Lower screen resolution - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hi
I'm currently using redmi note 8 running a custom rom.
Is there a way to lower the screen resolution from 1080p to 720p?

You can do this with root via terminal apps. Not done this for a while but the command used to be wm size. So you would for example use the command, "wm size 720x1080".

I only find guides for other devices. How to change resolution I know, but I am not sure which settings will work. Usually I just carefully try, but I read that Changing Resolution and Dpi bricked some MIUI 11 Devices, so I am not sure, if I should do it. A bit more performance and battery would be great, but right know no money for a new phone, if somethings going wrong

I use this

[Solution] Solve resolution issue on Samsung i780 [i780 owner MUST READ]

I know many Samsung I780 owner is facing the resolution problem on that 320x320 display.
Some program is not work or identify the wrong resolution on it.
For example, the SlingPlayer mobile is recognized my i780 as 240x240 display and cannot support fullscreen playback with a small windows look like 160x160.
For this reason i tried Tweek2K2, but i did not support on non-Vga machine and Force High Resolution 1.65 but it didn't helpful to improve the screen layout.
Finally I try the old software “Nydiot Virtual Display 5.02” it solved all the resolution issue on my Samsung i780,
*** You should install the 96dpi respack, if you have any display problem ****
Now I can emulator to 320x240 and 240x320 resolution without dropping the system performance. (use 100% zoom, don’t scaler the screen)
**** You souhld type the "240" by your own in the combine box ****

After install the virtual display, the RealVga is useless, as the Nydiot Virtual display support 320x320 of i780 golden resolution. And i can switch to any resolution without reset the phone.
I am highly recommend the i780 owner to install this software.

Would be interested on how you managed to get 240x320 res. When I tried this software on fresh install no Real VGA nothing I only have opion for 320 or above res. There is no 240 in the drop down list in settings, Also messed up my icons in the program and settings screen.
Anyone else had any luck with this? I think I might have to stick with Real VGA unless I'm doing something wrong.
hi
i tried it extensively .. first i couldnt find the 240 res option and second .. until someone points out the ideal settings i wont be switching from realvgajust yet ! good find none the less !

if you type 240 on the combo box you'll get the 240. it supports 240x320 and 320x240. it's usefull in case you have some SW that do not work on default resolution.

Lowering res to 1080p

Hello guys,
is there a way to lower screen res to 1080p by default (for system and everything running)?
Thank you
You can google "wm size" and "wm density", for 1080p you might as well set the dpi to 420. I don't recommend you do this on stock rom though.
If you think this can help you save battery life, it won't.
If you want performance, the gpu is strong enough for most apps that you probably won't notice any different between FHD or QHD. For 3D gaming, HTC's boost+ can lower the game resolution to 1080p.
Indeed, if you change the resolution and density, they can make some apps acting weird.

It doesn't open apps faster, but it can make the UI smoother (transitions/scrolling). This is entirely subjective of course, and then there's the variables of different rom/kernel combinations

DPI and Resolution change without Root on Stock

Hey I'm running stock without root on my G3.
Today I stumbled across this post https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...creen-resolution-without-root-access-0160439/ and i was wondering if anyone had tried it on a G3.
Do you think it would break the UI and if I did this I would get into a bootloop?
It's such a shame that we have a qhd screen and the ui elements are so big. I want to take advantage of the size and resolution of this display.
Also does anyone know a way to change the resolution to 1080p without root? I've heard that it improves performance by a lot.
Thanks in advance!
There was many discussions about that. But stock ROMs or stock based ROMs doesn't support 1080p as the LG apps doesn't support dpi lower than 527. It is possible to lower the resolution a bit on stock roms.

Ohh okay thanks

Native 4k or 2k in almost every rom

Hey guys after experience alot all xz premium ROMs I am want to share you have to can have 4k or 2k this is my method and my app.
1-install this app for first (no permission at all just root)https://mega.nz/#!HABFwaRZ
2-go to app and set type infos for resolution
3-for 4k set DPI 821 for 2k 560 and press apply if it doesn't apply just close the app and open it again
4-get a app that you can edit your build prop with that and set DPI to what you changed in 3
Reboot and enjoy your phone.
I'm used a AOSP rom who can switch to 4k so easy in extended setting but that's so laggy when switch to 4k best rom for using 4k is turbo rom.
Note:this is not native resolution but DPI is get native with edit in build prop Wich is necessary to haven't black recently and small windows but I found no difference between native resolution and non native resolution,it's look like sony lied to us and our phone haven't a 4k screen because I easily see the display pixels in native 4k Wich created by Sony in AOSP.
It is a 4k panel.. when you download AIDA 64 it shows your native display res is 2160p. ( in a non-rooted sony XZP with no Resolution emulation , running stock 1080p) also i found this guy who removed a sony XZP who confirms its a 4K panel.. ill try to post the link.
also how can you see them pixels. @[email protected] man im a training pilot and i have 20/20 vision and i cant see a pixel . Are you sure your phone was not repair ( refurbished?).

Yeah I'm not say I'm 100 percent sure about that but if it's 4k you never can use it .

you can... whenever you are watching native 4k content. Im alright with this , but it'll be cool to have native 4K unlocked in everything else. Although i doubt the 835 can work smoothly.

its not rare if you ask me.. you can easily get them . ( i agree that you cant expect them same level of clarity and fps compared to original blue-ray disks*)
but then again its waaaaaay better to watch 2160p 10 bit HDR h265 files than watching 1080p 10bit files , yes and its very noticeable
*( you cant archive the same 4K blue-ray disk quality in movies with 4K digital rips unless someone actually crack the security code and rip them lossless)
also if you DM me , ill send you a link to get really good 4K rips of movies for around 2-5GB avg . Fyi you can hardly notice the difference when you are side by side watching the original blue-ray disk on your tv and the digital copy on your phone. ( because i did that test with the original blue-ray -jumanji disk and the ripped copy on my phone )

I'm confused. The title says "Native 4k or 2k" but your note states that this is not native?
This seems exactly the same as using the adb command "wm size", to emulate 4k/2k. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think changing the resolution is on the kernel level. Latest AOSP for XZP contains the extended settings to change resolution yes, but there's still an issue. It isn't fixed yet. -- https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/bug_tracker/issues/94

Dpi:821
Tested lot of time and always worked just some times you need to reopen the app for applying the changes.
Isn't this literally the same thing as using the ADB commands that doesn't require root?

How is rooting your device, which requires a PC btw, and then installing an app to change your wm size and dpi easier and faster than just using the ADB commands?
Doing it through ADB doesn't even take 30 seconds.

Man if you doesn't use your phone rooted why you came here because i cant find such a thing who will work on unrooted devices if you don't want to use this app so don't use it,you don't need pc for root if you are not a noob ok? And you can always use this app to change your resolution to everything you want and you can revert to your stock resolution so easy.

Let me explain about my behavior for you i never use my phone without twrp and i have a lot of rom file in my sd card so then every time i want to flash a new rom just go to recovery whipe everything(of course i backup my data with titanium backup) flash new rom if this rom is carbon just flash magisk for root if it's a customized stock rom it will be prerooted and if that a untouched rom i will flash a appropriate kernel (i also have a lot of kernel in my sdcard) then flash magisk and drm fix depend on kernel (drm fix is differ for janjan kernel).
Thats all.

Reduce Resolution Application

Hello Good morning, I would like to take a question please, I have the Galaxy Tab S-T800, do you have any application to reduce its resolution? so that the battery lasts a little longer and what resolution and dpis do you recommend? I try to leave it in 720p or even in 480p, I found some apps more every time I change the resolution it gives an error and the screen is unpropitious, since I thank you for your help and if the topic does not follow the forum rule I'm sorry

If you're rooted just download Screen shift from Play Store. You can change DPI, resolution even aspect ratio with it.
