus the usual bad battery management.

What are the camera issues
I don't tend to be a big gamer and just use my phone normally
Camera is really important to me however

The macro still not working perfect, and the focus also, maybe in Note20 comes perfect with new macro lens and laser focus. Anyway... battery drain and heating issue even seeing movies too long time you can count on that with exynos 990.

Not in my experience. I get fantastic battery , easily 7 or 8 hours SOT with my exynos. I have no issues with the camera either. I'm no photographer but it does more than I need it to.
No heating issues either only while charging :good:

On ultra exynos? With 120hz screen? One call and 30min play per day maybe? 8 hours sot and recharge every 12 hours maybe [emoji1787]
It get better with updates but some are hardware issues... only changing the SoC configuration witch Samsung recognize and will do next year.

Rumor has it the Note 20 Ultra release will be delayed and have a 50X Zoom, not the 100X found in the S20 Ultra. Likely it will feature an Optical Zoom up to 10X then a Digital Zoom at higher magnification levels. Having spent time as a professional photographer I doubt most users would be able to identify whether a photo was taken by an S20 or a Note device, both have all around good cameras. Will there be minor improvements in the Note 20? Probably but we'll also see software updates which will improve the S20 cameras. I wouldn't consider the Note 20 and S20 Ultra`s pocket phones, they're both very large devices with big displays. Prices are a significant consideration as well. The S20 Plus is available for $800 USD, S20 Ultra is around $1,000 USD. Rumor has it the Note 20 Ultra will come in around $1,300 USD. Also you'll save money and get a better SoC if you buy a Snapdragon powered International Variant. Lastly, would you use the S-Pen? If not it's difficult to justify holding out for the Note 20 Ultra. Wait for Samsung's Unpacking Event in a couple of days and you'll have a clearer picture for which device suits you best.

You're most welcome. For Macro shots with the S20 you'll find this article useful.

That's brilliant thanks I am on oppo find x 2 pro but am returning it to amazon tomorrow I've found certain annoyances the only good point really is 120mhz refresh even on qhd plus.. And charges zero to 100% in 38 mins... But annoyances like not being set ring tones for contacts without a faf... And the software isn't as refinded as Samsung
for me my opinion , i switch from n10+ to s20 ultra specially after all leaks come about n20 ultra .
why ?
for the true , i wasent use spen on my n10+ , and when i knew that n20 ultra come with battery 4500 according to s20 ultra is 5000.
another reason : refresh rate 120 with fhd for n20 ultra not qhd ...so same refresh rate on my s20 ultra .
i got my s20 ultra for 1000$ and its less than 300$ for upcoming n20 ultra .
another reason and that the special reason and important one : n20 ultra will come with exynos 990 same s20 ultra , so in my region and country no way for snapdragon .
so i will after all say , i keep on my s20 ultra that less than 1 month already in my hand.
hope i help

* S20 Ultra Exynos *
After update G988BXXU3ATG4.
heat issue is gone , its still warm 37 C after a photoshoot , but it was 44 C 47 C !!, thats not a point anymore.
normal tempature 24 C , speedcharge battery 44 minutes 34 C .
Macro is very good , not to close to object and zoom in ,its the same methode that samsung did to get a "macromode" , result is good .
Im a heavy user and i get around 7 till 8 hour battery time 90 % 20%.
only some lagg when i take photo's 108MP slow reaction ,
so price good buy it .
discussion Exynos Snapdragon ?.
I'm still debating between the s20 ultra ,iphone 11 Pro max,xperia 1 mk2
Its all the exynos and camera problems that are worrying me are they all fixed in updates like some are saying? Because I do prefer Samsung devices
Thanks

I have a iPhone 11 Pro max and the camera is OK I'm just sick of being stuck in the apple eco system and want a breath of fresh air
Re the Sony do some research that camera sounds as bad.. And it's not got 120mhz screen OK the ultra is only on full HD but 120mhz is amazing from what I've seen

I actually have the s20 ultra now and have the iPhone 11 Pro max on order so was going to decide between the two
I have the exyonos version and I don't do a lot of gaming if any to be honest (might have 10 mins on coin master haha ?)
Using the camera the phone does heat up a bit on the top front display just worries me if I keep it long term things will only get worst with exyonos and the heat
I'd hate to think in the future oh ill have a go on that game or app and the phones does nothing but throttle

Exynos for me is a deal breaker... we never know what's happening next[emoji1787] but the worst for me is the attitude of Samsung scamming exynos consumers, selling same price, and what a high price, something that don't perform on the same level than snapdragon.
Even if the average customer don't see it I think is not fair.

Is the exyonos that bad I mean I've had samsung devices for the past 5 years all exyonos I'm assuming with me been in the uk
Or is it just this generation 990 version
Seen a lot of posts that all the overheating and ceramic problems have been fixed via software is this true?
I mean if its a split second behind snapdragon then who cares lol
Thanks

It's at least since s7... for hardcore users is important. You play PUBG poorly after one hour or so... paying the same than an American that still playing good [emoji2361] the lucky of Samsung is that the average customer don't care... but with 20% less battery in s20 series even the average customer starts complaining.

To be honest I'm not much of a gamer on phones I just use it for the camera, social media, watching YouTube and movies, just some general apps like music etc
So would I be effected by the exyonos or should I not even notice
I don't think I'll ever play a game for over an hour I mean does the exyonos throttle after say 30 mins
Also mine is on ATFG HERE IN THE UK is that the lastest version with the apparent fixes?
