Work profile - unable to bring up keyboard - Asus Zenfone 5Z Questions & Answers

I have updated to Android 10. Today I tried using work profile to install Amazon Prime separate from main profile. But it seems I am unable to launch keyboard even for Google sign-in.
How to solve this?

Use on screen keyboard apps. Or floating keyboard.
Does A10 support different profiles?

The keyboards do not pop-up. I can see a cursor in the text field but no way to bring up the actual keyboard.

Try a wired keyboard maybe?

I cannot do that each time. Anyway I will see if I can use it to login to Google services and if that fixes issues.

Turned out there was no keyboard app at all in work profile!
Connected a physical USB keyboard, went to Play Store and installed one.
Now everything works as expected.

Gingerbread-style keyboard that doesn't get cut off

I downloaded the free Gingerbread keyboard from market, but found that in landscape it was cut-off by the Archos buttons. I then downloaded Steven Lin's latest source code from github, compiled it, and noticed that it doesn't have the landscape cut-off. I don't know why the version in Market is cut-off.
I then made some tweaks for myself. Two of these you can ignore: it comes with a nighmode version in red, but that's optional, and you can force the suggestions to be on even when the app requests them to be off (e.g., in search boxes), but that, too, is option. One tweak may annoy, and you can't turn it off: I added all the rest of the punctuation to what you get when you tap and hold the period and the comma. I can't do with only some punctuation on the main keyboard. Finally, I removed all language support other than English, which greatly slims down the apk.
So, all in all it's something I made for myself. But if you want it, it's here.
Thanks! It works great. The available additional punctuation is much appreciated; I always found the additional keystrokes needed annoying when using the terminal or ssh.

Yeah, the lack of a full ASCII keyboard has always been a pet peeve of mine about portable devices. I suppose not everyone sends emails that require all ASCII symbols.
It doesn't work on A70. The keyboard doesn't open.

1. Do you have "Gingerbread ARP keyboard" checked in the Keyboard settings?
2. What happens when you long tap on an input field, and then choose "Select input method"? Is it listed among the options?
By the way, I just found that the current version of the Gingerbread Keyboard in the Market works fine with landscape on my A43.

Of course, I activated the Gingerbread ARP keyboard in the settings. I chose it in the "select input method" menu.
When I tap on a textfield, the keyboard doesn't open, but at the bottom of the screen, there are ca. 2 rows of pixels, where I can see a little bit of the keyboard.
What can I do?
Interesting. There is no blank space, either?
What happens in landscape?
Does this happen with the 2.3 keyboard in the Market?

There is no white/blank space and the problem is in the landscape mode.
It happens everytime when I try to use this keyboard.
It's like the keyboard would be invisible, only the 2 rows of pixel on the bottom.
Try MultiLing Keyboard instead

Try the MultiLing Keyboard, which I've found works fine. Unfortunately the sources are not available.

Can you email me a screenshot? (My favorite way is to use adb: adb fbgrab /storage/gb.png and then adb pull /storage/gb.png.)
Is it fine in portrait?
Did you change your DPI setting? (I don't think it would make a difference, but you never know.)
The keyboard works great with my Archos 43. Thanks! I think I'll be using it from now on.

Choosing Default Keyboard

Hi All,
Just switched from S4 to the ONE. Everything is great except for one thing that I've noticed. I don't mind the stock keyboard, but I prefer Swype a lot better. I installed Swype and chose it as default keyboard, however, upon reboot, the keyboard switched back to the stock keyboard. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, how did you fix this issue and choose the default keyboard as there is no option under settings and Language and Keyboards
I also had this problem and it looks like Swype is aware of it and are looking for the fix...
In the mean time.. After the reboot, open any method of typing ( I use the txt message window to any recent contact ) and once the keyboard is displayed, pull down the bar from the top (that has the time stamp). You will see a Choose input method box. Click on it and Select the Swype - Swype + Dragon option and you are back up and running. Happy swyping.
I switched to the Google keyboard because this was annoying me about Swype. I think the Google keyboard is actually better at swiping in general... Except punctuation. I also use "*" often and it's buried on the Swype keyboard.

First select the keyboard of your choice, disable fast boot (settings, power) reboot, check that you still have the desired keyboard, enable fast boot. It should persist after that.

[Q]Can we use different keyboard?

Most of time, amazon's keyboard won't close itself using 'back' button, I have to switch to home and back app again, just for close it.
I would like to try other keyboard from Google Play Store.
However, we don't have any way to switch it in options or settings.
I have installed Settings.apk, first menu show up, but it will close immediately once I click to enter 'keyboard and language'.
Anyone have successfully try it? or maybe we need sqlite to change some kind of settings.db file? thanks.
I have switched to Google keyboard using the settings.apk from the Bluetooth thread. You can even disable the on screen keyboard if you have a physical one.

Did you really successfully change it to Google keyboard, how did you do it? I'm also using settings.apk from the Bluetooth speak thread. But it will close and won't let me to change it. I would like to use Google keyboard as well. By the way, I'm using newest firmware with root and enable unknown source already.
Yes swapped it a while back.. I'm on older firmware.. I did however freeze the kftv launcher, I know it blocks certain android things like home key launcher not sure if it is blocking that as well.
I just opened settings, language and input.. There it showed buellerIME
It was greyed out and Google keyboard not checked.. Just checked it .. Clicked on it's settings and disabled popup keyboard.

Thanks, looks new firmware block this out. I could switch firmware back, however I do like new firmware, it works smoother than older one and has less issues so far.

I double checked for ya.. Its the kftv launcher that's stopping the change. If ya freeze it and make the change then unfreeze it it will stick. I recomend installing a launcher of some sort in just in case as a fallback while doing it...

[Q] Unable to switch keyboards

Hi folks,
I am unable to switch keyboards. I am running the stock (rooted) Lollipop ROM. I have installed both Google keyboard and Swiftkey, the option to change keyboard only gives me the stock HTC keyboard in the settings. How do I force the switching of keyboards?
Bump.

After downloading Swiftkey, did you open the app? It should give you the option to and send you to the settings needed automatically to make it your default keyboard.
Swiftkey will walk you through the steps to enable it under settings then changing the default keyboard.

Yep, I did that and the option to change keyboard just lists the one (HTC) keyboard. It's almost like the fact the app is installed isn't registered by the system. See attached.

Settings, Language and keyboard, press current keyboard, then press choose keyboards and turn TouchPal off
If it's anything like the G4, you cannot disable the default keyboard.
I hope it isn't like the G4 in that aspect.

That doesnt work since the switch for Touchpal is greyed out. I can deactivate the other keyboard ive installed, just not Touchpal.

What's the other keyboard? I can turn TouchPal off on mine. Is the other keyboard enabled? If only one keyboard is enabled, you can't disable it.

Like jollywhitefoot, I can turn TouchPal off, as described. My other keyboard is Swiftkey, and interestingly, I had not been receiving any annoying prompts before I turned off TouchPal, which I only did just now.

The other keyboard is "Multiling O Keyboard +Emojii". This is what i see in the screen where i activated this one, is there another way to open this menu than going through the Multiling O Keyboard app?
You need to download a keyboard to turn off touchpal. Change the default keyboard then go back then you can disable it iirc.

"TouchPal with HTC Sense".
I was sad to see the Sense keyboard go. IMO it has always been king of Android keyboards. Wished I could have put it on my tablets throughout the years.
That's what I've been wondering. Is there any way we could get the Sense keyboard back on the 10?
One of the things I love most about my M7..

As you can see im using Multiling O Keyboard, which is a keyborad available in the Playstore. What do you mean by "Change the default keyboard", im allready using my custom keyboard for writing.
You turn on the keyboard back and then make it default. Then go back into where you turn on and off the keyboard then you can turn off touchpal.

I dont get what you want to show me. My current situation in detail:
1. Factory fresh HTC 10
2. I download Multiling O Keyboard
3. I enable it in the screen with the sliders.
4. I set my used keyboard to MOK, so i will start typing on with it whenever i select a text field.
5. When i select a text field i get a notification in the notification bar that lets me choose the keyboard i want to use, Touchpal and MOK being the options.
6. I try to disable Touchpal in the slider menu (which i reach by a button in the notification), but its slider is greyed out. I can disable MOK without problems, though.
Try doing it through the settings and not the slider. I don't know why it doesn't work for you, but that worked from me. Based on what you typed that the only difference. I didn't use the notification shade route.

What do you mean "through the settings and not the slider"? Touchpal isnt in the apps menu, so i cant disable it there.
I didn't access the settings through the notification shade like you did.
I did everything from the settings itself.
I tapped
Settings
Language and keyboard
Current keyboard
Choose keyboard
Turned on keyboard
Back once
Changed current keyboard
Choose keyboard
Turned off keyboards
That worked for me and I don't get anything in the notification shade because I only have 1 active keyboard.

The very first reply to your original post explains what you need to do. Go into Settings, Language & Keyboard, Current Keyboard, Choose Keyboards and then turn off Touchpal. Don't access this menu via the slider notification as you have previously stated. If Touchpal is still greyed out, try to download another keyboard temporarily and see if you then get the option.
