Cpu throttling? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I notice that a game I'm playing tends to lag a little when the phone gets hotter. Does this mean the cpu is throttling and is there a safe way to change it so it doesn't do that?
Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk

Any phone will lower cpu speeds during a thermal event, only way to change it would be to modify the kernel or use root to change the governor to a better optimized/efficient profile.

have you tried the game function in general settings?

Yeah. The game is already at half resolution or whatever. I guess I could mess around with it some more. I did read of a kernel somewhere on here that allows me to mess with the cpu governor, but I don't know if I'll be flashing it or not. Going to do some more reading.
I might check out Lineage 17 to see if that's better, but the Bluetooth thing holds me back.

I play Pubg mobile. I also experienced lags. It is caused by thorttling. Since I rooted the phone and changed CPU governor to conservative or performance I have no lags at all. Games are running smooth as hell.

Did you flash a different kernel or are you using a custom rom?

I tried using root apps to change it and I tried editing it myself. It just keeps going back to default. I do have root.

Regarding Doomlord Kernel

Regarding the newest doomkernel, is the xLoud working for you guys??
No, pretty sure it was confirmed it was the new firmware that broke xloud, not the kernel.
However, I'm not sure if 4.0.2.A.0.42 has this issue or not, I haven't updated yet.
It seems to me that the volume has increased from the last firmware, regardless of xloud, so it doesn't bother me.
yea, it sure is louder I noticed, but not as loud as I remembered lol..
Btw, do you experience any laggings when playing games such as Backstab HD? Mine is lagging pretty badly from time to time....

Try changing the I/0 scheduler to noop
It's still lagging for me =(
What's the difference between those profiles? I use the default governor.. should I change to something else?

I mean the I/O (Input/Output) scheduler not the CPU Governer You can use no frills CPU control to set it
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.sineo.android.noFrillsCPU&hl=en
I did that in the nofrills already.. even overclocked to 1.5ghz but still lags=(

Can I use this even on stock rom? I have some laggy games too..
Yea you can use it on stock rom.. But it didn't help my case at all though..
Hmm, updated to the latest generic rom but still didn't solve my lagging problems
xLoud's definitely working for me with Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42, and DooMKernel 5v2. I haven't had even the slightest bit of lag either (once the bloatware was removed of course), in fact I find it's the fastest firmware yet for me. Or maybe it's all DooMKernel that's making it speed by. Either way, no problems to be noted.

Will there be any problem if I use Performance governor always?

Reason is I flashed Perseus, and believe it or not this kernel lags, in whatever settings I tried to tweak. Only changing the governor to performance removes that lag/stuttering. Thus asking, will there be any problem if I use Performance as a regular governor?
I could move to another kernel, but this one has the most important features I need, speaker and headphone volume boost, led fade support, and the most imp yet simple exFAT support.

If You use Performance Governor as regular your CPU Frequency are alwaxy maximum and batterie will be very fast empty
I recently flashed Perseus Kernel on Omega ROM then I overclocked it at 1.8Ghz which was mind blowing!! There must be a prob with your ROM cz Perseus never lagged in my phone.
BTW I found that the default gov is much better and balanced than the Performance gov.
Well I don't care about battery life anymore, but I won't compromise with smoothness.
Actually, no, there is no problem with the Rom, well yes there is one, it's too damn smooth and fluid. When I was on Omega, which is basically not any fast or fluid than stock Rom I didn't notice any lag, because the Rom was laggy as well, but with A.R.H.D the lag is very prominent. Only an A.R.H.D user can feel the situation actually.

No problems at all that is why the option is available, Unless your worried about your battery life.
Performance governor won't necessarily reduce lag. Also it will make the phone super hot.

[Q] super heating.... I'm confused

This is the topic at hand .... not that after a period of use the lg nitro hd p930 is heated in an incredible
way and this caused the system is damaged and the wifi did not work because of this I had to unbrick the phone to
install them other rom that doing ics hard reset on stock 4.0.4 att ... but I just realized I still doing the same in other
rom and you do not and I hope that someone knows about this and can give me an answer.
Note: this step after aver played Turbo Racing League now all I installed rom without playing is heated and the wifi is
going to turn off and remove and replace the battery
excuse my bad English use google translator
Try to change frequency. Standart is about 1500mhz and you should decrease it to 1200 or less. Use set cpu or cpu master (free in google play).

No Frills CPU is also free and available from the Play store. I use SmartassV2 and Deadline in the cpu settings.

thanks for the info ... I cofigurado yesterday with the minimum frequency to 460Mhz and 1000Mhz the Maxima using the SetCPU program ... My concern is that if this resolves the wifi is not active due to heating after that I have to wait for the restart and pull the battery to get it working again ..
If you have further information about the settings they are appreciate ... I'm using the Rom Avatar
You could try installing an ICS rom to see if wifi works. If it does, then you know it's the current rom that is causing the problem.
I have tried a few roms and never had the heating or wifi issue.
not that the wifi does not work is that when heated or I'm using and gives the restart issue is not working anymore for some time
Not sure but maybe there is something wrong with your phone or the battery. Does the battery heat up when connected to a charger and sitting ilde? Does it heat up just sitting idle and not connected to a charger?
This is happening with regularities in these devices and as I see on forum ... is when I'm using a heavy application at first but after was more consistent than using normal applications gives Random restart
I think I read one or two posts from people that had hot batteries but that was due to the person using a custom rom.
I started using my P930 after not using it for many months because I was using a different phone. I loaded CM10 because it seems to give me the best battery life so far. I'll know more when I start using the phone more regularly.

In my reason I have determined that the problem seems to be hardware that is not heating the battery but processors am using Avatar Rom Android version 4.2.2 based on CM10 ...using wind kerner 2.5...And as I have read it is the cpu frequencies...download an app to adjust the frequencies at the same level...commented after what results

Unable to stick at lower CPU freq

I am currently using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306650 , but i doubt its the rom fault.
Using the MIUI settings, Antutu CPU master, or ROM ToolBox, applying a lower CPU max freq will not stick.
Ex: The max is 1890mhz, but i want it at 1566mhz for the max. After turning the phone off and on, the max CPU freq. goes back to the original 1890mhz. With a reboot, it sticks, half the time.
What do i do? Please reply ASAP, my S4 gets hot while playing games so i like to underclock it.
With many years of experience, the best thing I can tell you is to not place a MHz cap that is too high. Your phone can potentially be a potato if you're not careful.

SetCPU has different profiles to configure. And which ROM are you on? There might be an init.d script adjusting the frequencies. SetCPU will apply them AFTER any init.d scripts are ran so that should fix it. I loved SetCPU till ktoonsez made his own app.

the rom i am on is in the first post.
How do i check the script if it is?
Meh, till i figure that out, time to use SetCPU. I MUCH prefer Antutu Cpu Master Pro, a profile for overheating? Hell yes, i set mine to 1.2ghz at 105 degrees F. and 1.5/1.6ghz when its normal. Helped ALOT

Oh darn. It worked for a bit. Now instead of going back to normal max frequency after a reboot or boot up, it does it when I'm using the phone.
Does PAC ROM have this issue? If not, I'll use pac rom instead. Or it may be a kernel problem? Idk much about android stuff

Sounds like the kernel is overriding certain things in different scenarios. I'd try a different kernel.

some users have this issues its difficult to know what's the problem sometimes its battery or firmware maby hardware issue. try this use mi1 firmware best stable no issue for me. why I am saying this because I update my phone to mj3 and after that my phone get heated slow charging. then again I downgrade to mi1 firmwear now I don't have any issues

Then your phone is staying or jumping to max frequency 1200MHz too often. Make sure whichever app you are using to control your CPU settings has minimum frequency set to 312MHz, if that's not an issue, change your governor (I'm using "Interactive" governor at the moment). Governors handle how often your frequency will jump to the next higher frequency. You can find out about each governor available in our phone by a simple search on google
If you don't have a CPU settings app, you can try No-Frills CPU Control - one of the most common apps for CPU control, with a clean and basic interface

Above method would work regardless of stock or custom ROM, you just need root.
Alternatively, you can try using one of the RAM/Memory cleaners that don't require root to clean the running processes to keep your RAM empty. If there aren't too many processes using your CPU, there shouldn't be any reason for it to get hot :fingers-crossed:
