I've had my Galaxy Nexus for a month now, and I've put my Nexus One up for sale on an auction site. I love the Galaxy Nexus, but here's why I'll miss my Nexus One:
Car Home & Car Home Launcher - These should be stock on every Android. I've added them to my /system/apps folder. ;-)
FM Radio - The Broadcom chipset is capable of FM radio, but Samsung has disabled it. Why?
Trackball - I miss the trackball. It was especially useful when using a terminal emulator.
Charge indicator LED - The amber/green indicator for charging/full charge was a nice little nuance.
Came with power cable & USB cable (instead of USB cable and AC adapter for USB cable) - How cheap do you have to be to not give you one of each cable?
Came with headphones with mic and media controls. - Again, why did Samsung cheap out on this? How much would it have cost to throw in this cable?
Had a Desktop Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - Not a big deal, but I'll miss it.
Had a Car Dock with pogo pins and Bluetooth Audio - I miss this more than anything else. I bought the POS Verizon mount for $40, and promptly returned it when I realized it didn't have a power cord/car charger, Bluetooth, and automatic pairing that Nexus One car dock had.
More application compatibility - ICS compatibility for apps seems to be kind of slow to roll out.
Permanent Menu button - I'm not an Apple user, stop taking away my buttons! I don't miss it much, but it is kind of annoying to have the new triple-dot icon at the top of some apps, and at the bottom of others.
Permanent Search button - Again, stop taking away my buttons.
MicroSD card slot - I have mixed feelings about this. I don't like the complete lack of expandable storage, but I DO like not having to hack my phone to move apps and data to /mnt/sdcard and /sd-ext. 32GB of built-in storage is nice.
It's a good thing I have a ZAGGsparq 2.0, as the Galaxy Nexus sucks down battery like crazy.
I don't have a belt clip/case for this huge phone!
AT&T's GSM 3G (HSPA) is MUCH faster than Verizon's CDMA (EVDO) 3G when I'm not in a 4G LTE area.
I've adjusted to most of these changes, but I'm writing this because I think Nexus One owners should be aware of what they're losing when they upgrade.
Now that that is out of the way, I LOVE the following things about my Galaxy Nexus:
The huge screen
The speed
It doesn't lock up/freeze/reboot. Battery pulls used to be about a daily exercise for me on the Nexus One. I have YET to have to do a battery pull on my Galaxy Nexus.
4G LTE is awesome.
ROMs will give you your buttons back.
Lightflow can be used to create a charging indicator.
I asked this in other thread but are you guys noticing the led is like many colors in one? More specifically three cause I know that's how it makes other colors but are you guys seeing those three obviously.
Like they don't blend in to make the right color. They do but its like crappy.
Idk how to describe it.

Yep, I got my menu button back on my GSM Galaxy Nexus. I hate that they took away the menu button. It makes the phone so much harder to use one-handed.

The LED is prismatic but only when displaying white. Any other color it's perfect.

I know what you're saying, and I agree but it only happens for some of the colors, such as purple and orange for me. Green, red, light blue, all work perfectly. It may just be something with light flow though
As mentioned permanent home and search buttons can be fixed with zip file if you're stock and it's baked into most of the major ROMs now (at least the option to customize it)
Also the otterbox defender series cases have available belt clips, so does seidio
The FM radio point did annoy me as well though
Green and red and blue are perfect because its just the one color shining. My sky blue is very close but on bottom there is a little green seen. Idk maybe my leds brightness are uneven idk.
I don't care that much but knowing other colors are perfect for others bothers me.

I agree partially and fully on some of your reasons. Until the other day. Used my N1 extensively to flash some things and guess what? The N1 is too small now after using the sleek and sexy gnex. And the touchscreen is crap on the net. Pure crap. After you got used to it you could live but the atrix and gnex have spoiled me in that area.

Wow! $50 for a clip/case

Thanks for letting me know about these two great places for accessories.
I just priced the Otterbox Defender for the Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Seidio accessories. $49.95 is out of my league for a clip/case. The $69.99 for the 3800mAh Seidio extended battery is tempting, but I'll have to wait.
I've got $20.00 invested in a RocketFish clam shell style case, and I keep my phone in my trousers pocket (NOT with my keys). I also have another $15.00 invested in a ZAGG invisibleSHIELD to protect the screen.

Other multicolor LEDs will have similar results. You are just nitpicking it, because its larger than a lot of other leds in phones. Therefore it is more noticeable.
Which ROMs please?

Got any suggestion as to which ROMs? I tried flashing the replacement SystemUI from Paul (at another forum) with Menu buttons on both sides and a search button, but it apparently is not compatible with the LTE/Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus, and I had to manually restore my SystemUI to get things working correctly again.

Thanks for this. Lightflow is doing the job for me. It's slightly annoying that it will only activate the LED when the screen is off, but admittedly, that's when I need the LED to work the most. ;-)

Almost all of the ROMs now a days have this feature. I personally perfer codenamedroid. AOKP is also another popular ROM.
What I miss about my Nexus 1:
- Size (double edged sword because i also like the large screen size of the GN when surfing/typing)
- Battery Life: Had much better battery life on N1 ATT GSM than on VZW GN/With Exentended battery
Stability:
- Never had any freezing w/N1 (was stock & rock stable). GN have had random reboots (about 1 every third day),
GN has odd screen unlock problem where the pattern dots don't appear unless after i wake up the phone, i hold the power button in until prompted to turn off phone). goes away for a while if i reboot phone (or it reboots itself lol)
GN has odd stack problem where after using a lot of apps, the back button starts unwinding all kinds of different apps even once it gets back to "Home" screen. When the stack gets too large, shortcut icons on home screens don't open the correct app. I'll have to hit back 20 times then everything starts working normally again.
GN has odd stack issue with Exchange email notifications: opening an email from the new mail notification seems to open the entire stack of new notifications. Even after the notification has been dismissed and a new one generated. (ie get 10 emails, dismiss new notification, get one more, use notification to open the newest mail, start hitting back button and it will cycle through all 11 emails, alternating with the inbox.)
What i love about the GN:
Screen size for typing/browsing: my hither to heavily used tablet has started gathering dust
VZW 4g speed
General snappiness of ICS (well really the new processor/memory as i still think ICS is a bit of a pig resource-wise)

Nexus one had all kinds of issues as well including multi touch malfunction and a terrible battery life.
I guess it all goes back to only being a $40 offset purchase ($99 for prime) with the recent ebay deal ($140) but man this thing is heavy. Maybe I had higher hopes but I never played with one in an AT$T store before. Compared to my Moto G it's large and in charge. Its pros are the .2'' screen size, more ram, and better camera. The other pro is being able to store the Amazon Prime Video content locally which is nice. As far as I know that can't be done on any other device...legally.
I have yet to root and give it a try with another launcher but I'm mainly talking about a device's physical size. My Moto G is starting to refresh the main screens icons quite often and I only have one calendar widget running. I'm thinking I should sell the Moto G and this phone and just score me the first Moto X or splurge on a Compact Z3.
I had both. Fire Phone beats s**t out of the Moto G. Moto G running 5.0.2 is decent device, but it struggles scrolling Instagram! It loads dialer for more than one second! Believe me, Fire Phone is one of the fastest Androids out there.
My problem with Fire Phone was not related to Amazon services it-s related to crappy notifications and few minor problems at first which over the time become an annoyance.

Appreciate the response. When you mention notifications i'm assuming that means no LED on the Fire Phone? I read that somewhere and noticed it doesn't have a notification LED. That will annoy me pretty fast. As the hardware does beat the snot (lol) out of the G I will probably keep it until the new USB Type C and DDR4 become the norm in mobile devices. In a bar fight screw brass knuckles when you have a fire phone in your pocket!

Exactly, no LED in this phone. Also, the annoying notification problem he's telling you about is that notifications only show once and after that there're 2 ways to know you've missed a notification:
1. If you're using the FireOS stock launcher, a notification bubble will show next to the app icon. The problem is, almost nobody keeps the FireOS stock launcher. It's different from what Android, iOS or Windows Phone users are accustomed to, and many sideload a new launcher (or download it from the Google Play Store, if the user previously sideloaded it).
2. Check the notification every time you have the hunch you're missing a notification.
I hated the FireOS stock launcher from day one, so I sideloaded the Google Play Store and downloaded a launcher. From that day on, I had never longed so much for the Android way of showing the apps that have sent you notifications by putting the icon of the app in the notification bar, or the iPhone/Windows Phone notification bubble next to the app icon. Having to check manually every time or being permanently aware of the notifications you get is really troublesome, especially if you're expecting an important call (happened to me).
(Epilogue: I flashed CM11 and no more notifications missed since then. Happy ending)
I've been lurking over here, since my wife got one of these Fire Phones. I'm using the 1st gen 3G Moto G for my personal phone. She loves her FP. She did have a little learning curve but she loves it now.
You can also swipe down (it's hard for me to do, but she's got it down) from the top and see notifications there.
I doubt that she'd let me put the safe strap recovery and CM11 on since it's not even tried right now.

I had the original moto g, then nexus 4 and now fire. Moto g is good but hampered by lack of ram and needs to be rooted to fulfil its potential with greenify etc. The fire has much better specs. I've kept fire os and use another launcher that shows notifications on the relevant icons. EDIT: on fire, you don't have to swipe you can flick your wrist to open notifications/status.
Yeah, I'm liking the internals of the fire phone, but that's about it. It's honestly one of the worst feeling phones in my hand between its heavy weight for a 4.7" screen, blockiness, and fingerprint prone back. Attention: weight does not equal quality moronic manufacturers.
I have had the Moto G, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and fire phone. on Fire OS, WORST device I have used in probably 3 years, on CM11, I'd say on par with Nexus 5, or at least much better than moto G and Nexus 4. Just my 2cents. almost exact same size as my iPhone 6.

Yep, I'm also struggling with the "handfeel" and weight of this device. My husband got a 2014 Moto X a few weeks ago and it fits in my pocket much better and is easier to use one-handed in spite of having a screen .5" larger!
The bezel which accommodates the pretty pointless cameras is massive compared to many other 4.7 phones. It's taken me a while to adapt to the size but overall the fire is much slicker than my nexus 4 so I'm going to get used to it.
I'm still at a toss up with it them. It kicks butt having all of the seasons of Archer, True Blood, and Voltron in my pocket legally! I would miss the FM radio in the Moto G when at the gym because you can tune into the TV's to listen to live sports or whatever is on. Most don't care about that feature. BTW does it have to be rooted to side load the play store for other launchers?
So, I'm trying to get a Nexus 7 (2013). My 2012 is slow, and I'm a big fan of the 7" screen size, not wanting to go any bigger. The first one, the center 1/3 of the touch screen (a vertical area going from the top of the screen to the bottom) didn't work at all. Second one, no wifi at all. Third one (the one currently on my lap) has a combination of the issues. There's a 1 sq cm area where the touchscreen doesn't work, a stuck pixel, and wifi disconnects every time the device's screen turns off, then won't reconnect until a reboot.
I know there's some hardware issues with this device, but my god, really? Two used and one "new" and I haven't gotten a good one yet? I've tried running other roms to fix the wifi issues, no go, stock works best (which is still not well). I've tried the touchscreen fixes located on here and YouTube, I haven't tried any self-help repairs for wifi yet.
Should I keep trying? Give up? Other than the Nvidia Shield I can't find another 7" tablet that's as fast as this one. I bought a 2015 Kindle Fire, but it's as slow as my 2012 N7 and has a worse screen.
Any help would be appreciated!
I had the same problem I traded in my 2012 N7 for a 2013 N7 and it was terrible luckily I got it exchanged for a good one the difference is like night and day. Also you shouldn't write your 2012 N7 off just yet have you not tried the M Kernel? Flash that and with a bit of tweaking your 2012 should fly again. Also IMO the 2012 has the better GPU so slightly better for gaming and I prefer the screen dimensions. Good luck.
Id try taking a look at the LCD ribbon cable. A lot of people are having issues that were caused by this ribbon cable becoming loose. Remove the back late and inspect the orange ribbon cable that runs over the battery. make sure to disconnect the battery before changing anything though.

For the touch screen you have to try parrot mod from this forum. For me the change day and night. Now my touchscreen is always perfect even with ten fingers on screen with tablet over a table
I wanted to buy a Moto 360 as a normal watch + some nice options like music controls which will help in sports last year, though I abandoned this idea as I was afraid of 2 things: I have astigmatism meaning I have to use big screens (+5.2'') phones with big fonts to be able to read without glasses, I am afraid I won't be able to read small sms messages on the Moto 360 small screen, but given we hold the watch at a further distance than a phone perhaps it won't be such a pain. 2ns problem which I have found in this forum is the battery life, by battery life I don't mean only how long a single charge can hold with ''always on'' but the battery itself as you can't replace it.
So here are my questions:
If I can get a used Moto 360 in mint condition for 60-70$ should I get it?
What about battery?
Anyone of you have short sighted problem due to astigmatism and can share his experience with the Moto 360?
Should I get the 2nd gen (knowing it's more than double price as used)?
Hello,
I think is a bad ideia.
Motorola/Lenovo said will not update Moto 360 1st gen. to Android Wear 2.0 .
My Moto 360 is turning off suddenly.
The specs of Moto 360 2nd gen. is not so different of 1st gen.
My two cents.
Enviado de meu MotoG3 usando Tapatalk
If you aren't going to be frustrated by some hiccups in performance, I honestly think it will be ok. The fonts can be made larger under settings and my battery still holds up pretty much as well as when I got it, though it still doesn't get the best battery life. I still have to charge it more or less once a day, a solid once a day if I'm using it as a calculator for something or for voice dictation in replying to a ton of messages. An average day I end at 40% battery life so I could use it more and still get a full day but couldn't really drag it out for two. If you can afford the second one and plan on maybe using it for more than music control and as a watch then I'd get the 2nd gen, but if somewhat worse performance and possible lack of future updates is ok it should be fine.
Mine isnt particularly old (January 2015) and the back is still cracked(never bothered with RMA) but the screen now has a blue patch and its suddenly died about 10 times now. They were great 1st gen products, but very very first gen.
If you can get a second hand Gen 2 isntead, get that. Really as wearables take more punishment it'd be something Id tend to buy new.
Has anyone tinkered with the guts of the moto mod gamepad? I'm having an odd issue with the analog sticks. In apps with high sensitivity to stick position, I don't get the full range of motion in certain directions. This is almost certainly a factory calibration problem... on a PC I could just calibrate the device directly or find a workaround, but I don't know enough about android accessories/devices. Short of ripping it open and futzing with what I assume are hall sensors, is there a way to initiate some sort of device re-calibration, or change the values for 0 to max in Android?
I've sent a similar question to Lenovomoto, but I'm not hopeful.
Edit: I'm too green to upload images here, but gamepad tester output shows a 'flat tire' response from 11-oclock to 1 oclock.
I rock the stratus steelseries XL for Android gaming. It has never let me down....and paired with the projector mod is an epic combo... I would just return it get the controller and hold out for your promo..unless you already have it..then ur set...

It sounds like a DOA gamepad. Out of the box mine hasn't had to be calibrated and has a natural controller feel. The only thing I notices is the D-Pad required firm pressure at times.
my gamepad doesn't seem to have any of those type issues:
https://youtu.be/8zndTsQgKf0
have you checked for a software update?
No updates yet, though I do suspect it could be corrected in software, so here's hoping. In the meantime, it looks like in-game sensitivity adjustments provide a suitable workaround for most games and emulators. (just boost the sensitivity to the point where all directions register) I'll just have to wait patiently - despite providing raw output data, Moto customer service doesn't regard this as a defect.
I have had the same issue with my original gamepad mod and the replacement. I've deducted mine to trigger slop. No teardowns I've found yet. And I called Lenovo about it and they said no calibration tools available. Make sure your forward directions are not sloppy. On both analogs I get .8 travel out of 1 in all forward directions on both sticks. Trying to figure out how to fix lenovos poor design and crappy plastic parts myself. Glhf.
I Solved this problem on my gamepad
My way is a bit tryhard, but... I found this teardown from a guy who was replacing the membrane from the D-Pad, I can't post links cause I'm a new user, but if you search for "moto gamepad disassembly" in google, click the third link that says "Moto GamePad Mod - better buttons! : Moto_Z - Reddit" and then go to the link at the bottom of the thread (thanks very much to that hero).
So... following those steps I removed the stick and used sandpaper to expand the radius of the circle that limits the movement of the stick. When you are getting close to the grey ring, you are done. At that point the stick can reach from -1 to 1 values on every direction you point it.
If you want to do it, I have a couple of tips... In the second step of the teardown you have to use a bit of strength to separate the shell on the top and bottom corners that point to the center of the gamepad. And I recommend to use a hard sandpaper at the start and when you are close to the grey ring use a soft one.
Sorry if I don't write very well, I don't speak much english.
