Hi,
I am in love with the NVIDIA shield (the pro 2019 model) , I just bought one and I cannot believe the the difference in quality when it comes to playing videos.
I changed the default video play that it comes with VLC. whatever video I play and in most times, I can rewind or FF the video. However, there are so many times when the player crashes (closes) when I do that for no obvious reason. I tried that with so many videos but I am not sure why this problem happens.
When I got the shield, I noticed that I will not be able to FF or RW unless i use the dedicated buttons on the remote (that is with the stock video player and before switching to VLC). Now I cannot figure out how to solve this annoying problem or how to return to the stock player (original player). Can someone please help?
Guys, any help with this matter please?

it says "sorry, this video cannot be played" in any sense rom if i play any video on it. even those recorded by using camcorder. but i can play them by clicking the thumbnail on the camcorder (on the bottom left of the camcorder after recording)
but still, i can view videos by using other apps
pls help thx
More people got this issue. I had it once, and I think I know the solution.
I had a lot of videos on my HOX. Some of them could'nt be played since I don't have the right codecs/decoders on HOX(example mkv files). Weird thing was they show up in gallery, but every video I played stoped after max 10 seconds of playing (even those that were working before).
After that I deleted the video's which can't play due missing the right codecs. After deleting them I tried again, and suddenly all movies work again.
Don't know if this is the right solution, but it worked for me. And an other work-around is to use a other media player. MX Player does a solid good job.
Hi again guys,
I understand by the MX player FAQ [sorry I can't post external links because I'm new],
Q: I'm using a Tegra 3 device. It randomly quits playing and returns to video list.
A: It is a known problem of Tegra 3 devices running Android 4.0. It typically happens with S/W decoder, so please use H/W decoder whenever possible.

that Tegra 3 devices experiences the aforementioned problem, probably something to do with software decoding (video playing just randomly stops, but probably more on software than hardware decoding). This problem happens on both VPlayer and MX player. I noticed that this problem seems to affect .avi files only, and on hardware decoding-only players like Diceplayer, there isn't this random stop problem. But I don't really prefer Diceplayer because it has choppy playback as compared to MX or VPlayer.
Question: Does this have something to do with the (quite) recent 4.04 OTA update? I never experienced this problem prior to the OTA. Does anyone experience something similar? Thanks!
diceplayer works fine, even with 1080p videos, and perfectly smooth playback.
are you sure it isn't just a problem with the way your videos have been encoded?
btw if you tap and hold on the video (when in diceplayer) and then 'select player' then software player, and it will disable the hardware encoding (temporarily)
Hi all,
I recently rooted my one x and then decided it wasnt what I wanted so I locked the bootloader and flashed back to the stock rom 1.28 on Three UK.
After that I received an OTA update and since then my videos crash in any media player. I hear that by flashing the boot_signed.img it could fix my problems but I dont know which version to use or where to get it.
I am currently on version 2.17.771.3 after the OTA on H3G.
Can anyone help me please as I am about to throw the thing at the wall.
Thanks in advance,
I have the same problem since the latest OTA.
I have tried MX Player, Mobo Player, VLC.
It seems to happen at random - sometimes I can watch 20 mins without any problems, other times it will crash after 5 seconds.
The video playback stops and screen goes back to the player menu.
Seems to only happen on SW decoding?
Stock, unrooted 2.17.401.2

What kind of video file you have play? Record by device or what kind of format? Does this crash only happen in 3rd party player or even crash on stock media player in gallery. Thanks

Ive had this happen on avi, mkv, mp4 files.
All these files worked perfectly before the 2.17.401.2 update.
So far it does not seem to happen in the stock player, but the stock player does not play all of these files and has limited subtitle support.
I have not tried recorded video files yet.
If you look at the review section on the play store for MX Player and Mobo Player, there seems to be many HOX owners with this problem.
might just be some optimization issues as Ive now tried BS Player and it seems to work well so far.
I've been experiencing this for a while now, every now and then when I'd watch movies on my tablet using the stock video player or even others such as MX Player and VLC, a crackling sound comes off that it sounds muzzled and blurry at the same time and the only thing to resolve it is to pause the movie or video then resume It right away then it's gone. The issue is it comes back time to time but rarely happens on YouTube as I recall, now I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue with the speakers, I'm not rooted and haven't modified anything at all, I've had this tablet for 2 months. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I wouldn't want to trade this is for a brand new device but if I really need to I would. Was just thinking if there was a work around for this without rooting the device.

Can you record the sound? Might be the app and the video itself if everything is fine on youtube. For my device I use allstar video player and its all fine. Could be an app issue with the video maybe? I havent tryed those video player apps but stock is fine for me also.
Not sure, thanks for the reply though. I could try recording it. Maybe it's just my speakers, cause I usually use the stock video player for my movies and that's where it happens.

Hello all,
Just got the phone last week and while I'm loving it otherwise, I've noticed an unfortunate thing when trying to use the HEVC codec option that is available to us in the Camera's option mode. Please check out this link with photos -> https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...eos-made-with-Samsung-Camera/m-p/326204#M3642 I've tried doing the live chat with Samsung TWICE now, and when I link them to that forum post I made, the samsung support tech just completely stops talking. Seriously. I stayed in the chat saying "hello? where are you? Can you please answer?" for 15 minutes once. No response at all.
As I mention in the thread though, the videos do play back perfectly in the phone's own video player, and using MPC-HC. With VLC, Windows Photos, Windows Media Player, and macOS quicktime, there are major glitches that make the video unwatchable.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution? What an odd situation.
