Hi all,
I've read online that the 64MP telephoto sensor actually has a wide lens but takes a 16MP crop. Is this true? If so, that means photos from the tele lens would be 16MP 0.8µm which seems like a massive step backwards.
My questions are:
1.) Can anyone confirm if this is correct?
2.) Does the S20+ allow you to take full sized 64MP photos with no crop or will a 3rd party camera app allow it?
3.) Can a camera app be modded to take 16MP photos at the wide angle using pixel binning with 4 pixels into one to make 16PM 1.6µm photos?
Thanks,
Kris
This is a picture straight from 64MP Camera I didn't check for wide angel outside of normal photos

Yeah, I can confirm this....the zoom isn't that impressive in my opinion but at least you have an option of taking a full 64mpx photo for extra crop if needed and if main lens is unable to.
3x is where this phone maxes out per my tests.
Also native camera allows to take full 64mpx photos.
How this 64 Mpix mode is behaving with close objects? Is it have bettery sharpness on corners when compare to main 12 Mpix Wide camera?

So i think everyone of you have come across this annoyance that third party cameras on Redmi Note 5 Pro (Note 5 China) cannot use the full 20mp resolution in front camera. Only 5mp resolution is utilised.
So can anyone point out what exactly is the reason for that and is there any fix possible for the issue, as this is a major reason for me to not flash custom roms as even gcam doesn't use full resolution of front camera.
Replies appreciated.
I tried the Nokia camera port and it works. It Utilizes full 20 mp front sensor.

yeah i have tried nokia cam too, it utilities full 20mp front. But the quality is nowhere close to google camera and that's why i want the gcam to utilize full 20mp front.
Does anyone have by any chance found a way to produce 32 MP shots using GCam ? I can't Invision the amount of details that would appear in the picture ,I searched everywhere and I am desperate for such mode ,even if the picture is just interpoalted
Thanks in advance ,have a nice day ?
Everybody Needs GCam For A70.
Everyone who have A70, needs GCam with proper cameras.
Rear : 32MP
Front: 32MP
Somebody says that samsung and other phones like Xiaomi, Oneplus, Realme etc. are using 4x technology. Means rendering image at 4x.
Redmi 7 Note Pro has 48 MP but it actually has 12MP camera means 4x12= 48MP.
Same case in other phones. Like realme 3 pro has 16MP camera but click 64mp ultra pic too.
Listen, If we are thinking like this 4x technology. Then Gcam shows rear camera = 8MP means 4x8=32MP. Means it's true.
But But But... In case of front camera why it shows 5.1 MP? means 5.1X4 =20.4 MP ? Strange!!!!!!!!
If 4x is used then why front camera shows 5.1 MP even it's also 32MP.
I am very sad because there is no developer, who shows interest in custom ROMS, Mods, GCam, TWRP etc. for Samsung A70.
I will wait for some days and then try to sale my A70.
Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken the camera has 4x8MP sensors and the gcam can only see one of them , the front camera is another issue and it mainly has to do with the way gcam is made. If anyone knows better please inform us.
8MP on the front, 5MP depth sensor, 8MP ultrawide and 32MP regular on the back. The 32MP sensor is a Samsung ISOCELL sensor that uses 2x2 pixel binning (basically 4 cells = 1 pixel) to produce a binned 8MP image.
Samsung's 12MP mode is curious, it's not really needed. Gcam produces better images at 8MP than Samsung's own camera software does at 12MP. Samsung's app is garbage, basically.
Samaung dont make all their camera modes available in public APIs and until that changes gcam will likely never fully support any Samsung phone.
I have an unlocked S20 Ultra here in the US. For some reason most of my images come out at 400x1800 Does not matter if its f3.5 or f2.2 or f1.8 which I assume shows which camera it comes from. The 108mp works at 12000x9000 and pro comes out at 4000x3000. But if I try to zoom or wide it always comes out at 4000x1800. What am I doing wrong. Or is this a function of the software.
0.5x,1x,4x,5x,10x,30x, and 100x all come out at 7.2mp.
tired scene optimizer on and off
thanks
Try in 3:4 ratio.

I was using Full Mode before. I thought it meant it was using the full sensor. Guess that was wrong.
Now In 3.:4 mode I get only 12mp images. Not the 48mp that is supposed to be with the telephoto camera.
All files now depending on F1.8, f2.2 or f3.5 are 12mp.
I think that you can only get 12 mp from periscope camera because of pixel binning. There is no option for 48 to toggle as on main camera for 108mp.Maybe if someone know a way to switch to 48mp periscope write it down but i think that that is impossible.
In S20, when u set the camera for 3:4 64 MP, the zoom goes only upto 6X. In other settings using 12/9 MP, it goes all the way upto 30X.
Now, when you have 64 MP at your disposal, this format should be more amenable for 30X than 12 or 9 MP format.
Further, I find that 64 MP, 6X does not produce any better image than 12MP, 6X. After 6X, the resultant image with 12 MP contains 2MP & with 64 MP, it should contain 64/6 = 10.6 MP (if it is a crop) & so the latter is expected to show much greater detail without pixelisation. But actually it's not so.
And even after 6X, the file shows the picture contains 64 MP. How's it so? From the quality, it appears like a digital crop rather than optical zoom.
I really doubt if it contains 64 MP.
Did any of u guys observe this?
Think the sensor is definitely 64mp (without zooming in at all), but as soon as you zoom etc it behaves in a hybrid manner, not in a typical cropping manner.
Well, sometimes cameras marked as 12MP are actually higher MP sensor, but they take for example a 16MP image, and reduce it to 12MP and mark that as a 12MP sensor, this way they can get better images
I think that's not the case on the 64MP, it's REALLY 64MP and they didn't cheat anywhere, so if you take a 12MP section of the 64MP base it's not so great because it's not like a smaller sensor where it's cropped intentionally.*
In fact, digital zooming have the advantage of being able to have use of the whole sensor if you want to, and therefor get extreme good quality images, but when zooming in it's never as a good as an optical zoom
The live focus uses either the 64mp (in zoom mode) or ultra wide camera. How can I use the main camera or zoomed out 64mp cam image for live focus? Coz the quality suffers much in artificial lighting
