I was comparing the front facing cameras side by side and on top of each other. I noticed that the Sprint variant's camera was much brighter, showed more accurate colors and looked better in low light conditions. Why could this be? Are the camera optics on each carriers device different perhaps? I know the Sprint Galaxy S III got a very important OTA update with a few stability fixes/tweaks. Could that have something to do with it?

Just throwing this out there but did you check to make sure brightness settings were the same ? Yours may have been on a low brightness setting making it seem less colorful. Often display units with be on full brightness to look better

Thats what I was thinking. The on screen pictures don't look very good to me, from the front or rear camera, but the file on my computer looks great. If I turn up the brightness it looks better. I've noticed that on my S3, my nieces Galaxy S and my Dad's Galaxy Note, the screeens have a blue tint to them if the brightness is turned low and the pictures color looks washed out. Increased brightness takes care of it.

I am sure. I sat there for at least 7 minutes comparing them and the settings. I am now sure it could just be my unit. A friend of mine who also has one looks very similar to the quality of mine.
The OnePlus 3T has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
How do you find the sRGB-mode? I dont like it at all. The colours are not colourful any more in that mode. I find custom mode full warm the best though...

Same, custom mode with full warm is my fav so far. Whites in other modes looks little blueish to me.
At first I thought S-RGB mode to be very bland in comparison with the default's vibrant colours. But after trying out the S-RGB for a day straight I don't want the default anymore xD
Everything seems much more realistic, accurate, not overly saturated, and even soothing/calmer with S-RGB. Default now gives off a wacky vibe, like I'm high or something
Edit: Tried custom full warm like the posts above, but I don't like it during the day. At night it is good, but still prefer the S-RGB for most of the day.

Unfortauntely I can't post an image comparison I made but you can probably see it for yourself: get some app with sharp edges in the UI and black on white text (Now for reddit, for example), you'll notice a bit of color fringing around the text, typically some green above and purple below the characters' lines. This makes text look somewhat out of focus and uncomfortable to read.
It really sucks compared to my Nexus 5's IPS screen, sure more vibrant colors but what use is that if it can't display text in a readable form?
Too bad, I really like the rest of the phone. Now I'll have to go back and look for another affordable dual sim high-spec phone.
(This is my second OP3T after I returned the first one believing this was a manufacturing defect, after some looking around it seems to be a result of the screen being a PenTile AMOLED display at a too low resolution for the size)
i now have a huawei p9 with 1080p ips lcd and 5,2". i like the uniformity and the "sharp edges" (no pentile matrix) of the display.
anyone in the same boat and did a "downgrade" to the OP3T amoled screen?
i`m a little bit afraid of uneven gray level (yellow on one side) and fuzzy fonts which are not so comfortable readable as on a lcd display.
l like the phone specs but worried about the low resolution screen - anyone have this and the s7 edge and can compare the screens ?
sRGB mode is really great in my opinion --> the calibration in this mode is great, so you can be sure, that everything on the web and in apps looks as the creator intended, as sRGB is for the time being the "standard" color profile.
I have no problem with the pentile matrix and 1080p resolution --> while I can notice a difference in sharpness compared to the OPO with its 1080p IPS display, the display of the OP3T is all around great. I would put the sharpness of the OP3T around the sharpness of the iPhone7 (non plus) with its 326ppi.
The sRGB mode on the OP3 is way better.. The OP3T sRGB mode is definitely pretty washed out with a lot more yellow tint..
I'm sure one plus can tweak that.. Nothing inherently wrong with the screen coz I think they're the same..

I'm calling BS on this one. Smells like a troll...
I just got OnePlus 3t for a week. The screen sharpness look okay to me, I have s6 and s7 edge to compare and I can't see any pixel in these phone except both samsungs look sharper. The only complaint here is that the screen panel doesn't look very black when see in daylight and not as vivid/warm, compare to my iPhone 6s. But custom setting to nearly full warm help a lot.
I use to be afraid of the pentile 1080p too, but now I can say it look very great.
I'm disappointed in the clarity of the screen, it looks quite pixelated and grainy to me. I can't understand why OP didn't go for a QHD in the 3T
I preffer 1920x1080 in my 3T, the screen has a lot of quality in my opinion, I don't want anymore.
I don't like the screen at all, it just isn't as sharp as other phones compared to today's standards its not great. Im quite let down by it.

It's decent in my opinion
I came from Galaxy S6 and its (well, let's face it) outstanding quad HD display and actually the downgrade in resolution is in fact noticeable for me. Not a big deal though, it may be just me being crazy about some minor details

Agreed, I'm used to using 2k screen phones and I'm perhaps being a bit OCD about it. The 3T screen isn't bad by any means, I can just see the difference from my old 2k phones which is annoying me. I'm also noticing the PWM on the screen and that's something I've not noticed in phones since I had my old Note 4.

Exactly, I totally agree with you
Such an amazing phone but the 1080 pentile is ugly, you're only getting an effective resolution of around 900p because of it. I feel the phone is spoiled a lot because of this.
sRGB mode is a must also on this panel.
Coming from a Moto X Pure, which has a 1440p display, I can definitely tell the difference, especially when I resize my desktop icons using Nova Launcher, with the display set to small on Nougat. This phone however is blazing fast compared to the Pure, so I'll be getting used to the display and set my icons to a somewhat smaller size (120% instead of 130%.)
I have no reason to root this thing either, except for a custom kernel with KCAL support and using Kernel Adiutor-Mod. None of the sRGB settings are good enough for me. I need Samsung-like bleeding color settings.
EDIT: Solved the blurry icons with Nova by disabling the "Normalize icon size" option.
Hello everyone.
In considering the Oneplus 5t as a replacement to my good old Samsung note 4, especially for the price compared to today's flashships.
One of the main factors when I chose any device is the screen quality. I understand the 5t scores really high in this sector, but I'm worried about the resolution and screen DPI.
My note 4 and all today's flagships have higher resolutions, and I'm wondering if anyone has compared the 5t screen with other devices and can notice any real difference in daily life, mainly while browsing pictures were pixels become more evident.
I considered the Note 8 and LG v30, but I really can't stand those curved edges, and I don't need a pen since I don't use the one on my note 4.

I upgraded from the Note 4 to the OP3T and then the 5T. My decision was based on easy root and Dev community. I cannot notice a significant difference in screen resolution (if you look at TV resolution guides you'll see that you need to be insanely close to the screen to notice on something as small as a phone). OnePlus allows you to manually adjust the DPI to suit your preference so you can have tiny icons and such. I love this phone compared to my Note 4. Way snappier and no slow down from TW.
I personally have never thought "this screen would be better if it was 4k". But Samsung's infinity display is definitely a better display if that is your only concern.

Since you had a note 4, how would you compare the screen with the 5t one? Would you consider the 5t an upgrade in terms of quality, color accuracy, brightness, watching angles etc?

Full disclosure I didn't use the camera on the Note 4 all that much, but looking through the pictures that I took with it the OP5T seems to take much better pictures. The portrait mode is also great to have.
As for the screen, I personally don't notice a difference in quality. Small text still has clearly defined edges that I can see. I don't use my phone for VR so I can't comment there. I really like the colors on the display and didn't notice any significant color difference between the two, but this is subjective. It is plenty bright and I think that might be an upgrade from the Note 4 as I seem to recall having to manually adjust the brightness to actually see it whenever I stepped outside and still having some issues. Viewing angles are also great with this phone. I don't have any color shift unless it's a pretty extreme angle.
The one thing the screen has going for it is it's size and lack of bezels, which I really love. Other than that I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a significant difference between the two unless you looked really closely or had special equipment. So not really an upgrade in screen quality, but definitely not a downgrade. The rest of the phone is a huge improvement though. Way faster to use and a much better update schedule.

Thanks . Such a reply is much better than any review on the net, as you gave real life experience.
I'm really satisfied with the Note 4 display, and if this isn't a downgrade, that's grade. Being with much less bezels and overall lighter is a huge plus too.
I'm a Note 4 to 3T and now 5T convert.
Updates aren't an issue with OP, they're doing a fine job now. If I had to complain, and I don't need to, it's the security updates are always behind.
I don't have the issues that a lot of others are having. I also don't have a lot of crap apps on my phone. 100% stock with dark theme, BT always on, brightness between half and 3/4 and I'm averaging 1.25 day of battery and 8hrs of SOT.
In regards to the screen, it's made by Samsung. I'm surprised at how easy it was to adjust to. Choose your preset or customize it and run with it.
Camera, hmm, it's good but not as good as the Note 4 in low lighting. Once you get to know how to use the camera, other pics come out quite nicely. Most of the pics I take are of circuit boards and car parts.
Audio, unfortunately I'm hearing impaired so I try not to comment on it. I will say that it seems like every other update the volume output changes either up or down. I notice this when I'm connected via BT to my cars radio.
I can't walk and chew gum so I'm not a VR user.
Hellz yeah it is. It's excellent and it's even better than some QHD displays out there like the G6.

I honestly wouldn't worry about the screen resolution, it's fine, honest. On the plus side, the HD+ screen means the GPU has less pixels to push around.
My best advice would be to compare it side by side with other devices in the flesh if you can, that way you can see if you like the colour tone of the screen. I've spent several years using a succession of cheap devices bought directly from China. All of them have had LCD screens rather than AMOLED. I'm finding it very hard to get used to the screen because it looks so yellow whenever looking at anything white. If you want accurate colours (reds and blues accurate) you need to have the screen set to sRGB or DCI P3 and with either of those options whites look very yellow indeed. I've compared my phone to two other 5ts now and they have all been the same. I think I'm gradually getting used to it, but I've had to set the screen colour to 'custom' and as cool possible to get anywhere close to acceptable whites. The downside of this is it comes with very oversaturated reds. When comparing the 5t to the panels on the S8+ and Note, they seem whiter and generally a better panel.
Having said all this, I'm happy with the device in most ways and the resolution is basically fine for me.

I actually find that the Samsung panels that I've been looking at (S8/Note 8/S7) have been generally the same as the 5T as far as whites go (very good), but the S8/Note 8 tends to have reddish whites and the S7 had a greenish white. The 5T was much better.

That's interesting, I wonder if the type of lighting makes a difference? In the shop where I compared them my eyes honestly thought the Samsungs had more pop AND better colours. Their whites were closest to the LCD screen on my old Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. I also felt that the middle range Samsung's had all the same 'issues' as my 5t, i.e. a bit yellow when displaying white backgrounds, and very over saturated reds that look almost scarlet or florescent. I guess it must come down to what each person is used to and how they perceive colour? I'm gradually getting used to the 5t and I really like how it looks when playing a game. Doom 3 looks really lovely on it

I think there are a lot of factors going on. Lighting, personal perception, etc.
I went from the original Oneplus One to the Nexus 6P and now to the 5T. At first, I was also a bit worried that the display on the 5T would be less sharp compared to the 6P, due to the difference in DPI. But when I got the 5T, I could hardly tell the difference. The display was just as good and even brighter and vivid.
Although OP5T screen is beautiful perfect, But if screen is still a concern, LG V30 is a way to go.
I guess only difference is resolution...Pixel counts.

Uhm, no.
The V30 has one of the worst screens of all current (flagship) phones.
The one in the 5T is way, way better.
In direct comparison with the S8 I can tell the difference. But its not to great. Colors and everything else are really similar. Unless you use it for VR its very ok in my opinion.

Can confirm. Had a pixel 2 xl for a few weeks (same LG POLED panel). Brightness uniformity is horrible and whites are very grainy. Don't miss anything about that display.
Seen 2 videos so far of the V30 up against the S9 series and its holding its own quite well.
What are you guys opinions?
V30 for better battery and camera. End of story.
If you had an S8 right now you would be better off on both those parameters than with an S9
Sammy will fix things. The snapdragon seems to be ok with battery but the exynos variant doesn't do well for battery. Further optimisation needed especially for exynos

Had both, sold the S9+ after 10 days, couldn't get on with Sammy software and device was just a little too big and heavy. Very happy to have gone back to my V30.
Seriously, not sure how you can even think about saying that the V30 camera is better than the S9, unless you are talking about granularity of controls. The quality of the S9+ blows the doors off the v30..especially indoors/low light. I have both and the S9+ is being shipped back to Samsung tomorrow because I love my V30 size and feel, not to mention the wide angle lens. However, saying v30 camera quality is better than S9+ is laughable. V30 is still a decent camera though and I can't do without wide-angle lens. I'm not sure why others have not done it...oh wait, maybe we need Apple to do it first then EVERYONE else will. lol
i owned lg v30 plus for 5 months and i got S9plus from 10 days and i sold it back yesterday and returned to my lgv30 the reason behind that s9plus has a big problem with dropping calls and during the call i am loosing the connection and got silence for 5 to 10 sec on the same conditions i was using lg in i searched and found it's a common problem and they are waiting a fix through an update the second thing is battery life the s9+ doesn't hold for a day with the same usage , also the network switching between 4g and 3g is going crazy and so bad with s9+

Why is the S9 struggling to get focus in scenes the last three generations would not. You mean to tell me the V30 or any LG since the G4 would have trouble focusing in these low light scenes ? Forget LG, S6 up to S8 would have no problem in those scenes

First has a higher ISO than necesary and thererfore will lose at the pixel level in terms of details to every good camera that came out since 2015, the second blows out the image entirely with the oh so amazing f1.5
Numerous photos i see this overbrightening going on. Why. if HDR+ makes photos low contrast ie flat and boring then the S9 is making them worse for no good reason
Now, i have zero problems having to use manual if it means i get a better photo, in fact a camera that doesn't have manual is worthless as far as i'm concerned but try telling that to someone who just bought this phone for the camera. Paid big bucks for it

Did you get Android Oreo update for LG V30 plus? Any idea when it will arrive ?
I almost sold my V30+ for a S9+ but to be honest, I wouldn't be rushing out to buy an S9 or S9+ just yet. They have a world wide issue with dead spots on the screen... And of course their launcher sucks dogs balls.. Useability is high on my list, and after 5 min playing with the S9+ in store, I wanted to puke.
If you're keen on going Samsung, maybe wait for the Note 9... Samsung just can't get anything right at the moment - seems hardware issue after hardware issue..... Samsung need to take a break, and stop rushing phones to market
My V30+ has been flawless since picking it up in Nov 2017. I'll be sticking with it until the V40+ comes

You know that's not how it works right? Aperture is only one aspect of the amount of light that a sensor picks up, the other being sensor and pixel size.
Although the S9 has more or less the same aperture the pixel size is nearly 50% larger than the v30 pixels, it also has a 1/2.5" sensor versus 1/3.1", this will have a very large effect on low light quality.
For example a full frame sensor has over a stop of extra light gathering ability vs an APSC sensor, equivalent to the jump from an F2.0 to an F1.4 lens, I have no idea what the exact ration will be with these sensors but it is likely to be quite significant.
There is nothing wrong with the V30 camera, but physics dictates it is going to be significantly worse in low light than the S9.

Agree with what you've said but LG manages to squeeze out a lot from a small sensor despite the smaller pixel size. Have you seen some of the photos from the AI camera that only the Korean variant has for now. They have improved clarity and sharpness over the past.
The V30 will be a more reliable shooter than the S9 in the examples i've cited. The V30 would not have the problems the S9 has.
Did you see Max's video ? i looked at every photo he took at the pixel level and was shaking my head over how the S9 couldn't get focus. What good is the biggest sensor going to do in that case
The S8 or Note 8 would be better competition to the V30. If you can handhold 1/2s you will beat what auto can do on the V30 because you let in two full stops of light in this case. That will exceed what a bigger sensor can do unless you repeat the same with it as well
Video isn't going to be too far off due to the small differernce in aperture, only focus will be quicker with samsung. And this is the strange thing, focus is fast on video but couldn't do it with stills

Yes I think it is a great camera, with the best software implementation and interface I've tried.
But low light is not its strong point, in saying that mobile cameras are always so bad there versus my dedicated cameras that it doesn't matter that much, if I expect to want to take usable night shots I'd take a real camera. On the other hand the wide angle camera on this has amazed me for daytime landscape shots.

The one camera that will dethrone all is potentially the P20 pro. You can take 4s handheld shots. Sharp. Get this it has no OIS!
Low light handling with huawei has always been good, the problem is you need a way to stabilise it. The image quality improves considerably if you let it have 10s say. It won't get brighter just better details
Course that is just the stills department, Video is likely to be another story.
I think low light has improved over the years in terms of how high ISO can go before you don't have a usable photo
Upto 2014 - no higher than ISO 400
2015 - goes up to ISO 800
2017 - now i think 1250 possibly 1600 is usable
No competition against your dedicated camera but you will always have your phone with you
That wide angle has a magic effect on people even those that don't like to take photos with phones

Main reason i wont switch to Samsung is phone size dimensions and screen ratio. Dont like the long and narrow screen that samsung is using.
In my opinion the lg v30 has the perfect size.

The V30 will be a more reliable shooter than the S9 in the examples i've cited. The V30 would not have the problems the S9 has.

Sorry, I love my v30 and it is still my daily driver (shipped the S9+ back today) but in auto mode the S9 was better in almost every situation for me. Not by much except with low light. You can spout stats all day long but unless you are using manual mode the v30 did not come close to the S9. See album. It is almost like someone turns a light on with the S9 photos compared to the v30. I don't know about video since i don't use it much but in low light I can't see how the v30 could produce better/less noise in video either.

Good, now we can have a conversation. I noticed both LG shots used AI shutter, this is LG's more intelligent night shot.
For a scene like this manual will get you a clearer shot, Been that way since the G4. Just go into manual and click, you don't change any settings at all. It just disables night shot. Will be sharper. Provided it gets focus which i think it did in your shots. Night shot is a mixed bag, there are times it will do quite well and others where it can make things worse
The one of the flowers is what makes you think the light got turned on. It's using spot metering there. The one with the trucks is using the default centre weighted. Note how the exposure is the same but the clarity is better with the S9.

Drop the LG down to 1/4 and you do the same compared to auto which won't go below 1/10

I understand all that, I'm just saying full auto, which is how most users will use the camera. The v30 is lacking. I don't want to have to press buttons and adjust settings. I just want to pull my phone out and quickly snap a photo or I'll miss the moment. Again, love my v30 and won't give it up for the better camera. However, if I want the best all around quick/auto/consistent camera phone I'll just reach over and grab my wife's pixel 2.

And you can do just that if it launches in manual for static subjects in low light. No adjusting settings. Everything is in auto.

I know the v30 can do much better in low light. i'm saying I don't want to have to switch my phone to manual mode every time I want to take photos indoors or in low light. Even if it is just switching the mode. I always live it in auto. That is how I'm comparing the cameras. LG should do a better job with auto mode, plain and simple. I don't have that issue with Pixel 2 either.

They've clung on to the night mode thing for a while now. If that happens the LG's losing almost every time.
I've never understood why they wouldn't allow slower shutter speeds in auto. Getting a 1/4 handheld sharp isn't difficult. I guess they are trying to account for people who might not have the steadiest of hands. Same with sammy too from what i could see with Max's shots. What explains the inability of the S9 to get clear shots ? did you find the S9 wanting for focus when you used it in low light. Your macros were fine, but what about outdoors, a harder test
it's rare you will ever get consistently good low light shots in auto particularly if there's bright lights in them even with the best of cameras. Max likes to show how the pixel can do this. Yeah it can and so can huawei. But it isn't hard to do with manual. One day I went around town at night with one set of settings and clicked away. There wasn't even a need for focus. Shots were instant. Sharp, way better & faster than auto. Took over a hundred shots, sometimes in the road with traffic. I had no more than a second or two.
But the pixel flattens images as well. Getting creative with a pixel with HDR+ on is harder than either of the Koreans. Can't do drama with a pixel. And all its strengths reduce with video because its like any other that too with mono recording in audio instead of stereo. I can't get comfortable with a camera that reduces the owner to a button presser
Hey, iv got my S20 today. Been playing around with the camera and can honestly say I'm truly disappointed. The quality is awful. It finds it really hard to focus on things and the image quality is pants.
Iv just come from a p20 pro which I think was brilliant, I actually rate the camera on the p20 (a 2 yr old phone) 100x better than the S20.
Am I missing something or doing something wrong?
Waiting to fix focus with some updates... The quality is not awful, I think... Not so good as I expected too, but I have a hope that with some next updates, things will get better at some point... maybe
It's bad... Gutted iv got 10 days to return it. Guessing it ain't going to be fixed within that time
On wich software is your phone running? Samsung did fixed the issue with software updates on my phone.
Newest I think, iv got April 1st security updates.

Got an s20 plus and the same situation in here, Can even focus anything, or any text on the main camera, as the front camera too. Disappointed, came from the mi9 with Gcam that took awesome pics.
Glad its not just me then, now I don't know if I should keep it or not. The main thing I use is the camera
For my s20+ samdung improved the Camera, esp the autofocus in the past 3 updates.. But still fail to fix the white balance in low light.
Photos taken esp food is always too warm or with red tint. Had to manually adjust white balance with adobe lightroom or snapseed.
I just wish samsung will fix the white balance as it is very obvious it's a firmware bug.
Autofocus is still bad but it improved woth firmware updates. Doesnt really bug me as i always press on the location to focus though..

I have noticed several things that really annoy me and are making me think about selling it after 2 weeks. Does anyone else notice:
1. Extreme saturation of the colors on picture. Contrast is way too high. I have not been able to fix this.
2. Autofocus is really poor
3. In bright light outside, people almost are orange when using video. Gras is extremely green, it is so ugly.
4. When sending video on Whatsapp, quality decreases extreme. Meaning color is almost gone, quality very low. (I mean way more than the usual decreae because of dropping)
Really dissapoimted given the price of this device.

Grass is Extremely Green?: It was doing that to me too but it wasn't the Camera. It was because in Display I had Screen mode set to Vivid and not Natural. If you have Vivid on ever Picture is going to look oversaturated. It's the screen doing that not the Camera.

Try turn off scene optimization, this will boost collars also.
Or HDR and see if u like it better.
WhatsApp always decrease picture and video quality, if u want it 100% than u should select document and search for your photo or video.

I know this.
Tried the adjustment of the screen but problem remains.
And as I stated in my post; i know quality decreases on whatsapp video messaging (wich makes sense). But in this case the video's go to totally different to no colour, lighting changes, etc. etc.
I know you can expect some quality decrease, but this is absurd.
I keep trying new things but I'm still shocked at the camera, every photo looks blury. I'm not getting a crisp photo no matter what i do.
Iv given up with the 64mp mode as they are the worse pictures! So one of the phones biggest selling points rite there is useless.
10mp does auto focus faster but the lag between pressing the shutter button and it actually taking causes photo blur

Try to send the photos taken with extreme contrast. If it's still appears on other ppls phone with extreme contrast.
I had this issue.. I noticed photo abnormally warm and over saturated. Then after I transfer the photo to pc, it looks just fine.
Then i saw somewhere on xda, try changing the display setting from vivid to natural. It's much better.

I can't anymore. After three weeks I sold mine. Dissapointed in Samsung. Looking for a K30 Pro now or even an Iphone 11.

Same here, got rid of mine, got a p30 pro... amazing.
I read on sammobile that they don't think they can fix some of the issues with the exynos chip. Some of the side by side comparison tests with the Snapdragon may as well be a different phone
