Swiftkey Update Shrunk Maximum Size - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

The recent swiftkey update (normal and beta versions) reduced the maximum size of the keyboard from slightly greater than half the screen size to less than about 50% of the screen size. (attached screen shot shows new smaller size)
On the Note 10 plus with maximum resolution set, the update makes the keyboard too small for me. It always worked perfect up until this update which Shrunk the size.
On my last note 9 and note 8, they did the exact same thing and reduced the maximum size after a couple of months of use and updates.
I've emailed them and all they have said is they know about it and hope to fix it. Does anyone have:
1- a different app with a keyboard size greater than 50% of the screen size? (tried Gboard, chroma, and Samsung - too small)
2 - a workaround or suggestions?
Thank you in advance! ?

[Q] Largest Font is VERY small

This is WM6.5 energy 21916, 29022 Sense 2021. And first of all I want to say this was a great job and thank you. I have had it up about 6 weeks now.
Although the CHEdit is pretty broken (I found about 20 ways to crash or totally foul it up), I finally got a stable setup and it was working fine - and decided not to touch it again - that was about 3 weeks ago.
The problem is that a few days ago the overall font on the phone got microscopic.
In the setting option with the five sizes - it is set to max and if you set it smaller I think it gets down to about 3 pixels.
I have to read it with a magnifying glass.
This is on the main screen and all apps. The top bar is so small it is hard to tell it is there and the "menu" bar is only slightly bigger and the point of the stylus will nearly cover the icons!
The is a Rhodium 100 - and like I said, all was normal and I haven't installed a new program in weeks.
So this was a "random" occurrence and I can't get the normal size font back.
Any ideas ??? Obviously rebooted and restarted sense and all the normal stuff that I could think of.

[Q] Font size imbalance

One of the first things I have noticed with the Tab Pro 8.4 is a severe imbalance between the font sizes of Samsung UI elements and non-Samsung. For example in Play Store when I enter text in the search box it's crisp but quite small. Yet the text in the Settings menus is a very comfortable size compared to the Google font size. If I increase the font size system-wide then the Google font size becomes comfortable and the Samsung font size becomes cartoonishly big.
Has anyone else noticed this and/or come up with a reasonable solution?
Perhaps one culprit is the fact that the true DPI of this device is 359 and Samsung has programmed 320 into the build.prop. That means it's lying to the OS that the screen is 9.4" not 8.4". So apps are drawing text and graphics a bit too small, but Samsung decided to jack up their own font sizes to a comfortable range. If I were to edit the DPI to 320 that still wouldn't be likely to help as then Samsung would just remain cartoonishly big.
I agree 100% with this problem and have tried changing the DPI in the build.prop. Big mistake as it causes crashes everywhere in Sammy apps.
The only work-around I have found was to use the Xposed framework with the App Settings app. This way you can adjust each app individually.
Its not a perfect solution, but its the best I have found in the 5 days I've owned this tab.

Yep, I've used it before on other devices. I used the newly released FlashFire to take a backup of my system to external SD before installing Xposed. I currently have a dpi of 360 assigned to all of: Chrome, Dropbox, Gmail, gReader, Google Maps, Netflix, News & Weather, Nova Launcher, Plume, Root Explorer, Tapatalk, Titanium Backup, PressReader, and the App Settings app itself (as everything was a bit too small). That puts these apps in the same range of screen element size as on Nexus devices. Feel free to pick a bit higher for a bit bigger as we do tend to hold tablets further from our faces than phones.
In fact the Nexus 5 itself (which is my daily phone) has a build.prop that is too large for the real screen size, 480 instead of 445 (factor of 7.8%). But it does make the UI a bit more comfortable without sacrificing too much screen space. So theory if you want any apps on the Tab Pro to display their UI elements at least as large as they physically appear on a Nexus 5, you'd assign a DPI in the 380-385 range to those apps.

Old thread but thanks! My GF has the 8.4" model and in the latest Facebook app the font is like 1/32" and she cannot read it
I read here and there the forum, rooted the tablet, installed xposed, installed AppSettings and changed the DPI, it worked! :good::good::good:

Screen resolution, size of icons, text - very ugly

Hi!
Just changing from my good old Note to a G3. With the immensly increased pixels I thought I'd get an even better usability - but so far it is much worse!
Many apps are so ugly as I have seen it only on smaller phones. For example in Hangouts or other such apps I have way less entries on the screen than on my old Note with 1280x800 and 240dpi setting. I can decrease the text size, but the overall extreme height of an entry, a menu line and even in the android system settings remains unchanged. Decreasing the dpi to below 530 has my phone almost stuck since "com.android.phone" keeps crashing and the dialog keeps popping ifinitely. But even with a dpi of 450 things aren't sweet as text goes really small but whitespace is still huge.
So, how come my old phone works so well and shows much more info with 240dpi? Are there other settings I can play with? Those "line heights" are just outrageous. Most apps are in direct comparison to my old Note way better on that one and show more info.
Any links to how android treats these graphic settings and which there are? Does it depend on the version? I use 6 on G3 vs 4.4 on the Note.
Thanks a lot!

Display size and DPI

The attached image shows MobileSheetsPro running on my old Galaxy Note 10.1 (left) and on the S4 (right).
The note is 1280x800 and the S4 is 2560x1600.
I would expect the applications to look the same, but this is not the case. On the S4, the dialog is about 25% larger, the icons are larger, etc.
If you are familiar with MobileSheetsPro you can see that I needed to lower the font sizes used by the program (to about 80%) to get the same contents on the display. Other applications show similar differences.
DevCheck (see 2nd attachment) shows resolution 1280x800 and screen density 160dpi (mdpi), 1280dp x 800dp for the Note, and for the S4 resolution 2560x1600 and screen density 360dpi (xhdpi), 1138dp x 711dp. I find the red numbers puzzling.
Is this normal behaviour? Is MobileSheetsPro misbehaving? Is there some setting that can (needs) be adjusted?
'm confused about this as well. Just picked up a a new s4 for super cheap...and games are too zoomed. I used recheck and an online tool and they both show 1280 x 800. Tried changing min width in developer settings to no avail
My tablet is at home, and this isn't the behavior I remember, but i don't use Mobile Sheets, and it could be specific to software. Android does some weird treatments that are supposed to be based on resolution. The xhdpi is a clue to this. In your old tablet it was using the native resolution in determining what resources to use/scale. On the new one, it appears to behave as if it believes the dPI is higher than it really is and the resolution lower. Somebody who understands better how this works in Android will have to give a more complete answer.

Question What smallest width are you running

Just out of curiosity what smallest width number are you guys running? I know you can make some adjustments to display size/font size in display settings but I'm talking about the number you set in developer options. I'm running 512 looks pretty good to me. The options in display settings didn't allow me to go as small as I wanted.

Do you mean DPI or PPI?
If you are referring to PPI (jea 512 is the P6 Pro max) this does not change the actual PPI of the screen (obviously), only sets DPI scaling (ability to adjust the size of on-screen content).
Decreasing the value will give you larger icons and make text easier to read.
Increasing it will make on-screen elements smaller and fit more content on the screen.
You can also achieve that with the Pixel launcher built-in font & screen size options, so I don't really see the point here. (Settings -> Display -> Font size / Display size).

The point is pretty simple, the adjustments in the display settings only go so far. I want on-screen elements smaller than those settings allow. Smallest options in settings gives you a minimum width of 484 and I wanted a higher number. Guess I should have just said the smallest width settings in developer options.
510 here and much preferring it!

Hi! I'm sorry to bother you but I have a question, that is, you see my phone is oppo f9 and I have 432 dp and I'd like to change it to 700. Can I change it to that number? if yes, does it affects my phone performances? The "developer options" is quite new for me, so I'd like to ask before taking action
I have been running smallest width 720 for a few years now, which I think translates to something like 320dp. I ran the same on my previous Note phones. It takes me a minute to focus in the morning but I enjoy the extra space and viewing websites in full desktop mode instead of fisher price mobile versions.
It's really up to you to fiddle with the number until you find something that works for you, but I can verify 700+ works fine without breaking anything.
FWIW I ran it at 1024 for awhile too, that didnt break anything either but was too small for me. I don't know what the exact cutoff is but at a certain resolution you'll notice that Android and apps will flip over to a tablet experience. I prefer this, but it may influence your choice.
592 dpi also with 6 pro and 7 pro
anyone using Poco X3 NFC ? any suggestion on your smallest width ?
Only tried up to 800 so far. Maybe try 1024 once i very comfy w 800.
