Netflix on Mi Max 3 MIUI 11.03 China Rom? - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

Wondering if anyone has gotten this to work, or is it pretty much mandatory to switch to a non-China ROM? If its the latter:
1. Any ROMs that work well with the 128GB China model?
2. Any advice on getting MI's GetApps (China appstore)?
Thanks in advance!

My Mi Max 3 is a Chinese version that comprises the unlocked bootloader and a global Rom on Aliexpress
In my case, I installed xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMAX3_V11.0.2.0.QEDCNXM_v11-10 is based in stable China, with several languages without Chinese apps, already has Play Store, to install Netflix

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 global version

I'd like to buy a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 which is currently available only in the chinese version (sold with the chinese MIUI). I read that soon it will be on sale also in the global version (with the global MIUI out of the box). I was wondering if the only difference between the two variants is the firmware included or there are other differences
Just the ROM. You can unlock the Chinese version, and flash the MIUI EU or Epic ROM right now and have something very similar to the Global ROM right now.

Thanks, so if I flash the official global MIUI when it will be out it would be identical to the one sold as global version and I'll be able to get the OTA updates?
Presumably.
They just announced 2 hours ago that's it coming to India on the 10th. We can probably expect an official global ROM around that time.
I believe the English Version version at https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_786413.html is the global version. It support many frequencies for AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.

I bought that one, and it is the Chinese ROM, but the hardware is the same. I registered my phone with my MIUI account and was able to unlock the bootloader three days later. Now I am running the EU ROM and everything just works.

+1 Same here,another from GearBest.
As you mentioned, the hardware is the same across the board, there are no region-specific models, just like with OnePlus & their latest, the OP5.
Only internal hardware variations are w/RAM & Storage, the rest is identical,no matter where you buy it.
If the original rom has chinese and english and I want to use english anyway, why is everyone changing to the eu or global roms?
You have less Chines grap on your phone (apps)

Remove the all the Chinese apps, and several things like Netflix and Contacts just work better (or at all).

Max 3 with 6/128 and Global rom?

Am I right in thinking that there isn’t an official global rom for the 6/128 version?
The only one I can find is from tradingshenzhen, who have it at $300, but as it says ‘Unlocked Bootloader’ AND global on the info I’m guessing that they’ve flashed the China model with the 4/64 global rom and I’m not sure that’s a good idea!!!
Can anyone confirm this and if flashing the 6/128 with the 4/65 global is going to throw up any issues?
No problem at all. Take it

You are right, the 6GB 128GB model never made it to the global market.
Its targeted only to china but it has been shown not to be any issue flashing global rom onto it because it boots up and it runs with global just fine.
The 4GB 64GB phone is starting to show up in local stores for around the same price I paid for the 6GB model so I'm glad I bought it from tradingshenzhen and didn't wait for something that was never going to happen
Edit: Btw selecting the unlocked bootloader tradingshenzhen flash the Xiaomi.eu rom onto the phone, so its not an issue with fake rom as seen on aliexpress, they don't advertise it to be a "genuine stock rom"

Many thanks. Good to know someone has it and it works!
My concern was that the memory map was static at 4/64 and even though there was more memory the rom couldn't access it.
I'll order one as soon as the mad Christmas rush has ended.

How did you go by ARB fence on Mi MAX 3?
Hi guys .
Mi Max 3 just got the Anti-Rollback system added to any firmware above 8.8.17 China Beta and 9.6.12.0 China stable.
In the link1 the "MIUI Device team" member said any transition from CN to Global will make an brick.
The only way is going to the service center after unlock bootloader.
How did you go by ARB fence on Mi MAX 3?

Where Do I Buy Mi Max 3 with EU Rom?

Hi guys,
Could you guys suggest to me a website that sells the xiaomi mi max 3 with EU rom? Or is it possible to buy a global rom and flash it with EU rom?
.

The rom from xiaomi.eu is not an official firmware, it's a custom rom based on China rom with some tweaks. You can flash it on both China and Global device.

I'm a bit confused. I just want to buy it so I can root and nandroid it if possible. So you suggest that I buy the global version then flash it with official EU rom? I'm confused.
before Global rom released tradingshenzhen used to have option whether you want your phone shipped with china rom or EU rom.
but ever since official global rom released, they only ship with global rom option.
you can just buy any phone with global rom and flash it with EU rom.
this required unlock bootloader wait time varies from hours to days.
there are guides about this everywhere.

Hi pakudaboy. So I can buy any phone with global rom and flash it with EU rom like you said. But you also said the bootloader can take hours or days to unlock if I flash with EU rom? Is this accurate? How is that possible?

hi there,
sorry for the late reply.
yes you can flash EU rom over global rom version once you unlocked your bootloader.
unlocking bootloader for xiaomi depends on your xiaomi account. if you never use that account to unlock before then it might take days of wait time to get verified. in my opinion it's all worth it. since Max 3 is a good phone in all specs (yes including camera with google camera moded)
just fyi, EU rom is based on china dev rom. and it has been stable for pretty much all users.

I wouldn't buy from those shops if you want a global device.
When you look in the reviews you see Chinese devices on all photos.
But if you are flashing EU rom is doesn't matter if you have global or Chinese device, hardware is the same, only the charger is different.
Edit:
At the moment Banggood is the cheapest:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-mi-max-3
They sell official Global devices. And when you choose priority direct mail you don't have extra import costs.

Are there any problems with a China Max 3 6/128 running a global 4/64 rom?

One of the Ali sellers has a good price on the China 6/128 flashed with the global 4/64 rom. Are there any issues running these? Either for ota or flashing a custom rom??
Thanks
I don't know what you mean with a "4/64 rom", but I have a 6/128GB model and I'm running the stable version of xiaomi.eu (MIUI 10.3.1.0) without any problems.

What I mean is, Xiaomi have never made a global version of the 6/128 model of the Max 3. But there are dealers on AliExress that are selling the 6/128 with the global rom and an unlocked bootloader. So they must have flashed that with the global rom (from the 4/68 global rom).
In that case, are there any issues running the China 6/128 version with the global rom from the 4/68 version? I'm thinking mainly of how the memory map on the phones is arranged?

Well from my limited knowledge that I gained reading tons of threads about the Max 3, it seems that this vendor used a "fake unlock" for the phone and you might have quite a bit of trouble updating because of that.
I'm not sure if you would run into problems by just running the global version of the rom on the Chinese version of the device but I guess not, otherwise I'm sure that I would have read that somewhere.
If you go forward buying the device, please inform yourself about this fake unlock of Chinese vendors, there is some information around about that.
But if you want to go the safer route, buy the device at a vendor that sells it with the Chinese rom and then unlock it yourself (you will most likely have to do that as well with the fake unlocked one) and then flash any rom you wish.
I bought mine from Tradinshenzhen and I'm very pleased with the entire process (around 3 Weeks to austria without any further cost and just 15€ shipping. you can get 5€ off by signing up for their newsletter).
And for me personally I'm using the xiaomi.eu stable rom as mentioned earlier. It offers quite a bit of improvement over the official rom, but some report that it's not running "stable" for them. Don't know what they are talking about, for me it's running just fine.

Many thanks. I hadn't realized that there even were fake roms!
It sounds far safer to buy the China 6/128 and do it yourself! I've used Tradinshenzhen in the past, so I'll see what they have.
Thanks again
Im using also the 6/128GB version, which was unofficial unlocked. I'm using latest xiaomi.eu beta roms since a whole time. All fine

I know that it is possible, but it is quite a hassle. You need to re-lock the bootloader and make sure you get a proper Rom. Of course it can be done, no question.
But I guess it makes more sense to buy a legitimate phone + Rom if you are aware that these things exist rather than knowingly buying one with a fake Rom and fake unlock that involves more work.
I can recommend Tradingshenzhen as a source for a 6/128. After actually using the custom nitrogen TWRP I flashed the LineageOS GSI today and it seems to be working just fine. They even provide some tools and a guide to get Xiaomi.eu running (a version that does not yet have ARB!)
Also that company's support staff is better than anything I have seen in a long, LONG while from any webshop across the world.

You can switch from chinese to global rom(or indian rom if you want inbuilt call recording option) after unlocking bootloader and debloat it all after rooting..Or maybe just flash custom roms .

Hello Robert
I have ordered CN version Oct, and i have been using it ever since. Out of the box you will get 18w charger with adapter which is very good, i live in Bosina, both sims are working fine 4G works too. There is not much to be worried about in CN version it works great it gets latest builds of MIUI (compared to other versions). Only thing that was kinda a nitpick and kinda annoying for me from start is that you get few standard Chinese apps that you can delete, and some of main Mi apps keep giving notifications in CN like mi videos and very other few, but rarely and they can be blocked. When you power on a device for a first time and creating Mi account you will have to install gapps which you can do over integrated mi store as i can remember (just type google no need for Chinese fonts). After doing that and logging into your google account i recommend you to unlock bootloader, you will have to make a request for unlocking it takes 160+ hours for it to get approved. Install xiaomi.eu rom which is cleaned and optimized CN miui for global users with xiaomi devices and regular updates and builds. I am currently using xiaomi.eu rom its fast, it has also ability to update it with updater in system. Anyway it is up to your preference what you want from device, you can try to install global firmware without unlocked bootloader you can try, if you want or some other custom rom with unlocked bootloader.
Best regards
