Serious issue in Lineage O.S. - Possibility of leaking data towards google - LineageOS Questions & Answers

This is about the captive portal login. (No gapps installed)
OK, I know, the system makes a quick login to a server in order to check the conncetion's health, and you (Los devs) chouse a Google server to avoid security risks, however, the server can keep data relevant to the identification of the device who loged in, as well as the exact time of loging in, along with the location info if the connection is done via WiFi.
...so I disabled the captive portal login by typing the order ''captive_portal_detection_enabled 0'' in the terminal (with SU access) and restarted my device.
...Guess what happened --> When I connected to WiFi, the exact same Google server was connected to the ''unified location'' (TCP6 established)
...so we are still forced to give up private data to Google.
Why are you doing this Los devs???
Some of us chose to use Lineage o.s. without gapps for privacy. Why are you letting us down???

Thank goodness after many hours of search I found a solution here https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/cldrym/how_to_degoogle_lineageos_in_2019/ along with solutions for other Los leaks, all relevant to Google. The solutions that I've tried from this page, seem to work quite well for now

Bro how are you getting in with Los?
Is it doing what we hope is intended - i.e. shielding from all things Google?
From reading that Reddit thread you kindly linked, it seems to me we are required to further degogle any Lineage OS installation?
Am I understanding this correctly?
I had initially assumed by successfully installing Los without gapps would be suffice.
But I now suspect that is not the case, the Reddit post leads me to believe a lot of tweaking is required to entirely degoogle the OS.
If you could please bring me upto date I'd seriously appreciate it ??

douleuei akoma to solution?

Hey,
As I see in LineageOS 17.1 changelog the captivate portal detection method had cutted off:
https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_packages_apps_SetupWizard/+/297483
So, in android 9.0 or higher if you set up the Private DNS option to, for example: dns.quad9.net you phone shoukd not contact with google anymore.
Or it is? When I wrote this I thinked where is the phone gets the time sync. After I read a lot the answer will be the same somehow: it uses some of the google domains, like time.android.com, so i set it up by hand (I rooted my phone), through a terminal with the following commands:
su
settings put global ntp_server 1.europe.pool.ntp.org
set the name whatever you like

Interesting Privacy article out 6 Oct, lots on the interweb today. Android in general, and also LineageOS discussed. There is the usual tradeoff between data needed for functionality and innovation vs just revenue. The point is it could be more transparent, and give users some choices.

Bluetooth functionality
Hi, Chris,
amazing work! I am so glad to see that finally someone managed to get CM 11 running on our Fairphones! One question: Is it correct that Bluetooth functionality is still missing? Just asking because the WIKO Stairways, which you also seem to take care of, has a very similar hardware architecture and as far as I understand, the CM 11 ROM provided by you already offers bluetooth functionality. Is there a big difference between these two devices?
Apart from the missing bluetooth functionality I am very tempted to try your ROM ...
Keep up the good work and thank you!
Next steps and what can we do?
Thanks, Chris, for your great work. It's awesome to see that CM on Fairphone is possible after all.
The list of known bugs/missing features still includes some items which are a show stopper for many users. I'm one of them. Therefore I'd like to see some progress in these regards. IMHO it would be of great help for potential contributors if there was some sort of coordination on what has to be done.
Chris, do you mind elaborating what the issues with the known bugs are? What are areas which you already work on? What are problems which someone else could tackle? And, most importantly, where should one start?
I'd like to try and give it a go. However I know already that I'm not likely to get very far unless I can discuss issues and get some help. So, what are you currently working on and what do you suggest to start with?
Regards,
jftr

A short Google search suggests to update Clockworkmod to the latest version. Have you tried that?
Here is more information regarding the issue (Unfortunately I can't post any links yet, so you have to remove the space after http)
http ://android.stackexchange.com/questions/62982/flashing-cm-11-i-get-set-metadata-recursive-some-changes-failed

"set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed" : solution
I have found the solution in a french forum : remplace the "update-binary" file inside the ROM : /META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary with the version on the forum below

Settings crashing and other bugs following
I have a series of problems at hand with my FP1 that has Cyanogenmod. I would be very grateful if anyone here could help me out with any of them, as FP zendesk etc. couldn't.
Firstly, the Systems settings menu and now even Manage apps -menu don't open. When I try, they just flash quickly on the screen without allowing any time to even read them. This problem started smaller last winter and then disappeared, but now it has come back and is getting worse and causing other problems. First it was just the system settings menu. But now it concerns also manage apps. I can't even make a downloaded new app work because the phone doesn't let me allow them any superuser rights from the settings.
-The first time this happened I could reformat my phone. But the problem now is that I don't want to loose all my stuff, so I want to do backup first. However: - the phone doesn't detect the SD-card that is inside. -I have Cyanogenmod instead of Google, so backing up using cable+Google Plus is not an option. I downloaded MyBackupPro for this, but the phone doesn't allow me to grant it superuser rights so I can't use it. So is there any other way to backup my phone?
-Now another problem that costs me actual money (I hope that my operator will compensate it later) is that some bug is "sending" non-existent SMS to some Finnish numbers and to one number abroad. In reality there are no SMS sent but on the bill it shows as if I had sent for example 2-4 text messages at the same time. Avast! Mobile security virus scanner didn't find anything. I aimed to remove some of the apps I had lately installed, in case that some of them had brought a bug along, just to notice that I can't even access the apps menu anymore in order to do so.
After schecking detailed call reports from my operator, I also noticed that all the sms that are a couple of rows longer, are sent as 2< messages. So even when I think I sent one longer message, at the bill it is counted as two or more..
Fortunately I could create a bugreport, which I will try to attach here asap (apparently need to compress it first...). It is a few days old, but soon after that I took the simcard off so & haven't used the phone much offline, either, so I guess the report should still be quite up-to-date (?).
So it would be great if someone that can interpret the report/ othwerwise has a clue what this could be about, would tell me their advise in terms of where I might start solving this bunch of problems!
(Should be the last time when person like me who doesn't understand much about software buys an alternative phone and installs an even more alternative operating system for it..and then finds herself in a mess like this with no idea how to get out..)
I'm sorry to hear that. It seems you thoroughly infested your phone with malware. I strongly suggest you reflash to get rid of the malware in its entirety.
Regarding backups: If you feel comfortable using the command line, you could try to connect to your phone from your computer using adb. There is a backup command and you can just copy files directly.
Good luck
Thanks for your reply!
I only use command line when I have step by step-instructions for it, not independently. . . Fortunately the link you gave seems to have quite clear instructions. I'll check that soon!

I would use Helium for you backup. It can use cloud storage as backup destination. This solves your SD card issue. You also can use your PC to enable the backup without having root. This solves your root issue.
Thankyou for your expert tips!
I couldn't install neither Helium nor Android SDK that is needed for ADB , because as I said the phone settings don't open so that I could have allowed any app superuser rights.
(Actually in safe mode the settings do open but that, in turn, doesn't show any appstore available so that I could download anything new.....)
But fortunately I could upload all my photos into Dropbox and eventually managed to download and use a simple app for SMS-backups --> Dropbox. All the rest doesn't matter so much, as the apps I'll need I can download again.
So, now the backup problem is solved and I can proceed to the reformatting phase. It's probably wiser that I choose the default platform (Google ) this time in order to avoid further headaches that easily come when going too alternative with too little skills for that!
Thanks for this nice work! I was waiting long for CM on my fairphone.
Unfortunately I had to change back because of issues with the SIM management. It was not possible to switch on or off a SIM card except by going via Airplane mode and there were issues with connecting to a data network on both SIM-slots. Smaller issues were the missing BT and worse battery life than before.
Impaired battery
Summing up my problems / experiences with the battery performance after using CyanogenMod for a couple of weeks on my fp1: Over time (especially after upgrading to m11) I noticed a steadily growing loss of battery performance over time. The rear part of the device often seems hotter, especially when charging or when extensively using my phone. I can compare with my gf fp1 who uses the original FP OS. Compared with hers, the battery now seems bloated, significantly lasts shorter, shows inaccurate battery percentages (at the beginning dropping from 20 % to 0 in no time. Now even dropping from 40 - 50 % to 0).
I tried to calibrate the battery a couple of times with various apps, but the main problem with that is that I am not able to charge the battery with the phone shut down, as the phone automatically switches on when connected to an active charger. A short search revealed, that it's probably due to a kernel issue with the costum rom. Trying out other types of chargers didn't solve the problem.
Another thing I noticed, is that FPOS as well as CyanogenMod display strange MV values (2 - 4 mV while a fully charges battery should display up to 4200 MV - again see attached picture) in the app Battery calibration.
In order to figure out whether the battery is really impaired, I switched batteries with my gfs FP1. Both have been in use for the same time and both were charged with the same charging cables as well as used in similar patterns.
My battery lasted significantly shorter in my gfs FP with FP OS compared with her normal battery. Her battery worked better in mine, still it didn't lasted as long as her phone.
Another strange thing I found was that sometimes the battery doesn't only drops dead, it sometimes also gets stucked at 1 % for quite a while (see attached files). With no way to resolve this by calibrating the battery.
In all likelyhood no problem with CM as it seems to have appeared with FP OS as well see https: // forum.fairphone.com/t/battery-problem-after-cherry-1-6-update-battery-might-be-dying/

I was just thinking the same thing.. maybe using www dot bountysource dot com ?
I too would be very glad to pay and/or to contribute with testing or code in order to get Android 4.3 or 4.4 on my Fairphone.
I need it because of the Low Energy Bluetooth feature, which would enable FP to talk with fitness tracker devices...
Is @chrmhoffmann or anybody else in here still interested in pursuing a full (or at least working) port of CM to FP?
Please note that at present days, there is not defined upgrade path for FP... so this would be quite an effort but also a very nice solution for the future of FP software.
Hi,
has anybody tried to build a custom rom using the SDK provided by Media-Tek?
I've downloaded the four SDK packages granted by Media-Tek. You get the SDK packages only on request from the MediaTek Support, if you are already registred at the MediaTek-Lab.
Kind regards

Strange "RootPA" app on my HTC 10. Is it a potential security issue?

Im using a HTC 10 (EU variant). Today i was scrolling through "Netguard" (if you dont know it, its an app to prevent other apps from internet access), since i configured it to show system apps it displays way more apps than the normal app overview in the settings. In there i found an app called "RootPA" and one called "root", which seems strange since i didnt unlock the bootloader or root on my own. The details in the RootPA entry say "com.gd.mobicore.pa", no idea if thats helpfull to determine the origin of this mysterious app.
Can you help me with this?
Did you Google it?
I did, but the results were not realy usefull. I found someone with a modded Galaxy S3 who deleted a RootPA on accident and broke stuff, but that ssems unrelated. Are there any things i could do to find out more about the app installed on my phone without root?
I cant say its something I've ever seen. If this person in the past removed it, and it broke stuff, that would suggest that it may have been a system app and he was rooted. From what I managed to find on google, it is part of a security suite (mobicore) used by networks to monitor what the state of the phone is, presumably incase something happens, and it was the user fault, and they know for a fact because they have logs of what the phone has done.
[ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE] Allows applications to access information about networks
[INTERNET] Allows applications to open network sockets. (i.e send information)
[READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE] Allows an application to read from external storage.
[READ_PHONE_STATE] Allows read only access to phone state.
A friend of mine got his HTC 10 2 days ago, ill ask him to look for this app. Its unlikely we would have the same virus/whatever installed.
Edit: He just reseted his 10 (due to missing language options, but thats another topic), but still found "root" and "rootPA" on his phone, so its preinstalled (although i still dont understand whats its purpose).
RootPA is provides service for provisioning secure applications that run on ARM trustzone and t-base OS (formerly mobicore). It is preinstalled in some vendors Android devices (search for this string on the internet: htc-devices-to-incorporate-trustonic-t-base-tee), but mostly unused as far as I know. The source code of some versions is available on the Internet (e.g. on github /Faryaab/android_hardware_samsung_slsi_exynos5410/tree/master/mobicore/rootpa).
It has nothing to to with rooting or unrooting the device.
PA route is very dangerous I had some I have somebody who has hacked into my phone through this particular program so to speak I have a lot of issues right now with my phone trying to get them off of my phone and this seems to be the root cause or the start of it have anybody knows how I can clear my phone and my Ram from the Vicious hacker I appreciate it I'm tired of being watched and recorded everything I do

Lineage OS 16 connects to car, but car says ^"Bluetooth Device is Locked"

Aloha,
It readily connects to a car, or F-150 in my case, but it constantly gives the above^ message every time you push the media button in the car, just in case you ever tire of commercials on the radio. I deleted the connection a couple of times before figured out it was the phone blocking it. I think it is similar to the constant Privacy Guard notices, "XYZ app will not be able to access your personal information." But the phone is not personal information. It is an appendage that connects you to WWW.:cyclops:
I want to listen to my music, not commercials. Calls can be made, but I have not yet received a call so not sure if that works. I know I saw in an earlier version release notes, 14.1, release notes it says it can't connect to cars. So it is an improvement. And haven't tested 17.1 since @Claymore1297 's Rom for 10 android, 17.1 (which I used initially,) says in its' internal workings that it is in fact Android 17.1. Only discovered this because his version of Gapps for Android 10 won't install because of it. (note the Gapps site does not as of yesterdays have a build for 10 or 17.1 at least not of the stock.)
The other pertinent details are my device is an HTC One M9 with a battery life of only three or four clicks most times, but works when plugged into an external power source e.g. the car.
I may have just found a solution. Google Play Protect is the source of above mentioned Privacy Guard. Disable it. Or just go into Google setting and turn off. Which is what I just did. But Now I need to drive somewhere and (I have had to much to drink, 2 beers at 7.8%) So It can wait till tomorrow. (Alas Google is trying to run our lives. Even after disabling in Google settings and rebooting it still pop ups saying Privacy Guard is protecting you from yourself. Time to disable in app settings.) I just noted the fact that when I click on the i icon it takes me to the Android System app info. So maybe it is not the Google self protection service, but I need to verify in apps if it re-enabled itself. Far too many Google and carrier apps can do this. So much for painting the Google machine black, the setting is still turned off. (this is turning into a step by step trial and error solution post.)
p.s. @MishaalRahman 2004+1^n Thanks
p.s.s I just checked the Lineage official website (See No Links in initial post) and there is only a build on there for HTC One 2014 (m8) no m9.
Lineage Privacy Guard enabling apps post
Aloha,
Well on my search for improving the above situation I came across the following post on here by @OhioYJ about using the command prompt and a script to set a permissions to shut up the constant Privacy Guard.
[Guide] Improve / Fix Privacy Guard in Lineage
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3739136 (not an outside link)
My theory as of now is that Bluetooth is just another app that is Guarded to death, rather than notified to death
It was just the Bluetooth permission for HD audio
For some dumb reason, the settings for individual bluetooth pairings has a number of permissions not enabled by default. Just enable it then delete the connection stored in the vehicles and I've got tunes. No scratchiness in previous versions.
But the vehicle still complains with the same message because I don't allow contacts.

SOS! Please HELP - XM10T5G Down[&up]grading..

Have the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G, which comes with Android 10 / MIUI 12 [Sort of combination of them i think], and i wanna install an older version of android only, lower than 10 [Preferably 7.0], is it possible to do at all? If so, then how exactly can i do that? if possible with exact instruction or guide to it..
Thanks ahead..

For many reasons.. They changed it in some very bad way for my opinion.. like the auto turning on WiFi by some apps, like some apps that don't have widgets, the call recording issue and many more very annoying unreasonable changes they did on A10 on.. saw also they only allow FBE encryption instead of FDE which is much better [That i can see for huge 128, 256 or maybe 512 Gigs Storages but still it should be up to the user decision not forcing]
So you say it's completely impossible? even if flash universal / rooted ROM? no way at all?! cause man those are really annoying stuff especially to the tech Pros and/or savvy's like us, and i know that since i saw many threads and posts in other forums about those issues too.. To be honest I don't understand none of your points.
1. Wifi can be still turned on by apps, you just need to enable the permission (allow always vs. allow only when app is running in foreground).
2. Call recording is working in regions where it's not forbidden by privacy laws.
3. FBE is much better because it allows you to start the phone with basic service without using the password. Not sure why do you consider FDE to be superior.
4. Well, you can try to build your own Android 7 ROM from old sources, but you're going to have a fun time adapting to vendor partition/proprietary files created for Android 10 or 11. Also using several years old code which is not supported or patched anymore is quite interesting approach to security.

Maybe it's regional or SROMs based issue, but the vendor of the app said it's not allowed on Android 10 and on, and i did confirmed the permission to turn on WiFi automatically, but maybe there's some other settings that i missed and that guy was wrong, i'd love if you can show how to enable it globally and/or to just the auto file sync i use, cause i tried many times even with manual syncing [by clicking the Sync button when WiFi is off, it started and turn it off automatically on Android 7.0.. Of course also for time interval based sync]..

Hi.. Thanks for your reply.. i did that already before, but still it doesn't work.. i use FolderSync, that currently in my old Android 7.0 device, does syncing when i click Sync from within the app, while i was totally offline [Data and Wifi] so it turned on the Wifi connection [Specific home network], and also on Scheduled i inserted the Allowed Networks SSID [Which BTW when i turn on WiFi manually and it does sync it with GDrive, it say on top 'Unknown SSID' for case it matters {Had the feeling that it very much does}], I also switced it on in Data and WiFI limit it does on that Security app, which i guess is kind of firewall, and BTW i remember like 5-6 years ago i had the Lenovo A8 "Golden Worrier" has that same kind of Security app built in with firewall and all that, but still manually at least, as i checked, it doesn't turn on the Wifi via FolderSync app.. Got a strong feeling it's due to that Unknown SSID stuff or that Security app.. Could it be?..

FolderSync doesn't turn Wifi On automatically, this feature seems to be missing in the app. But I've just tested with Tasker and it is able to turn Wifi On and Off, so it's not a problem of Android version.
For Allowed SSID feature in FolderSync you must enable permanent location access.
Btw. I see no point in turning Wifi Off at any point, it uses so little power that there is next to none benefit in doing it. If you insist on some kind of automation, use Tasker in a fully controlled manner.

Well your first argument is actually not tru, FolderSync does turns on Wifi automatically as i do for like 4 years with my older Galaxy s6 [Great dev BTW, Samsung's first 64 bit device i thinks] running now Android 7.0, and also the other day and im sure if ill try this right now it will actually turning on WiFi from off mode and also automatically closed it when done syncing, but no matter what i did it doesn't doing it on the XM10T5G, and it both updated to the latest FolderSync version the one with those tiles.. so it must be something with the operation system.. again it's some kind of Andro/MIUI OS so it has to do with one of them..
About the SSID, i did confirmed the location access all the time [not just when it's used] on the Security app, is there any other place that i should enable location or any other settings that may be relating to this?..
And really? you don't see the point in using Wifi? It's much more faster, secure, and reliable than data.. of course i don't care if it'll be 4G or 5G even better to sync, but obviously not any connection, but thanks for the Tasker Tip, i'll try that.. i've heared that somewhere i think from the gut of FolderSync..
And BTW, the call recording is legal in my country, so i did also many years but here only after trying several apps i found Cube ACR working good.. And also, some apps ask you if you confirm that Call recording is legal in your country but of course if you flash custom or different ROM, the system obviously can never tell..
Peace..

Peace..

I see no point in turning wifi OFF.
Anyway, good luck finding/building your perfect Andoid 7 ROM.

Again security and energy reasons.. Think about it..
Anyway i barely know how to flash ROM, so i'm very far from building a custom one.. But at start you said it's impossible to install / flash an older Android ROM to it [XM10T5G], so you say it's possible with custom ROM?

Again - not possible, such ROM doesn't exist.

Question Multiple users on a freaking tablet in the 21st freaking century!!! (a little frustrated :) )

I bought this Mi Pad 5 (EU version) in hopes to have multiple users to switch between.
There is an app, SwitchMe, which (I think) would solve my problems, but I just bought the damn thing and have no need to loose warranty just to unlock the bootloader and root it in order to use the beforementioned app.
The included solution from MIUI, second room, doesn't allow the second user, to connect to google. Nor easy way to switch between users (actually, easy way to switch to first user, but not back to second user, AND only while using the tablet and not from lock-screen).
The last thing I found on the internet was, to enable multiple users via developer options.
The way to enable multiple user is to turn off MIUI optimization. But that is not an option on my tablet. As in, there is no slider to swipe to off.
Have I missed anything? Are there any way to have multiple users on a freaking tablet in the 21st freaking century?
Save me! you wonderful super nerds!
Hello,
Try post #20 of this :
Cannot access Google
Hello, Just got the tablet, it was really quick. Ordered when it went for sale in Italy on Thursday and today Friday morning already received it. Maybe I'm one of the first to receive the tablet with Global ROM, but I'm going to ask anyway: I...

I've had the same frustrations and can't for the life of me understand why Xiaomi would feel the compulsion to strip away Android's core multi-user stuff just to introduce a half-baked porrly thought out substitute. What if we're more than 2 in our household anyways ?
If the above suggestion kind of works for some google accounts, it won't for accounts supervised with family link. So if you wanted to share the tablet with a kid, registered as such, you're out of luck. I'm in the process of trying a custom ROM to get rid of MIUI, because I already can't stand the thing. And that makes me sad, because I thought such OEM nonsense had been left behind YEARS ago, and I can now see I was deeply mistaken :-(
So I have the pro version and I can connect to google just fine.
But when I go try it on the regular pad 5 yeah it can't connect both on second space and multiple users. Is it a rom issue maybe? that might get fixed?
Anyway.. to access multiple users try this:
1.Download Activity launcher from the play store.
2. Open the app and search for "multiple users".
Click on it and add users from there.
Extra step: press & hold on "multiple users" to create a shortcut to this menu to your home screen.
Make sure to enable Home screen shortcuts permission for the app first.
It's still inconvenient to use. Only way to access other profiles is from that settings menu.
And it won't connect to google, just wait and hit skip.

You can switch between the users using different passwords from the lockscreen. I'm using a different pattern for the second space.
You can switch to first and back to second user while using the tablet just you have to enable it from the settings. " add shortcut to home screen"
Also check the solutions on the mentioned thread above. I can see on post #24 someone got it connected to google on second space.
@Half Alive , you rock ! While I was waiting for Xiaomi to allow me to unlock the bootloader on my Pad 5, I tried your suggestion with Activity Launcher and, lo and behold, it worked ! I was able to add my son's Google account and family link is now doing its thing. Now, since the multiuser features are still there, why did Xiaomi jumped through hoops to hide them ? That still feels quite a bit dumb to me, but hey, as long as I can use them, I guess it'll do.
Thanks again !
I can confirm that the fix mentioned on the other thread is working to fix the login error on the second space Account. To solve the problem do the following:
* Go to Apps, show all
* Google Play Store -> uninstall updates
* Google Play Services -> uninstall updates (after this the app list disappear)
* You can go to the Play store and login
* Repeat for the other space if necessary
Thanks for the help

I posted my thread late December and unfortunately forgot all about it. Though I did have my dad and his wife staying over new year, so I was preoccupied.
Thank you for your replies and I will test the posted solution come dawn, and report back after that.
Thank you all for your contribution!
I am now a happy owner of a tablet with multiple users via second space. Not as polished as I would like it. But it works and I'm happy.
Thank you

Hi, can I have details on how you managed to get family link to work?
I tried to install my child's profile first but it wouldn't let me, kept hanging on family link manager. I also removed all accounts and added mine first and tried to set up multiple users but I couldn't set up the account. It would just loop on trying to contact Google. I also tried to uninstall updates and clear data on Google play and services without success.
Well, I ended up installing a phh GSI on it, because switching profiles was way too bothersome for everyday use in the end. So I can only try to remember, but I don't think I did anything other than what you said coupled with the trick mentionned by @Half Alive . I'm sorry I can't remember doing anything else :-/

Not a prob. Thanks anyway. I'll keep hacking away at it. Hopefully the MIUI 13 update sorts it. Otherwise I'll have to try an alternate rom too. Thanks.

Updated today to MIUI 13 Global version and.... not working. Again boot loop while configuring second space as a child's account
For anyone interested in setting up a managed child's account, I seemed to have figured it out. Take note, this is only for a single child's account on the Tab 5. Not for a tab being shared by two users.
When I first got the Tab, I set it up with a child's account and it was successful but I couldn't manage the account from family link and so tried to remove the accound and re add it but despite all the tricks above, it didn't work.
But this did work:
Totally factory reset the device and on the first boot set up the tab with the child's account. On this attempt everything went totally smooth (with no additional tricks). The account works fine and is totally managed by Family Link. Have been using it for almost a week smoothly.

With this particular option, one single child account, does it allow to install miui system updates? Tried with miui 12 with no luck

Yee, I updated to miui 13 a couple of weeks ago. No problem. But I did install family link on my phone to monitor the device. No problem on the update. All has been working smoothly.
