Hi all,
Once upon a time I registered for the android 9 beta and it seems that since that point I have not had any further updates. I also cannot deregister from the beta or get any new system software updates at all as it says I am at the latest. (G960FXXU2ZRKN)
I have tried clearing caches and loading up Samsung Smart Switch which also says I am at the latest version.
Samsung Members says the beta has ended and to look forward to official releases, it doesn't have the option to deregister from the beta. Ultimately I would like to get to android 10. I haven't seen anyone online with the same issue which is weird.
Samsung S9 SM-G960F in the UK, unlocked with Vodafone sim.
Cheers,
Frank
Would it be possible to flash android 10 over the top of my current version to get back up to date?
it's probably just you download the new android 10 firmware by frija or sammobile and make the flash via odin

I have just had a go at using Frija to find the latest firmware but it says there isn't anything in the database for SM-G960F/OXM which I believe is my CSC. I can't see anyone else having this issue so I am a bit stuck!
For anyone seeing this in the future, my CSC was actually 'BTU' which Frija could find a version of Android 10 for (found using Method 2 here: https://www.**********.com/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/)
I then flashed it using these guides https://itechify.com/2018/05/14/install-stock-firmware-galaxy-s9/ + https://computerinspire.com/how-to-flash-samsung-galaxy-s9-s9plus/
I ended up flashing all of the files (including HOME_CSC) as it was bootlooping after flashing only the AP.
For some reason it didn't maintain all of my apps and settings though so I had to restore them from a Smart Switch backup. I also had to spend a few hours logging back into everything too, so maybe I did something wrong in the flashing process, not sure.
Note, I also did this all in a Windows 10 VM which seemed to work fine.

I have the AT&T Galaxy Note 2, rooted, which is why I think it has been unable to install the last software update from AT&T. Every time I try, my phone will download the update but will fail 28% of the way through the install, I think this may be due to the root but I don’t know enough about this stuff to be sure. This is why I joined XDA, so that I could ask people smarter than me how to do the things I’m looking to do. If it is the root that’s the problem, then I imagine I’ll need a custom FW instead, there are a lot of listings here and I don’t know what is what or which update would be right for me, so I am asking for some help;
My phone is the SGH-I317
Android version; 4.3
Baseband version; I317UCUBMK6
Kernel Version; 3.0.31-2048209 [email protected] #1 Tue Nov 19 16:46:45 KST 2013
I don’t know if any of the info above is useful, I just want to keep the device up to date, nothing fancy, just whatever the most recent AT&T update is I want. I’m just not sure which of the many custom ROMs I should focus on.

I'll give it a go, one question though, will it cancel my root? Am I going to have to root the phone again afterwards?
Yes it will unroot but after you get to 4.4.2 just use cf autoroot and you'll be rooted again
It's not the root access it's the custom recovery that stops the Ota update.
How does that happen?
The Ota update runs a script that downloads the rom, attempts to boot into recovery, where it does a system wipe, then installs the rom. So it fails at that point, and continues to boot loop, because it's stuck on that step in the script.
OK, well is there a repair for that? That sounds like an error in the program itself, or is it because reversing a "root" is an involved process.
It's not an error. Samsung doesn't support people messing with the phone, and the scripts they write won't support custom recoveries. Just follow the steps in the link above.
Hi, i just did root the device and when i went to update the software it says that operating system on my device has been modified are you guys experiencing the same thing?

That is part of the KNOX system. Rooting trips it. So Now your phone has been permanently marked in its hardware as tampered. Any system that checks it integrity will now fail it. You will never be able to get OTA updates now. Also if your employer uses KNOX on their servers you will not be able to use this phone to connect to their servers for email now. That is the purpose of KNOX to assure network providers that the phone is stock and not tampered with.
Even if you try to unroot it the KNOX flag will still be tripped. This was an issue on the NOTE 3 as well. Once the KNOX flag is tripped it cannot be reset as it is in the hardware.
Thanks for the explanation i really dont care for tripping Knox as long as i can update trough Keis or wait for new roms
You can use the Wanam Xposed module to fake your system status and still get System Updates. Thats what I did.

You can still use Odin to flash roms if needed, or the wanam trick....
I installed wanam and set my status to official but the OTA system update still fails with the message my phone has been modified. I have galaxy tools installed with native tether enabled if that matters. What should i do to enable the update?
---------- Post added at 01:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 PM ----------
The OTA Still errored with a "device has been modified" or some such. I ran triangle away and saw my binary status was 'custom'. I checked the triangle away 'auto reset at boot and that fixed my binary status. Now i well retry the update and rpt back.

With my sprint note 4 wanam doesnt help nor triangle away although binary, flash and counter all look good in T Away

Well, if you are rooted and have custom recovery you can't get updates, "ota's" you will have to wait for a dev to come up with a flashable update. Being on 4.4.4 no reason to worry... You are up to date.
Oh, btw, forget about triangle away... It no longer serves any purpose for us...
On stock unrooted you still get OTA. Even with Knox tripped. If you have a custom recovery and root dont take the ota if you are promoted. It will brick your phone and you will have to Odin back to stock anyway.

Interesting. I came from the S3. Trying to take an ota wouldn't brick the phone but it would stop any future notifications of updates. We were fortunate to have a lot great devs there.
Btw, if you can still Odin the phone is not bricked. Bricked is dead...

Came from the S3 myself as well. Definitely a lot of active development until after SlimKat 7.0 and then that fell apart just in time for getting the Note 4. The numbers 4 and 3 i am starting to despise.
Slimteam, when i was keeping up with them, stated something about Android 5.0.
Maybe well get a surprise and see SlimPop for the Note 4. Slimpop isnt as euphonious as it looks to the eye...
On Topic: i wasnt able to update after rooting either as the phone is currently already UTD.

I mean soft bricked. And I should have elaborated, if you have a custom recovery you will soft brick taking an OTA update. Yes, some ROMs eliminate the OTA capability but some stock based ROMs will still get a notification.

That is the latest update. A new one is coming soon. But you should be on the latest with that build.
Deleted.
So then i am rooted with TWRP recovery and still can load OTA updates? What happened to Knox?
Simple. Go to the download screen and see what the status says. Google it
Does anyone know what is in this latest update do I need it if so where can I get it in a flashable format that works with a rooted phone
Right, so, I tried installing TWRP for Zenfone 2 ZE551ML using this thread:
https://dl.twrp.me/Z00A/twrp-3.0.0-0-Z00A.img.html
I used the app method to install it, and apparently, according to the app, the TWRP recovery installed fine.
However, when I restarted the phone into recovery, it didn't go into it.
It simply went into fastboot/bootloader.
At the Fastboot/bootloader screen, I tried going into Recovery by selecting that option, but the phone just restarts itself into Fasboot/bootloader.
So, what went wrong?
Also, my phone's OS is relatively old... 2.20.30.90.
I'd like to at least upgrade it to latest version first. I know I can do it via Fastboot method in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-to-apply-ota-bootloop-rooted-zf2-t3127835
But can I just flash the latest pre-rooted system and recovery over the existing one, or would I need to flash 97, then higher updates? This was unfortunately never cleared up.
Note: I completely removed all the excess bloatware from the existing OS btw.
I'd also like to unlock my bootloader if it needs to be done (I tried already, but the app in question states that it cannot be done - though, considering I can access bootloader, doesn't that mean its already unlocked?), and eventually just remove the original OS that Asus placed on the phone by replacing it with Marshmallow.
Thanks.
Once bootloader unlocked you get white splashscreen,do you get it ???
If not,then bootloader unlock faill.
I'm not seeing the white splashscreen... but that could mean the seller just sold me mobile with an unlocked bootloader at first and flashed the appropriate file to make sure the white splashscreen doesn't show.
How would I make sure to be able to unlock the bootloader on my Zenfone with 2.20.30.90?
Also, what about fastboot installation of the latest version (184) of Asus ROM from Mega site? Can I just flash it over my 90 version or do I need it incrementally (using 97, etc.)?
If it has to be done incrementally, where do I find the pre-rooted 97 versions and above?
Mega site only has 164 as the earliest.

I suggest you unlock bootlader from HERE
After unlock,reboot to recovery.
You should able enter twrp
---------- Post added at 04:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 PM ----------
You can just flash 184 from asus full rom using fastboot/sideload.
But before you sideload,do flash recovery.img first from 184.
You can find recovery.img at the 184 zip
Leftrand... thank you for that one.
I managed to get into TWRP.
Now I can finally install Marshmallow, and get a better OS in the process (not to mention battery life?).
For twrp better install unthetered twrp by TheSsj,other twrp have issue while restoring backup and lost sim 1
I installed the official TWRP via app before, and after unlocking the bootloader, I wiped the phone clean and installed Ressurection Remix V5.6.7.20160427 for Z00A.
My SIM1 seems fine, and SIM2 is currently down because there is no SIM card in it (but the phone is registering it in settings).
Battery life seems to have improved dramatically after several days of use.
Much better experience compared to stock Asus ROM (and waiting for who knows how long until they release Marshmallow).
At this point, Android N will be developed far faster on a custom level and perform better than what Asus gives us (if they ever release N for Zenfone 2).
As for installing twrp by TheSsj.... I'll think about it.
I'm not too concerned about restoring backups so long as I can access recovery (which I am able to do now easily), considering that most of my data is separate of the OS itself, and the most basic aspects get backed up online.
I purchased an S8+ which happens to be an SM-G955U. Thought i was purchasing an international unlocked version, but got the US unlocked version rather. I get this notification for Sprint OMADM constantly in my notification window and sometimes when I reboot the device. The phone works properly though.
My questions are.
1. Will I get full OTA support as on an international unlocked version.
Example. I notice that I only have the June security patch level, whilst my international unlocked note 5 has a more recent version.
2. Will this sprint notification eventually lock up my device sometime in the future?.
3. How do I get rid of this Sprint notification in my notification panel and popping up constantly?.
4. Can I still use this device when I visit the US without some changes being made to my device OTA?.
5. When I make a call. In the right upper corner it says attempting and not dialing. The call however does go through. Is this normal?.
Thanks
The best way is to flash it with the U1 firmware. This will give you the unlocked version of software. If you are on U software my guess is that you have the Sprint version of software.
My firmware version is G955USQU1AQFJ.
There is a U1 in there so I assume I'm on the U1 version.correct me if I'm wrong.
Will this receive OTA updates?.
Thanks
I am on AQG2. That is the us unlocked firmware. Use updato to find it.
---------- Post added at 04:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:06 PM ----------
Look for the one that says XAA. That is the generic USA unlocked firmware.
Thanks. Found it. Can you point me to a thread where someone has attempted this successfully on the G955U S8+ snapdragon 835 to do a bit more research before i attempt the firmware update.
I am particularly concerning about OTA updates after the firmware update.
