Xtrons 10.1 questions - MTCD Android Head Units General

I recently purchased a Xtrons 10.1 while I'm liking the unit, I do have a question or two.
1. I've linked to the radio to my home WiFi for updates and such, the download speed is horrendous. Like in kb's per second! It's the same thing if I connect through the hotspot on my phone as well.
2. It only came with Google maps, but with the slow internet speed, I don't think this will work. What are some good stand alone GPS apps I could use without all the internet requirements.
3. I'd like to update my MCU to the most current one in case I want to download a custom ROM and run it.

[MOD EDIT: QUOTED POST REMOVED]
Thanks for the info. The first radio I had, that I sent back had the iGo maps, I liked it pretty good. This radio is terrible when connected to the internet, whether it's WiFi or hotspot through my phone, it's slow as Christmas. Like speed rated in kb's instead of MB's. If I tried a custom ROM, could that help increase the speed

Personally I would contact your seller before changing roms. I have 3 Xtrons branded units and never had a problem with WiFi speed. Although you need to remember that it's not dual channel WiFi. It's only 2.4ghz.
Ask them for an update and if not ask them to replace the unit. As soon as you put a different rom on their the warranty is void.

I never changed the ROM from the factory. The WiFi issues seemed to have worked themselves out on their own. But I do have a different problem. Almost every time I use the other features, the radio just freezes up and I have to do a reboot with the reset button. Any ideas.

Still got GPS issues? Try this.

I got the normal S i9000 (quite confused with all those different ones lol)
I tryed the fix posted on the vibrant page, but it only made mine worse. Keep in mind it actually was decent before, google nav worked ok, but sometimes jumped around.
Also didnt get more aqurate then 80 feet in the test app.
Now, i tryed following this guide isntead:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/128026-everyone-who-having-gps-problems.html
Now i get down to 16 feet, and locks on quick. It also seems ALOT more stable on the signal.
interesting skyhook is off? on that setup, wow
With skyhook on, it is very fast at my mobile..
Where do you come from? Maybe it has sth todo with the country where you live..
I am in Austria..
This DOESN'T have skyhook turned off. Why don't people read a bit more carefully instead of starting a new thread for no reason?
The only thing this guy does it turn the supl settings to autoconfig, and also have skyhook on.
The settings he lists are the default settings, that's why you see skyhook off.
This method has been posted many times before, and for most people it does nothing.
Yep skyhook is on. Well just wanted to post it

did anyone try to turn dynamic accuracy off ? it seems to me it's more precise now.. could be another 'magic' fix

Followed the steps provided in the first post.
No thorough testing yet. I just went outside my house and GPS works almost instantly. I used to get 8 satellites in view but now I have 11. I'm surprised.
I'll go for a drive tomorrow.

[Q] What happens when you flash a GSM rom to a CDMA phone

Does it not boot, brick, or does service (obviously) just not work? I have a CDMA Xperia Play and as you guys probably know there is not a lot going for it in the ROM department. R800x.
I reeeeaaally wanted to use Aurora LE because I saw it being used for Nintendo DS emulation on youtube, but I bought the phone without knowing the lack of ROMs for this version of Play.
I'm only using it for wifi and gaming, so if service doesn't work that's fine. It isn't being used anyway. Anyone know about this? I apologize if it's a dumb question, I'm not used to flashing locked up phones (only tablets).
I'm expecting the answer to be "no, it won't even boot" but I just want to be sure.
I'm pretty sure it will boot, I don't know about the Wi-Fi working tho.

Thanks for the reply! I went ahead and flashed the rom I wanted originally, it booted and connected to wifi but the launcher just wasnt there (only the notification bar, wallpaper, and pull-down settings shortcut was accessible)
So I downloaded the GB LUPUS kernel and Xperia NXT (another rom that popped up on youtube being praised for its gaming power) and it works wonderfully. Everything is so fast and snappy.
My only complaint is that the "no signal" icon is always there, but to me it's worth it to have a nice GB rom.

Well obviously it WILL boot, but (as in the screenshot) you won't get any signal and data. Which means it must rely on WiFi.
That's fine for me, i had no intention of switching to Verizon
Strictly a wifi and gaming phone for me.

Recent issue with VZW GNex native Tethering..

Just recently, I'd say within the last 2-3 months, I've been losing connectivity with the native tether on my MMuzzy 4.3 rooted GNex on a Macbook pro.
My downloads or youtube streams would work for a bit, and then stop all of a sudden, and would take FOREVER to recover. This would rarely happen prior to I'd say the last 2-3 months.
I live in the capital of CT, so my phone gets consistent 4 bars. Nothing's changed really except for updating from 4.2.2 to 4.3. Even went back to 4.2.2 JB to see if the new update is the issue, and I was still having this same problem.
Anyone know what's the deal here? Is this an outdated radio issue, an OS update issue, or is VZW up to their old tricks again?
Any ideas would help, this has been driving me nuts so I've had to resort to USB tethering (which doesn't cause this break in connectivity issue).
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply!
For some reason wireless tether has been working pretty smoothly this past weekend, and I'll update this thread if the connectivity hiccups for an extended period again. :good:

How to make the GPS not suck?

I'm on a 5.1 ROM but the GPS has always been complete crap on every single Samsung phone I've ever owned.
Without a cell connection GPS takes forever to lock, or simply doesn't.
Right now I'm in China. The following three screenshots were taken at the same time.
Stuck behind the Chinese firewall that blocks all things Google, Googlemaps can't get a lock.

GPS Status gets NO satellites.
Baidu Maps got an INSTANT "lock" the moment I opened it. I think it might just be a cellular triangulation lock or something since GPS Status shows zero satellites.
What the hell????
Is there some device driver that I can download for the GPS chip that allows it to actually get a lock? I've also noticed that when I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no data reception the GPS fails miserably in getting any kind of lock.
All it's good for is burning through your battery as you wait for a lock that never happens.
Maybe it's Google maps? Might also want to try an app called 'faster gps.' The problem with running aftermarket Roms is that you never know if it's the rom or a problem with the GPS itself. I for one, have owned many Samsung devices and never had problems with GPS, but I have mainly stayed with TouchWiz. That's what I suggest you give a try if with the app it still doesn't work
Try using the latest OFFICIAL firmware for T-Mobile variant Nk2 in a stock form, then test your GPS if it works then you'll know it was the unofficial 5.0 lollipop causing the problem.
Then you can decide;
Stock reliability.
Or
Custom unofficial caketup rom unreliability.

CM12.1 File Manager is using network data. Why?

Why in the world is the CyanogenMod 12.1 file manager using my data network? I don't use it for network operations. Heck, I didn't even know it was capable of network access.
This worries me a bit, as it looks a lot like malware behavior.

One day I wanted to do a photo booth @ a movie theater. I got scared, as I used fing from the market, and the photo booth had an ip address!
Probably the same reason you're investigating.

I don't know about this stuff, but I know that CM has an optional account setup when installing their roms. I would think it has something to do with that, (collecting usage info, etc.). Although 10mb seems like a lot... How long have you been running it?

I was running it for less than a week when I noticed this, and I have mobile data turned off most of the time. I have never signed up for a CyanogenMod account.
Another puzzling tidbit: According to the App Info screen, File Manager doesn't even have permission to access the network.
