All carrier models are bootloader locked and cannot be rooted. The only models that can be unlocked are the T830 and T835

(oem unlock )

Hey guys and gals, I enabled developer mode and noticed that this device has the OEM unlock option not sure if that is similar to the nexus 6 as far as unlocking the bootloader to root but pretty sure it may be..fingers crossed and I wouldn't take any rom updates until we know further about root.
Yeah notice the same thing on my phone. I enable but not sure what it does yet.

The OEM Unlock does not unlock the bootloader, it only "allows" the bootloader to be unlocked.
If you don't allow the bootloader to be unlocked then you can't flash roms, kernels and you can't
root the phone.
This is why the verizon and at&t Note 5 and S6 Edge+ phones cannot be rooted and they cannot
have custom roms and kernels. They lack the the option of OEM Unlock because they have locked
bootloaders which is unlike our phones. The bootloader in our phones are not locked.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
My Verizon Edge+ has OEM Unlock on it, but I have no idea what it does. I'm searching the internet to see if anyone knows.

The important thing is to always leave the OEM Unlock enabled.
But as I said before, doing that will NOT unlock the bootloader.
It only allows for unlocking the bootloader if the bootloader is
unlock-able. (which is not the case with Verizon's bootloader)
Good luck,
Have a great evening!

That largely depends on if you have a "google" or "verizon" variant device. If you can enable OEM unlocking in developer options, then you should be able to unlock the bootloader.

First, make sure that you can enable "OEM unlocking" in the developers options settings section. If you can, then unlocking the bootloader and installing roms is not that difficult provided you have a good understanding of how fastboot works:good:

Go here and enter your IMEI: https://www.verizon.com/od/prepaid/bring-your-own-device/#/checkDevice
It will tell you if it's a Verizon device, or a "NON-VZW" device
Any workaround for Verizon variant running Android 11 or if it can be downgraded to Android 10?

Yeah, you are right it's running pretty well on stock, no problem, thanks
My phone is not a Verizon variant (NON-VZW), however it was bought from Verizon and cannot be unlocked. Is there any way around that? (Since Verizon says and several other IMEI checkers don't say it's a Verizon only variant).

For me, it's kinda difficult to identify now as there is no app or setting from Verizon on it, tired checking it on Verizon but their IMEI checking page is down. If yours is non Verizon, unlock oem shouldn't be grayed out by default. I'm not expert on it thoug.
I bought a NON-VZW phone and enabled OEM unlocking, but after I put my Verizon SIM and an update happened, it got grayed out before I could unlock the bootloader. Is there any way to put it back on older software? It is still marked as NON-VZW in the IMEI thing.

Maybe try taking the SIM card out, factory resetting and then see if you can enabled OEM unlocking and USB debugging. If so then unlock the bootloader before putting the SIM back in. Won't put you back on an older software but may allow you to unlock the bootloader.

Bootloader unlocking issue

Fastboot version: 31.0.2-7242960
The oem unlock option is greyed out but i want to unlock my bootloader the fastboot version is above anyone has solution please tell me.
Pixel 2 xl is carrier of verizon But i cant access the verizon. so, is there alternate way to enable oem unlock and unlock the bootloader.
The Verizon Pixel 2XL bootloader cannot be unlocked and there are no alternate methods of unlocking it. As a result the only real options are to use the device as is or sell it

Unlocking Bootloader VZ Device but with International Firmware

Hello,
I've got a refurbished Pixel 3 XL with an US VZ Board. The interesting thing is that on this device is the normal variant of the firmware installed without any Verizon stuff. So now I wanted to unlock the bootloader and OEM Unlocking is greyed out. So my thought now is that maybe the device was bootloader unlocked to flash the firmware variant without Verizon stuff and then relocked. Without Verizon firmware there shouldn't be anything blocking OEM Unlocking.
Am I right that I just need to wait about 7 days before I am allowed to enable OEM Unlocking?
Tell me if I'm wrong with something.
Thanks

Question Fido Canada S22 Can't OEM Unlock. Any solution, or which alternative model to get?

Hey guys,
Haven't kept up with research on phone unlocks etc etc. I love having my phone unlocked for the true night light, youtube vanced, perma ad block across phone and other such things.
Which version of the S22 should I be going for right now to get so that I can root my phone completely? Would the Amazon Canada version work (‎SM-S901WZKEXAC)?
Here are the specs/details of my Fido S22 phone that just came in, that DOESN'T have OEM Unlock option on it, not sure if this clarifies anything!
Model : SM - S901W
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
CPU : sm8450
Baseband : S901WVLU1AVCJ
Build Number : SP1A.210812.016.S901WVLU1AVCJ

@newuxtreme any luck with unlocking your bootloader? I have the same model from Rogers and no oem unlock option in developer settings.
Did Amazon build work?
No US or Canadian Models have an unlockable bootloader by default. Id suggest getting the gobal model
SM-S901B
the OEM lock is now hidden on the S22 and I believe on most newer samsungs as well. in my case I followed a dictation on the internet and it worked well
S22 s901u if you search oem, it comes up as oem unlocking under developer options

Could you provide more info on how you were able to oem unlock. I have SM - S901W and the oem unlock shows in setting search bar but NOT in the dev options itself. Please help
S901u same here. Shows up in search that oem unlocking in settings is in developer options, so the phone says. It is hidden and needs to be enabled so you can unlock this

Really hoping there is a solution here... I got this phone because Samsung offers oem unlocking and it would be a shame if I cant unlock the bootloader

There is no oem unlock on North American devices. The s22 wasn't capable of being flashed by token. You all are out of luck for now
The s22 cannot be bootloader unlocked. Only method was by flashing token and I don't believe te s22 was included in this.

Oem unlocking must not be removed but hidden or disabled, because if it was removed it would not show up in search and then say it's under developer options. So you must be incorrect.

@TheMadScientist is correct - Snapdragon devices are generally not bootloader unlockable.
The OEM Unlocking toggle is hidden because ro.oem_unlock_supported and sys.oem_unlock_allowed are both set to 0 at firmware build time and cannot be changed except via remote firmware update.
