Received Location Update - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I've been out of the samsung infrastructure for a little while coming from the Pixel 3 xl (2 years), and I just received my s20 Ultra on Monday. But I noticed that every time I pick up my phone I get the message "received location update", I have no problem with the "location update" seeing as if I lose my phone it can be tracked later. BUT i'm tired of seeing the notification! Is there a way to turn that off? without turning off location services? And by notification its not something in the status bar its a message that comes up near the fingerprint scanner.

hard/long press on the notification bar will allow you to mute it or control it

its not a notification that shows up in the status bar. it's literally a pop up bubble that shows up near the fingerprint sensor EVERY time I pick up my phone.

This, from manual, might be what you need,
Smart pop-up view
Receive notifications as icons that can be tapped and expanded in pop-up view.
*◌ From Settings, tap Advanced features >*Smart*pop-up view, and tap to enable.

It's called a toast notification and you might want to fry something like:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.revanmj.toastsource
It'll tell you what app is generating the toast notification.

There is no such menu in Android 7.1 . In settings you can set accordingly or by using notification panel.

Whenever a new message is received no notification has been shown. Eg. In the top of screen the text will come as " Message from (contact name) ". But in honor 7x its not coming so.

If your notifications aren't coming through then you have to go into the notification settings and tune them to your liking. For instance, mine was set to hide all notification content on the lock screen.
To going to notifications & status bar > notification management > see if your issue can be resolved in there. Then at the top of the notification management screen there is a gear icon, click that and make sure your notifications are turned to "show notification content on lock screen"
You can also go into manage apps and check the notifications for individual apps in there
No luck. Settings all seems to be fine.
Whenever new messages arrives watsapp icon is showing in the status bar. But in other mobiles new messages are notified as eg "message from xda-developer" for a moment and disappear. This message is not coming.

Notification problem - no one speaks of it??

Hi guys!
In the past I had an Android watch, a Pebble, several Samsung watches... The best one so far was Android.
Samsung Galaxy watch would be almost perfect if it hadn't this stupid "feature"
In short, the notification dot on the watch is there to notify you when there are unread notifications on the watch, not on your mobile phone. One would say, so what, that's not a problem...
Figure this - if you have the " turn screen on" and "show notification details" options on, then everything you get on your watch gets dismissed immediately! How stupid is that??
Is there a workaround for this, am I the only one bothered by this?
I love how Android wear has this solved. Not only that you have a notification on your watch persistent until you dismissed it on your phone or your watch but also it shows details in a form of cards...
Same settings on my watch. Notifications don't get deleted
Mine do not get deleted too. However, if you clear the notification on your watch it does remove it from your phone too.

They don't get deleted, just the orange dot disappears, leaving me unaware of a new notification...

so easy just go to notification settings in the galaxy watch app and remove the toggle beside the turn on screen option. its useless anyways. if its on, the the orange dot wont appear because it auto dismisses it by design.

I know exactly what you mean. All notifications disappear way too easily! If you accidentally go to far, it's gone. Missed it! FTS! FFS!
I tried for long time to try to find a fix. Samsung has to fix this. NOTHING the user can do!

Yes, it's up to Samsung... but the problem is, nobody talks about it, I tried to Google the problem, haven't found anything...
It's like people don't see it or don't care about it...

But I want to see what's up in a glance when I feel the notification vibration on the watch. If I toggle it off, I will have to wake up the watch screen everytime to see what's going on...

I do like those two options, so I can immediately see the notification on my screen without touching it..... but the only interaction at that point is to scroll up or down to read the notification details or touch the three-dots on the right and select "Clear Notifications" If I clear notification, then that's what happens... notification gone (it would be nice if I could just swipe sideways to clear, because for some notifications I have to then scroll to the bottom of a list of options to select clear notifications). If I don't "Clear Notifications" and ignore it, then the notification disappears from the watch screen, The watch goes back to displaying the watch face, there will NOT be an orange dot on the watch face, but the notification will be in my watch's notifications queue for me to look at later, AND the notification will be on my phone.
Seems like that's about exactly how I want it.
I have "Mute connected phone" set in the Wearable app notifications settings, because if I am wearing my watch, I want the watch to be what notifies me; not my phone. Also, I have the new OneUI on the watch.
Same problem here. I'd like to have notifications to be persistent until I explicitly dismiss them. On my Galaxy watch a notification disappears after I saw it. Is there some setting? Thanks!
So I just got the galaxy watch 5 and had this problem. I found that some how my phone got put in do not disturb. Once I turned that off all my notifications came up.

Notification Icons not showing in status bar

Hi all -
Trying to see if this is normal behavior or a bug, but I have two notifications on my lock screen (Messages and Outlook). When I unlock the device, in the top left, I just see the clock and "AT&T". When I drag the status bar down, I see my messages and outlook notifications (they are not silent or minimized). Why would I want to see AT&T instead of these notifications? Is there an option I'm missing to remove the carrier info?
I'm having the same issue, you are not alone. I spent more than an hour going through every single setting, but found nothing on how to fix this issue.

Just to try and narrow the issue, are you also on an AT&T device?
Fair enough, my apologies.
I have Sprint, and this is happening on my Galaxy S20.

I think that is actually super helpful information. This appears to be a OneUI issue, rather than an android, carrier, or particular model issue. So it needs to somehow get reported to Samsung for a fix... Does anyone here know if there a public place where Samsung tracks bugs for these devices?
Or does anyone know a writer who would pick up this story for a media outlet to shine some light?
Just to try something, have you toggled the setting in status bar section that says show all notifications?
I'm taking about opening quick settings toggles, pressing the three dots menu and then status bar.
I hadn't tried that, no. However, I just did and that didn't change anything.
My wife has an S20 Ultra on AT&T, and she's seeing this as well. I know there's a way to request support or post your issue to the community in the Samsung Members app. I may try to do that from her phone later today.
I've had issues with app notifications and icon badges since the S8, they never seem to get them to work properly

UPDATE
I was using the trial for Sprint's Call Screener program. I turned it off earlier, and now I no longer see "Sprint" in the status bar. I see the icons like I should. I have no idea if that is what solved the problem or not, but I didn't receive an update today and that's the only thing I can remember changing.
Go to settings, display and change 'Full screen Apps' to Auto for all
I played with that setting. It didn't have an affect on the notification issue.

Vinsuja, that setting did not work for me, however you sent me on the right path. I have had this same issue with notification not showing. I found that the camera cut out setting is causing this. Go to settings > display > full screen apps > click 3 dots for advanced settings > turn on hide camera cutout. This adds a black bar at the top, but fixes the notification issue
Edit: You can turn the setting back off and notifications will appear. This seems to be an issue with the full screen UI
Try using QuickStar in Good Lock (if you don't have good lock yet, its in the galaxy store). Under "visibility of indicator icons" you can turn off "Network Information" on homescreen, lockscreen and Expanded QS panel, that should hide your AT&T/Sprint etc etc label in the status bar. Interestingly enough I have a Bell S20, by default for my region carrier name is not shown.. which is a bonus...

Edge lighting shows my messages

I have edge lighting on. I kind of like it, but every time I receive a whatsapp message it shows the content of the message on a pop up along with notification. I can't find a way to disable this. I want to keep the light, not the pop up. Any ideas? Thanks.
Go to settings and search for pop up, check if you have smart pop up on..

That is pop up view. Which when you enable will make the app pop up in a little window (pop up view)
What you have are heads up notificarions, which you will have to disable manually for each app. Or you could use system ui tuner and completely disable heads up notifications
You are right, but how can I disable it?

You have to have the popup on for edge lightning to work. It won't work for notifications that just show on the status bar.
Hi to everyone,
I bought galaxy s20 one week ago and I have the same problem with the edge lightning. for example with the messenger app it does not appear the notification. Also I realized a delay to receive income email on gMail.

Question Can the Do not disturb notification be turned off somehow?

Yup, like the title of the thread says.
on oss12: Settings - Notifications & Status Bar - Status Bar - within icons turn off the do not disturb icon.

I meant the pop up notification, or toast message I believe. Yes I can swipe it, I know, but I programmed do not disturb, so I don't want to be notified via a pop up message
an update
I disabled the status bar icon as instructed above, but the system ui notification still popped up when DND is turned on.
When the system notification pops up, try:
Press and release the notification, it may shift right and you'll see a gear symbol and trash can.
Click the gear symbol, there maybe an option in there to disable notification

Nope Andy, there's no way to turn it off.
AutoNotification. It works perfect for blocking the notifications you choose!
Maybe this can help you?

I don't see the icon listed tho so I'm not sure if this can be applied for your case.
Btw I once tried this on Android 9 and it still worked so I assume this still works

Thank you, but it is grayed out so I cannot toggle it off.
I just re-read the setting, and it's for blocking notifications while DND is on, and not to turn off the notification that DND is on.
There's got to be a way.
this worked for me
